Here we see example another idiot starting racism by noticing a person's race just cause they're doing something not to their standards.
People say they hate everyone, but they don't hate equally cause they racist!

      • +2

I agree that race should not be mentioned in such a story. It's irrelevant

  • does anyone know how to check the balance? colesmastercardbalance.com.au website doesnt work for my cards. got directed to my balancenow.com

    • Yes, via the site you were redirected to (why would they do this!?).

      • that website doesnt work for all of my card

        • It wasn't working in firefox for me so I used chrome.

          • @Bdawg: i think there is something wrong with the website, it works most of the time but not all the time.

  • +9

If anyone who works with these gift cards are even reading here. I think its time to put in a lock/unlock mechanism on these cards where it is locked by default upon activation and if someone wants to spend it online will have to unlock it first on the gift card website with the PIN provided and after a period of time it will revert back to the lock state again.

It is a hassle but at least its more secured.

    • +2

You would think they would come up with something quicksmart, they must have lost a lot of $$$.

    • -1

Or just simply put the card inside a nice cover cardboard like Woollies with their Prepaid Visa. Simple and professional

      • +4

The vulnerability here is not physical in nature. It’s online brute force attacks

      • +2

The cover is very secure. These new cards are being hacked remotely.

    • +2

100% agree. Needs user ability to deactivate via self nominated password until needed

    • it's just something simple like putting a scratchie on the card itself like the supermarket giftcards and use the code during 2fa.

The current issue besides theft is that without 2fa most online stores don't accept it

      • +2

don't need that because the CVV on the card is secured enough to prevent this brute force attack. Problem is these hackers will simply spend it on websites that don't require CVV. Google play I believe is their top destination.

        • +1

not sure if that's correct since CVV is just 3 digits, imagine having a three digit numerical password for an online account! These cards all have the same starting card number and exact same expiry date, making brute force a viable option since there are so limited combinations

          • +1

@sunnysteve: That extra 3 digits makes it exponentially harder to crack though because they have to guess the credit card number plus the extra 3 digits all in one go. It's not guessing the credit card THEN guessing 3 digits separately…

Does anyone have experience paying rego with these? The online platform doesn't take split payments and not sure if Australia Post would.

    Thanks in advance.

    • f

    • I needed to go into the licensing centre and pay. I found Australia Post doesn’t want to let you split or use any prepaid cards.

      • +1

auspost don't accept mc debit cards? I reckon it's more a human thing. My LPO lets me split anything into how ever many payments I want.

        • They say it is determined by the merchant. When I tried, they seemed to genuinely want to do it, but the system would not allow it with the bill I had.

  • +1

Just got off the phone with B-point, tried to make payment for my water bill in WA and they confirmed that a prepaid master card is not accepted. Disappointed, considering Bppoint is widely used to pay utility bills.

    • Can you pay direct on the water company website?

    • Did you try on the phone only or even online it doesn’t work?

      • tried online, didn't work, tried on phone, didn't work either.

    • @mkh1991, sorry just saw you say that you've tried.

I managed to pay my Sydney Water bill using BPoint.

  • Anyone tried buying a Coles Myer gift card at Coles using these Coles MasterCard GC?

    • It works unless staff stops. Coles e-gift works as well.

      • Thank you!

      • +1

Just tried to purchase Coles E-Gift at giftcards.com.au but didn’t work :(

        • I am pretty sure that you can use it to buy Coles Group & Myer @ Kmart, Coles Express, etc.

          • @Neoika: Max is $500 isnt it? So do you do this and ask the operator to split the payment?
Or perhaps a series of 5 x $232 Coles cards?

      • In the self checkout cash register
When we going to pay by coles E-gift card, do you chose the payment method of pay by CARD or giftcard? Then how can you swipe the E-gift-card to pay for it?

        • Its a gift card, doesn’t matter physical one or electronic. Choose gift card. You need to scan e-gift like flybuys.

          • @R n b: When we choose GIFT CARD for payment, will the screen pop up say giftcard can NOT be paid by giftcard?

  • +1

do not forget the hsbc 2% cash back , split payment under $100

    • Did that today! My Coles only had $100s - sob

    • I tried. The machine did not allow me to split. Must be paid fully.

      • Yea only service desk let you do partial payments, but not self service

    • +2

if you are having $1250 worth, that's alot of splitting and be so annoying, plus just pay amex and get points, works out not that much different.

  • +1

does auspost bill pay app accept several coles master card to pay a large bill?

    • They refused last time.

  • +1

Can use this at Myer and Bunnings?

    • Yes & anywhere that accepts a master card

  • So Coles Kingston Tasmania only had the $100s today at the service desk. I asked and they said they ordered the $250s but they hadn't arrived. I asked the lady if I could pay for each one separately so I'd get another 2% cashback with my HSBC debit card. The 3rd one wouldn't activate and they replaced it for me. I thought I still had to wait the 4 hours activation period though, so I haven't done anything with them yet.

    So disappointed I couldn't get the $250s :-((

This is the only Coles near me and it's 30 mins away.

    • +1

Nice 2% extra using HSBC debit, nice move

      • +1

        Thanks!

    • +1

They only had 3 X $250. I got them. Sorry!

      • That's okay. At least another OzBargainer got them!

        • Yay! Kinda sucks there were literally only 3. I drove to Sandy Bay and they had no $250s but 15 X $100s. I left them all for others.

I reckon they will restock. I've noticed lots of stock holes in the store.

  • +1

The Woolies mobile site doesn't have any gift cards offers! It used to be 4% off I thought.

    found it! https://giftcards.woolworths.com.au/woolworths-group-and-par…

    $104.16 =$100 exactly

    • +1

      i dont see 4% off /bonus

      • Click the link in my post but I was logged in first to Woolies mobile, so when I found that link on OzB looking for Woolies mobile giftcards, it took me to the right page on Woolies mobile. I've just bought 5 Woolies cards at 4% off.

Ladies at SA store would only give a max of 3… Pointed out the promo says 5, she says yep, and im saying 3, haha.

Thought about it, and said good on you. At least more people have a chance on getting one.

    • +1

Lol, they make their own rules up as they go.

    • Can you PM me what store? I couldn't find any in the East.

    • A lot of karens ladies at SA too,

not just nice young lenient open minded ones

  • Can anyone please tell me how can I use these cards to pay water bill etc in split payments in QLD? Thank you!

    • I’m in NSW. I haven’t done it yet but trialed. Looks like you can enter the amount you want to pay

  • It might have answered somewhere. Can I use this to pay HECS?

    • +1

Yes people have been doing it.

      • +1

yes anything to do with paying ATO you can. Also if you are paranoid, just use it to pre pay your utility bills or private insurance or telco. Just sits there as a credit in your account.

        • What about iTunes gift cards?

    • +1

Yes I paid off my HECS and my tax debt last time. There is a small fee of about 0.2% or 0.4% depending on card type.

  • +1

they had posters & signs all over the shop for this promo,

a tonne of $250s as well

  • does the balance check also take a while until it's activated?

  • +3

Went to my local store. Nothing on shelf. Saw a glimpse of golden tucked away near a counter.

Sorry not sorry to staff or customer who tried to hide it

    • +1

If you have read through the comments here, you have to go through the service desk to buy the $250 one at some stores now.

  • +1

So the question is could I pay off next 6 month worth of bills with the 7% discount, would it be worthwhile than keeping that money in the offset account for 6 month, be about $8000 of bills I reckon, rates and license or renewing in Jan.

    • Money now is worth more than later?

    • +1

you can probaly work out which one save you more money. $8k in the offset account would save you how much in 6m?

    • Your variable loan is max 5%, so 2.5% return in offset , over 6 months vs 7%

  • +3

5 left at my local store
No-one wanted to check if there was anymore, staff acted all weird when I was buying them too

No idea why they take it so seriously, I started getting questioned and simply said I'm paying a power bill, paid and walked off

  • +1

Bought 5 cards in one transaction. First 4 cards activation approved, and last one declined. wtf? The Monitor had a message to speak to staff for a refund. The staff went and asked the manager and told me they can't refund it, I'll need to call the card vendor for a replacement.

Does that sound right? The retailer (coles) sold a product that's invalid/faulty, aren't they supposed to give you a replace or refund? Why does the customer get the run-around because YOUR system failed to activate?

Anyways, found a number and called them and after 10min they told me had some technical issue and call back in 15min.

I'm just worried after I give them the details, they will tell me to go back and speak to Coles for a refund. Anyone know the correct procedure or had any experience with failed activation after payment?

    • It is possible that the card may be hacked when unactivated. The old stock expiry date is 3/27. I think it is safer to buy new stock with expiry date 6/27.

Don't take it as an answer. Just my thinking.

      • I only got the 3/27 one :(

    • +6

This happened to me last time. If the receipt shows that the activation declined for that card then the store should be the one refunding you. Even if you call Coles customer care, that's what they'll tell you. If the receipt doesn't show anything about that card, you'll need to call Coles customer care and go through the gift card refund process, which takes a while unfortunately.

      • @dkinc, thanks for the info. Yes my receipt has the numbers on the back of the gift card pack.
When it happened to you before, did Coles just give you a refund in-store? Or did you have to call their customer care?
        Thanks

        • +5

          What happened to me was:
The receipt showed that the activation failed but the store told me to call the customer care line. I called customer care, and they told me that the store should refund me. So I went back and told them that, and the staff member called their manager and they sorted it out. The key thing is that the receipt shows that that specific card didn't activate.

          • @dkinc: Good advice. Maybe ask when the store manager is on site if the current one is unhelpful.

          • @dkinc: this happened to me too

        • You should insist on getting a refund instore. Quote ACL if they refuse, make a fuss if necessary, it is still much easier than trying to call the hotline later on.

      • Ok just finished calling the vendor. They took some details, filed a claim and asked me to email a copy of the receipt, the gift card and my ID/Utility bill (for the address). After they assess the claim, they will either send me a new card or activate the one I already have.

        • +1

Messy but at least you don't lose that card.

    • +2

I had a similar issue last time around. It's best to go back to the store and ask them to refund.
