      • Surely they would learn from now

  • Can anyone confirm if a tax invoice is provided for the iPad purchase? I need it to claim a refund through the TRS.

    • +1

      Yes, you do.

  • +1

Thanks OP! Picked up an 11” M4 Pro 256GB under my name and a 11” M2 Air 128GB under my wife’s name 😁
Now I gotta wait for the Logitech combo touch case to launch in Aussie on 18 June 😒

  • +5

Completed cancellation. No fuss, just a call to their filipino call centre. $479 is the fee for cancellation.

Total out of pocket cost: $479+$69 = $549

    Purchased an iPad Air 11" M2 128GB RRP = $999

  • For anyone buying something under the limit, it's worth mentioning that the gift card has no expiry date. So there's no rush in finding something else to buy (which usually ends up being the case when they only last a year or so).

    • so in my case - I can buy the iPad and a camera lens?

      • If you buy an iPad that costs $600 you will get a $400 jbhifi gift card with no expiry date. You can use it whenever you want for whatever you want.

        • ahh thanks for this. This changes everything.

        • And then you only have to pay Telstra another $69 when you cancel right?

So say planning to buy $587 iPad 10th gen, so what I will have to pay in total after cancelling?

          • @BinnyC: Scroll up a bit and I added the numbers already earlier (as that's what we did)

  • If the store doesn't have the particular ipad I want in stock, do they just order it in or will I be allowed to take the gift card?

    • they can order it in, or they can secure stock at a different outlet, and you would have to go pick up from that outlet.

    • This is what happened to me last night. They just gave me the 1k gift card 😆

      • Which store is this please? Happy for you to PM too. Cheers!

        • There is a way to always get the gift card, doesn’t have to be a specific store.

          • @T-man: @T-man how do you get the gift card without the iPad ?
I don't need an Ipad but i could do with a giftcard to use towards something else

  • If I have an existing mobile phone account with Telstra, would it rule me out from this deal?

    • no

      • @Rashed - do you mean no that I can't get this deal?

        • should have explained better - no, it wont rule you out, I got my mobile with Telstra, and got this deal, no issue.

          • @Rashed: Thanks mate! Appreciate the experience sharing. Will try to get it done this weekend then!

  • How come on the website it is $700 gift card and i rang a store confirms that.

    • its an in-store only deal, it says on the title.

      • Yeah, I rang the store checking on the mobile broadband plan not about this ozbargain deal. The staff told me if I signed up i will get $700 Jb hifi voucher with no expiry date. He didn't mention about the ipad deal.

        • +1

from my experience, for in-store deals, you would have to go in-store (they wont offer/do these deals online, or over the phone).

        • +1

As far as I could see the $700 is for the mobile phone deal. The $1000 is for the iPad deal. There were posters up in the store.

I simply went up to a counter and asked about the mobile broadband iPad deal they had going, and they brought it up on screen.

It's a nationwide deal, so not store or ozbargain specific, so you're all good to go in and ask them about it.

  • Sorry being lazy, any ipad worth picking up under or just nice at $1k without out of pocket?

    • +2

      Maybe Ipad Air M2 11" 128Gb for $997

      • Is it an overkill device just for video streaming?

        • +1

100% it is. you can go with the 10th Gen iPad and use the rest on something else you want from JB

          • @Fasian: I am in a situation telstra screwed me. They accidentally cancel my mobile broadband service which has 400gb monthly cap. Its been 3 days yet still no reply from case manager. I only need the mobile broadband not the ipad, is it worth getting and sell it sealed?

            • @OhNoUShiz: I personally say no. There are cheaper ways to get an MBB plan.

When I was selling at Vodafone, I would sell normal Sim only plans with big data and get them to use that as MBB. Cheaper as well

  • +1

Just done this in WA in the past hour. Grabbed a iPad 10th gen plus a cover. Called up straight after and cancelled for a 480 fee. 560 all up for 1k worth of product, great deal. Just gotta nervously wait for the cancellation invoice now

    • Did they give case for free?

      • No I just got a cheaper iPad under the 1000 gift card total and used the remaining credit to buy it

  • +4

My experience has been similar to others but slightly different info.

    • Went for the iPad Air M2 11" 128Gb for $997 but they weren't able to do any discounts on it (they even pointed to the wording saying it has to be off the listed price)
    • Had to show ID and use a credit card for initial payment of $69
    • Got the remainder $3 on the gift card to use another day
    • Got a physical printed tax invoice and sms receipt for $997
    • Also got a tax invoice on the app for the $69
    • Went to https://jbmobile.jbhifi.com.au to get my broadband phone number (it's also listed in the JB Hi-Fi app)
    • Called the JB Mobile Support number 135075 to cancel the plan
    • Guy there said there would be a $479 fee but said it would be taken straight out of my payment method (not invoiced to me)
    • They asked me for the reason of cancelling, I just said I didn't need it.
    • They also said the initial $69 will be refunded back to my payment method in 10-12 days
    • Apart from the initial $69, nothing else has been charged so far. My account now no longer shows the data plan.

So might be iPad M2 for $479 + $3 left on JB Gift Card. Will also get $100 back on credit card (NAB Low Rate CC Promo)

    • Oh my, does paying for the first month only support credit cards?

    • +1

Same experience to the tee for me except I wasn’t told if get my first months payment back.

    • So will you get an invoice for iPad?

      • Yeah will get an invoice eventually. Had a mate at Telstra confirm it’s been cancelled with the bill of 479 due by the 17th

      • The iPad has been paid for by the $1000 gift card. You get an early termination fee of the mobile plan charged directly to the credit card used for purchase. For me they quoted a termination fee of $479.

  • Just went into Queen st QLD - was told I would need to pay back the $1,000

    • guess party is over

    • Just cancelled, still $479 + $69 1st month. Even the JB staff told me you'll basically got $500 off if you cancel the plan.

      • I will try at another store

    • They can’t tell you that, its in their terms and conditions of the contract, they can’t just make it up as they go

      • yeah - I asked oh so what happens if I wanna cancel? They said quote "You will need to pay back the FULL value of the voucher"

        • Full value voucher is $500. They are not wrong. You just misunderstood.

          • @NoBargainNoLife: He said it 1000/X numbers of month

            • @Fasian: He doesn't know the T&Cs. If he looked at the contract it indicates a $69 monthly mobile broadband plan is linked to a $500 ETC no matter what special offer the store is running at the moment.

            • @Fasian: Geez, he doesn’t know the TC. https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/help/critical-in…

Open it up show him the $500 or try another staff. The store I went apparently have done a few so they know crystal clear.

              • @NoBargainNoLife: Proceeded to try to sell me a phone plan to top it off.

              • +2

@NoBargainNoLife: I ended up finding another staff at another store - they were happy to do it for me.

                • @Fasian: Glad to hear that! Enjoy

                • @Fasian: Hey! Which store did you go to? I'm in Brisbane as well

                  • +1

@peskyMatt: Hey mate - I did mine in Browns Plains. I tried Queen st and Oxley. Didn't work. You can potentially try the MacArthur Central or the other JB where you go up the escalator if you are in the CBD.

                    • @Fasian: Thank you!!! I'll try Indooroopilly and report back

                      • @peskyMatt: I recommend just getting them to pull up the CIS and point out 500 if you want to go to that length

    • They told you wrong information, just sign up and walk away. No need to ask for further information.

      • I even reference the CIS and they said nope. Pay back the 1k/24.

Yup - walked into another store and the person there did it for me. Knowing that I would cancel the day after.

Gave that staff a great review.

  • Just went to JB to buy iPad 10th gen $587 and guy refused to give rest on gift card. Said have to buy accessories for rest..

    • The store I went to said "It's up to manager discreption"

      • The guy did not cooperate at all, first said we don't have it in stock, then when I said will buy two then found the stock but then said you have to buy second one using gift card balance or forfeit it and have two connections.

      • No luck, tried again and ended up buying more stuff for the difference amount.

        • Same with the first store I tried or do any other options with it. 2nd store also refused but the staff is kind enough allow me to get 2 iPad 10th gen (which I don't mind) and he matched Apple Edu too ($559). So, paying $118 upfront for the iPad then will deal with the plan as others said

          • +1

@hanofee: Yeah I bought a 10th gen and with the rest of balance, bought 9th gen one. So, $587 plus $429. Out of pocket was $16.

  • +1

Just bought a iPad Air M2 11" 128Gb for $997 + Cygnett TekView Folio Case for iPad Air 11" M2 for $35, Came to $32 with a full tax reciept.
Got home and cancelled the service within an hour of picking up, agent on the phone said $479.09 early termination fee + $69 for first bill/connection.

    • +1

How did you cancel as I was trying to do the same but the centre seems to be closed when I tried the phone number.

      • If you cancel within 1 months, you will be charged $500 x 23/24 = $479. If you already paid first $69, you don't need to cancel until next billing. Use 200GB data then cancel it before next billing.

  • I am feeling very encouraged by all of this.

I think I’ll be testing out Canberra City JB tomorrow at lunch time.

For those with experience, how does the TRS work? There’s somewhere at the airport, does it need to be in original packaging?

Edit: some light googling later and reading the (surprisingly helpful) ABF page, it seems that I need a paper receipt, positive identification and some patience as I leave the country (using the app ahead of time will expedite things), and then declare it on the way back in, and the first $900 is waived under the “passenger concession allowance.” So on a $997 iPad, I’d be liable for the gst on $97 ($9.70), is that right?

Do people have experience as to whether they even check on the way back through customs?

  • Has anyone had the issue of the application to Telstra pending? It’s shows in the JB computer as pending. I have been billed but no services show on my Telstra account. Ergo, no iPad released by JB.

    • Any updates? Mine is stuck on pending too.

  • I've never been checked, without anything to declare, on return to Melb airport after claiming TRS

  • Their call centre is closed on weekends? Trying to ring them up and it saying their center is closed. Call back during business hours

  • And also What’s the difference between cancelling the day after vs the cancelling on day say 29, get a free month of data.

    • I think as someone said. U will be billed for the first month. So you may as well burn the 200GB of data

    • If you pay $69 when you sign up mobile broadband plan, it's first upfront plan fee. So, you can use 200GB for 30 days and you need to cancel it before next billing. If you miss it before next billing, you will be charged another $69 (but the cancellation fee will be reduced to $500 x 22/24 = $458).

      • This.
But for peace of mind I canceled it today as I was told by the staff that they even also think this offer must be a glitch as it is too good to be true and might be changed anytime.
In that case I decided to cancel it in stead of later on receiving a wrong bill then have to argue etc.
BTW I used the sim in my iPad Pro m1 pretty good speed and coverage, a bit reluctant to cancel so early but I did anyway.

        • Even if JB/Telstra change T&C, it will apply to only new sale. They can't apply newly changed T&C to old sales.

          • @mjkwon74: That’s why I said if they did then you need to argue…I am sure you will win but just don’t want that hassle. I don’t need the sim anyway I have got one.

        • They printed for me an early termination voucher fee sheet before I’ve signed with them. So they can’t change it. They can do it for new purchases from now on, but customers that signed under these conditions they can’t change it. It’s a breach of contract.
The same as saying, no exit fee, to only change it after you sign up.

Also the promo goes for another 4 days.

Possibly Apple and JB fixing their sales numbers for EOFY tax purposes

13" iPad Air wifi bought in the last hour… cancelled contract already…. $1219 (after Apple edu discount) - $219 OOP, plus $479 cancellation fee, plus $69 :)

    • How did you cancel as I can’t get through the phones today?

      • +1

I’ve just cancelled mine via the chat function in the JB Hifi mobile app. Took about 5 mins and confirmed charge of $479.

        • Nice, thanks for the tip!

      • i called 135075, on problems getting thru

    • Are you a student? Do they ask for Student ID while providing education discount or negotiation is possible without a student ID? Please update.

      • i asked if he could price match apple edu, he said yes. he didn't seem to care. later when we were checking out, he asked for id, and i said it was at home. he thought about it for a nano-second, realised he'd already done 99% of the work, and said not to worry

        • Thank you for the update. Great deal.

    • Does your JB mobile app still show the service after cancellation through chat?

      • shows as "no accounts to display"

        • Weird, mine still shows the service as active even after cancellation through chat 🧐 perhaps need to wait a bit I guess?

          • @joeiwu: Yeah just wait a bit. Mine still showed up immediately after cancelling but I’ve just checked again and it is gone now. Also got an email confirming cancellation.

Picked up an 11” Air 128 GB model this morning. Got the USB-C Apple Pencil too for a total of $1046, so $46 out of pocket, plus the $69 first month plan fee. Cancelled via the chat in the JB app just now and confirmed cancellation fee of $479.09, will be automatically charged to my card. Very happy with that. Thanks OP and everyone in the thread for posting your experiences. Cracking deal.

    • Which jb hifi did you go to?
