Qantas Premier Titanium Card: Bonus 150,000 QFF, $400 Travel Voucher ($5,000 Spend in 3 Months), Annual Fee $1200 @ Qantas Money

200

This is a very high annual fee card BUT you can reduce it to effectively $199. So a number of people have tried with varying success to get a prorata refund, some get lucky and get a full refund whereas others such as myself got told that because you've claimed the bonus points and lounge passes, they can't at their discretion refund you the annual fee.

However they will prorata refund you if you change products. So I called up, asked them to change products down to their Everyday card which has an annual fee of $99. I did this on the Platinum card, confirmed a few times I would get a refund of the old card fee which they said yes and it would be applied to the account after the new card is activated. So for the Titanium card you would need to hold it for a least a month for the bonus points to show up which would be $100 for the month. Just be aware that I don't know how ironclad their prorata refund terms are or if this gets OzBargained so be prepared to risk a full $1200 AF.

Now I'm yet to get the refund but another user did suggest to ask for a refund on the $99 once I get the new card because there wouldn't be any bonus points claimed…

If you haven't earnt any QFF points in the past 12 months, you can stack with this deal and you would get 170,000 QFF for $199 plus a $400 travel voucher!

  • Up to 2 PTS per $1 spent

OzBargained so be prepared to risk a full $1200 AF.

    Risky… yummy

  • +8

You also need to have a wage of 200k to even be eligible..

    • +20

isnt that all of us here

    • Ah yeah that's a bit of a downer :(

      • +1

theres nothing to be down about earning over 200k

        • -1

There is if you live in Sydney and have a $1m mortgage!

          • @Omarko: If you have just a $1M mortgage, you don't live in Sydney.

  • Eligibility criteria:

Be at least 18 years old
Earn at least $200,000 per year
    Be a permanent Australian resident
Have an Australian mobile and residential address
Be a Qantas Frequent Flyer member
    Be a new primary cardholder

Have an Australian mobile and residential address

      Must live in a caravan?

    • +16

Damn not over 18 but meet everything else

    • Does the annual income include super? I am 1-2k off, but due to some salary packaging benefits, my net pay is equivalent to somebody earning $205k

  • +5

    This sounds like a mess.

  • With the income requirement and risk you may have to pay full AF of $1,200 for 150k qff pts, not sure it's worth it

  • -7

This deal is so dodgy its bordering on fraud.

  • bonus points after 6-8 weeks, so that means if you apply and spend 5k on say one you might still not have got your points until you have paid 2 months worth of annual fee

  • Has anyone under $200k every tried and gotten through?

    • +1

      Yes instant rejection!

  • +1

1200 seems pretty crazy for the benefits you get for this card.

    • hence why you cancel it and get most of the $1200 back

      • +2

I'd imagine that's what most people do.

I think the problem with this card is that it almost has the price of an Amex platinum charge with only a fraction of the benefits that the charge card does have.

If they included annual Qantas club or if you were gold/platinum, a complimentary upgrade to platinum/ platinum one then I think might be a better deal.

  • +5

what a crap card. Doesn't even give 12 months of Qclub.

    • +1

better off with the Amex Platinum charge card if you pay off every month.

  • +2

I've seen this card around and always wondered who it's for.

    It's terrible value.

    • Not really.

0.8 c per point is a better online rate than the typical online buy/sell spread of 1c per point.

Then the voucher, discounts and other benefits are added value on top.

    • always wondered who it's for

It's one of the few metal cards in Australia so there's always gonna be audience that only gets it to flex.

  • OP so can you even use the travel credit, downgrade and still only pay $99?

  • +1

Too risky. They can always change their terms and not pro rata the fees

  • +2

For cards with around 1200-1500 annual fees, the competition is tough. I have the Amex platinum charge card which is $1450 which provides much more value that this.

I have looked at this card a few times and also at the Citi one, but couldn't come closer to what amex has to offer.

This is considering I don't fly Qantas much, domestic or international.

Also cards in this range aren't really churning cards, these are your primary cards which you keep to get most benefit out of like top transfer insurance and other covers.

    • Yeah the amex also give you options to which programme to transfer to including QF, CX and SQ. The QF programme is way oversubscribed, so its hard to get premium seats.

      • There's more, freedom to use the $450, dinning credit, Amazon prime subscription, much more. So you do get a lot of value out of that.

    • Those of you rocking an Amex card daily, how often do you get rejected by shops who don’t take amex?

      • I don't shop at Aldi so under 10% tbh

    $200k annual income is crazy

Being a high income earner is not a great and glamarous life - nothing to be jealous of.

It's not like being a trust fund baby where you don't have to do any work. It's incredibly hard work to be earning that kind of money in a relatively competitive and sluggish (by international standards) labour market in Australia.

FWIW, I used to earn well above $200k - I was also regularly working 12+ hours per day, rarely had any time with my family, most mornings I would wake up to a bunch of urgent things I needed to do / address, picking up work on weekends, always basically being "on call" and knowing that I might be asked to pick up pretty difficult pieces of work at any time. Family time involved me sitting in the living room on my laptop whilst simultaneously watching TV with my wife and kid. It's not a great life.

Wasn't until my kid told me that he wanted to spend more time with me, and for me to come to his school events that I realised it's all just a scam. I quit my job. I moved out into an outer suburb ~40km+ from the city, where a house was more affordable, with more land and greenery. Picked up a job which was < 15 mins from where I live. The job is flexible - I'm usually in at around 9.30am, and out by around 4pm, WFH 2-3 days a week, and pick up my kid from school every day and come home and spend time with him playing video games and doing Lego.

I'm paid half as much as I used to be, but I am happy, and I have never regretted making that decision, not even once.

      • Never said I was jealous

        • +3

I wasn't trying to imply that you were, just more so a reflection for those who may be :)

          • +1

@p1 ama: In that case, thanks for the perspective.

      • Wow that is a good perspective but that isn’t the case for every job at that tier, but certainly a lot of them are a grind I can imagine.

I am certain you won’t look back when you’re old and miss the extra money compared to the wonderful memories and time you’ve spent with your family. That is all that matters, everything else is bulls#it.

Needs a bigger sign up bonus really to justify the fee. I had the card when it first came out and I’m sure i got a lot more points…. (Cancelled after year 1 obviously)

    • better than most cards if you change cards and only pay about 200-300 for the annual fee

  • +1

Unbelievable that a travel focused card from an airline doesn't have 0 foreign transaction fees
