Great timing was just about to apply for another QFF card. Thought I would be ineligible for this offer due to having a card in the past but it pays to read the fine print.
Which card will you apply for ?
ANZ ffp due to lower spend requirement. I will cancel it within two months and get a higher spend requirement card around November as I have large expenses coming up over the Christmas period.
in November can you apply ANZ again to get bonus?
Just FYI, this isn't stackable with other deals like on Qantas Premier Card which is giving 30k extra.
- Do not factor in bonus points available for first-time Qantas Points earning credit cardholders (excludes the Qantas Money Premier Platinum credit card where these bonus points are always available).
Just FYI
If these pricks stopped devaluing the points we could get points flights easier than never
I have a card, but registered anyway in case your processes are flawed.
i think i will also follow your lead.
Just have anz qff card accepted that haven’t arrived yet. Can i get these points? What’s the process? This is my qantas credit card.
In the same promo last year, I applied and got approved for my Bankwest Platinum CC a few weeks before registering for this promo (it was my first Qantas points card) and there was not a lot of transparency into the promo, but eventually the points just turned up one day. YMMV!
I had asked these similar questions last year, and Gyr's comments are accurate.
Unless the T&Cs has changed since then.
Thanks, so should i activate the offer first, or i should activate the card first?
It doesn't matter as long as you haven't had any QFF points deposited into your QFF account from the credit card.
But activate the offer first (make sure you make an eligible purchase with the card within 30 days of approval).
@Kirby102: Thanks
Nice, anyone recommend a specific qantas card deal?
Yes I'd like to know too.
Currently, I can't find any good deals. Hopefully, there will be a similar deal like this
The NAB Qantas Rewards Premium Card is offering 60,000 points with a $2,000 spend in 60 days and a lower minimum credit limit of $6,000. Annual fee for first 12 months is $150. Probably the best deal going at the moment in terms of spend and a low minimum credit limit.
but fee kills it? anyway to avoid the fee?
Not really. The only thing the banks are getting out of most customers on these cards is the annual fee. $150 is pretty good considering the low spend, credit limit and reasonable amount of points. Westpac Altitude Qantas Platinum is offering a similar deal with 60,000 but the spend is $4,000 in 90 days. Their annual fee is currently $99 for the first year but you have to pay a $75 Qantas Rewards Program fee on their altitude cards which brings it to $174. If you are already a Westpac customer the annual fee for the first year is $49 but the other $75 fee will still apply. If you can find a way to get that waived (which might be possible) then this is probably a better deal if you can spend $4,000 in 90 days.
@ToothPickUser: thanks. what is the best way to convert qff .s to cash or similar?
@UrMumsOnlyFan: is there a way to get a refund on the nab cc fee?
It says must keep card open for over 12 months, meaning you have to pay the $250 card fee in the 2nd year too?
That is only for the additional 10,000 points.
I am wondering the same question too. Do we need to hold the card for entire 12 months so we could get full 20k after paying the 13th annual fee?
@wakamana: wanting to know this as well. ty
is it the deal posted here by Koipanda on 30/01/2024. why only 10 + votes?
The ANZ platinum one is not bad: https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/frequent-flyer-…
Is this the best deal available now?
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/850198?page=1#comment
$225 for 90k
Unfortunately, yes.
And Qantas is not even able to cater for existing points floating aound already.
I hear this a lot, but if you plan your trips well in advance it isn't too hard to use em even for harder to get seats like business. We are booked for Melb->Tokyo->Dallas->Miami return business in Feb 2025 all using points.
Economy is not worth the effort given the tax is 30-50% of a ticket (dont forget, points cost money). Business is the only worthwhile option. There's bound to be a few that will score it. TBH, even domestics are harder to come by these days.
Since they have announced the change in scheme to inflate points for business class flights, I have stopped accumulating QFF points.
The process of accumulating points take effort, as well finding the flights. And now that flights are much harder to come by, questionable whether the effort is worthwhile.
It is difficult to get Qantas classic reward flights, but it can be useful for their partner airlines.
China airline opens up a lot of seats at random time throughout the year. A lot of business class redemption seats to europe was available early this year for October dates, with a reasonable stopover time in Taipei.
We redeemed local japan flights (JAL) earlier this year for 10K qantas pts + $0 tax, for a local flight was going to cost us $250. Sure not the best $/pt, but at 2.5c/pt for last min flight, I can't really complain.
Some routes are also easier to redeem and give decent value even on economy (E.g Jakarta). Can be useful for repositioning purposes to get better redemption options to US/Europe with other airlines
For those that know about these things, if my partner is a second card holder on my Qantas point earning NAB card but has no other credit cards, would she still be eligible based on the "first time Qantas card holder" restriction?
So long as your partner didn't get any of the Qantas points:
Members must not have earned Qantas Points on a Qantas Points earning credit card into their Qantas Frequent Flyer or Qantas Business Rewards account within the past 12 months from offer registration to be eligible. Woolworths Qantas Platinum credit card or Frequent Flyer Diners Club cardholders who have earned a Qantas Point on their relevant card in the last 12 months are eligible for this offer. Offer excludes American Express Qantas Corporate Cards. The Qantas Money Premier Platinum credit card has a different minimum spend requirement to be eligible, please refer to the specific terms and conditions for this offer.
I applied and got nab reward cc last months(first qantas cc), I still have to spend still spend 2 grand get a qantas ppt, am I still eligible this promo?
Have you had any qantas points posted to your QFF account? Any points, not only the bonus from the 2K min spend.
From previous comments, if there has not been any activities, you might still be lucky and the system let you get the bonus points.
Did anyone get the bonus points using a Bankwest Transaction account instead of credit card last time?
I'm wondering if having earnt points from that card in January will make me ineligible for this. T&Cs suggest I'm fine, because it isn't a credit or charge card
Any valid/realistic credit card options for someone looking to grab their first credit card?
The ANZ deal listed above is easily the best at the moment.
I think the days of churning are over though, most of the deals have been barely worth it for the last 2 or 3 years.
Anyone know if you need SURNAME and FIRST NAME to match to get CC points?
eg. Your child/MIL etc. opens up a QFF account and as long as you have a matching last name would you still receive the points + bonus to then family transfer to yourself? Or do both names need to match
I believe it has to match, but I have never tried it myself with a different first name.
Out of curiosity, why would you want to set it up this way? For them to qualify for points club?
To get the additional 20k points (I have had multiple point earning cards in last 12 months), velocity has the deal for additional 30k points. You could get 2 qualifying cards and use 2 different frequent flyer numbers to get the bonus twice
Not really. For illustrative purposes my real name is John Frank Smith. That's the name on my Qantas and or velocity. When I apply for a cc I never use this name, just John Smith. Ive never had any points issue. I've redeemed over 2 mil and currently sitting at 1.1mil over last 8 years.
The Qantas Premier Platinum already says earn 30K if you haven't owned a Q CC for 12 months as well. Does this 20K also stack?
Looking for an answer as well, considering AMEX but if no one can inform that the bonus stack, then I'll just go with ANZ.
Can you please share which AMEX offer you're considering?
Qantas Premier Platinum. They have 30k extra points for those who haven't earned points
T&C
The two offers cannot be combined and cardholders are limited to one offer per Qantas Frequent Flyer or Qantas Business Rewards account only. You will receive the higher first-time cardholders bonus offer if you apply and are approved for a Qantas Money Premier Platinum credit card, even if you have registered for the 20,000 extra Qantas Points offer.
Thanks for looking it up! ANZ it is then
5K spend tho 😒
@rogsamsy: Just buy a gift card for something you will need eventually
this OR Bonus 30,000 Velocity Points with a New Credit Card from Partners?
What’s this ‘or’ you speak of
Registered for this deal earlier this month. Received my qantas points from St George card but not the bonus 20k. Does anyone know how long that takes?
I've been contemplating changing the rewards program on my Westpac CC.
Can someone confirm if I'm eligible for the 20k points if I change from Altitude to QFF? Will keep the existing card.
Thanks
I doubt it. You didn't apply for a cc on the website so they wouldn't consider you as a new applicant.
Hi all, new to credit cards etc…
What would constitute an eligible purchase? Is paying a bill enough or actually purchasing from a store etc is there a minimum spend to receive the 20,000 points?
You have to make a purchase that earns points. Doubt there's a minimum - just has to register as points earned on Qantas's website.
Checking people's interpretation of these being ok:
I've registered my wife, she has never had a QFF card (has been secondary on my card)
Registered with Qantas in July, but doesn't have to get the card in July? Just has sign up and to make the eligible purchase by 31 October?
You have to earn the points into your account by 31 October.
Usually points done go in until after statement date. You’d need to make a purchase in September.
Are there any good offers so far? Best to decide now because the offer ends on 31 Jul and you need to apply and be approved.
So far I can see low rate good offers are. What do you guys think?
NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card: 90k pts + $200 back, $3k spend, 60 days, $295.
ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card: 90k pts, $5 spend, 90 days, $425
ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum credit card: 75k pts + $100 back, $2.5k spend, 90 days, $295.
Don't forget $200 back on the ANZ FF Black
Not true, just need to sign up by 31st. Application of card and spend can be after.
I haven’t received a confirmation email and it’s been more than 5 business days.
I assume you need this email before proceeding? Did anyone wait longer than 5 days to get the confirmation email?
I registered never got an email either :(
Confirming that the email never turned up and I registered twice.
Deal has expired now :(
You gonna apply anyway ? I might.
@starburstyellow: Yes I think I will.
@Lima3: fyi I applied for the NAB 60K QF. Just got approved today. Will let you know if I get the extra 20K.
@starburstyellow: Thank you!
@Lima3: Hi there. Fyi the 20k just hit my account after $1000 spend on the NAB card after statement run.
Happy it worked :)
@starburstyellow: Oh that’s great news!! Thanks for getting back and letting me know. I’ve just applied and been accepted for ANZ FF Black so hopefully I’ll get the points too 🤞
Downgraded amex platinum edge to qantas discovery in early July and received the points today.
Aww yiss, good timing! Just got approved for a new QFF credit card last week. Been more than 12 mths since I closed my last QFF card. Thank you for the share!
