$49 technically I guess as the starting price for the iPad was $997, but unclear if I would have got to keep the $3 remaining on the GC if I hadn’t used it. Rep suggested that if I was interested in getting the pencil he could do a deal. RRP on the pencil is $139. Initially he offered to do it for $99 and I said I’d leave it. So he asked me what price I’d be happy with. Ended up with him agreeing to price match a random price I found online for the iPad at ~$950 which brought it down to $1046 total. On the receipt it has the ipad at $907 and the pencil at full RRP for reasons I didn’t totally understand.

So on the one hand it seems like a good deal and I’m happy but on the other hand I wasn’t intending to buy a pencil so JB successfully got another $46 out of me that I hadn’t been planning to spend…

        • Thanks for the detailed reply. Is it convenient for you to share the receipt please, so i can use it for price match.

  • I finally managed to do this - took 3 stores. The staff at the 3rd store understood the CIS and the terms. Also - remember to redeem your JB Hi-FI perks as well. :)

    • there are any additional benefits with perks?

      • +1

        further $10 discount. :)

  • JB Canberra civic wouldn’t match education completely, met in the middle (about 5% off). iPad Air 256gb. Stock was out completely in most colours and storage options.

Cancelled via the JB web chat function. $479.09 termination fee.

    • How do you cancel via chat? Just go to the normal chat on JB website? The 135075 is closed until Monday

      • waiting on this as well.

      • Well I just downloaded the mobile app onto my phone and got a bit of a runaround trying to log in , so I downloaded the mobile app onto an iPad then was bounced back and forth try to log in with codes and usernames and eventually logged into an account I didn’t even know I had and managed to start a chat , obviously the guy has just been doing this all day so some sympathy there but management has probably schooled them on customer retention , so that took a while.
Couple of hours later and all done , too easy ..
But if they think I’m going too come back tomorrow just to save $450 on another iPad they’ve got another thing coming !

      • Yeah, through https://jbmobile.jbhifi.com.au/

There’s a chat function in there somewhere.

        • Can’t seem to reach chat without linking an account once logged in. Telstra login keeps on looping. Signs in and then signs out back to the jb mobile login page. Any ideas. Tried on the app, browser on pc and Mac.

Got a 128GB 11” M2 iPad Air, price matched Costco down to $950 and kept the gift card with $50 remaining on it.
I had an old Telstra account so they activated my sim too fast, so I’m on the hook for first month $69 - $20 prorated voucher repayment. So that just cancels out the $50 gift card I took home.

Finally got M4 IPP price matched to apple edu store.

now cancel this plan and 135075 is closed until Monday.

    • done all completed.

      • how do i cancel via app, can’t seem to find option to chat to someone and call centre is closed?

        • you can start a chat inside the app.

          • @Fasian: yeh that’s what i’m trying to find, which tab?

            • @nijatk: Home screen - > bottom get help -> scroll down and go message us

              • @Fasian: thx just stumbled on it now, suppose i just ask them to close it and i don’t need it anymore?

                • @nijatk: What I reccommend is - wait out the full month and use the data. You already paid for it. They said it can't be pro rata

    • Can you share how much is it for iPad Pro m4 11' on edu store?

      • +1

        1529 for base

    • How can we check the JB education pricing? Its only showing limited iPads to me when I am logging in using my child’s access code.

Just got update i dont know what you got but i got charge the ETC fees x remaining max 1188$, so can someone share how you got out ETC fees on telstra? thanks

    • really??? how did you cancel?

    • Was you canceled through jbhifi chat?

    • how did you cancel the service? by phone or chat?

Hi xxxx once we cancel your service you will be charge for the early termination fee amounting to $479.09 would you like to proceed?

this is the from my chat history and i have saved for future reference.

    • +1

That doesn’t even make sense, how are you getting charged at $1188 when you only got $1000 worth of vouchers?

    • Where do you see that amount?

  • +2

Just some crazy troll dude ,
that only has one other comment to his account .

  • -1

Have they lowered the gift card amount to $700? If you check the mobile broadband plans on their website, they have a gift card deal for $700 that ends on the 5th of June. Anyone know if this is the same thing? - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/mobile-broadband-plans

    • +1

That deal’s for if you wanna buy a mobile. This is a separate deal for a broadband plan that includes $1,000 towards iPads only.

  • Anyone know if we can do this hack more than once?

I did this successfully on Wednesday to get my mum an iPad Air.

Now I kinda wanna get myself the new iPad Pro 13”, but I’m curious if I try this again they might see that I’ve already done this before only a few days ago? As they use your phone number to look you up in their system as they sign you up for the mobile broadband. I’m worried I’ll get the stink eye from staff knowing I’m trying to get another free $500.

I don’t have another mobile number handy to use on sign up. Anyone have any ideas?

    • +3

Get your Mum to get you an ipad pro 😂

      • this is the way. my wife won’t play ball

    • Are you not allowed to have more than one Telstra mobile broadband account?

      Is this an ethical question?

The sales guys mentioned Ozbargainers to me saying they used to come in every week and they would pretend they didn’t recognise them ( Maybe during the Great PlayStation shortage of 2020 )

Maybe just go to a different store .

If you do it more than a few times you might end up with a 24month x $69 contract you have to pay for , and some iPads .

      OR

they just ban your account for six months ,

Just don’t go to far from an Optus tower for a while…

    • +1

You can only apply once every 30 days. Tried to before within 30 days, my application was rejected. The staff saidbit was because I just cancelled a service and applied within 30 days

    • -1

go to Aldi and get a $5 sim - I'm also tempted to go get another one.

    • any luck getting the 2nd device?

      • +2

FYI - managed to sign up for a 2nd device. Doesn't seem to have any restrictions on the timeframe before you can apply again!

        • Thanks for sharing. Just want to check whether you have cancelled your 1st service before you sign the 2nd one?

          • @charleslx: Can he cancel the second service without drama is the question .

            • @beach bum: the second service is cancelled too!

          • @charleslx: yep cancelled the first before signing up!

        • Thank you kind person!

Did you manage to get a look at the critical info summary before signing up the second time? (Assuming they haven’t corrected the $500 etc)

And did the staff raise an eyebrow when you tried to sign up the second time? Could they see you’ve already signed up once recently and cancelled? Just curious about the experience I’m heading in for 😅

Also, if the iPad I want isn’t in stock (13” 1tb nano screen), I understand they order it in. Because I pay the difference on the spot for the device, cancelling the mobile broadband service won’t affect the device order will it?

          • +1

@WildWarrior: i'm not sure if they could see that i've signed up before!

The ipad i was after wasn't in stock as well, but it was ordered to be shipped directly to my home.

            • @el8: If the system is similar to Vodafone, they would be able to see your history.

    • I actually bought 2 at the same time.

    • +3

I managed to do this for five iPads all in the same transaction. I initially intended to get one under my name and one under my wife’s but the salesman said I could do up to five under my name alone, so that’s what I did. So I got five gen 9 64GB iPads for $409 each (he took $20 off the ticket price) with $1000 GC for each one. So ended up with five iPads and $2,955 in gift cards. Cancelled all the plans for $479.09 each (total cost $2395.45) and got the $69 refunded for each plan via online chat on JB app.

      • -2

Care to share which branch did you do this

  • Just got it. Now need to wait till tomorrow to call them and cancel it

    • So u get to use data for whole month if you cancel?

      • I dont care about that. Last time on such a deql i didnt even activate the service and mahaged to get the first month refundedb too

        • How did you get it refunded? they said they can't refund it, since it was in store/

          • @Fasian: last time I told chat that I havent even activated the service.

            • @U30004: really?

              • @Fasian: last time when I got the s23 on a similar deal

                • @U30004: did you pay first month instore?

                    • @U30004: dammmit - they told me that so I started buring the data. Haven't used 1GB yet.

Might call up and say poor reception or something

                      • @Fasian: My guy when I called up to cancel the broadband plan told me as I hadn't used it yet I would be refunded the $69 in 10-12 days to my credit card. I asked is there anything I had to do. He said no he's already terminated it on his end and I'll get a refund, plus the $479 exit fee.

                        • +1

@pixxelpusher: Thanks for that - just called up and got mine cancelled.

  • +3

ok so picked up a 10th gen 64gb wifi ipad. keyboard case and pencil plus a 64gb flash drive for $882 with left over $118 gift card.

Cancelled using jbhifi app with no dramas, $479 cancellation fee plus the $69 which may or may not get refunded.

Either way this saved me hundereds.

    Thanks OP

    • Which app mate for calcellarion?

      • JB's mobile app

        • Shouldnt i be cancelling via telstra chat?

          • +1

@U30004: JB’s mobile app is a white labelled version of Telstra app

    • You all are lucky, my JB refused to put remaining difference on card.

      • really? i was given a $1000 gift card after i signed up to go spend as i saw fit

        • Mine make a huge fuss even for $13 left and said either you can forfeit it or use.

Will never go again to my local JB hifi

          • @BinnyC: the manager at mine was about to do that, but the staff member pushed for me to keep the balance.

  • the jb hifi app is asking for the telstra account number of phone number. where do I find it? its not on the receipt

    • +1

You should be able to login using your Telstra Id

      • upon logging in, it keeps asking me to add my account. and then asks me for the account number or phone number

        • Check your email from JB Mobile. It will have your sim phone number included. Use that on the App.

  • +2

    Thanks OP. Managed to cancel.

Looks like party is over - showing $700 gift card now…. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/mobile-services

    • +1

It’s in store only, party for 2 more days

      • -2

Its also showing in-store, when i clicked on catalogue link that is showing $1k but that link open this $700 offer. Not sure if it was always that way…..

        • +1

Always that way, got mine this afternoon with 1k

        • +1

There's never been anything on the website about this deal at all. It's in-store only. They have to bring it up on their system when you ask for it. Most stores will have a poster up in the mobiles section of the store that shows the deal. I only saw the poster when I was leaving the store which is why I just went up to a counter and asked them about it.

          • @pixxelpusher: Thanks for confirming

            • +2

@nish10: No probs. It's also not technically a "mobile phone" plan but an iPad data plan, which makes it a bit confusing. They do have mobile plans like the $700 one advertised in store as well. But you do have to go to the mobile phone section of the store to sort it out (which for me was a completely different section to the iPad section).

  • I have a boost mobile (old Telstra account) assuming I don’t need to bring a sim to get them to port in, I can just let them give me a new sim and I cancel pretty much moment after I walk out the store with my iPad right?

    • +1

i had a boost account when i did this. made the registration quicker cause Telstra had your details. They will issue you a new sim new number, Boost will be untouched.

  • -2

Anyone went through this entire process, then refunded the ipad for a gift card?

    • you are actually given a gift card to buy the ipad

      • generally from the comments, the staff will force you to spend it on a ipad as per the terms unless you are lucky to just get the gift card by itself.

        • seems like its base on person to person basis. Depends on the sales guy

    • +1

No, was thinking I might try return and swap for a Mac though ;) (unopened)
