Transfer at least 2000 Membership Rewards Points to Velocity and get 20% bonus Velocity points (Membership Rewards Premium Ascent Enrolled Card Members) or 15% (Membership Rewards Ascent, Gateway and New Corporate Ascent enrolled Card Members). Offer ends 28/2/2025.

    • +2

Yes - this is what my Platinum Edge card says - My understanding is that Platinum Edge is only Ascent and not Premium Ascent and therefore only gets the 15%?

      • Correct only Platinum card is Premium Ascent.

  • says 15% for me

  • +2

20% for Platinum card holders, other are 15%

    • Not for The AMEX Explorer?

      • +4

        How unclear was my comment?

        • 15% (Membership Rewards Ascent, Gateway and New Corporate Ascent enrolled Card Members).

          The Explorer is not mentioned

          • @EarlyBird: Did you check your account?

            • @abs898: Yes, the Ts&Cs on my account transfer page

To receive 15% bonus Velocity Points, the Primary American Express Australia Card Member must:
              i. be enrolled in the American Express Membership Rewards Ascent, Gateway or Business Ascent Membership Rewards Program;

    • I have the Platinum Edge and I only got 15% offer

      • +1

Falls under "other" literally wrote that

  • Is this good, or does AMEX offer higher occassionaly?

  • On a side note, anyone who has the Amex Platinum Edge and Essential having trouble pooling points due to one being on the Gateway program? Interestingly, a friend of mine is able to pool between their Platinum and Platinum Edge so I assumed this would apply across the board?

  • -7

if you have owned or canceled an Amex within the last 18 months you don't get the points just fyi

so make sure its been 18 months or more since you last amex.

    • You need an existing amex card to be able to transfer.

    • +2

You're getting this confused with getting a new card bonus.

  • Is it feasible to apply for an AmEx Plat today and hit the spending target to trigger 275K MR and transfer at a bonus rate?

    • i got the card and received the points in 8 days (i took 3 days to hit required spend). Depends how fast u get your card i suppose

    • -2

You will not get 275k before 28 February. So upto you

    • Yup its possible if you spend the limit the moment you get it.

Bonus credits overnight when payment is finalised (not pending)

    • Yes can be done if application process is smooth

      • Thanks all!

  • I've got a plat card and have roughly 600,000 points - been holding off on transferring to a frequent flyer until such an offer came through.

Anyone have any recommendations on which airline to transfer to? I've been thinking velocity/qantas as they would be the easiest to:

    (1) get additional points in other ways (via different CC - churn etc);
    (2) best known/common reward programs in Aus

But I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations? For example, Krisflyer Reward Program I've heard is good - but my main worry is how limited seating would be (specifically business class) with reward points. In terms of destinations, I'm not phased, but it would be cool do a long haul via business class, so for example aus-europe.

    • It depends on your departing city n route..if you take Singapore Airlines you have to transit in Singapore is that something you dun mind doing…you can howver even have a holiday in Singapore at no added miles so to speak but using Advantage Saver ( just need to use PC to redeem n add free stopiver) n you will find more seats availability than conpared to redeeming via Velocity for same flight but cant do a stopover). I feel with Velocity n Qantas you have more partner airline options n maybe non stop flights. I think you need more points to convert to Krisflyer so check the conversion rate too as that might also determine which FFP you want to convert to. Hope this will help

      • Thanks for this, I prefer to do a stopover (for example I did 2 days in Singapore when I travelled to Europe a few years ago) - as I like the break, but it's not a fast and hard rule, because how much leave I can take - dictates this (for example, I wouldn't necessarily do 2 weeks in Europe, but if i had to - I'd rather get their sooner than later).

In saying the above, I definitely don't mind no stopover if that means I'm in business class the entire way (flat beds would be so good for this).

So essentially, in your opinion Velocity and Qantas have more partner airlines, which means more availability for business - but it's nonstop, as opposed with other partner airlines, less availability (at potentially a higher cost) however, you're able to do a 1-2 day stop over 'holiday'

        • +1

KrisFlyer I would only transfer if you have a specific redemption in mind as there is a hard 3 year expiry on the points.

        • I am newbie in flight redemption and not that fsmiliar with QFF but suggest that you play around with flight route redemption and know many miles and taxes are needed. Or if you have a preference for certain airlines. For eg last year i redeemed a 1-way business class tix on Singapore Airlimes website directly fr London to Australia and included a 2 weeks stopover in Singapore (believe the maximum number of days allowed is 30). It cost me 133,500 points and £323… so if you convert your Amex to Krisflyer you may not have enough points for return tix…but you might have more than enough if you redeem tix on VFF but may be on other airlines and may not be able to include a stopover…so it depends on many factors, including poimts expiry. Good luck

    • +3

If you decide to transfer to Krisflyer, better to do it via Velocity

Your 600k points will get 200k KF points if transferred direct
Your 600k points will get 360k Velocity with the bonus. Then transfer to KF at 1.55:1, you'll get 232k KF points

      • Thanks for this - yeah i noticed this possibility via the pointhacks link above

        • add to this that VFF dont expire and its a no brainer to bank it there and transfer when needed

      • Yes definitely agree!

        • 3 AmexMR points to 2 Marriott points - not the other way around. So using ur quoted 3:1 Marriott/KF conversion, it’s clear that you’ll need more than 3 AmexMR points just to get 1 KF.

    • If you're looking at Europe I'd suggest you do some calculations with Cathay/Asia Miles. The 1:2 transfer rate with Amex is generous, even without any bonuses, and the number of Asia Miles you'll need to get to say Europe is less than what you'll need on Singapore.

      • How’s availability with Cathay via AM? Especially multiple tickets? Looking at business but could live with economy.

    • Qatar is the best choice for AmEx rewards. Only 180,000 MR for 90,000 Avios which will get you a QSuite from Melbourne to London. Qantas and Velocity Amex conversions don't even come close to this.

      • Is the availability decent though? It sounds super intriguing, but I guess availability is the other issue

        • You have to book a year out to get the flights you want with 90K saver awards, or be super flexible as availability appears from time-to-time. But availability to Europe with Qantas and Velocity is not any easier

          • @DSOTM: Yeah, fair call, so am I right to say the general guidance would look something like this?

            1) Prepare a year out, so for this example I'm looking at 1 August 2026 - 26 August 2026, Mel - London return
            2) Start looking for availability around end of July 2025 (i.e. a year out), and if I manage to find a Melb - London ,1 August 2026 business class saver ticket, book it.
            3) Keep a look out as it gets closer to end of August 2025, in order to try to find my preferred date of 26 August 2026 London-Melb return ticket. Again, as per step 2 - if I do manage to find it, book it asap.

And I assume, the above applies to basically any saver reward type ticket (i.e. Qantas/velocity - business to Europe tickets).

If the above is indeed correct, the other question I have is: Is it ever possible to book a return ticket during peak season for say, Europe? I assume it would be close to impossible, noting that in order to book a return with say the dates above (1 August 2026 - 26 August 2026), you'd need to wait until end of August, and by then, the 1 August seats are long gone.

Waiting for 1:1 Bonvoy Transfer. Been more than a year….

    • Waiting for the transfer 1 million points and get platinum status… Happened once pre covid.

      • There was 1:1.3 in 8/22 and 1:1.5 in 8/23 has not been one since unfortunately.

    Hi,

I'm just wondering if I'm missing anything here, did some tests which are like pretty much comparable.

I've got like 54,000 points on amex that can give me a $270 coles gift card.
If I transfer these points to velocity, with the bonus (15% for me) it converts to 31050 velocity points. The velocity store gift card for coles $200 gift card is 43373. I cant even afford that.

Is my calculation valid that transferring to velocity is not a good idea, why do people transfer for?

    • +8

If your first instinct is to look at gift cards then the points game probably isn't for you

      • Then what should I look at for the points game?

        • pointhacks and loyaltylobby sites will point you in the right direction…gift cards and toasters are a waste of points.
Or just google velocity sweet spots….or how to best spend velocity points

        • Business or first class flight. Purely from cost effectiveness perspective, redeeming points for anything else is a bad decision.

          • @areustillpretty: not even normal economy?

            • +2

@jes: Economy is still a much better use than gift cards or toasters but not nearly as good as business class.

  • +1

Does anyone know if Amex Velocity Platinum card is eligible for this? Do you earn MR points which you can transfer to get the bonus points or do you earn velocity points instead?

  • I transferred a fair amount of AMEX points and only got the 2:1 Velocity conversion… is the bonus supposed to be added at the time of transfer or is there a delay? I want to close my AMEX but want to first ensure I receive all bonus points, etc. from the transfer before I do so.

    • +2

      my bonus points credited instantly

    • +1

Bonus should have come at the same time as the 'base' points (as a separate transaction). In my case, the transfer was instant but I only did a few Ks.

      • Thank for your replies guys, spoken to AMEX and they said it can take up to 6 weeks - which is BS… then called Velocity and they said up to 24 hrs… I still think I'll be calling them again tomorrow to find out wtf my points are :/

    • Did you transfer as soon as the bonus offer went live or little later in the day? Just wondering if its due to US time zone issues.

  • +1

"in one transaction" meaning we have only ONE chance?

    • +1

I believe you can do multiple transfers as long as they are within the offer period.
