  • Any suggestions for iPad Air 11” case?

  • which "paper" like screen protector would you guys recommend for the ipad air 13?

  • +1

Too late to the party. Can’t believe I missed it. Is it over now as this can only be done in store?

    • +2

They said it will be extended until 26 June 2024

  • +3

    Just sharing my experience
Went to my local JB and managed to get the iPad 9th Gen and the remaining as the gift card balance to use at any time

    • Hi mate. If you cancel as of today, do you pay the $500 voucher repayment per CIS or the increase voucher amount - $1000?

      • +4

        No one pays increased amount

        • Thanks. Went in for $800 discount for $500 voucher repayment fee.

Now, trying to get 69$ waived.

  • +5

Just worked out that you can see the invoice for the $479 on your Telstra account under Payments. Mine says AutoPay 17 Jun 2024.

When you click into it it says: "We'll debit this amount on 17 Jun 2024. You can pay - in full or in instalments - before the due date." And you can download a tax invoice pdf.

So it looks like it gives you the option to pay smaller amounts and change the payment method. Though something must be up with Telstra as it errors out when I try.

Link is: www.myservices.telstra.com.au I just used the login info created when JB Hi-Fi set up the accounts.

    • +2

Thank you. Can confirm I got the same.

      • +2

Yep same. Handy link - thanks @pixxelpusher

        • +1

Same for me but doesn’t seem to let me pay it now.

          • @Mr RS: Tried mine again and now it's letting me pay now / change payment method. Must have been a glitch before.

    • +1

Thanks. Can confirm this shows up for me as well. Mine is set for payment on the 14th.

Was also able to get the first month $69 refunded via JB Mobile chat. Basically just asked them to refund it and they said sure.

I did get some weird person added to my Telstra account as an Authorised Contact right after though. Suspect it must be related so left it for a day before removing.

    • I also got the invoice for the same amount. However, I see no mentioned of the 69$, can I assume that it has already been waived off?

      • You already paid it when you signed up?

      • +1

The initial $69 will be on your credit card. There's also a tax invoice for it on that Telstra page if you click on "Past Payments".

When I cancelled my plan I was told the $69 would be refunded in 10-12 days, so I'm expecting it payed back to my CC by next week. If not I've got a reference number and I'll be calling them up. They'd have a recording of the guy saying to me I'd get a refund and I'll hold them to that.

        • I chatted to them tonight and they are saying they can’t refund the $69 :(

    • Were you able to change the payment method for the $479 bill?

      • Yeah, now when I go in there it gives the option to pay with a "New Card" and then put in the card details with the option to "Remember card details"

  • i dont see the promo in this week's catalogue - anyone tried getting it?

    • Maybe call them to check?

    • It was in the last week's and finished yesterday. Though people say they might extend this OLD offer, it still makes perfect sense when it doesn't show up in the pre-planed NEW week's catalogue.

  • I snuck in yesterday afternoon. Which chat do I use to cancel? Is it safe to cancel before iPad is shipped?

    • +1

I cancelled my plan after the iPad has shipped. In theory they have nothing to do with each other, the direct order is not linked.

    • Yeah you can cancel whenever. You've just been given a gift card to buy the iPad. Nothing to do with the Telstra plan except having to pay back the gift card which they have listed as $500

  • +6

Just went into store - offer closed yesterday, is now $700 not $1000

    • just the usual giftcard?

      • Not sure, they said it was the same 24 months of $69 broadband requirement but as it had been a Telstra promo the $1000 wasn't showing up as an option on their system anymore so $700 was the best they could do from JB perspective.

Should have got off my backside and gone in yesterday, well done to everyone who managed it.

        • +2

Damn, you Legit should’ve gone yesterday :P

  • Ok, purchased the ipad last night. None in stock so will be ordered in from another store for pickup. Cancelled the plan this morning via chat. Rep gave me ref number so I can come back to get $69 refund as payment still pending/not clear yet.

    • Same on my end too, rep said payment was still pending and check back in 3-5 business days

      • Mine told me 10-12 days for the $69 to be refunded. So I wouldn't expect it straight away.

        • as long the $69 payment you made shown as cleared (or whatever that is not pending), then you can start asking for refund.

          • @hawkeye93: I already asked for a refund on it when I cancelled the plan.

            • @pixxelpusher: Different situation. People who paid on credit card like me need to contact once the payment clears to get them to initiate a refund. Sounds like you already have a refund and it'll take10-12 days.

              • @theguyrules: I also paid by credit card (that's the only payment method you could use for this deal as it's part of the Telstra signup process). No need to wait for payment to clear as you can discuss it with them when you cancel the plan. They set up an automatic refund in the system. I did ask if there was anything I needed to do like call them back and that's when he said no it's automatic in 10-12 days you'll get the refund. Saves a 2nd phone call if you just tell them everything you want done in the first call.

                • @pixxelpusher: Oh odd the rep I got (second one) said they had to wait for it to clear.
                  Weird.
Either way, it's cleared now so back on the chat to get it refunded today.

                  • +1

@theguyrules: Yeah odd. Different reps / different info. Similar to different JB staff giving different deals. Be interested to hear if they say the same 10-12 days or if the refund is instant.

                    • @pixxelpusher:

I've checked the payments and they are still on Pending status,
normally payments get posted on the system after 72 hours.
Since the $69 is still on Pending status, system is not yet accepting to process refund at this time, but no worries, I'll personally monitor this for you.
As soon as your $69 payment gets posted, I'll submit the refund for it, and the amount will be refunded back to your same credit card within 7 business days, from the time of refund submission.

                      Hmm damn

                      • -1

@theguyrules: Almost another different story. Now I'm starting to wonder if my guy was actually able submit the refund if it was still pending. Or was he simply going to do it at a later date. I don't really trust the "I'll monitor this for you" stance as from previous experience they rarely ever do and things don't get done. My CC has definitely made payment now, so if the refund isn't there by mid next week I'll be calling back.

                        • +2

@pixxelpusher: Also good to buy the Mastercard gift cards from Woolies to use to pay off the ipad for added savings!

                        • +1

@pixxelpusher: As promised, the refund came through today!

                          • -2

@theguyrules: Mines still pending! Don't know why it's taking so long. Called them up again on Weds to check and the guy said he could see the credit sitting on the account waiting to be paid. Thought I'd go back onto the Telstra page, and I can see the refund credit there too in history saying pending: https://www.myservices.telstra.com.au/payments/all-payment-h…

Hopefully comes through in the next couple days.

                          • -1

@theguyrules: $69 refund finally came through today! Looks like it was worth calling up a second time to make sure it's happening.

        • +1

Also got my $69 refund back after 5 businesss days.

Had no reason and used the phone call to cancel.

  • +5

    Update on refund:

My $69 payment was pending for processing when I initially asked for refund 2 days ago (first agent declined, second agent agreed for refund).
    Payment appeared on CC yesterday.
Contacted agent over mobile chat now asking for refund, gave him previous reference number and he has processed the refund which should appear on same CC in next few days.

Thank you all for posting this and answering all the queries.

  • Had a chat with them in app and got the $69 refund processed as well. Gonna pickup the ipad today.

    • Did you contact them previously as well or waited until your payment was cleared ?

      • Contacted before to cancel the plan. Then once payment cleared, chat with them again to get the refund. You can wait and do it all in one chat.

  • they wouldnt let me get a refund on the $69 saying contract clearly mentions no refunds on the initial up front $69.

    • Try again with a different person. Many have done so successfully

  • What's the reason you guys gave for the $69 refund? I just told them it's not needed and I been thru 8 people and all refused. They also read thru previous conversations and all gave the same reasons

    • Sounds like a lot of work for $69 when you're already winning by a good amount, each to their own.

      • It probably depends how many iPads he bought ,
That arnie szarsannergr guy bought 5 ,
        that could add up .
        (345)

    • It sucks that different operators give difference answers. I guess I was fortunate with the 1st one. I just asked if I don't use the service could it be refunded, and he said it could be refunded if the request is made in the first 24-48 hours. I'm not sure if your request was made outside that period? I also had to recontact them after the payment had cleared to seek the refund (about 3 days later). But that was quick too - once I gave the reference they refunded instantly.

    • +1

Yeah, same I tried chatting few people and they all refusing to refund ^$69, asking me to visit the store and ask for the refund :/

      • Same for me. I think that ship as sailed. I should have done on the day I orders! (30.5)

  • I already had a Telstra account so $69 was charged and refunded automatically by the system, $479.90 device payment which someone from Telstra has actually told me it can be paid off within 6 months which is another win for me.

    • How does one pay off the $479.90 over 6 months?

    • how does it get refunded automatically. I also have a telstra account. I managed to cancel the services but the 69$ wasnt refunded.

    • Hey Jumanji can you clarify what you were told?

I asked the rep about this and was given the below information:
      - if the payment fails, you can then make payments slowly
      - Credit reports will not be notified but, it will affect your Telstra internal credit, any orders will be hold, including change of plan since the system will not allow us process an order for digital orders only. Order online or moving to the new upfront plans.

I was thinking of paying it over 3 repayments but would rather not risk any dings to my credit

  • Curious question, after terminating the plan, when you should expect the email for paying $479? I cancel my planned it been a week still no email for payment. Thanks

    • +2

You should have something in the Telstra or JB app hopefully, check the payments/billing section

      • +1

Thanks, Found it on Telstra app :)

        • Thanks for the tips, found it too. Interesting that you can see it on Telstra app (make sense though if JB mobile is just the white label of Telstra)

  • Not able to get the $69 refunded. When I cancelled they told me they would, now they're telling me it was declined because I didn't use the service and that I have to visit the store. And told me what the previous rep said is irrelevant, basically.

    • -1

So what's your problem - they told you clearly there was an upfront payment on sign up and it was documented. You signed up knowing this may be charged and you were. You've still benefited from this deal very nicely.

      • +1

Wouldn't have cared if they told me no when I cancelled it, but they told me it'd be refunded and it seems they changed their mind. Not sure why that should be allowed.

Rep was also basically changing the terms on the fly — first said it couldn't be cancelled without a valid reason, then because "it had to be used for 1 or 2 days first", then said it couldn't be refunded because of terms.

It just seems to be based on who the rep is, others have gotten refunds. I'll try one more time another day.

  • This was the best deal in ages if you were shameless and really took advantage by signing up and cancelling multiple times .
Theoretically if you were to have done this a fair few times , then returned the iPads for gift cards and bought an iPad pro with said gift cards , ( maybe even price matched a deal ) then you basically would have gotten it for free + converted your cash to JB gift cards with the same?+value .

Hopefully more deals like this to come .
    Gotta keep checking…

    • I think the party is over. If you read the fine print now it says ‘e.g., $700 will replace the voucher repayment fee’

  • Probably why I said this Was the best deal , as in past tense .

    • Yeah, but at the end you said ‘Hopefully more deals like this to come.’ that is why I said party is over because they changed fine print on their webpage.

      • Ok ,
        My mistake
my comprehension skills are getting bad ,
Was a hell of a deal at any rate ,
        basically free iPads ,
        or free jb dollaroos .

      • +1

        Did you mean this?

The $700 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will replace the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary.

The ”Voucher” and “Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee” are 2 separate things. The quote above was referring to the “Voucher” section only. AFAIK when I talked to my local JB she said the voucher repayment fee base will never change, only the voucher section will

        • This is the first time that I saw it on the webpage that states about the any corresponding amount (current voucher offer) replaces the voucher stated on the CIS. I need to confirm this with my local JB staff. If this is the case now, not much people will sign up and be locked for 24 months paying $69 or $99 per month

          • @AirJordan23: The iPad and mobile internet can all be claimed with ATO. For someone on 45% bracket, you are paying next to nothing over 2 years. This deal can be a great bargain for them :)

          • @AirJordan23: It is just to avoid confusion. In critical summary, voucher is $500 so people may think it is only $500 instead of the correct amount which is $700, or $1000 like this expired deal.

  • For the $69/month plan, the CIS states you’ll receive a $500 voucher. The clause “The $700 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will replace the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary” is about what you will receive, not what you will have to repay. The maximum voucher repayment fee remains at $500, which is actually $479 because it’s pro rata and you’ve technically used the first month. You’ll be $152-221 in front (depending on Telstra refunding you the first $69 payment). Still a good deal.

    • -1

Oh okay that is good then if that's what is means.

      • -1

It’s what it means. Has been there for about twelve months now.

    • It’s a good deal if you are buying a cheap iPad, around $700 mark. If you want to buy an iPad Air or Pro > $1,500 then the saving of $152-221 will become less attractive. You’d be better off by waiting for a combo of discount gift cards + extra savings from deals at JB or Apple AOC…

      • Even for ipad pro, still good deal. Price match to Costco or Apple Education ($1529), you end up paying 529+479 for the pro 11” 256GB Wifi. Even better if you pay the balance by Gift card.

        • Yeah that was before the deal was ended. Now with the gift card value of $700, you’ll pay $829 + 479 instead. The saving is $1529 - (829 + 479) = $221 which is good but it’s not much more than Apple gift cards at 15% (admittedly a bit rare these days) + cash back from Cashrewards… that’s assumed you can price match Costco or AOC in the first place.

Buying a higher storage such as 512GB or 13” and the saving will be much less than the traditional discounts.

  • So then the terms haven’t changed , just the offered amount in the current deal .
So if they offer another $1000 voucher, making you $520-450 profit per sign up and don’t change the terms in the meantime, it will be on again.
Obviously Telstra and JB did concurrent promotions with Apple which resulted in the perfect storm , resulting in me being very happy with said result .

I do kinda see what Gerry meant by us being professionals ,
but it was too good too resist .

  • +1

My Telstra points have landed into my account

    • So jb hifi plan can collect telstra points?

      • +1

No, old ones do. If you weren’t on an older plan as the terms state, you don’t get points. Those on older plans who add a service get points and don’t pay first month up front.

        • This made me pissed off with Telstra. They accidentally cancelled my old jb 400gb plan and unable to restore it. Now i am on new plan through jb again, and collecting points. I have the case with TIO.

  • I just got all the first months that I asked for to be refunded by messaging them ,
and gently reminding them , that I had asked previously ,
All done in one convo through the JB App .
Just be polite and grateful ,
    They’re happy to help .
