  • This reminds me of that Kogan TV with Collingwood branding

    • +1

Just be thankful you didn't work for Holden when they promoted the Collingwood pack on the Commodore :/

  • -2

    An annual fee of $59. :{

    • +10

Cancel after you get the $250? Net profit $191 ;)

      • +3

True, admitedly it's a pretty decent deal overall to be honest.

  • +21

Can I sit on a table away from the cricketers? I'm socially awkward and shy and this just sounds like a horror show, except the free meal in a restaurant part.

  • That's actually a pretty incredible deal. I'm going to wait until Thursday when all my accounts are paid off then apply then :)

  • +5

    what are the eligible purchases?
Can we buy a mobile , say for eg an iphone and get $250 back ?

    • Jesus, I didn't even think of that, ….. damn ….? That seems a very good idea……
It's basically $191 off anything you wanna buy over $500? MUST be some kinda T&C

EDIT: Duh, you're right, in the op notes.
      https://www.commbank.com.au/personal/credit-cards/cricket-ca…

Actually the only thing I can see is
"2Excludes balance transfers, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, cash advances (including transactions treated by the Bank as a cash advance) and BPAY transactions."

      Damn..!?

    • The eligible purchases criteria isnt very clear. Eg; do you have to spend $500 in a single transaction or $500 total in 30 days?

  • I already have platinum cc, can I apply for this?

    • +1

Similarly, if you have a home loan with commbank, all accounts are annual fee free if i"m not mistaken. Wonder if that includes this $59 fee…?

    • It seems so. I have a low fee CC but got declined, I'm guessing because they gave me a ridiculously high (for my situation) $10k limit on this other one.. I have $0 balance owing on it, and plenty of savings, but I moved that all to ING so maybe that's why they are not too keen on approving a 1k limit card for this promo :(

I might cancel my other card and reapply. Perhaps my part time income isn't high enough either.

      • +1

I'd say they're approving people based on their expected spending and payment habits as with right person and they'll be able to get back the 250.

If you have a history of paying off your balance and low usage you may not meet the criteria.

        • +3

Damn my frugal ways. No credit card for me :-(

        • @Infidel: just tell them you pay the minimum each month

        • @Infidel: Ditto, credit too good!

        • +1

          @Infidel:
If you have a history of paying off your balance and low usage you may not meet the criteria.
That's also what I thought, as I spend very little, always pay on time, and rarely need to work.

Applied & amazingly card on its way :-)
Had to provide documents of my meagre investments as I travel rather than work.

I've had money on my existing CommBank cc (from refund) for months - I use it so little. Use 28Degrees for online & 5% rebate MEbank card in stores.

This card will arrive in time to be used for only 1 bill - car rego. A nice discount when the cash back finally arrives.

Upvoted deal at long last :-)

        • @Infidel:
Cricketers card arrived, money spent, $250 should arrive within 90 days :-)
          A great deal.

  • +1

Sounds like a good deal.. can't see much of a catch. Is something hiding in the shadows that I cant see?

  • I already have a normal CC card with them (Awards CC) - how can I profit from this?!

    • +3

apply for this and spend $500

      profit

  • +5

Not sure if the first condition is satisfied if you click through via the CBA website:

Offer only applies to new personal limited edition Low Rate credit card applications applied for online via this webpage when accessed via dedicated Cricket Australia or CommBank branded promotions only.

    • +4

Can someone translate that into English? (thanks regardless)

      • +1

isn't applying for the cricket card thru the commbank website a "commbank branded promotion"

I think that clause would be for anyone who applied for a standard low rate cc, not the cricket one, and then attempted to claim the $.

        • +2

They might be checking referrals, so if you click from say here, they will count your click thru as not coming from an official promotion website.

I would copy and paste the url manually into a new tab/window, so theres no referral header sent by the browser.

    • +5

Just in case, click SHARE in deal & send to yourself. They can't knock that back & any OzBargain link is removed.
Received email "Limited Edition Cricket Credit Card - CommBank" with link to deal. I wonder who could have sent that?

      • Received my cricketers card:-)

  • +1

Any idea what the eligible purchases are?

    • +10

      cricket bats and kfc.

      (scroll up)

  • +1

    Annual fee $59; why?

I don't have an annual fee on my current Visa card and never have. I have never paid any interest on it, including no cash advances etc. If I applied for this I may get ejected (rejected too) though as I am now on a Carers pension … wouldn't like a rejection on my credit reference check.

    • +2

This is a Low Rate card. The one you have is a Low Fee card (higher interest), with no fee for having a CommBank account & proof of status to waive fee.

brezzo also has a low fee CC but got declined.

Good income level, assets, and little financial commitment will likely determine success:-(

I've applied for 2 cc in last few years. Even Coles refused, but told me to contact the credit rating company for a copy of my records. There was no record of refusal.

I got my free Low Fee card when I operated my business. But now travel most of year & work little. I am also wary of applying as my $12k credit limit may disappear. Once they see my meager income, I think rejection will be automatic :-(

But no big deal, as I am too frugal to likely spend $500 in a month to qualify ;-)

And 2 other payouts were not honoured in my previous deals. (It took 1 year of complaining to eventually receive $100.)

      • I see; yes the interest rate on mine would be deemed high. I use it as a convenience (as it should be used) rather than never - ending debt, and like some clients ending up in bankruptcy. I enjoy spending but I am also frugal.

Unusual the rejections did not appear with credit reference agencies; these are usually very accurate. It would appear then the rejections were decided on early in the process, based on income (capacity to pay); so to your benefit they are not listed. Then again, self employed applicants were not looked favourably upon, irregardless of income, when I was employed by a finance organization years ago.

Not the best advertising that the Bank is not honoring deals; wonders what is up there. I hope the Bank remembers my Visa came with life insurance; I have retained the document.

I would not like to apply and lose my current line of credit; $40,000+ (they kept upping this years ago, but now they are not supposed to do this without your request)… they must realise the source of my income by now.

I was at first attracted to this post as I thought the Bank may be handing out cricket collector cards. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that and given them ideas … ha ; o) I wouldn't mind one of those original old money boxes they had yonder years ago … highly collectable.

        • +1

I applied expecting the computer to say 'No'. Applied for $1k limit.
          Almost immediately received 'conditional approval'.
After supplying my bank statements to show my minimal income, "Congratulations, your credit card application has been approved.".
Surprised - I wouldn't give me another credit card ;-)

My car rego is due, so that's the $500+ in 1 bill. It's rare to save much on rego payment.

        • +1

@Infidel: Before the banks were told they were not to increase credit limits randomly (like mine) I ended up with a $44,000 credit limit. I certainly don't think I would ever owe that amount on a credit card, but it has come in handy at times. When I needed to buy a new car (22 year old Camry finally was worth less than the maintenance in one year) fairly urgently, I found myself a little short. I always do my best to save towards my next car … but no, I did not buy the car on my credit card (although I could have)! I used my pension money towards the payment and bought my shopping on the credit card. Living rather frugally, it was paid out by the end of the month though. I often wonder why the bank allowed my credit limit to get so high, when they must realise the source of my current income for now. I guess they must look at those owing on their credit at the end of the month, rather than us, paying it all out before any interest is due. Also, I have been with them since the year dot. It is rather difficult to do much these days without a credit card, but I don't they should be encouraging everyone to have one. As soon as people get into trouble with their debt, they tend to blame the banks instead of their own responsibility. Good luck with your new credit; $1,000 shouldn't generate too much interest, if you pay it off quick, or better still by the due date. :o)

        • @JediJan:
Yes, CommBank gave me a free Awards CC 25 years ago & I've never paid anything. Kept offering increased limits until I refused their offers. Handy having that emergency credit (most of last 10 years travelling overseas, so was good knowing it was there), but I was concerned about fraud or theft.

Limited this card to $1000 as more than enough for 1 purchase - my rego which will get me the cash back.

But it is amazing / reckless they offer so much credit to some people (like me) who don't have the income to repay.

I have a credit rating of 'very good' 831 from VedaScore. But Coles won't allow me their basic MasterCard as my income is low :-(

I never have problem paying off my balance each month with credit cards (I'm too frugal to spend much & hate paying more than I have to), so this card will be too easy. The cash back will still be appreciated ;-)

A new car… I've never had one of those ;-) After years (traveling os) without a car (& the expense!), last year I was given a well maintained 25 year old Honda Accord. Fortunately there have been no bills for any work. But it certainly is an expense I am considering doing without.

  • +2

Will this work for existing customers?

  • +4

I am still have not receive my 250 dollar back. Applied their credit card in June this year. Phoned several times and last time been noticed it may take another 2 months to refund. very disappointing.

    • +1

Lodge a complaint via their website, will get sorted in few days.

  • +4

    What?! Claus #12

"If Steve Smith is unavailable for some unforeseen circumstance, the lunch will not be
rescheduled and he will be replaced by a team mate. If this component of the prize is
unavailable, there is no cash alternative and no substitute prize will be offered."

    • It is always heartening to hear that someone is actually reading and summarising those clauses for us. Clause 12 though; hmm?!

    • +1

CC holder will have to pay for whole cricket team lunch it seems :-)

"You’ll also go in the draw to win lunch for you and 3 friends with members of the Australian cricket team *3."

  • +2

I already have another credit card with CBA, do you think I can also apply for this and take up this offer?

  • +2

Also note that you need to spend $500 within 1 month of the credit card being approved..

    • It says by 31 January 2016?

      • Which may still be within 1 month of the credit card being approved…

        • Which one of y'all is right?
I can move $500 in a month pretty easily but still, is it Jan 31 or 1 month?

        • @hamwhisperer: I was implying that it may be some time between applying for the card, and being approved. We're talking CommBank here, not NAB.

        • @muncan: I blindly assumed it would be quick nowadays. I got a 17k Amex in about 15 minutes around 6 weeks ago, organised online.

        • @hamwhisperer:
It would be whichever comes earlier..

        • @muncan: I applied for one and it says will be delivered within 5-10 working days. Credit check not a problem as I already have Diamond card with them..

    • Yes, this is in the terms and conditions!
Above post should be in bold for the most important clause for anyone considering this offer.
Might mean leaving it for a few weeks before applying so all Xmas shopping expenses can be inuded in the 1 month period.

  • +1

argh. this, combined with the recent ebay voucher deal would've made my computer purchase a ridiculous price.

  • +1

Anyone know how long the card takes to be processed and delivered?

    • +11

      Approximately one test series.

  • +2

    Thanks OP just ordered two…

  • +2

Can I order 2 (one for me and one for wife)

Use my card to pay $500 on a $1500 laptop and the use wife card to pay for the rest, essentially splitting the payment but spending $500+ on each card.

Then get $250 cash back on each card

    • I am pretty sure you can, that's what I am planning to do. Good luck!

    • If you applied for a joint card I wouldn't have thought it would work as a joint card is essentially the same account with two cardholders.

If you applied for two cards individually, however, then I can only think it should work just fine.

      • +1

Only smart people browse OzBargain, if I had applied for a joint card then I wouldn't be browsing OzBargain :P

  • -3

annual fee? say no, just no.

  • +2

CBA is about to discover the power of OZB. On a side note, OP what's the story with the username?

    • +5

Was probably near some (from my dog) when I signed up. :P

  • has anyone got their 5% return from this card? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/205149
I think I need to chase them up

    • +1

I called several times but they always say it'll appear jn 60 days, or…..someone said 90 days after activation.

      • ta

  • +3

I feel like there should be a catch to getting half my money back… Are they that desperate for customers?

    • +2

Multiple posters in this thread claiming CBA simply aren't paying the money….!? without hassling at least.

      • For $191 profit, it's worth the hassle. Now, need to plan whether to buy Mac, Apple Watch or Dyson V6!

  • -4

    WHAT THE F**K CBA!!!???

I'm on a PENSION with a bit of debt that I just manage to scrape off a bit per month and you offer me $1500 LIMIT!!!

(Ironically, I've just launched 'Operation UP YOURS' and will have the debt paid off in full by Thursday).

Damn! I only wanted a $500 limit. I do have to take in my Centrelink paperwork for final approval but DAMN! They really want to stretch everyone's debt out hard with a promo like this!

I'm going to take the maximum limit they give me, string it out for the cashback then can the card.

    • if you bothered to do the application properly you'd have seen they offer you the option of choosing a max limit.

      • -3

I know… I wanted to see how far they were trying to go in regards to this promotion

    • +1

I'm confused they offer you too much or too little?
      Here's a tip, doesn't matter if the limit is $100 or $1000000
DON'T BUY STUFF YOU CAN'T AFFORD.

      • -1

It's stuff I need though, currently refurbing the car. Almost at the end though so…

        • +1

No seriously I'm confused, too much or too little credit? ………. if you can't afford it, don't do it.
I'm nearly 38, I've paid $9 interest in my life and it made me angry.

        • @hamwhisperer:

I can VERY afford it, I literally can get parts from the factory door. $15 for a shock absorber etc.

It just seemed a bit too much credit compared to what they've offered in the past. They've just approved the $1500. So cutting up the existing card, moving onto the $1500 one. Cycling to get the cashback and by the time I've cycled my low weekly expenses through it, I'll have the overdraft (from a failed business) paid off on a lower interest rate and will have the cash available in my savings to knock out the card. (Hard to follow, I know).

    • that'll teach em!

  • +8

goes and have lunch with 3 members of the Australian cricket team

    DMP: Hello
Cricket player #1: G'day mate, how are ya?
    DMP: Good. And youse?
    Cricket player #1: Good.
    Cricket player #2: Fabulous.
Cricket player #3: Fine, just fine. Fine indeed.
DMP: So, is cricket like a sport or something?
Cricket player #1: Yes mate. It's like baseball, except… when it's not.
DMP: I'm guessing baseball is a sport too?
    Cricket player #1: Yes mate.
DMP: Sorry, I don't know much about sport. Don't really follow it. I'm only here because of the Commonwealth Bank cashback thing, and I happened to win a lunch with youse.
Cricket player #1: Okay mate. internally thinks "stop saying "youse""
    [Cricket chirping intensifies]

I don't see this lunch going well. At all.

    • +1

Ah, who cares about the company if the food is nice :-)

      • it might be lunch and MacDonalds!

  • +3

So difference to this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/214530?
    * $59 annual fee vs free annual fee for 1st year
    * $250 cash back vs 40,000 Qantas FF Points

So it seems if you're willing to deal with the hassle of FF points then the Commbank Platinum Awards Credit Card would be the one to apply for?

    • +3
    • Although if you've already got that card from the previous promo (so are ineligible to apply), then this seems a good deal.

    • +1

Anyone know if we can get both this card and the 40k points CBA card and be eligible for both deals? I'm a little confused..
      Thanks guys :)

      • Seconding this. Has anybody successfully applied for both cards and received both offers? Would love to do this if I can, but I'd rather check first.

  • +1

may i ask what's the eligibility requirements to be approved for the cc?

    • +3

Not much judging by what they've offered me!

  • +2

    Thanks :)

  • Does anyone know if opening it, using it solely for one $500+ purchase then closing it - will impact your credit score?

    • Credit cards barely rate a speed bump. If you defaulted on paying it then it could launch it up the creek but it's usually only personal/home loans that go on your credit file.

(If someone knows otherwise, let me know, credit files aren't my strong point, paedophiles are though)

      • I recently signed up for a credit report website which shows credit score/past enquiries:
I've got 3 'credit enquiries' on there for a CC with GE Money dating back to 2011, not sure if this has had any impact on score…I guess I'll find out…

      • This is what I thought, particularly as the limit is very low.

        • Checked my credit score today, it has gone down 24 points since applying for the card

        • @dunc05: Im assuming you cancelled it? Or do you mean just from applying?
What does '24' points translate to? Ie. Is it out of 100? or?…

        • @elliot91:

Just from applying, have not cancelled it yet.

Credit score is out of 1000
          0 - 549: Below average
          550 - 624: Okay
          625 - 699: Good
          700 - 799: Very good
          800 - 1000: Excellent

I don't want to drop down a level so will carefully consider future enquiries, the earliest one on my file will drop off next june (after 5 years) so will be interesting to see if it goes up…

        • @dunc05:
Checked my VedaScore which uses different ranges to those above. VedaScore falls in a range between 0 and 1200.
Dropped by 35 points in a month. Its "Very Good", but was just 2 points below the top range of "Excellent". Still, Coles won't issue me a free MasterCard. So credit score is only part of the picture.

As the scores are in broard range, small variation within the range is unlikely to be of much importance. I don't check my score often enough to know if it varies.

    • Why would opening a CC then closing it (After getting the the $250) will impact the credit score? I thought it only happens if you were unable to repay the debt?

  • +2

What are the chances of someone on the pension being approved for a card? I'm reluctant to disclose details about my employer because I don't want them to telephone my manager (and waste their time! And expose my cheapskateness)
