Negging the deal if you received confirmation of purchase from eBay that was then reneged by eBay is completely fair.

      • +2

No one is "negging the deal because you didn't get it in time"
We're negging the deal because we DID get it in time. I checked out 20 secs past 10. Other people here are confirming they got it after 10:07 and they received the confirmation.

      • +2

May I ask how you knew about the deal without being associated with the company?

        • Perhaps in on the scam.

    • +4

that's completely dumb, it wasn't sold out!
There was an issue in the order processing.
Advertising a deal that they cannot handle is more or less a scam, especially that they benefit from it (ebay plus subs).

    • +1

Actually the problem seems to be that eBay kept taking orders after stock allocation exhausted.

There was still stock after my order - but they did try taking payment for my order until minutes later when there was no stock.

I got on screen confirmation of order success with an order number - which is now not visible in my eBay

The problem is not missing out - the problem is getting success confirmation - then cancellation minutes later because they delayed taking payment.

  • +7

I reported the listing and stated I will be reporting this to Fair Trading/ACCC - who's with me lol

    • -8

On what basis? You were too slow?

      • -1

I ordered with a successful payment notice within the first few seconds. Was in the first 30 orders to go through. I received the failed notice 5 mins after the sucessful payment notice. It was a false promotion, was misleading regarding the stock that was available, falls well within the bait-and-switch criteria, etc.
        C',mon.
Sounds like you were too slow and are just salty.

I often forget how fragile people are and how much critical thinking they lack. Thank you for the reminder and good luck on your other deals πŸ˜‚

          • @DiscountForThee: I often forget how fragile people are and how much critical thinking they lack. Thank you for the reminder and good luck with your journey on OzBargain. πŸ˜‚

            • @BargainGain: Is this you? Are you mad because you burnt your cereal? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15999894/redir

              • -1

@DiscountForThee: You're still squawking. You clearly lack the insight to understand why people are annoyed when they order a product, received notice of a successful order then get a notice with a BS reason saying it ended up being unsuccessful. Just after I had completed the order it said more than 10 in stock.
I know exactly who you were at school - the kid who had nothing but laughed at others misfortune.

                • @BargainGain: But now you're the kid with no cheap Edge 50 Neo, and the guy you're replying to is living large enjoying his cheap phone deal.

Take a minute to touch some grass fellow OzBargainer, there will be more deals to come today.

                • @BargainGain: Wow, you really lack critical thinking about this deal! Maybe try calling Albo, surely he'd be relevant to this situation

      • on the basis of confirmed orders being cancelled due to their broken system

it's pretty simple to reduce stock by one before showing order confirmation number

        • it's pretty simple to reduce stock by one before showing order confirmation number

I guess that's why eBay, a small time indie startup company, with no experience in this space, struggled? This is such an easy concept to deploy that it'd never happen with an actual company right? Thanks for letting us know how easy it is bro

    • how do we do the reporting to ACCC?

  • +5

Like a lot of you my First order with an extra $15 did not process correctly,
The second one with free shipping failed,
The third one went through but then changed back to $698 after checking out.
Attempting to make a new order before cancelling the third attempt yielded with a "This coupon has already been used by this account".

    10/10 Thanks eBay

  • +14

Getting trolled with order confirmation page was a nice touch

    • +1

I keep refreshing to ensure I don't get trolled :)

  • +2

    ScamBay Mobiles strikes again.

  • +1

    Scam

  • +2

Got one, waited to see if payment went through before getting my hopes up. Can't believe little old me was able to snatch one! Had everything ready but eBay glitched as expected and had to return to item page, then to cart, then change payment option again, then checkout.

  • +10

WTF, had a confirmed order and then nothing came out of the cc , and then come with
    "This order was not successful
Order cost has not been included in the total amount."

Been holding my shit so tight after having coffee since 9:50 and dint even win. Im gonna go for 1 hour toilet break now

    • hehehe..dont worry… probably this phone will drop soon

      • Hope you already dropped your shit @Jam92

        • Ye in the toilet now, gonna stay here until 11:30, then take another 1 hour for lunch.. lol

      • ye, im sure. I really thought i had it as I got the order confirmation, that's what pissed me . If it had been you're too late sold , ok that fair..

  • I used the code to buy 2 why it coming up AU $912.98? Any ideas

    • +3

      Applicable for only 1 item.

      • got you, now need to cancel 1

    • +1

Could only buy one for $200 so $697.99+200+14.99(shipping) = 912.98

      • damn so need to cacel 1, as no way to check the price when confirm payment otherwise it gone for good.

  • +3

what a scam, clicked on it at 10am, processed everything by 10.02.
gave me order details and finalised, only to find out payment didn't go through,
there is no way payment cannot go through, it works all other times. and since code is used
it won't let me back in to use again.

    • +1

Same issue for me. Purchased and paid exactly @10am then received failed payment email.

Anyway I have lodged a case with eBay and they will investigate…

  • Credit card payment failed after going through.

  • +1

Oh also I purchased a month of eBay plus to be able to access the deal… coincidence?

    • +1

ebay earns $4.99 x number of suckers :)

  • -1

Someone buy one for full price to see if it was a scam lol

  • Paid with Apple Pay, not cancelled yet, fingers crossed :)

  • Thanks OP, got 10 1

  • +2

Great post, reading the ozbargain hate comments well worth it. Fun to see ozbargain have the power to break a deal.

  • +15

SCAM!! Possibly the government is involved here too. To top it off, I was late to work because of this fiasco and was fired from my job. I'll NEVER use eBay again and the internet for that matter until the next deal comes up.

  • +4

who is at fault here? ebay or the seller?

    • +2

Probably both. eBay overloading and the vendor adding postage.

  • +8

25,000 attempt to buy a deal simultaneously from a small business, 24,500 fail and cry scam… haha

    • 21 billion dollar business is small?
      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/EBay

    • +1

It shouldn't let you place order if sold amount is exceeded. Not accept payment at first and the spit out a nonsense about Payment failed

    • +2

      Neg this.

Firstly where did you get 25000 number from?

Secondly, they sell via eBay which is a well established platform to handle large concurrent transactions.

Last but not least, what are you laughing at?

      • -4

Lighten up for crying out loud, it's the internet. I didn't do a burn out on your lawn or personally not give you a phone that you don't actually really need.

  • +3

lol don't tell me you guys are surprised

  • +3

    Classic Bait and Switch.

  • Thanks OP, got one. Paid by CC and paid the postage bribe.

  • +6

I don't think it was an intentional scam.
Probably the person handling the deal is dumb af and messed up some settings.
When I first try to check out, it failed, mentioning that the seller has changed something in the listing.
Also, the default shipping method was the paid one so we had to change it manually. It never happened to me on ebay.
I checked again and it went through, then I got the payment issue after the order was confirmed (my second order was less than a min past 10)
Probably mixture of stupidity, scams, and ebay/payment server issues.

  • +2

I just received a reply from eBay Chat when I asked them why my payment failed for this order, here is their reply:

"XXXXXX, I have checked the payment attempt made for this item. Upon checking the details, I could see you were trying pay for this item with coupon code. The coupon code got applied however by the time you tried to pay for the item and entered the payment details, the item got out of stock. This means other buyers completely their checkout faster. Now the item got out of stock, the payment failed which is the reason why the funds were never deducted and transaction became unsuccessful."

    • +3

complete BS, I checked out ~20 seconds past 10.
The listing was in stock few more mins after that.

    • +3

      This is bullshit.

      this is my order details

Time placed 29 Nov 2024 at 10:00 AM
      Order number 25-12367-xxxxx

Many people got the confirmation even when they placed order after 10:05

    • +1

I call BS on that. After I purchased the listing showed 200-something had sold. My payment failed some time later, and the number of sold items kept going up. No way it was out of stock when I completed the purchase.

  • +5

WOAH. I got a confirmation email:

    <Name>,

Thank you for your order from Sydney Mobiles. Once your package ships we will send you a tracking number.

If you have questions about your order, you can email us at [email protected].

    Your Order #SM-6000069xxx

    • +3

      negged for pure jealousy

      • +1

If it helps. I'm still in forever pain of paying the $14.99 postage.

        • +1

Thanks, that does help me feel better

    • +1

Insert Congrats, happy for you meme

    • +1

I'm waiting for mine. Credit card already charged and no cancellation email received.

    • Yeh I go tthis too. Freake dme out a bit that it was for the full amount, but I checked my card and only shows $200, not $697.99.
So looks like it worked for me too.

  • +1

Look at it this way, we saved $200

Looks like I'll be buying an AliExpress screen and fixing my daughters phone myself lol

  • -3

Number of people who didn't get one ————————————————->>

    • Do i give a positive vote or negative vote if i got one?

  • +6

spoke to ebay on the phone, apparently they are getting a few calls about this deal. haha

    • What did they say? Haha

      • +4

They said to all those butthurt who are calling you were waaay too late in purchasing πŸ€£πŸ’€

        • πŸ˜‚ way too late!
As in you ordered at 10:00.2am instaed of 10:00.1am πŸ₯² hahaha

          • @Ohm Breaker: Honestly that is quite true last time i purchased a delonghi Latissima one? Several years ago with a deal similar to this and i'm quite sure the same thing happened orders cancelled etc… I got that deal within 10 seconds.

        • Yeh definitely not true. I bought a minute after someone and I got it confirmed but they got the payment failed email

        • We got a confirmation message that our orders were completed though (ie. ebay agreed to sell us the phone at that price, accepted our payment and everything was ok)
A "payment failed" message later would be ok if the payment actually failed, but my payment method was good. There was no reason for it to fail.

      • not much, guy said they are getting a few calls about this order, he said hell get back to me in 24 hours. but i already know the answer is going to be "it was a limited promotion" and nothing they can do about it.

  • +3

Said order successful - then got an email 5 mins later asking for payment.
Paid using Paypal which is syn with Ebay

    • Said order successful - then got an email 5 mins later asking for payment.
      Paid using Paypal

How can you order successful but didn't pay at the same time?

      • Said order confirmed, thanks - sent confirmation email to ….
        and then saved 497.99..

        Didnt get confirmation email.
        But instead….
Just got email saying: looks like there was an issue completing your purchase. Please try purchasing again

  • 10:01.. order went through successfully but then received email "Payment didn't go through. Let'stry again" Boo.

  • Just received my Order confirmation with Invoice (PDF)

  • +4

Chat with eBay. Apparently there was only a few handsets. I thought you needed quite a few to run something like this.

    • -2

What would make you think that? Did it state there would be minimum 1000 at said price?

If i was able to get one 30 seconds in there couldn't have been that little

      • My order went through within 10 seconds. Not kidding. Some backend delay perhaps.

      • +1

I remember looking at the original post on eBay and they had around 80 sales before the event. five minutes after the event around 600 sales, so I think there's quite a few units

    • +1

I think that's a key point. They should disclose how many are available.

  • It's times like these that I'm happy with my $12 Woolworth's Nokia.
