Is This a Good Deal? - Tesla ML3 Long Range AWD

Tesla Gurus, as the title suggests, is this a fair price for this car? I have checked other cars on Carsales/Marketplace and my understanding is that it is a little bit higher but buying it directly from Tesla gets me:

One-year extra warranty on the vehicle.

Acceleration boost (For sporadic shits and giggles) -$3000 add on a new car

Enhanced Autopilot - $5000 on a new car.

Peace of mind that it has been checked by Tesla.

If I were to order a new car spec to spec, it would cost me 75k today. Thanks much.

Sure, it's a great deal if you are an Elon boot licker and like supporting a Nazi sympathizing arse clown oligarch on government welfare.

I say go for it… And feel free to come back and post when someone keys your car and spray paints "(fropanity) Elon!" all over it.

You sound unhinged. Get some help.

Your logic of destroying someone’s property because you don’t like the CEO is the most idiotic reasoning I’ve heard, primary school children are taught to respect other people’s property, I see you missed that part of growing up.

Going by your logic, I should go spray paint f**k CCP all over a BYD because I don’t agree with the human right violations of the communist Chinese government. Or muslims should start keying the the cars because they disagree with the treatment of the ethnic Muslim minorities in China?

      Grow up.

      • Your logic of destroying someone’s property because you don’t like the CEO is the most idiotic reasoning I’ve heard, primary school children are taught to respect other people’s property, I see you missed that part of growing up.

I'm fairly sure Tesla's are more prone to getting keyed than any other car. Mainly the numpties that dislike electric cars…

        • +3

Or they are just more widely reported on social media as Tesla has sentry mode that records every time a car is keyed.

My brothers new Subaru outlook got keyed the first day he parked at a shop. Some people just don't like other people having new shiny things.

        • +4

I mean, yeah it's just weird lol.

        • +15

Personally I think pointing out the morals and ethics (or lack thereof) of the bloke at the top is a fair call.
aka lining his pocket is further enabling the toxic feral behaviour that was pointed out, and the ongoing ideological bullying of minorities and political opponents, is also worthy of scrutiny in any market place.
How often has the forum seen shrill posts here calling for boycotts because woke?
(eg Big W CEO and Straya Day sad sacks)
The tide has turned.People defending Musks behaviour are woke

            • +3

@Fredfloresjr: Not it's not and there's no comparison. Musks toxic behaviour is toxic, globally impactful and live. You can't filter out the good bits and look away from the big picture truth.

    • -4

      Who cares? Transparent virtue signalling.

OK, if you actually can name the CEOs of Toyota, Ford, etc and bought your own car after checking the politics of the company owners, then I retract.

Henry Ford was a raving anti-semite, VW and Mitsubishi were deeply involved in war crimes, but yelling about that is not really fashionable, is it?

      • +9

Who cares? You do. You rush in to defend Musk and attack his detractors every time, and yet nEVER acknowledge the feral shit he keeps on doing. Public Nazi salute dude.Nazi salute.Twice.Supports a neo Nazi party with Nazi roots, as does his work colleague now. Good old Vance.
Musk is actively shaping global politics for the worse. He's more than fair game.As should be his sponsors.

          • +6

@arkie0: Lol is the operative word, Doctored stills from a corrupt media and social media. Did they also endorse a neo Nazi party with roots back to the Nazi party real?
Honestly even Musk isn't walking away. He's digging deeper into it.

Just to round this off so nobody gets the wrong end of the RWNJ stick> "Misleading Material.

All of these images have been stripped of context and there is no verifiable information that these figures made a "Nazi" salute. The photos of Harris and Obama do not depict what could be understood, even insincerely, as that gesture

None of the Democratic politicians referred to have supported the prominent far-right figures that Musk has recently shown admiration of, a fact neglected from the social media posts by Libs of TikTok and others despite the claims of a double standard.

Musk has referred to the argument against him as "dirty tricks" and Newsweek is not making a judgment as to the intention behind his own gesture

The claims specifically against Obama, Harris, Clinton, or Warren are misleading because they are based on media that has been altered from its original form, either intentionally or unintentionally

FACT CHECK BY Newsweek's Fact Check team** "

          • @arkie0: Not a great example, not at all comparable.

            • @GregRust: I wasn't saying if he was or wasn't doing a nazi salute, my point is corrupt media and social media on both sides to try to influence the narrative.

Not sure why one side of the corrupt media is better than the other side of the corrupt media.

              • -4

                @arkie0:

                doing a nazi salute

                Generic digression:

                What exactly is that?
"Nazi salute", the salute used by the National Socialism (Nationalsozialismus) political party dismembered and disbanded in 1945?

Or are we talking about **the Roman salute … the HAIL CAESAR !!! ** thingy?

Embarrassing how most our society is stuck in the past.
Perhaps comparable to the MacArthur era of: you are a communist! Embarrassing. And sad.

                /end

                • @LFO: and totally ignore the Musk Vance push to get the AfD more votes in Germany of all places. Pretty easy to spot the apologists.Always looking for an escape route for the perps.

      • +11

Pretty sure Ford and Mitsubishi CEOs aren't currently sending out their love with a Roman salute or supporting AfD, which is a pretty substantial difference.

But you go on posturing about trivialities like hand gestures, while apparenly clueless about the real crimes. RFK jr just got confirmed FFS!

                  • -2

@bargaino: And you think Musk is not a threat? Not a main player? You have defended him (often) Why? Tesla owner with a guilt complex? Just a fan?
Do you not think Trump asked his opinion on Kennedy? Got the nod.Do you not think Musk is removing all those who threaten HIS ideology? Mate, Trump and Musk are the same swamp.Musk is weilding an idelogical scalpel, and laying (after buying it) out the red carpet for the whacko anti vaxxer making America stupid (and sicker) again.
AfD is not an urban choir, and the VP openly barracks for them. I'd say Musk has more of Trumps ear that he does, and he's actively supporting AfD. I wonder if they take crypto donations?

                    • +3

@Protractor: Please stop the strawmen. Must is scary as hell to me. Why put words in other people's mouths?
I'm a fan of SpaceX, in the same way I also think the Saturn V was awesome, despite being designed by Von Braun, an actual Nazi. Can you see how it is possible to separate those things?

Do you not think Trump asked his opinion on Kennedy?

I've no idea. Do you have any informed insight?

As far as Tesla goes, the best thing Musk could do now is to step down from all roles. They no longer need him.
Musk has an impressive history of building ruthless but effective cost-cutting teams, but in engineering environments. I would assign his people to cut costs in military supply, not the State Department. Does that help clarify?

                      • @bargaino: Nope not really. It does not clarify the multiple times you have stepped in and defended him in multiple posts.

Musk is a self induced target, despite the technical achievements he has used the notoriety to expose who he really is. Not by mistake. He's giving a voice to an ideology the rest of society have chosen to (almost unanimously) assign to Pariah status for all time. It's not rocket science.
He is up for as much scrutiny as he can possibly get. He wanted it , he can't cherry pick the focus.

You don't need any insight into what's going on in Musks (Trumps, & the actual world) world. His ego hangs it all out to dry. Musk is there to eviscerate any opposition to their agenda. Even an independent judiciary when he gets to it.Wherever they are it has been made clear they are coming for them.

                                  • @bargaino: I'm not attacking motives mate,I'm highlighting a modus operandi. Musks and now clearly yours.

OK, if you actually can name the CEOs of Toyota, Ford, etc and bought your own car after checking the politics of the company owners, then I retract.

Oh boy, I was waiting for this comment.

The reason you can't name those CEO's is because they aren't blasting everyone with their personal beliefs and building a cult.

People didn't buy Tesla's in the early days, they bought the cult of Elon.

And now you are all "hur dur don't buy a car because of the owner".

    • Nazi’s like Mercedes not Tesla.

      • Not anymore.

        • Are you speaking from experience?

    • +1

It's such a shame that this comment gets so many upvotes when it seems like the sentiment is "You can't buy a Tesla without tacitly supporting Elon, so don't complain when it ends up getting keyed or vandalised".

It's a radical approach to trying to cut down Elon; cut down his customers, despite the fact that the vast majority of Teslas on the road were sold before he went nuts. But that's irrelevant, we can't reach Elon directly, so let's damage innocent people's property instead.

    • -6

I see a lot of insults and anger towards Musk, people getting very emotional and hating anyone who doesn't agree with them, but no hard facts and evidence as to what Musk is doing that's so terribly wrong and harmful vs any good that he is doing.

      • Apparently Musk is implementing an ideology. Not sure what, still waiting for the crazies to explain that one.

Peace of mind that it has been checked by Tesla.

    What exactly have the checked?

    • +26

      What exactly have they checked?

A: That the payment went through and has been deposited in the appropriate Cayman Is. account.

    • does it have 4 wheels?

      • +1

Thats all they pay for when you trade in a Tesla. ….
They have one of the highest levels of depreciation right now.

Recently a friend was hoping to get $30,000 but only got $20,000 for a 4 year old Tesla.

Dealers dont want to trade them.
In the US car rental companies are stuck with thousands of Teslas because nobody wants to rent them.
So now they are trying to offload them.(unsuccessfully)

If you really want a used Tesla its best to buy privately and reap the benefits
Take note of the valuation I mentioned above

Or consider MG EV or Hybrid (even better) which is much cheaper brand new and comes with 10 year warranty

        • +1

That is not what Tesla owners are telling us!

I still remember that infamous spreadsheet where a Tesla model 3 is cheaper over 3 years than a hybrid camry. Conveniently leaving out cost of tires, servicing (even if you haven't paid in cash you should include consumption) and also the high retained value (now we know it doesn't defy gravity after all).

People just deluding themselves when they thought Tesla was going to some how defy everything we have known (cars depreciate). Especially considering with each year even if they do OTA the cars are not going to improve in leaps and bounds. Sure they had their iphone to iphone x moments but they're going to iphone XR territory where people start questioning whether they need to update every 2 or 3 years.

Just wait until the novated lease crew starts to end their leases. I think there will be more tears.

          • +10

@netjock: They have depreciated purely because the price of a new Tesla has fallen by over a third in the last four years (that is also, BTW, the reason Hertz got their fingers burnt by Tesla - at the time they bought them Musk openly boasted that he suckered them into paying full price with no fleet discount).

It is NOT that no-one wants them, and they are better cars than ever. It is just that they are facing crushing competition from the Chinese (especially inside China, the source of most of their profits until the last couple of years) and have been forced to slash prices.

          • +1

@netjock: Is there another spreadsheet or are you referring to my novated lease one?

          • -1

@netjock: Times have changed, during COVID when supply chains we're disrupted the price of cars was detached from reality, Tesla's were holding their value.

Currently, competition is heating up, newer better models are coming out at lower prices. And no matter how you feel about Elon and Tesla, the fact is it's having an impact. Demand is dropping, cars are coming off leases with market values less than calculated at inception. And there is currently an increased risk of vandalism. The cost of insurance is definitely rising.

I was considering the new model Y as our next car purchase, I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole now. Unless Elon sells his interest in Tesla, it's future is uncertain

The standard blurb of 'Our 102 point checklist' which is always dubious but taking solace in the fact that they would know their car better as compared to buying it from a second-hand dealer that gets 1 ev in 6 months.

It’s pretty interesting they check 102 aspects yet tell owners there’s no maintenance whatsoever required (from what I heard).

So is there things to look out for that doesn’t need looking out for while you own the car?
