Isn’t the display better on the iPad ?

    Is it worth buying AppleCare?

    • +4

      No

    • YES for new iPad Pro and new Air. Only Applecare+ is eligible for screen repair at $45 from Apple store. Otherwise, only replacement is avaialble and its' $1689 for ipad pro 13", $1439 for Pro 11", $1029 for Air 13" and $739 for Air 11".

      • +1

How much we talking for Applecare+ on an iPad Air?

  • +3

Guys, sorry, this is all a bit confusing for me.
So we buy an ipad of choice, with the $69 plan, minus $1000.
Then we take it home and jump on telstra chat and cancel the $69 plan, pay the $500 early termination fee, therefore $500 profit/discount on the ipad?
    Is that right?

    • +2

      Yup, sounds about right

    • +1

      Use JB app for chat

      • TY

  • Hi, those who have done this - does it show on the contract that the Max Voucher Repayment Fee would be $500 when you sign it?

    • Yes

      • Perfect. Thanks mate! Headed into a store this afternoon.

  • +7

Signed up. Got $1000 voucher. Used for iPad Air. Purchased for $919. $81 left on gift card. Jumped on chat. Cancelled contract. Requested $69 refund. Got it. Pay out $479.01. New iPad Air and $80 JB Hi Fi voucher for $479.01. OzBargained!

    • +2

      isnt Ipad Air 997?

      • he price matched it to apple union edu price

    • Was this JB Chat to cancel contract and ask for the $69 refund?
And you paid via chat too?

I can't find any air for that price. They're all $997.

      • Price match with Edu store

        • Wow nice that they're matching the edu store. Did you just show it to them and tell them it's edu store and they just agreed to match?

          • +1

@lordra: Rep consulted with a senior, initially they declined that cannot be done with voucher but then another rep said it is all good as he has price matched few before. But he didn’t offer any discount for USB C pencil so my amount was $1058

    • @JutakuHome

    • Same got today however none was in stock so it will be shipped to me.

Shall I wait for iPad to arrive before cancellation? Just to be on the safe side!!

      • Yes

    • Did you give a reason to cancel?

      • +1

Not really. Just said I don’t think I’ll use it

    • Did you get the $69 refund from JB Mobile chat or regular JB Chat?

  • Side question - Anyone know whats a good screen protector for the iPad Air 11" M2? I dont use a pencil but i have children who im sure will drop it.

  • For those who are still on the hunt in case it's useful.

    Advertised note: https://ibb.co/S5f1QC2

Bought an iPad Air 11 and an iPad Pro 11 for me and the missus. The sales guy insisted for both to be on the same transaction to use all the $2,000 vouchers. He didn't look like he would allow keeping the leftovers as gift card.

    • Dont you have to top up to get both ipad air 11 and ipad pro 11?

      • That's what I calculated also unless the rep meant the $900 iPad Air would have 100$ left over and you would need to buy an additional iPad to use it. 😅

I woulda just got next storage up.

  • +1

I tried to sign up this afternoon, but unfortunately, due to my status as an student, I received a low score in Telstra's credit check and couldn't get the plan. 😔

    • +1

Try again at another store ,
this time point at the next line up when they ask how much you pull in .

      • +1

yes sir🫡 hope I can get what I want on the last day.

        • Although it feels unfair, I still failed 😔. Despite Commonwealth showing my credit score as excellent, Telstra still gave me a low score, and it cannot be changed by modifying the information I provided.

  • +1

I ended up doing this deal today, purchased an M4 iPad Pro Wifi for $1529 (EDU price match). They didn't have any left in store so I had to do a JB Direct order. Confirmed that the ETC is indeed $500, which shows as $479 straight away because the first payment is deducted. Chat advised they can refund the first payment only within the first 24-48 hours. Although it feels like an 'unethical lifehack', I've spent thousands on Telstra bills over the years so I'll sleep easy.

    • Have you cancelled and got $69 refunded?

I also placed JB Direct order but thinking should I receive iPad first then cancel?

      • +1

I’m not going to cancel until the order ships. I just wanted to confirm the ETC. I might keep the data for a month anyway, just not sure. Will decide tomorrow

        • Another quick one, can we use JB website chat to cancel or does it have to be through JB mobile app?

          • +1

@sigma: I’m not sure about the website. I used the chat in the app. I suspect it just links to a Telstra rep because it seems to operate the same. But I’m not sure

          • @sigma: Did yours ship out today? Mine shipped out at about lunchtime. I cancelled the plan this afternoon

    • +1

I too will sleep VERY well tonight. This is on them. We’ve just abided by the T&Cs. Nothing unethical about that - isn’t that what T&Cs are for?

      • Yes that is very true, and I thought that after I posted the comment. We're just exercising the terms of the contract, and there's nothing wrong with that.

    • How did you manage the EDU price match? The rep I spoke to at the time said I had to go through a different team and they weren't able to price match Education pricing despite being shown a screenshot or webpage on my phone.

      • The first rep I asked in the PC area just said no. So I went over to the mobile phone area and just asked if they were able to do education pricing for iPads and the guy was really helpful and just said yes. I didn't have to push hard. The only thing he wanted to sight was proof (i.e. student card, teacher details, etc).

        • Thanks! Guess it is luck of the draw with the person you get. Will keep that in mind for the future.

        • Just to confirm. So to price match edu store you need to provide student card?

          • @OhNoUShiz: It wasn’t set in stone, just some meaningful proof that you qualify for the discount.

  • +2

Just for anyone on the fence I’ll add my experience. Confirmed with staff about the deal however they stated etc is minimum repayment plus pro rata voucher / 24 months. I did my due diligence and read through whole thread and double checked etc required. Got my iPad Air 11 m2 despite staff advising etc cost and cancelled with JB chat 2 mins later, $499 cancellation will be processed in 10 business days.

As I already had a Telstra account I didn’t need to pay the first repayment. Deal ends tomorrow so get it while you can! To reiterate, just get it and cancel, some staff won’t know about the etc cost

    • Are you using an existing telstra id to sign up the new plan? I cant use an existing account and ended up with a new telstra id. I intend to keep the new sign up and is hoping to transfer the new plan to my existing telstra id.

      • They just ask if you have an existing Telstra account, when they run your id they will be able to see it. I didn’t have to provide any Telstra account details. Regarding transfer I don’t think you can as the mobile services offered by JB are different if you were to get it from Telstra

        • They did pull out my account but i have to give them a new email as telstra id.

  • +3

Hi all, Just want to share my experience.
I went for a M2 Air 128gb with case and paid the difference.
In process of cancelling the MBB over JBhifi chat now.
Yep can confirm $479.09 final bill. I see on the app they have prepaid the $69 first month but hopefully being cancelled within 1hr of getting it will cancel :)

Id like to thank everyone that bought iPads before me and shared their experiences, Really made it easy for me to do the same
A little legwork reaped massive savings you couldnt get with GC cashbacks!

  • Managed to get an iPad Air M2 11 and Apple Pencil type c for $1038 in total. Early termination fee is $499.92.

    • Pen c is $239. How did you get it less than 100.

        • My guy at store only happen to knock off $30 max.

          • +1

@OhNoUShiz: My guy knocked off $1 for the pencil. I said cya later mate

            • +1

@joomon: Wtf. Sometimes they sounds rude. I went up today to collect my iPad on parked order. I asked for price match and get the differences back in gift card. The lady at the counter went oh so many paper works. I smiled and replied so sorry for the trouble caused.

  • +2

Used live chat to cancel plan just now. Very easy and quick. Quoted $479 termination fee and will be getting my $69 initial payment refunded. All up paying $479 for an iPad Air 11 128gb (managed to get it price matched to edu store for $919) and an $81 gift card. :) Thank you to everyone who commented their experiences. They really helped

    • May I ask what reason did you give to cancel?

For me it is $479 also but rep is not refunding $69 saying it is upfront. In that case I may keep it for a month!

      • Maybe try again with a different live chat agent, some will do it but some won’t.

      • I just said I no longer needed the plan, think it depends which agent you chat to so maybe try again

    • Is it just normal JB live chat or like in JB mobile app chat?

    • They quoted me as $479 too only, when I asked about $69, they said it will stay as a charge and cannot refund

  • -4

Can the iPad be returned for store credit?

    • I would also like to know this as the missus needs a new iPhone, could I get an iPad then return it during the iPhone transaction?

  • Telstra points work?

  • I’ve cancelled yesterday, my plan not in the app anymore. When does the Early termination fee get deducted from your card?

    • Did you need to create the telstra id in order for it to appear in jb ?

    • I'm waiting for my early termination fee to get deducted as well.

  • What do you reckon a base 9th gen iPad will sell for?

  • Don't bother with Roseland. Refused to put the reminder on gift card. I wont be going there ever again.

  • Heads up - this is new to the JB plans (saw this on the TGG deal posted)

Available to port-in and new customers only (excluding JB Upfront/Prepaid, The Good Guys Mobile & Broadband, Telstra or Boost). The JB Hi-Fi Gift Card (referred to as the “JB Hi-Fi Voucher” in the Telstra Telstra Terms and Conditions) will be available to you instore after connection approval by Telstra. The $700 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will replace the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary. If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term. This offer is not available in conjunction with any other JB Hi-Fi mobile or broadband offer. Gift Card subject to Terms and Conditions. Gift card offer ends 5/06/24.

If the above is true, this means that the $1000 off any iPad will be replaced in the CIS

    • uh oh - I just got mine

      • You going to cancel before the end of the day? Let me know how it goes. Keen to try it before the end of the day if still valid.

      • As long as your CIS when you signed it at the store states $500, you should be fine

I just can’t recall if that clause is new or not

        • Oh! the lady showed me the screen saying $500 and even let me know that was the amount I'd have to pay back if I cancelled the plan.

          • +1

@theguyrules: Called a store to confirm, she knew what she was talking too
She said they don’t change that part of the CIS, been like that for ages for these special promos as it’s JB that are offering the discount, not Telstra

        • If you search google using this sentence, you can find same sentence in older caltalogue. It's not new.

    • The ‘value of the voucher’ is not the same as the ‘voucher repayment fee’. Voucher repayment fee can’t be changed once you’ve signed. ‘Value of the voucher’ clause is referring to the increased voucher amounts they offer above standard from time to time. It’s been like this for months now.

      • Ahhh, I panicked a bit, thanks for confirming!

        • +1

          Relax and enjoy your savings

        • -1

JB and Telstra may reinstate ETC like older plan. I signed up $69 same plan with $0 upfront iPad Pro 11 3rd gen in 2022. It is old plan and it has ETC. If I cancel plan, I need to pay ETC + pro-rata of voucher repayment fee.

    • +1

Just got the IPad Air M2 + Pencil Pro price matched to edu store. Triple checked the CIS and terms as this was after your comment.

In my email confirmation, the CIS linked still stated $500 maximum voucher repayment fee.

Tried to cancel after in the JB Mobile App chat. Rep won't refund the $69 but confirmed an ETC of $479.09.

Guess I'll try again later or maybe through phone. Otherwise could just use the sim for a month as well.

  • +1

Second attempt at live chat and the person confirmed I could get a refund for the $69 once the payment clears my credit card.
I have a reference and will use that to make sure it happens!

    • Did they state any reason why the $69 can be refunded?

I'm going to try again later as well. If there's any info that can help, I'll just let them know upfront.

      • +1

Nope, they just said "yes of course"
The first guy was like "NO".

  • +2

Same as @davida05 got the ipad air 11 wifi 128GB and apple pencil for $1038, however it was around 45 minutes between me walking into and walking out of the store, but this was time well spent!
Same as @theguyrules 1st attempt didn't want to refund the $69. Uninstalled and reinstalled the app, on 2nd attempt the agent was happy to refund the $69 with an ETC of $479.09. Have a reference number and screen shoted everything!

    Thanks all!

    • Can i check abt login to jb hi app? Do you need to create the account? I cant see my service in there.

      • +1

I used the JB Hi-Fi Mobile app, no need to log in, just go to "Get help" at the bottom of your screen. There should be an email from "[email protected]" with the 04xxxxxxxx mobile number in it.

  • +1

Just saw a poster that this offer had been extended to 26/06.

Walked in JB and they said Telstra system is down, so they can't register any customers

    • I signed up an hour ago. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the price match.

  • +1

Might be optimistic, but hoping that this is extended to 26/6 and theres another sweet $30 for $300 spend perk.

    • Why is there another sweet $30?
