Very good deal for officially brand new stock, Considering previous ‘refurbished’ (brand new sealed stock) bambino went for 296 in previous ebay sale.

The Bambino Plus is an incredibly capable and - dare I say it - reliable espresso machine. Some may label it a "starter", but it really punches well above its weight. A few years in and I am in no rush to upgrade mine.

Amazing to see it down at this price range again.

    • Just bought one recently and interested to know, do you use the dual wall or single wall basket or did you buy aftermarket?

      • +2

By dual wall do you mean the pressurised basket? If so, then use that if you don't have a grinder and are buying pre-ground coffee. If you have a grinder then you should be using the normal basket. The breville ones are actually pretty good so probably no need to get an aftermarket one.

      • I've had the plus for a couple of years now and used the supplied single wall basket for ages. The dual wall basket is only for if you're using pre ground coffee.
I only recently bought an aftermarket because I wanted to try a bottomless portafilter. Otherwise I think the single wall basket was good enough.

        • Which bottomless portafilter did you get for your Bambino Plus, and do you recommend it? I'm thinking of trying one getting one myself

          • +2

@kacak: I got a nice wood handle one from Ali Express 2 years ago for $22. No complaints. Use it daily.
Got another just recently from Temu (same price with allegedly 55% Cashback). Equally as good. All chrome plated, and the coffee only touches the basket. So won't be any dodgey lead poisoning/ metal issues.

          • +1

@kacak: I got a cheapish rosewood bottomless portafilter from Amazon for about $35 for the actual extraction with stock breville single wall basket. You can get the same one for about $20 if willing to wait.

I use the stock breville portafilter with stock dual basket to warm up the group head. With the bottomless portafilter in a warmed up in a cup full of boiling water on the side. Its important to have a warm grouphead and warm portafilter, it helps to extract good espresso.

The stock breville baskets are decent quality so no need to replace them.

I grind the fresh beans into the warmed up bottomless portafilter and start extracting. I use extraction timings as a guide and taste test to fine tune timings.

Im not a coffee expert but i know enough between a sour, sweet, and bitter extraction.

            • @voo123: Can i ask why not use the bottomless portafilter only for preheating both the groupset and the basket/holder itself?

          • +2

@kacak: Got this one for about $45. Clearly there are cheaper options out there, but I didn't ask OzB community at the time!
            https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BR7RNSDB
It looks really nice and does what it says it does. But I'm not sure that I'd go for a bottomless portafilter again, I'm still trying to figure out how not to get it spitting. Can get messy.

            • +1

@ozbloke2: Thanks @ozbloke2, as you said not sure if I want to deal with “issues” from the flow through a bottomless. To be honest, I’ve been happy with the taste after dialling in my beans. But the videos of a perfect pour do look so nice though 😀

      • Bought the pesado 18g single walled (non-pressurised) basket
        Breville smart grinder

Beans from coffee roasters (never supermarket); you know they are good when the beans only have a ~1 month best-before rather than 1 year from the roast date

        • I've never even looked to see if there's a "best before" date on beans.

Just look for a roast date.

          • -1

@rumblytangara: Yep, roast date is the all important factor. Beans are at maximum flavour between 1-4 weeks after roast date. You can freeze beans to ‘stall’ its expiry from roast date.

        • I believe the Aldi Lazzio beans have the roast date printed on the pack. Depending on stock you can sometimes find them 1-2 weeks after roast date.

    • Agree! I’ve got two of them! Have a wonderful under warranty, but it was caught in fishing process, even though I was in regional Queensland

This code worked for me fine, but for some reason I couldn't use debit/credit card to pay as it kept refusing the order. Eventually I chose PayPal and it finally submitted.

    • +1

Same deal for me, had to use paypal.

  • Bought the non plus, as i like to froth my own milk

    • +1

The plus has a 3 way valve, I would get the plus even if I froth my own milk

      • i thought it was a 4 way valve, is this a new change?

      • No sure why you got neg, some moron here really have no idea how 3 way solenoid valve works, I got one of those comments before too….

Bought a plus used from marketplace, not sure if it was me or just the machine, but I could not get a consistent shot for the life of me.

Tried every trick in the book, bought a nice manual grinder specifically for espresso with heaps of steps, used a bottomless portafilter, tried freshly roasted and supermarket beans, weighted each shot to the 0.1g….. no go.

Not buying coffee machines from marketplace ever again.

    • Consistency depends on many factors. Grinder, tamping, freshness of beans, dose. Have you tried a reputable grinder?

      • Was using a 1Zpresso JX-Pro Hand Grinder, pretty reputable… Also was using a wdt tool.

  • +1

Brilliant price. The plus is awesome if you don't care too much about milk frothing being 100% perfect. Set and forget while you do other things in the kitchen.

  • Seeing all these deals for Breville gear, but nothing for the Aquastation. Was hoping to see that drop to $400-ish.

  • +1

damn - seems to be out of stock on the breville website

    • Thanks, looks like Bambino Plus is OOS. Bambino still available.

      • +1

stainless steel Bambino Plus is OOS.
        Black Truffle is still available

        • Updated, cheers

  • +1

Last time I saw this price level was 2022 march, which I posted a deal.

So mine is now 2.5 years old, time to replace or stock as spare? Anyone had theirs longer than 3 years and still working?

I ask cos I don’t see it at this price level anytime soon again.

    • +5

Wow, we've really been taught to expect disposable appliances if people expect coffee makers to blow up after 3 years.

      • It really depends on your luck, if you are in the breville group, you will see how people complain their machine breaks and RMA multiple times, happen to all model, from Bambino to Oracle Touch.

I simply want to know if there are many failures at the three year mark, if so then now seems a good price to stock a spare.

        • I guess it depends on usage rather than time, some might break within a year if you serve coffee daily for families vs only yourself. Literally anything anyway.

  • What is the difference between Bambino and Bambino Plus?

    • Bambino plus has 3 way solenoid and keeps your puck dry, automatic Mille steamer with temperature and foam control.

  • +1

Very good price for both. I have the plus and it is a huge step up from the old Aeropress. Still learning the ins-and-outs, but really does make some great coffee. Paired with a DF54 grinder. I do recommend getting an aftermarket tamper though. The Breville one is a bit on the cheap side.

  • Great deal, thanks! Also, cashrewards has 8% cashback on breville atm

    • Cashback might be ineligible because of the coupon code used

    • This code is not on Cashrewards so if you apply it on checkout, it’s likely you won’t get the cash back.

  • Great deal. Annoyingly paid 379 at jb few days ago for bambino

    • You could buy this and return to JB to save the ~$60 if it's not much of a hassle

  • +1

Thanks OP. Been eyeing on this for a while. Not sure if the cashrewards will stack but you never know…

Been waiting a while for a deal on this. Thanks OP

Fantastic compact machines that pull great shots with the right beans and grind settings. Paired with a tweaked Breville Smart Grinder Pro it's a rock solid mid tier set up.

The thermal system it has allows instance use, you don't need to wait for the machine to heat up.

Paid around the $499 mark for the Bambino Plus via a Good Guys special in 2022.

The drip tray on the Plus isn't deep and must be emptied after 3 or so coffees, probably the only obvious downside to the machine but can be worked around with some attention.

You are prompted for various maintenance modes(descaling, etc) via the button panels which can get in the way but I believe can be manually overriden.

    Great deal!

    • +1

The drip tray leak for some version when using the pressurised basket, not with the signal wall. Not sure if yours had this fixed.

The descaling warning you can ignore but button 1 and 3 will keep blinking every time you power up. Clean warning you can’t bypass, at least not the model in the past few years.

If you are in east coast, the gang in breville group say you can just use water to get through the descaling cycle and actual descales every quarter as our water is soft. Cleaning cycles I only put tablet in every two cleaning cycle as half my brew was to warm up the group head portafilter

  • Is this worth upgrading too from the similarly shaped smegs?

  • My dual boiler is on its last leg, had it for 8 years, i only drink espresso (i.e. don't need much milk frothing other than guests), is this a good option?

    • Dual boiler give you much more control of your shot. If you are anal of how you espresso come out, I suggest to get a dual boiler replacement.

Bambino and Bambino plus while its great, there is very little control except the brewing time. It is design for people who want a quick and simple coffee and don't want to dial in too mu h option.

  • Plus is out of stock…😭

    • Still in stock…

    • Sea Salt and Black Truffle colours are still in stock

  • code is not working for me as at midday monday.

would really love the bambino plus in black to match my grinder. had an eye on these for a while. can anyone else use the code successfully?

    • +1

      Yeah not working anymore.

      • bugger! missed out.

    • +3

Try asking for a 15% off code in the chat and it'll bring the price down to $424. Better than nothing

      • oh? how exactly do i go about that? just 'hey, give discount?' or do i have to say some magic word?

        • +1

I just asked for a 15% off code to buy a machine and they sent me one via chat

          • @Promofinder: I tried last night and they said they are now pausing discount codes during the BF sales, YMMV.

            • +1

@Poombear: In case you can't a 15% off code via chat, there's a 10% off code at the moment: BREVFUTURE10 ($359.10 for Bambino or $449.10 for Bambino Plus).
Not amazing but better than nothing.

              • @Skumzy: “ We're so sorry, but our discount codes have currently all been claimed. However, if this is your first Breville purchase, you can still receive 10% off by creating a My Breville account. You can sign up here: https://www.breville.com/au/en/mybreville.html”

Just tried and got this above

                • @Joz: Ah wow that was quick. I guess it's the same as new account bonus anyway so at least that price is still available.

  • If anyone missed out and is after a brand new in box Bambino Plus Sea Salt for $380 in Sydney send me a message

    • I missed out on the sale and would love to buy it from you. Is it still available?
