NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card: 80,000 NAB Rewards Points with $1000 Spend in 60 Days, $45 1st Year Fee (New Customers Only)

680

80K NAB rewards points equates to 40K Velocity but annual fee is $45 in the first year. Never seen it this low before. It is very similar to this earlier deal giving 60K Velocity for $95 AF in the first year. Conditions are the same as always, to spend $1000 in 60 days and 18 month exclusion for prior customers. I don't believe Qantas card customers are blocked from applying as it is a different product.

Summary:

  • first year for $45 giving 80K NAB Rewards (equals 40K Velocity)
  • second year for $195 giving 20K NAB Rewards (equals 10K velocity)

  • Unless I'm reading the site wrong, the deal should be for 80k points with a $45 fee, or 100k points with a $240 fee (because you need to hold the card for over 12 months to get the full 100k).

    • +1

Yeah i'd say that's the correct way of putting it.
      More applicable to churners.

Scummy banks taking away our benefits.

    • Fixed by a mod now.

      • +2

Yep. I had made a mistake. It’s 80k in the first year

  • +5

Waiting nearly 3 months now for them to approve a credit card. NAB are hopeless.

    • Did you call? Try emailing [email protected]

      • +1

Yep. Emailed. Online chat. Rang 3 times. Just keep getting told they've left a message for the original 'case officer', and they will be in contact shortly.

        • +4

It’s weird that banks spend so much on mortgage and credit card marketing and offers to desperately pull you in but when you apply they treat you like trash and really really don’t want your business.

        • -3

          Unlikely story imo

          • +1

@4foxache: Took me 2 days all up without rushing, had to front the bank to finalise it though.

        • +2

You should be grateful you're getting the personal attention of a 'case officer', when I apply it's a case of some algorithm accepting or rejecting in 60 seconds with no right of appeal.

    • +3

      Mine approved in 2 days.

      • +1

        Mine approved in 60 secs

        • +3

Same here. Been approved instantly as an existing customer via online application while signed in.
Quite pleased with their application process vs. other banks.

      • +1

Mine's taken a couple weeks for a new customer but I took a while to get the documents approved. Card came quick too.

    • +2

I had the same experience. So angry that I asked them to just cancel my application. Madness

      • +3

Can they remove credit check if they cancel application

  • I paid $95 annual fee for first year in 2022
Anyway, I like NAB compared to other banks
They have additional bonus points and interesting campaigns

    • +3

Plus their online experience is in a different league compared to some other banks eg HSBC (PayID? what's that?).

  • Can anyone confirm 80,000 reward points conversion in gift cards?

    • 102k is $500

      • They also had occasionally 5-10% off on certain gift cards, got some airbnb gcs for a good rate last year.

        • They have $20 cashback on $100 or more spend at special gift cards.

          • +1

@Spendmore: Yep, this is part of the Goodies, also works just with the normal debit card.

            • @linkser: Thats interesting, Is the normal debit a visa?

  • +8

Going to need more than 40k velocity after having served my 18 months penance

  • Redeem for cashback

So 80K points convert to $320 cash? Is this correct?

      • I came up with the same result

  • Does anyone know why the NAB Rewards Signature Card sign-up bonus points deal has stopped? When will it be available again?

    • Call NAB and ask

  • Thanks for the post. Could I please confirm whether this means you can have the card for, let's say 22 months and then cancel, and only pay a $45 annual fee? Or does the second year annual fee have to be paid immediately after the 12 months? Thank you :-)

    • +1

First year's annual fee will be charged in the first month. Second year's annual fee will be charged in the 13th month.

      • +2

Thank you very much - that makes a lot of sense.

  • -3

its good but not enough points there are better deals out there that will give you higher points I recommend going to this site https://www.pointhacks.com.au/credit-cards/ followed up by this site. https://www.rwrds.com.au/frequent-flyer/velocity this is how you get into the real point hacking :D

  • Reduced fee is 95 for existing NAB customer with 90k points in year 1. For new custosers fee is $45 with 80k points.

  • Can you use this one to pay off a Tax debt and get the points. I know the NAB Business card does, but nothing on this one.

  • Sorry to ask how much is 80,000 NAB Rewards Points in gift card value

  • I had a qantas nab card. Is the 18 months waiting period also applicable for this one as well?

  • Does anyone know if buying gift cards through a rewards portal (e.g. Rewards Gateway, Perkbox, etc.) are eligible to go towards the bonus Nab Rewards Points/earn Nab Rewards points? I have contacted NAB and they weren't too helpful in giving me a definite answer.

    • They are qualified purchases. They are not governemnt or gambling purchases. So they must be eligible.

  • if you cancel before the year is up, can you get annual fee back (pro-rata)?

    • Results are varied. You can try.

  • Just be aware that NAB is "rewarding" existing customers with an extra 10000 points…. And charging $95 instead of $45 first year fee for the privilege.
    Love having loyalty rewarded….ughh.

    • It's not amazing, but the ongoing fee is $95 as well. So if you plan to hold a card for over 12 months (I plan to do this with this card in particular) then it's a relatively low annual fee with 90k points in the first year and 30k points in the 2nd year for $190.

I opened this and an ANZ rewards card at the exact same time. I plan to use the ANZ card throughout the first year as my primary card, then just before the 2nd annual fee kicks in at ANZ, switch over to this NAB card and cancel the ANZ card. I've hit the spending criteria on both cards for the first year.

EDIT: Overall, the existing customer bonus is better value over the 2 years. $240 over 2 years for a new customer with 100k points. $190 over 2 years for an existing customer with 120k points.

  • Sorry for the noob question. This is my first time getting the credit card.
How do I track how much money to go in order to get the bonus points?

    • When you open your NAB app or log on to internet banking, check how much you've spent till date. Within 60 days of card approval, you should have spent $1000 (cleared, not pending). The monday after you hit your target, NAB will add points to your account. The NAB Rewards link is present in your internet banking or from the app. If you want to transfer to something like Flybuys pr Velocity, you can set it up now or after the bonus points have landed.

      • Thanks. By the sound of it, it does not have any in-built trackers in the APP. Is it the same for most of the credit card welcome bonus?

        • it does not have any in-built trackers in the APP

You can see how much you've spent. What more tracking did you need?

      • Not sure if it's the Monday after, or perhaps the Monday after the statement period ends? I've reached $1000 (slightly over, excluding the annual fee) for well over a week and haven't been credited the points yet.

  • I've met required spending on my first cycle and already in the middle of the second cycle but I haven't received my points yet. I have only received my spending points but not bonus points.

Any idea how long it will take to land on my account?

    • I thought it would have triggered already, best to call NAB and ask

    • Points will be awarded on a tiered basis - 90,000 bonus points when you spend $1,000 on everyday purchases in the first 60 days (credited to your points balance within three months of meeting the spend criteria) and 30,000 bonus points after 12 months (credited to your points balance within the 13th month). NAB may vary or end this offer at any time.

This is for the existing customer offer. But the same timeframe is provided for the new customer offer too.

  • Had anyone been able to determine what exactly qualifies as "everyday purchases"?
Utility and Comms bills should be ok, but what about rates, insurance, strata, etc?
I can't find an answer on the NAB web site, but hopefully someone can advise.

    • +1

Insurance, strata power, gas should be fine. Car rego, water (usually), council rates, govt fines, ATO, etc are not accepted

      • Thanks a lot for that - I'm assuming the same are qualifying purchases for the purpose of getting the sign-up bonus of xx,000 NAB Rewards points spending $y dollars in zzz days.

  • got a Citi bank credit card, since they got took over by Nab, do I still count as new member ?

    • +1

Unrelated products. Won’t matter afaik. Can always call and check

    • You will likely have been given a NAB ID. If so, you're an existing customer. That being the case, you should get $100 off the annual fee ongoing ($95 per year), and a different amount of points (better).

      • You will likely have been given a NAB ID

I don't think this is quite right. That may have been the case for products like Savings accounts and Transaction accounts (e.g. Citibank Plus) which were migrated from the Citi platform to NAB platform. However, Citi credit cards cards have yet to be formally migrated.

  • Is this better if we after giftcard ?

    https://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/credit-cards/rewards/am…

After fees will will of $450-49 = $401
    while Nab is $320-49 = 271
