    • Dude… I'm on DSP and got offered $1500. Your chances are pretty damn good. Plus I've got an overdraft I've barely been able to manage for a while! (Which I'm now really going hard into).

      • Ah cool, thanks. I'll give it a go.

  • Keen to hear if those who applied for the card through the link on this page receive the cricket card.

Sure did, arrived in the mail today along with an ad for the $250 cash back

      • +1

        Niiiiiiice!

      • Does it come with the T's & C's?

        • +2

Came with card+letter, another letter, card brochure, cash back ad and conditions of use.
Unfortunately didn't come with a reminder to cancel after 11 months to avoid the 2nd annual fee

        • +1

mine came only on the paper it was stuck to. How can I make sure the $250 cash back is still valid?

        • @bensl:

I got 2 separate letters (on the same day), maybe the other one will show up soon.

  • +2

Thanks Op, just put my application in now, fingers crossed I don't have to work too hard to get the $250 back (based on those who claim they had a heck of a time)

  • +3

Got mine today !!! Now lets see do I get $250 back….in coming months
    Buying a PS4 bundle + 2 games
Cheers to ozbargain & ozbargainers !!…

    • +1

I'm going to refurb my brakes and whatever else I need to do on the car

    • I'm curious to see how this goes - people please post back here in a few months let us know how you go. I imagine there'll be some trouble.

      • -1

I'll be waving the pamphlet they mailed in their face at the nearest branch if this doesn't go through!

I'm still a bit dubious but couldn't find anything they could use to get out of paying the $250 (ie eligble purchases etc).

I don't like having to pay the annual fee (after a month as far as I could tell), and almost had second thoughts when activating the card, but the two fiddy was too tempting.

Planning to put electricity/gas/water bills on the card (lame I know).

      • heya….got $250 cashback today

  • +2

Got mine today. As soon as they give me the cashback i'm going to close the account, easiest $191 bucks i'll ever make.

  • +1

I got a card today, but it's the started looking credit card, not the special edition cricket card. No mention of the $250 cash back either. Will be calling them up today

    • +1

Bloke I spoke to via online chat said: "We are currently offering $250. cash back on ALL Low Rate credit card applications submitted online. Just ensure you activate the card and spend at least $500. on purchases by 31st January"

Got print screen of it too (just in case) :P

      • +1

I just spoke with them and they said for some reason the promo code was not attached to the form. CC team will look into it with a turnaround time of 10 days.

31st January? I thought it was December? Personally I would rather get the correct card with the correct promo than to have an argument later on when you don't get the $250 you were expecting.

  • Sounds good

  • +2

got the card, spent the cash, then cut it up!

    sounds almost too easy…

    • you're missing the 'wait for the cashback' part of this thing which could theoretically be end of april.
And when it actually comes through, I guess (?) we need to have an outstanding balance on the card for it to subtract from ?

      • There would be no need for an outstanding balance at time of Cashback, just a current account.
I have money on my existing CommBank cc due to a refund.

Chopped up card would have no effect on pay out, just stops temptation to spend.

        The wait begins…

        • So how do you turn it into cash ? Can you withdraw it from an ATM or txf to another account ?

        • @dunc05:
Yes, ATM, online transfer, or close account - just check for any fees first. I just leave it there to draw down for future purchases.

        • @Infidel: Can you elaborate on this? Does it show as extra funds on your CC account balance on Netbank?

        • @elliot91:
As I've not received any CommBank cc pay out like this, I don't know. Received promo funds with other banks cards, but varies with bank. I just spend the free money :-)

  • +1

    Approved! $18k limit….. Lol

    Gonna buy me a PS4 next time there's a bargain !!!

  • +1

Received my card, gonna use it to buy $10k worth of 12th man CDs

  • I got shot down for my application, despite perfect credit history, 200k in cash assets and some shares. No job is no job :/ man what a shame, free money.

    • I think it might depend on the credit limit you are applying for? Or perhaps how much credit you have successfully applied for in the past?
Cynical me: Banks don't actually want people with good financial budgeting skills. They don't make any money off those…

  • +1

Careful people. CBA has been royally screwing people on their cash backs and fee refunds. It took 6 months of chasing and a talking to the complaint department to demand their address for service to get on top of the "stack" of refunds. CBA rep told me they are processing refunds manually for the last deal that went awry!

  • Well just went in a branch today and got signed up for mine, say should be here within 6 days. Got signed up for the Low-Fee one which includes the same deal for $250 back. Although terms and conditions for it are actually lighter.

    For example:
    Cricket Card
Excludes balance transfers, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, cash advances (including transactions treated by the Bank as a cash advance) and BPAY transactions.

    Low Fee Card
    Excludes balance transfers, cash advances

Edit: Also was told, don't have to pay the yearly fee till a year after issue date.

    • Yes it does sound better in regard to the annual fee:

Enjoy $0 annual fee for the first year and each year you spend $1,000 or more in the previous year (alternatively a $29 annual fee applies).

      • +1

Probably use it, get the refund, and cancel. That way I don't have to worry about the card or fees.

    • Where's a link that says the "Low Fee" card gets the same $250 cashback as the "Low Rate" cards?

      • Can't find it on the site myself, although it was in the store.

… Just thinking now that the person who served me did sign me up for one with the deal. Should have.

        • Perhaps that is an in-branch sign-up offer.

According to this link which I managed to find, only the low rate qualifies, not the low fee.

        • that's the point I was making

  • +4

    Got my $250 today, winner.

  • fellow ozbargainers….got my $250 cashback :) exactly after a month

    • cricket card?

  • +1

Card activated 17/11, $500 spent 20/11, cash back received 30/11. Pretty happy with that!

Although the I realise now, the cash back actually came through before the annual fee was charged on 3/12. If only I had've cancelled it then.

    • Ooh, missed a golden opportunity to get out scott free.
my ozbargain hand edged towards the neg button - had to use all will to stop it punishing you.

    • Yes, same dates with me. Cash back in 10 days is great.

  • +2

Got my cash back today!!! PLUS managed to get the annual fee waived on the basis that I'm a loyal customer :D

    • Good to hear.
Any tips on approach to ask for fee waiver? And how loyal is loyal (investments, loans etc)?

      • +1

I've got a couple of everyday and savings accounts plus CommSec. Been a customer since I was 8! But that doesn't mean u can't still ask and try ur luck!

  • Hey guys just after some advice, I am using this card to buy a new GPU ~ $500. The store I am getting it from however charges a 2% fee for credit cards. Is there a way to get around this while still using the $500 purchase on the card?

I know it is not much but the OzBargainer in me needs to save that extra $10

    • Do they accept paypal & if so, is there a fee associated with it ?

      • It has on the site they accept PayPal. However there is no option to select PayPal on checkout. Would signing this card up with PayPal still be eligible for the cash back?

        P. S. I'm buying from msy

        • Despite being the 'name you can trust', I've never never purchased through MSY but would assume if it says Paypal it must have the option there eventually - there looks to be a few steps in the checkout process so can you keep going until you see it ?

Purchasing through paypal should absolutely make you eligble as it is not an exclusion:

"Excludes balance transfers, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, cash advances (including transactions treated by the Bank as a cash advance) and BPAY transactions"

P.S. What card are you getting ?

        • @dunc05:

The sapphire 390 Nitro. I am an nVidia fan all the way but the vram issue with the 970 has pushed me away. I wanted to future proof this rig

        • @dunc05:

I found out PayPal is only for items that are being shipped, which would cost about the same as the 2% fee. Plus I want it now rather than waiting. I have been waiting for this credit card to arrive enough already :P

  • I wonder how much info Commbank has managed to collect on a lot of people and what they doing with it.

  • Got the standard card with no info on cash back.

  • Just a question, just bought a $550 phone on eBay with the card and looking to get the cashback and then cancel the card.
How should I do this? Wait for the cashback and add the extra amount required to bring it to a balance of $0, and then close.

If I close the card, what actually happens to the credit score, as I have heard people talking about.

  • Went to local branch today to talk about waiving the card fee as suggested by shik.

Got my annual fee waived by migrating my card from Low Rate to Low Fee. I already qualify for fee waiver if I spend $1000/yr in subsequent years. So they applied same conditions to this card.

Person on phone understood I had been paid $250 to use the new card but made nothing of it. She simply moved balances to the Low Fee rate but the card remains the same. But warned me of the higher interest rates, and assured me the fee (due on Monday) was waived.

So worth a try. Saved me $59.

    • Checked my transactions after $59 fee was waived - still have the $250 cash back. So a clear $250 profit for minimal effort :-)

      • Is there any way to do this online? Going into a branch is not minimal effort for me hehe.

        • I'd rather be inconvenienced at the branch for 15 minutes & save $59. Was in the shopping centre already.

  • Just want to let everyone know that Commonwealth have credited me with $250 on 30th Nov.

  • Received my cashback a week after spending the $500. Nice

    • do we have to apply for the cashback or does it come itelf?

  • Guys, do we have to apply for it or is it an automatic cashback on the credit card account?

    • +1

      automatic

  • Has anyone received any cashback since Christmas? I'm waiting patiently, and I know it could be up to 90 days wait, but going by some others it's not that slow

    • I received my cashback. I satisfied the spending criteria in mid December, but only just received the cashback a few days ago. I'm very happy :)

      • good for you, when exactly in Dec did u fulfill the criteria, just trying to come up with my timelines for the credit.

Woah just noticed I got the credit too!! awesome

        • About a week before Christmas. I had a tense couple of weeks whilst I waited for Commonwealth to honour their side of the contract :D

  • Me too waiting after my shopping on the 26th. Was hoping to have got it by now based on the above comments. fingers crossed!

  • Spent it all just before Christmas and no cash back yet but been charged the annual fee

    • Have u received it yet? I havn't either and i spent $789 a week before christmas.
Considering calling them to ask in a week or two if nothing clears.
I payed it off as well so i don't get charged interest.

      • Nope…spent over in Dec and again in Jan

Worth a call? The new offer is only $150..

  • got cashback yesterday :-)

    1. Excludes balance transfers and cash advances (including transactions treated by the Bank as a cash advance).

Can someone explain that, as this is the only thing I see as a footnote for this deal. $500 purchase till 29th feb for $250 cashback

    • if u do a balance transfer or cash advance transactions, that is not counted towards the $500 purchase thing. hope it makes sense.

  • Anyone who hasn't received:

I gave them a call and they said it was delayed due to technical glitch and all cash backs would be received by 12th Feb

  • I got my cashback $250 yesterday :-).. All I did was renewed my car rego and paid for CTP .. cheers..
