    Worth noting:

A $75 annual Velocity Rewards Program fee still applies.

    • +1

So it's really $124 annual fee if you're a westpac customer

      • +6

Yep and only for the first year, then it shoots up to $250. What a rort charging an annual velocity membership fee!

        • Doesn't every membership charge annual fees? Qantas and velocity both do. Unless of course the cost is higher but its 'included in the price'

          • @ATangk: No, only Qantas do charge the credit card surcharge fee.

    • yeah its not the best deal i got the last popular deal with he ANZ rewards card you only have to spend 3k and you get 93000 velocity points. So Westpacs deals kind of sucks.

      • Not really the same level of card though- that ANZ Rewards was a Black card with $15k minimum credit limit and a higher annual fee and is expired anyway. The current Black offer is only for 55k points.

Meanwhile the equivalent ANZ Rewards Platinum card gives you 50k velocity points.

        • yes but you don't get alot of points which is the point with the westpac ones. remember if your just doing it for the points your not going to keep this forever.

      • Westpac black offers 90k points?

  • +1

Last two got knocked back :(

    • +1

yeah its apparently harder to get a westpac credit card even if you have excellent rating. You basically need to have 1 debt a home loan and that is the only acceptable approval you get with westpac lol. you have anything else they reject you.

      • Not true. I just applied for this with 3 home loans and 2 credit cards and got approved.

    • +1

      Same, given up on westpac.

  • +6

Exclusion period 24 months =/ gonna be a while

    • Is it for all westpac card or Velocity?

      • +1

Offer not available if you’ve held an Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black card with Altitude Rewards, Qantas or Velocity in the last 24 months.

  • +2

Still serving my 24-month cooling period. This is painful to watch. :(

  • Anybody wanna comment on whether Qantas or Velocity points are better? Unsure which one to join.

    • +2

Which do you have more of now? Stick with that. Me personally collecting both with more emphasis on velocity.

      • Neither. I've never been sure which one is better than the other so been hesitant to commit.

        • +1

Poor reason to miss out on rewards

    • +5

      Velocity by far

      • +2

        What makes you say that?

        • +1

For me, it's access to Qatar Airway's routes to many parts of Europe. Simply more availability and reach than Qantas' offering (via Emirates).

        • +6

Qantas' international flight availability is in the dumpster.

          They've cooked the system.

I have 700k points and everytime i've tried to use them there's been zero international availability.

  • Never been with Westpac before. When does this offer expire? Wondering if it's worth opening up a new bank acc with them just for this offer.

    • +1

It is worth opening the bank account.

I did this, about 2 years ago.

Just go into a branch, and they'll open an account for you, on the spot. No fuss.

Then, apply for the Credit Card.

      • +3

Or just apply online, takes a few minutes and you get access right away and can apply for the card. Did it last year.

    • +1

Yep it's worth it. I opened a Westpac Choice account a few weeks ago. Online process was easy. Then applied for the Altitude Black Mastercard. Approved within 4 business days. And as soon as I received the approval I could start using the digital card. Physical card took more than a week to arrive in the letterbox.

    • +1

cancel before 1 year since they charge $5 for their transaction account after 1 year promo is over.

  • +1

Amex fam is where its at

    • Amex has removed their zero annual fee Essentials card and replaced it with the $9 monthly Essentials card.

They send Emails to me, telling me to "upgrade" to this card.

  • I got approved today within few hours

  • +1

    any lounge access?

    • +1

      No lounge access.

  • +2

Westpac cards are always such a low value proposition.

    • -1

Yup. $250 annual fee for absolutely stuff all. Terrible value.

      • $124

        • Only for the first year and only if you already have westpac accounts.

          • +3

@Mike Nolan: and why would you keep virtually any rewards card for more than a year?

  • Just got this exact card yesterday :(

    • but the deal says long running so…it started today and you were too early :O

      • Yeah I think I'll just get 60k instead of the new 75k, but I did activate the extra 20k bonus.

  • If you're not using the points for flights is there any benefit?

    • +5

Sell the points :) going rate 1.35c per point. Over $1k profit for this card

      • How to sell points? Thanks

        • Ozbargain classifieds

        • It is against T&Cs so you do run the risk of ban from the reward program

          • +3

@TheFreaK: I've been selling points for years never been banned. Just don't do it too frequently on one account

  • +1

Long shot-if I was previously with St George would I qualify as a previous Westpac customer?

    • Also how about closed Westpac accounts?

  • +5

I’m kinda feeling card churning is a bit of a waste of time nowadays. By the time you pay for annual fees the points might provide some profit but not enough for me to bother with

  • +2

24 months (used to be 12months) and a velocity fee these days…wow!

Consumers need to get their act together. Banks are calling the shots.

  • Dang I just churned this for 60k…

  • +1

Currently have the Virgin Velocity High Flyer Card.
Does my card make me ineligble to get the points on this offer?

    https://virginmoney.com.au/credit-card/compare-our-credit-ca…

    • Not an issue.

    • +2

No. Westpac != Virgin Money (Citi). Go for it!

  • Hi
Does anyone know if VFF points can be used to redeem Qatar tickets? Or do I need Qantas FF

    • Yes Qatar will be through Velocity.

  • Hi, i am not a westpac customer, if i open an account separately, will i be the existing customer and get the discounted rate?
Also, is there a time limit for how long we have to hold this card? Or can close it after receiving bonus?
Sorry new to churning cards, so a bit of a noob. Thanks for your help.

    • +1

if i open an account separately, will i be the existing customer and get the discounted rate?

You can open account separately, and then at the time of Credit Card application, you would already be a customer to get the discounted rate.

is there a time limit for how long we have to hold this card?

No 'time limit' per se, but as soon as you satisfy the minimum spend criteria, you will be awarded the Velocity Frequent Flyer points. However, as soon as you enter the second year of holding the card, you will be charged the annual fee.

Or can close it after receiving bonus?

You can close the card after receiving the bonus.
You will also need to remember that after closing the card, you won't be eligible for any credit card offers with Westpac for the next 24-months.

      • Thankyou good sir, appreciate the info!

        • Happy points collecting!

  • so…is this a decent card for existing Westpac user or nay

  • Is the title correct for new customers? Says $175 annual fee + $75 velocity fee.

  • just a side question, i just got a new bank card and it has a little curve sliced out of it and i just saw this card also has it… can someone explain why cards have this. i can not work out what it is used for, that side doesnt get inserted into eftpos terminals so whats it for?

    • +2

Assistance for the vision impaired-tactile dots and the curved 'slice' help with card orientation

      • ohh didnt even think about them. ok makes sense now. thanks i googled it and nothing really turned up, just ads about getting a credit card

  • What's the velocity fee? I've velocity frequently flyer acc that I opened few years back with no fee, used it for amex as well as citi. Can I use the same velocity frequent flyer acc for this offer? And if I can, do I just have to pay their 75$ fee?

    • Fee to earn velocity points using this credit card. It’s not virgin charging but the bank

  • Yes you still have to pay the fee, just another way for the banks to make more money off you

  • does a Westpac savings account consider as existing westpac customer? Or is everyday transaction account required

  • Got rejected for the first time… no more churning cards for me.

    • How many cards have you opened in the last 12 months?

      • +1

just Amex velocity and closed it already.

  • Damn 24 months waiting period. Will check Westpac's deal in 2026

  • Got approved..it was pretty easy

  • +1

Ye boi. Approved. One of the quickest. +20k bonus via velocity promo as OP mentioned.
