Apple MacBook Pro 14" M4 Pro 14/20 Core CPU/GPU, 24GB RAM, 1TB SSD $3597 + Delivery ($0 to Metro Areas/ C&C) @ Officeworks

Pretty nice deal on Macbook Pro's latest M4 Pro, even below the edu price. Discounts on current-gen Apple Macbooks are unheard of so I thought it's worth sharing.

This price is only for the Space Black option - Silver has the normal price of $3,997 that's on every other retailer.

Not sure if it's a pricing error as it doesn't even have a BF or sales tag so it's probably best to grab it in person or get JB Hi-Fi etc. to price match.

  • I want this spec but with 48GB RAM, and I have been waiting for a edu store cash back deal, but as it stands now this Officeworks deal is ~$650 cheaper. I really need to think about how much I need that RAM

    • I am trying to buy 24gb ram with 2tb space. But looks like it will only be available at apple.

I was in the same boat but after a bit of research and seeing benchmarks came to the conclusion that 95% of the time I won’t need that amount. Of course, it depends on the workload.

    • Look at the benchmark reviews. RAM as we think about it in the x86 windows world is a different beast to the Arm Mac’s. 24 GB should be more then enough for the vast majority of use cases

      • It’s a good idea, I’ll try to find some real world tests. The two things that I wonder about are:

        1. I’m a dev and with VM’s, dev tools, debugging sessions, etc. I often end up in “red” memory pressure on my M1 Mac Mini with 16 GB - and I think 24GB will fix that.

BUT 2. Apple Intelligence will obviously have a RAM impact (Apple has upped the base models from 8 to 16 GB for that reason) so then throw that on top as well and I’m wondering if 24GB will start to be limiting. It’s a bit of an unknown at this stage

  • I have just ordered the 16” MacBook for the same price (but with a 512Gb SSD) — Harvey Norman have the same laptop for $1 more. I’m a bit bummed about the colour, I’d prefer Silver.

  • +1

The black scratches easily as it’s anodized, I’d be careful with watches that scratch the palm rest. I initially ordered black but switched to silver for this reason.

I think you can get this cheaper at the apple aoc store for 3550.80.

  • Something to keep in mind with the faster 14/20 M4 Pro vs the weaker 12/16 M4 Pro is that it will likely draw more power under load, sacrificing maybe a few hours of battery life.

Gotta weigh up whether you need that extra 10-15% performance vs longer battery life with your needs and use cases.

I don't think it's been extensively tested but it's my best guess that they use the same battery capacity in both models

  • Ok, so I returned the Space Black model, and purchased the Silver instead. It is $40 cheaper at the AOC store.
