  • I just went to Perth City Coles the staff told me that someone went to the store and hide all the $250 cards.

    • When they go to purchase them should not allow them to buy them and say these have been cancelled

    • From previous experience, the Perth City store in Raine Square is not part of the the promo as it's a "Coles Central" store and seem to have major hassles with customers that buy them and find out there's no discount. If that's still the case I think they're doing the customer a service, tbh

      • there are 10% discount this time. I checked the catalogue, it shows the 10% discount for the gift card

        • I see. If they are promoting it at the store in a catalogue, then I agree they should honour it

  • +2

All sold out at my local on SA, I'm not gonna bother driving around.

It looks like they were listed on the shelf, I asked a lady and said all gone.

I earn more per hour than it would take me to visit 2 Coles.

7% saving, it's easier for me to go to work for an hour than buy freakin 5 of these cards.

    • +7

Do it in work hours earn double

      • +3

during overtime = double and a half!

      • I'd need to buy 5 to earn what I do hourly.

I went to 2 Coles and literally nothing, and Coles here is in one of Adelaide's wealthiest area.

I assume some POV person has driven around at 6am and taken them all.

I looked at the counters, considering they got ads for this everywhere they literally have no stock it's BS.

Why market something so much, unless you have hundreds available!

        • +1

          paid $150/hr, good on you
          .

          • @Nugs: I don't earn that, I based it on 4 cards profit.

            I wish 🤣

    • What's your job earning ~$90p/h?
      Genuinely interested.

      • +1

        $18 x 4 = $72

I get that OT, I work in manufacturing operations.

The low levels workers get $65 an hour OT, even packers.

      • +1

I make a bit more than that, I work in tech.

Still got a stack of gift cards on my desk from this, woolies promos, etc.

Its tax-free money, so why not.

        • I normally forget about these cards, not worth the outlay.

You get more on return investment through shares or property.

But sure, I spose you save either way.

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: Depends how quickly you turn them over, eg the 7% return on these can be made almost instantly.

Also I'm not putting a dollar in shares or property currently, more falls to come in both in the short term.

          • @[Deactivated]: With an understanding of returns like that I doubt you own any shares or property.

  • just in time to pay my bas

  • +3

Just in Claremont, WA stocking up and they have hundreds of these in stock $100 and $250 on the gift card rack. Max 5 cards

  • They only gave me 2 of $250 . They said we dont have so many so we can only give you 2

    • +1

They always make up their own rules during this promotion.

      • as an individual i'd be bummed, but nice rule for the community, XD

    • Same happened to me at Maylands store. They were at the CS Desk. Got 2. Lots at Bassendean earlier though.

  • +2

Thanks for the heads up OP.

Managed to buy enough to pay off the council tax bill in full.

Recently signed up to a credit card which requires 6k spend in the first 120 days so this definitely helped reach that target!

    • Do these cards incur the usual CC surcharge with rates as well?

    Does this link work for anyone? I get redirected to;

    https://www.mybalancenow.com/#/

    Seems dodgy.

    • +1

      That’s how it works..

    • I was using it up until 9.30am this morning. Looks like we've overloaded the system, as it comes up with "system error" after you enter card details in. Stopped working just as I tried to verify my last card. FYI I couldn't use it in Firefox, page won't load. Had to resort to using the Evil Overlord site (lol) Google worked no problem on there until 9.30am

      • i have the same system error … so what did you do to correct it ?

i trier multiple browser and it goes to mybalancenow.com ? is that what happens to you as well ?

        • Yes, try another browser and make sure you get the captcha

  • +1

Does this spend count towards flybuys spend to get Velocity credits

  • +1

got the whole 'are you being scammed' questioning today. checkout person seemed all flustered and asked for help. manager? said yeah 5 the limit, not putting anymore out for sale, FFS
    .

  • 250s sold out at Coles Belmont but plenty of 100s left.

  • +4

If anyone shopping at the Fairfield coles QLD
be careful of Neil as he discriminates and will watch the aisle

Manager corrected him that its 5 per transaction but Neil has an
ego and likes to act above his pay grade

    • +2

This kind of promotions brings out this kind of behaviour in people.

My local Coles treated me like a criminal just buying five cards.

      • +1

Lol what's with the staff mindset seriously dont understand that

        • +2

were they old or white? The asian and teen workers couldn't give a sh!t, was even joking this is a very good deal lol

          • +1

@Frozensage: it was a deadly combo of both unfortunately.

  • It's good they stick to the limit.

It's unfair, people buy 30 cards and someone can't even grab a few for themselves.

    • +4

It sounds fair, but is life ever fair?

      • Nope 😂

Do you think Coles will be restocking these throughout the day or throughout the week?

        • +1

Maybe, maybe not. Some do, some don't. You'll have to visit frequently to find out which of course means using more petrol.

          • @capslock: I'm gonna ring the stores and ask, no answer tho.

It was so busy when I went into both stores today at midday, I don't know what's going on!

            • @[Deactivated]: free money and in words of fear mongering media "times are tough", recession around the corner.

  • +5

There seems to be significantly more stock of the $250 cards this time around.

Unlike previous promos, the 2 Coles stores near me actually had stock of the $250 cards when I went in at 9.30am. And it wasn't just a few cards - they had lots of boxes sitting behind the service counter (each box contains 100 x $250 cards). Better yet, the service desk assistant at one of the stores was happy to sell me as many cards as I wanted :)

    • lucky you, they only let me buy 5.

    • +2

Be thankful they closed the rinse and repeat method otherwise it will be sold out everywhere by now.

      • What is that rinsing?

        • +1

Buying additional gift cards and paying with these, i.e. rinse and repeat.

    • +1

I noticed a lot of stores are keeping the $250 cards behind the counter with limited payment options (I wanted to split payment across two credit cards - no go. Not allowed to split transaction either)

      • +1

They keep making up rules during this promotion.

      • i tested splittin 3 ways on card at self checkout, no good, asked me for cash

but said i could go to service desk/manned counter, i didnt bother that time

tho i wonder if a tiny amount of cash during split payment would work !?

        • I just did split payment with some coins and card. It worked as usual. Unfortunately no double dip, system not allowed

          • @R n b: What is the benefit of this why not all on the card?

    • Cos no double dip.

      • What do you mean by no double dip?

        • Rinse n repeat….buying and paying with same card…

  • +4

With all these publications, the scammers are feeling happy today.

  • Can I use these to purchase a flight ticket?
E.g for a flight costing 1.5k, is it possible to stack these cards?

    • +1

Yes, if the website you are buying the flight from allows you to split payment from multiple credit cards.

      • Awesome, thanks!

    • +3

Yes you can split the payment. But better not, as the refund process will be painful if the flight is cancelled

      • :O

      • What website lets you split cc payments?

  • +1

I can confirm: no 4 hour wait. I tried using one after 2 hours and it was active already.

  • well another coles i have been and they are finished … what a waste of petrol and time today :(

coles doing what aldi does by attracting shoppers to the shops in a hope they buy something even if they can't find cards :D

    • unlucky mate, in contrast to your experience i went 7am picked up 5 x 250 and then again 3pm to shop, walked past the GC area to have a look and still a healthy amount of stock

      • Good for you. Make sure you use it before someone hacks it ..!

I can easily pay my debt in one go if I find it… !

  • Some of my cards are active but some of them are not. Weird.

    • how many inactive/ out of

      • 06/27 are all active. 03/27 haven't.

        • My 03/27 are active, purchased about 9am

  • Bought 15 of these. 1 gift card got declined at the checkout and therefore was not activated. Payment already went through and the manager said she couldn’t do anything and referred me to the phone number on the back.

I had to email them a copy of my receipt and drivers licence so they could manually activate it. Still waiting for a response.

    • This happened to me with the vanilla cards. Turns out they did actually activate even though it said declined.

      • How declined if payment went thru?

        • Mine definitely not activated. The other 4 I used to pay my tax bill went through. The one that said declined on my receipt did not work

          • +1

@ryda: Please check you receipt and compare all the last 3 digits of the card again the approved and decline details.

I encountered the declined card, my scenario was, I got the staff serve, not the self serv, so the staff double scan same card, so of course the second scan would be declined but the Coles will still charge you.

I went back to explain to them and show them 4 card details on the receipt with one of the 2 times and the last card details was not one the receipt which mean the last card has never been scanned.

Hope this help everyone here encountered the same issue.

            • @fishandchips: This could get very complicated and hard to fix. I purchase the cards one at a time or 2 at most and watch them carefully.

          • @ryda: Check the balance online. The amount of cards you can use in a day to pay tax is limited.

  • Most stores had a box of the $250 gift cards at the service desk or the self service checkout person was holding onto them

    • Lol what is that strategy

      • +2

To stop their salary from going any lower since the discounts are paid for by the managers /s

      • ikr weird strat, from other comments it seems to be due to people hiding/stealing them?

  • -2

Went to my local coles today and saw an Asian lady with cash on hand and one coles staff service her only to buy gift card. I wait about 30mins to get my turn and got 5. She bought at least 50 cards when I was there. The other coles guys asking him still going?

    • you could have told the staff it is limit to 5 per cus

      • +1

or you can slam dunk the asian lady

        • hell yeah, 50 cards is absurd amount
