I had a look at the manual. It does mention that you can select either the phone mic or the device mic.

I bought one today. One of the modes has a dancing man that responds to sound. It definitely has a mic. That's with no app connected.

Not to be too paranoid but - this has a microphone in it. Has anyone checked to see if the app makes any weird connections?
