Somehow managed to grab one a few minutes after the deal went live (order details say 10:06am). First order had $15 shipping which I cancelled, and I was able to buy it again with free shipping. Was a bit buggy but the payment went through.

    • +2

Same experience although I was ready with item in cart before promo began.. managed to get one for $200 at 10:02 as per eBay purchases page. Order still showing as Paid (Not cancelled).

I spotted delivery charge (as defaulted) before pressing Pay with PayPal button and quickly selected the free delivery option. Paid via PayPal (with 2FA which took a good minute) and eBay generated error on first "Place Order" button press. Re-confirmed $200 order total and pressed "Place Order" button again and it generated the confirmation page. Took 4 minutes to get confirmation email at 10:06am. As at 11:45am it is still showing as Paid and only a single charge to my card through PayPal so upvoting this deal.

      • As at 1pm, Sydney Mobiles sent tax invoice too. Guess the order is going to be honoured. Happy I got this deal. Never managed to score something as popular as this. Feels like I won the lottery despite of paying $200 for it. Lolz.

[eBay Plus] Motorola Edge 50 Neo 12GB RAM/256GB Storage $200 Delivered @ Sydney Mobiles eBay

    • When I got to the confirmation screen after checkout the price had somehow changed to $214.99

    • To make it even worse I was actually charged $214.99 twice so $429.98 in total.

    • There is no sign of the purchase anywhere in my account and I didn't receive an email confirmation so I'm guessing I won't even get the phone?

    Thanks for nothing eBay!

    • +2

For some reason shipping defaulted to express for $14.99, you had to click on free postage option to make it down to $200.

      • They must have made changes just as I placed the order as my screenshot of the checkout page shows free postage and order total as $200, but even then I don't understand why they charged me twice or why the order doesn't even appear in my account.

      • Even clicking on free shipping option kept the $15 there for me.

Payment failed also even tho I received order confirmation. Oh well. Pretty awful system.

  • I bought one at 10.02 . Did not go through first time I tried to buy, got some listing error message which I assumed related to available stock. Checked listing and seemed to have stock so just clicked buy or try again button and it went through. Paid by paypal, free postage, confirmation from both ebay and paypal. Nothing yet from Sydney mobiles. Still showing in ebay as purchased for $200.

If I end up getting one then it will be pure luck because at 10.02 it probably should have been sold out. Could just as easily still be cancelled as if it was oversold it could take Sydney Mobiles a while to sort it out.

Sounds like early buyers didn't get it and none of the early buyers tried again because they had an order confirmation. The OP did tell us "The ones who wait are the ones who WIN"

      • Yeah, I feel the same! I almost placed the order at 10:00 AM but didn’t go through with it since it showed mid-January for delivery. Then, I checked again randomly around 10:10 AM, and the ETA had changed to December 2-3. I was able to place the order, it was on 'payment processing' for a minute or so, eventually got the confirmation email!

      • I think this comment nailed it. Those that were early (on time) lost.

      • Yep, happen to me. Initially failed and I didn't try again.

      • +1

I know OP meant waiting for this deal as opposed to buying before at $3xx but this looks sus now like they knew they would cancel initial orders lol

    • What's the estimated delivery date?

    • Exactly same experience

  • I got one but pre-guessed the code. Assuming lots of people did that too.

  • +8

Seller refused payment. Scam. Waste of time and unnecessary stress.

    • +4

      Sue for emotional distress 🤓

      • Yes, scammed of emotions. Suing is the correct route.

  • +7

Get it between Mon, 2 Dec and Tue, 3 Dec to 3108 if you pay $700 apparently, but late Jan 2025 is you paid $200.

10:01 I had my order done on ebay website - I noticed the shipping thing and selected free shipping. Didn't pay attention to the dates listed though.

However I failed to notice the payment failure email and only seeing it now after going through the comments here.

  • Managed to get one. Order placed at 10:01. Paid $200 using CBA prepaid card.
Received pdf invoice from seller. Now waiting for delivery, whenever that may be.

    • whats a CBA prepaid card?

      • +1

Sorry, meant to type CBA Travel card. It is a prepaid card where you can load different currency

  • Got one.
Took a while for payment to process.

  • +5

With enough complaints to ACCC they may start investigating eBay deceptive business practices.

  • Well one of our orders was successful (invoice received), one had the payment error email.

Mrs definitely got her order in just before mine, but she got the email, I got a successful order. Strange

  • +7

Same. Confirmation, then removed completely with no trace of the purchase in my eBay app, email, or bank statement…

    • removed completely with no trace of the purchase in my eBay app, email

i dont like this dodgy practice

  • +3

I managed to score one with free shipping. I guess it helps to have your card saved.

    • +1

My card was saved but payment failed. Disappeared from account completely.

  • Has anyone reached out to the seller or eBay customer service about the payment failure issue? If so, what was their response?

    • +7

i've been waiting in the ebay chat queue for over 2 hours that said the estimate wait was 12 minutes.
ebay customer service are probably hiding in the corner and weeping as they are attacked by wave-upon-wave of relentless ozbargain professionals demanding their $200 phone.

      • as all of us who got stuffed up should do

    • emailed seller but no response yet. don't they have 2 busn days?

    • +1

I reached out for support over chat. I wanted to know if there was an issue with my payment method as I used gift cards and was concerned about that first and foremost. I also wanted to understand how/why this happened - eg. who's fault.

Here's what the chat agent said:

"the deals was for limited quantity only and at time of your payment process the item was sold out and which is the only reason the payment got sold out and you receive message of payment failed."

I pressed them on when specifically (a timestamp) the last item was sold, and they couldn't (wouldn't?) tell me. They said that the seller had added more to listing and it made it hard to tell when the last one was sold out, and how that matched when I purchased it.

What I don't like about this is that it seems that many others were able to complete a purchase after the time I did it.

I waited for the split second 10am arrived and refreshed the listing. The deal did not show up immediately, but I think by about 10:00:20 seconds the deal showed with the right code. I quickly pasted in the gift card code, typed in the deal promo code, and made the purchase. I can't see how this would have been later than 10:01:00. More than likely would have been 10 - 15 seconds faster than that.

Confirmation message appeared, and I went off and did some other things.

An hour ago I noticed the email. 10:04am receipt in my inbox advising "Your payment didn’t go through. Let’s try again "and "It looks like there was an issue completing your purchase. Please try purchasing again".

Listing shows 664 sold before out of stock.

It seems to me that this wasn't an out of stock issue at the time I paid for it, but rather some eBay issue that cancelled the orders. Others seem to have been able to successfully purchase the phone after the time I purchased it. eBay are trying to suggest that during the payment, there's no check for stock before the order confirms to the end user (which is how you'd design the payment workflow). Instead, it processes the payment, submits and order confirmation, and then checks stock….lacks logic if that's how it really works.

      • It was 100% eBay issue. First attempt failed for me too but second went through at 10:02. Thankfully I was not double charged.

        • So, just to clarify, the order wasn’t cancelled after the first failed attempt?

      • +1

If the payment failure was due to the item being sold out, it doesn't explain why others were able to successfully complete their purchases after mine. I've already messaged the seller but haven't received a response yet.

  • +4

    What an almighty cock up.
There have been a few on OzBargain in the past, but this is one of the biggest I've seen

  • +4

payment went through for me but then sale didn't go through. Just commenting so I can Neg the deal lol

  • +7

Order cancelled due to payment error after order confirmation. Surely a scam!

  • 10;03 Confirmation using afterpay then back to eBay for confirmation then order cancelled.

  • payment not going though, WTF!?

  • +1

Paid at 10.01am. Took a screenshot of successful order confirmation, then checked purchase history and emails…nothing there!

    • +5

      That's because you're blind Toph.

      • Her name's not Toph, her name is Melon Lord!

      • I can feel all the data packets running through my my PC and cables, thank you very much!

  • +2

Had it in cart and on the checkout screen before 10am. Once code appeared, added it and attempted to order… got a red notice "Seller has changed item" or something like that. It still showed it in my cart with the $200 price. So clicked the order again and after a good 30 seconds, went through.
Have confirmation email and has a 'awaiting postage' message in My Ebay. Paid via Debit Card. Est delivery, 16th Jan.

  • +3

Original description does say WIN, this should've been placed in the competitions section instead of the deal section haha

  • +7

Anyone charged the $14.99 "express" postage fee should have that refunded.
One of the perks of being an eBay Plus member is free express shipping on all eBay Plus seller items.
Messaging live chat should get that resolved.

    • +1

      Trying this now

      • same

      • Is there a url to take you straight to the live chat?through the app it keeps booting me out

        • +1

I am doing this on the website through https://www.ebay.com.au/help

        • +2

They are hopeless. Saying that this is not an eBay plus item even though its obviously is. Now they are escalating to specialised team for my case. Complete waste of time to deal with the customer service

    • Use this screenshot if that'd be a help.
I got express shipping for for free

      https://ibb.co/NTTVf1P

    • Got this response from eBay support:
"Allow me to inform I assure you that this postage charge will be refunded back, However to get this refunded I will have to escalate this to the relevant department, hence I request you to wait for next 24-48 hours. I will personally send you email once this is resolved for you."

  • +2

order confirmation email from the store themselves has finally touched down. huzzah. so fear not those who are 'awaiting postage'.

    • +1

Yes I got the same. I paid for express (accidentally) so hopefully all is good.

    • +1

I can't wait, express post that takes until mid January

      • +1

        hoping thats an inaccurate guesstimate…

    • Original listing includes
      "Same Business Day Dispatch"
      and
"Free delivery in 1-2 days. Get it between Mon, 2 Dec and Tue, 3 Dec to 3…"

      • hopefully that still applies when they have a disproportionate amount of orders

  • +1

    Hi, All.
I got an email containing an invoice(Pdf file) from the seller.
Does that mean order is confirmed?

    • +1

Same .. I guess so. Invoice means it's being sent.

  • +2

For someone who was successful with their purchase, could anyone post a screenshot (private details blurred out) showing ebay, seller name, and price of $200 for price protection claim. I logged in at 10.04 or so but obviously all sold out. So clue to get proof of that price.

    Thanks

  • -1

    This is a superb deal
    $200 phone
    Invoice is $697 (gst $63)
If we claim TRS = $137 phone

    • -1

Err… Donno what your TRS is. The one I go to get refund is based on billed amount. And item cost must be over $300. So technically this purchase isn't valid for claiming as it's $200.

      • +1

The tax invoice they've sent out isn't showing the discounted price, it's showing $697.99.

    • +2

      TRS = $137
      Jail for fraud = priceless

      • +5

        Subtotal $697.99
        Shipping & Handling $0.00
        GST $63.45
        Grand Total $697.99

        Who’s frauding?
Thats what they provided on the official tax invoice with their ABN

        • I think he's informing you that the whole thing about TRS refund is that you're not then meant to bring it back items you've claimed under the TRS scheme back into the country. I think a lot of people don't know that. Question 3 on the incoming passenger card.

In short, the scheme is for tourists to get back tax paid on items they're going to use overseas, not for citizens to claim tax back on items they're going to bring back into Aus and use at home

          • +2

@jay889344: You can if it is within your allowance of $900 /adult.
Also they allow you to combine the allowance if your family travelling together

          • -1

@jay889344: That's completely untrue. You can bring the item back, you just have to declare it and its value. Just like if you'd bought the item overseas and were bringing it home with you.

            • @crikey: No its not. Why do you think you have to declare it if you bring it back in? The intent is that if you get the tax refunded to you on departure, you declare it when you bring it back in on arrival and depending on value, you could be ineligible to keep the value of the tax refund you received at departure. If you don't, you're technically commiting tax fraud and breaking various laws relating to customs

        • Copied from website

Declare any goods you bring back to Australia, for which a TRS claim was made by you or another person when the goods left Australia.

On returning to Australia, you must declare the goods at Question 3 on your Incoming Passenger Card (IPC)

Penalties may apply if you fail to declare these items

If you bring goods back into Australia for which a GST refund via the TRS has been claimed, the goods must be declared, and if the value of those goods (combined with any other overseas/duty free purchases) exceeds the passenger concession allowance, any applicable GST and/or duty may need to be paid unless another concession (example, all personal clothing – except furs) is available.

Kinda vague on what happens on duty concession allowance.

  • Hello Moto?

      • heh .. I'm trying to convince myself that the moto G54 I got a month or so ago from Amaysim for $9 was a better deal than this one

  • +3

Got the confirmation email from Sydney Mobiles.

    https://ibb.co/KLfd33c

  • +6

Obviously a scam for eBay to get money for eBay Plus.

  • what a drama lol

    • +2

haha yeah, I failed to realise how roused up ozbargainers can get before

  • +4

It under "unpaid items" in ebay if you cannot find your order

    dogs.

  • +12

Let us refer to this in the future as BFMOTOGATE

  • +6

My order gone through at 10:02 but payment didn’t go through and eventually it disappeared from my purchase. There are others whose orders are confirmed even at 10:05. Dodgy eBay and seller.

Probably had only 5 in stock for $200. Wouldn’t by from Sydney Mobiles again. They should have mentioned only 5 are sold at $200.

    • +3

Pretty sure this is an eBay stuff up, not the seller

        • +2

Is it also eBay's fault that the delivery time was extended to 21st of Jan and delivery fees increased to $14.99? I don't think so.
