Was just about to post this ahaha, seems like a good deal

    This or the Lenovo Yoga Slim 6i i5-1240P, 16GB LPDDR5, 512GB SSD, 14" 2.2K IPS 300nits Dolby Vision $898 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Harvey Norman?
    TIA!

    • +6

This every day of the week

1335U is faster than the 1240P using half the power

Screen is higher res and 120Hz VRR

With the $150 difference, you could upgrade to a top tier 2TB SSD like this with change to spare

      • Thanks
This has dropped to $748 $749 at several places so plenty of stock.

    • Wondering the same. $150 cheaper (256gb ssd) vs 512gb ssd at a quick glance.
What are the other spec differences that matter?

      • I got this model, then bought a 512GB NVME SSD.
You'll need the know-how to open and replace the SSD, reinstall Windows, but for the $451 dollar difference ($1199 for the 512GB model vs $748 for the 256GB model), I'll do it. :D

Edit: I guess I'll need to factor in the $80ish dollars for the 512GB NVME so, $370 savings.

        • You forgot to factor in the cost of missing out on the 256gb drive, so it’s more like $400 savings.

        • +1

I've just purchased from HN at $748 for my kid. They had plenty of stock. Which 512GB NVME SSD did you put in?

        • Hey there, just wondering what the battery life is like with the laptop? Any gripes about this specific model? Cheers

    • +2

The slim feels nicer IMO, more premium feeling. It’s also got a bigger battery which should offset the efficiency difference between the chips, maybe even give it a slight edge. I’d say either is a good deal though, just depends on where your preferences lie. I trust lenovo’s cooling a lot more though, their laptops tend to keep clocking high even when being hammered by an impossibly heavy load like furmark + p95 at the same time.

      • Yeah went to look at both, Lenovo feels and looks better imo.

  • price match %5 with officeworks

    • No go some BS that the price is already the same in their system (not updated on website) as its out of stock in store and only buy online click and collect.

    • Actually put an order in with them yesterday for Price Beat.
Some BS about them being out of stock as Pimpiticians mentioned.

They said they have to move stock from VIC, which I didn't mind - but then when I called again this morning they said they're unlikely to be able to fulfill the order and will likely just cancel.

called again this morning they said they're unlikely to be able to fulfill the order and will likely just cancel.

wow what a di*k. you should get spiderman gothere to kick their a**

    is this touch screen?

  • Where did you copy the spec from? The web page seems quite different, e.g. 1.49kg instead of 1.38kg.

    • +2

He may refer to the good guys https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/hp-pavilion-plus-14-inches-ev…, but that is different model code 9P2N7PA as JB one is 90N28PA

    • Definitely felt heavier than I expected it to!

      • Did you put it on scale? Tempted by the price but hesitated for 1.49kg weight.

        • +1

I just brought it home today so i will!

          • @gdogdiggity: Hi mate, I'm just wondering how your battery life is like with this laptop? Any problems you've had with this specific model? Cheers

            • @CrispyChrispy: Only just turned it on today. All i can say is it wont let me never combine the taskbar so i fkn hate it.

  • anyone have any experience with the battery life on this model, i was looking at this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/815174 and the reviews show a decent battery life with the ability to quick charge.

Looking to purchase the laptop for my son going to high school next year

    • The processor is very fast and uses like half the power of other similar ones, I'd say because of that the battery life will be very solid.

      • 65Wh battery on the lenovo vs 51 on this so it might end up lasting the same as the lenovo. don't know why they don't just put a 65 on this too and it will be a really good laptop with insane battery life

        • This laptop comes with the 51Whr.
Popped the lid to see what was underneath, turns out they actually have space for the 65Whr battery (I'm thinking if I do require a larger battery down the track, I can probably order one and upgrade).

          • @spiderman: Hey, just wondering if you were able to find a suitable bigger battery for this laptop? I had a quick look on eBay but couldn't see one for this particular model. Cheers

$749 at Harvey Whoreman if you have problems/issues and want to pay more.

    • +1

      $888

Both JB and OW have it at $748 so in typical Gerry fashion, he stopped pretending to compete and jacked the price

      • -1

No surprise Harvey Whoreman relies on the ignorant.

  • +2

Just picked up one of these.
Great laptop for the price - was a steal at $899 yesterday, but then it dropped another $151 to $748.
RRP as of two weeks ago was $1399 according to JB HiFi's brochure.

    • Is it 120hz display? What is the weight? JB lists 1.49kg.

      • +1

It's dynamic, but apparently yes. Haven't had to try the 120Hz out.
        Weight is 1.39kg

        • what is your feedback based on a week' usage? general usage browsing, content, some office work, no gaming . i am going to pick up mine from JB tomorrow :)

          • @hit23head: My only complaint so far is that Disney+ is a little soft during playback - installed an extension on Chrome which fixed my issue.
Battery life is decent - not the 11 hours as advertised, but sufficient to last a day out if I wanted to do some work.

Thanks for this. I was looking for a laptop for the wife and I have some gift cards from referrals / frequent flyers

  • If I change the SSD to a NVME SSD, can the included Windows be reinstalled or will I need to buy a new copy of it?

      • Thank you

    • youll need to reintal windows via USB but activaton should reconise itself

      • Thank you

    • It already comes with a NVME SSD.
Regardless, Windows license keys are embedded in BIOS these days.

      • Oh right yes it does. I skimmed through the specs quickly at the time. I'll buy this for my wife and I'll look at upgrading the NVME SSD later. So that's good to know the Windows key is embedded in the BIOS. Thank you.

Please! Stop with all this unnecessary temptation! Haha

  • Grabbed one for the Mrs..
Guess I will be faffing around setting it up for her tonight..lol

  • I need to replace my current Asus rog gaming laptop. I bought it because i believe the specs will still be ok for the next 3 years or so (last longer as I bought it 5 years ago). Do you think this HP laptop will be ok for the next 3-5 year for office work/light gaming (i.e. stardew valley type of game)? Never own HP laptop before. Thank you

  • Worth waiting for cyber monday deals?

    • and someone will ask worth waiting for boxing day deals?
      and so on…

      • Cyber monday is in 3 days. Boxing day is in over a month. Not really comparable.

    • +1

Can you buy it but don't pick it up and wait to see if a better deal comes on Monday.
Then either go and collect it or get a refund.

Don't HP Laptops suffer from poor thermal design and throttling? Especially Pavilion models.

Does anyone have experience with this particular model? Is it built to last? Does it heat up a lot?

I remember buying a Pavilion model back in 2015, although it was on the cheaper side and had a plastic chassis. The CPU fried within 6 months and I barely used it.

    • +1

Don't HP Laptops suffer from poor thermal design and throttling?

      Yes.

Does it heat up a lot?

      Yes.

      Is it built to last?

Ehhh, they've gotten better but if there was another brand at similar spec and price point I'd go for that. Thing is I don't think there really is.

      • +1

        Ehhh, they've gotten better

Really? I've been told they've gotten worse since 8th gen Intel.

        • I mean for the 9th/10th/11th gen yes. There's still problems with overheating and throttling, but they aren't as bad as they were in those gens.

  • What do you guys think between this one or the Microsoft Surface 5 13.5"? The surface seems to have a better battery life. It'll be more for doing homework for my son next year.

    • I have surface laptop 4, the build is top notch and it is touch screen. But maybe double the price for the same configuration (compared to this one)? For less money than surface laptop 5, MacBook Air M1 or M2 maybe a better choice.

  • What's my best bet for gift cards at the moment? Shopback? All the Coles around me have been pillaged and dad only decided yesterday that he wanted a new laptop (didn't have any more gift card stock pile).

Looks like maybe I'm better off getting 6% off Harvey Norman cards at gift exchange..

    • If you don't mind me asking, what route did you go down in terms of gift cards to purchase the laptop (if you did)? Cheers

      • +1

Nothing yet, holding off to see if Cyber Monday brings anything

      • +1

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/816415
I have access to bupa where jb Hifi cards are 5% off, so not really worth the extra $10 for membership to access

  • Looks like Officeworks has dropped the price? https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/hp-pavilio…

  • Can we pay for this laptop online using ultimate gift card?

    • No. You have to swap for jb cards.

I bought this today, and keep using it until now. I think the fan curve is so bad. When the CPU goes over 60 degrees, the fan runs at a high speed in a few seconds which is loud, and then the fan speed will not go down until the CPU temp is under 60 for for several minutes. The fan noise sounds like a gaming laptop while doing windows update, the CPU peak power is only 15w at that moment. Don't know if HP would update a bios with quiet mode in the future.

    • Oh that sound bad! If you reckon this is an issue, are you able to return it?
I was going to get this for my high school boy but after reading your comment, i will look for something else.
      Any suggestion for under $1000?

      • No, they don't consider it as faulty. All the others are good, the fan curve is the only problem to me.
Now I'm using best efficiency mode which lowers the performance to make CPU not overpass 60 degrees frequently and it temporarily resolve the issue.

    • Looking at stress tests online it didn't seem to have this issue? Maybe it's a fault with yours?

      • It's not caused by stress test, it's the fan curve. If the cpu keeps under 60, I can bearly hear the fan. But if the cpu runs over 60 for a few seconds, the fan increases speed which is louder than I expect, and then keeps running at this speed until the cpu keeps staying below 60 without any surge for several minutes.
I think the respond time for cpu temp drop down is way too long, and also, I don't think the fan needs to run that fast at 60-70.
I rhink the easiest solution is hp provides a quiet mode for the fan, and actually there is an fan mode option is their hp app, but it only has one choice "balance".

  • Does anyone know when this sale ends?

  • This is tempting.

Is this much of an upgrade from Dell Latitude i5 1135G7?

Is there much of a difference between 13th gen U series vs P series?

  • I impulse bought this laptop in the end.
But also ended up winning an auction on Ebay for an HP ProBook 635 Aero G7 with:

    Ryzen 7 4700U
    8GB ram (upgradable)
    256GB SSD
    $304

Should I just cancel my click & collect order for the Pavilion? I know it has better specs and might be better value for the specs it offers, but it's still a Pavilion. Also wouldn't the 120Hz drain battery a lot quicker? And Intel E-Cores aren't yet optimized for Linux (which I want to install).
