    • +22

Mate all the manufacturers are bursting at the seems with stock.
Autocare and prixcar are so full they can’t take on much more stock.
The docks are all full too.
A lot of these deals are to just stop paying for storage and barely break even

probably not the LC300 and new Prado I guess…

Nor RAV4 or Corolla. Waitlist is down frrm 12 months to 6 months, but if you listen the EV bots they think that Toyota doesn't know what it's doing…

      • +19

if you drive over westgate bridge in melbourne, you will see the dock are overloaded. if you wait for couple more months, its right time to buy a car at banger price.

      • +5

So, we as consumers should keep holding out and not buy anything for another month,… like go on a "non-buying" strike, to force prices to come down some more.

That would be awesome, if buyers can unite that way.

        Hold The Line !

something tells me dealers are sitting on stock

The EV revolution failed to materialise at the expected rate. This is what happens when ideology meets reality.

FWIW I was in the Hyundai dealer a few months ago, and while the sales guy was off pretending to seek approval from his manager I noticed among his paperwork a stock list. Pretty much all popular ICE cars, i20, i30, Kona, Santa Fe, iLoad, iMax etc ALL had wait lists of 3-6 months+ whereas all the EV models were ALL in stock. That's when I decided I'd wait to this year to look again because across the board excess stock means the bargains would come.

In case anyone is wondering… GV80 coupe starts at an eye watering 136K. Wow.

    • +5

It's a proper luxury car. Bentley esque (but nicer)

      • +7

So the marketing brochure says. Sitting in one I do agree in some ways, but in others, I see the Hyundai roots.

      • +1

Bentleys have historically had a prestige, collectible element.

These ones might be more comfortable, and they might even be better cars, but I doubt they’re going to hold their value like their ‘traditional’ peers in the same market.

Not that people buying them care about that. They’re buying them for two reasons: comfort, or to appear rich.

        • Bentleys have historically had

And there's the catch, had. Reputations rise and all and fall over time and Hyundai is one brand that is on the up and up. 15 years ago I would've laughed at you if you said Hyundai and Kia would have $100k cars and I'd want to buy one, but here we are.

They’re buying them for two reasons: comfort, or to appear rich.

I'd even put it down to only the latter. The amount of super cars driving around these days is nuts and they are not for comfort or even speed since EV's have killed them at that. It's all about broadcasting your perceived net worth.

        • Can't imagine many look at a Hyundai and think "rich", I sure as hell don't. I think, overpriced, left of centre choice and, in another 2-3 iterations where they cut all the fussy design choices out….it'll look alright. That's about it

      • +14

Ease up Picasso theyre a nice car

    • -4

True. Genesis cars looks amazing, but it should be cheaper than BMW, Merc or Audi, else no point getting these at such high price point with lesser reliability than existing premium cars.
Their post sales service I have heard is not great along with resale value.

      • +2

with lesser reliability than existing premium cars.

What ? BMW, Audi, Mercedes have terrible reliability - have you ever owned a German car ?

There's absolutely no way that these are worse.

        • -6

BMW are easily more reliable than Hyundai these days.

Audi and Mercedes are probably line ball. Hyundai/Kia do not make reliable cars

          • +2

@tp0: My Hyundai Tucson is 8 y.o. and has given me 0 issues during my ownership so far. The same for my 4 y.o. Kia Sorento.

          • +1

@tp0: This has got to be a troll. Even if that were true about rates of failure (it's not), the massive difference in spare parts costs (both for routine and none routine maintenance) will eat up wayyyy more $$ on the euros.

Plus the drivetrains they put in these tend to be the best they've got. G70 for example has most of the drivetrain from a Stinger Gt which is completely bulletproof.

Edit to add - buying a brand new luxury car of any brand is a bad financial decision. Get a second hand Lexus and save yourself a load of cash.

            • @nigel deborah:

Get a second hand Lexus and save yourself a load of cash

I would if they weren't so ugly. The pointy trapezoid design language does nothing for me. The coolest looking Lexus IMO is the old square blocky looking pre-2006 LS430.

            • @nigel deborah: Pretty much every engine they make has some sort of serious failure or common issue. The 3.3 has oil consumption and ring issues.

Class actions galore across their lineup and no it doesn't just affect engines made in North America.

          • @tp0: If you are basing your Hyundai/Kia knowledge off the Americans and Reddit then you're far off target as we get the better experience and quality.

            • @Menzoberranzan: Ah that makes a lot of sense, I thought it was a bizarre comment but if you mostly hear US coverage on their locally made, Korean brand vehicles I could understand why you'd have that view.

        • Owned new Mazda’s, Ford’s, Audi and BMWs. Three BMWs and I have never had a warrantee job required on any of them. The Audi and Mazda (6 wagon) went back at least half a dozen times due to quality issues (not failures). Fords have also been pretty good.

Without fail for quality and reliability, BMWs have me all the way. Cost of ownership of BMW 330 was cheaper then the Mazda 6 it replaced

      • +1

with lesser reliability than existing premium cars.

You've never owned a German car have you?

Japanese and Korean win any reliability contest.

        • +1

BMW ranked 9th on the 2024 reliability study — https://www.bmwblog.com/2024/02/12/bmw-ninth-2024-jd-power-v…

          Genesis 17th, Hyundai 14th.

They're not the cars of old.

          • @zductiv: Note that this is only measuring frequency of repairs, not their cost.
All the German manufacturers have galactic parts pricing - there are any number of parts on a modern BMW that cost $1000+ to replace, not including the labour, and good luck to your wallet if you get one of the cascading failures of the AC Compressor or High Pressure Fuel Pump that dump very expensive metal shards into very expensive AC/Fuel systems… each of these costs multiple thousands to rectify properly.

          • @zductiv:

            on the 2024 reliability study

            'The study' eh…

Just to help you out here, The JD Power 'study' is a survey based simply on calling US customers and asking them how they feel about their car. It is not a scientific measure nor does it involve Australian models that we buy. It also only takes into account the first 3 years, which if you're talking long term reliability is a terrible way to measure. And lastly the Hyundai-Kia's in the US are completely different cars built in different factories to here.

This is the problem with the just_Google_it approach. You need a bit more than just blindly believe in the first results you see.

    • 136k for a car being sold on a website with broken links. I clicked on the "Find My Genesis" button and it 404'ed

      • hahahaha my thoughts exactly

  • +2

    Kick-starter for uber premium

  • +3

They’ve been pushing the pricing higher and higher on this brand the last couple of years so this is probably just bringing it back in line with prior year model.

  • +1

BMW financial year ends xmas eve

  • Saying 0-100 at 6 seconds like that's fast 😂. EV that can do under 4 seconds for less than half the price of this.

    • +14

      It’s fast enough, really

    • But it's not an EV so why even compare?

      • +2

They are both cars, why not compare

        • +3

Because you're taking a main advantage of an EV and applying it to a luxury ICE car.
It doesn't drive off road like a Patrol and it doesn't hold its value like a Ferrari either.

          • @timthetoolman: The car in this ad, which I am comparing to, is neither a Ferrari or a Patrol. It's just a slow car

            • @killingtime: Nor is it an EV….

            • @killingtime: A 5.2 second 0-100 sprint in a luxury SUV is pretty decent.

Yeah, we all know EVs are fast but not everyone wants an EV for other reasons. If you do want an EV, those deals have already been posted for Hyundai…

              • -2

@besttechadvisor: EVs are fast in a straight line but 🥱 to drive. Show me a person who enjoys driving that has an EV and I’ll show you someone who is disappointed with their car choice

    • Are those evs that premium and interesting?

  • +18

    These are sick cars.

Although Hyundai/Genesis are still fairly out of touch with pricing.

  • +1

They look good but i am a bit too old to not see these as hyundais. 80k car tbh. Just take a BYD or Telsa for a drive.

    • +4

      I don't think BYD or Tesla have any 3.5L V6 twin-turbos though…

      • thank god..

    • +1

People looking at Genesis… Or heck, the 3 Germans or Lexus… won't be looking at BYD.

      • +1

never say never..I was looking at GV60 vs Lexus RZ450e vs Merc EQB vs BYD PHEV to NL

genesis and Merc had the nicest interior, ruled out the merc due to the NMC battery and poor value (base is very slow), lexus was middle of the road and feels dated in the drivers seat. BYD was nice enough inside with good standard equipment but lacking that finesse of a luxury car like genesis, can't argue with the value though

        • +1

but lacking that finesse of a luxury car like genesis

Hence why someone wanting that finesse won't be buying BYD. You might look, but you will quickly look away…

      • Im a person. I had narrowed down the choices to a GV70 suv, model 3 performance, and BYD performance. Liked all of them for different reasons. If the STI was still being sold i would have got that.

The overwhelming thing i see in comments on automotive forums is that all the marketing experts usually are a little bit off in their estimation of customer wants. Working out the emotional response is a bit harder in cars, eslecially as fhey get a bit niche.. compated with say buying a corolla.

Look we replaced my car this time with ghe byd performance but my wife fell in love with the gv80 so will likely get that in 2026. I'm still trying to get my head around 130k for a Korean petrol car that isn't that quick. I still think a German is in order

I also got told i dont want a sedan.. but its great to see them being taken up again.

  • In Adelaide only see new genesis as Chauffeur VIP vehicles for politicians, expos and casino.

Example about a month ago some of the top bosses from American military complex came to Adelaide and visited RAAF Edinburgh base, they had like 7 genesis lined up outside casino with police there

    I'd buy one for $70k

    • Tbh, I would say 90-95k is good price for these.

      • Perhaps falling AUD warrants that kind of a price, but in the light of what can be bought for about $70k, it doesn't matter how nice this Genesis is

        • Like?

      • +1

fyi, that's how much these cost in Korea.

    • -5

      I'd buy one for $20k.

Seriously, people wanting a free lunch for no good reason. This isn't Chinese made so can't compete in that way either.

      • +2

Chinese manufacturing is second to none, that's why everything from high tech electronics to luxury guys are made in China, and cost an arm and a leg.

What world do you live in mate.

          • +6

@smartProverble: The one in which people buy iPhones at $2k, handbags and shoes that cost thoasands, and pretty much everything else you can think of. All made in China. Ask yourself the question you've asked me

            • -6

@mrau: Too funny mate, and can't tell if serious.

China is the world's factory for a reason.

And that reason is cost, nothing more.

No one places a premium on 'Made in China', except maybe some of your delusional countrymen. Most Chinese don't even trust Chinese brands and choose western or anything else.

              • -1

@smartProverble: So many factories are now moving out of China into other SEA countries as costs in China is increasing (except for industries where they are hugely subsidised by the government such as EVs). Quality of manufacture in Vietnam or other countries of Iphones etc… will be just the same when QC is done by the head company!

  • +1

    Selling sooooo well

  • +5

Surprised seeing a deal for this brand lol.

I actually worked on these cars on a daily basis, doing PDI's and prechecks before they get registered, didn't work on the post delivery ever. I've had my fair share of problems such as coolant leaks, minor paint chips and transmission fluids leaks. They are usually fixed at their West Melbourne service centre and with appearance defects get fixed at Zagames. Can't stop all problems from compliance processing or transport damages. Around 1% of cars I touched had some sort of repairable defects.

I hope the cars I serviced are providing a content driving experience. They are nice cars. G80 or GV70 is my preferred.

My personal feel for GV80's is this feels like a chauffeur or UBER car. Nice and spacious, good for families, a car that you would buy if you had expendable income. I wouldn't personally buy it myself, too expensive for me.

Most people that inspect this brand always compare with Benz or BMW. I like my 2010 Mazda 3.

  • Have driven the v6 gv80. Poor fuel economy. Noisy engine. Felt like a hyundai engine to drive. Interir looked nice. Not in the same class as an x5 bmw. I woukd not say it was a pleasure to drive. If you are into hiw are carr looks then is great. But how it drives is my focus. Not worth 130k. Maybe 80k.

    • So basically the car it's based on which is the palisade, that costs 80k for the top end… Guessing they had to distance themselves from that car

    • Are you sure you testing the V6 petrol and not the i6 diesel?

  • Will someone willing to purchase a car over $100k browse a bargain website?

    • OzBargain polls income… you'd be surprised.

    • Yes!

    • You don't get to the point of being able to buy $100k cars by throwing your money away.

A 'bargain' means saving money off the regular price, not being too poor to afford nice things.
