Damn such good deal. This and the baratza grinder on sale comes to $610. Spend $40 on an autoleveling tamper, better portafilter and dosing cup and you have a great easy to use system for most people that really isn't that much harder to use then some of the very expensive stuff with integrated tamping.

Wouldn't get the plus because while the automilk kind of works it's not very good and I think most people will get fed up by it and just spend a little bit of time learning to foam the milk themselves.

You might eventually want to upgrade from the bambino but by then you would probably have made back your money with a year if you drink a coffee everyday

    • +1

Any recommendations on the auto leveling tamper, porta filter and dosing cup.

      • +4

I got this one for the portafilter, works great for the Bambino Plus.

I use this tamper, not amazing but works well enough.

        • I've got very similar (one sided) tamper from Amazon. Bambino plus, smart grinder, cheap Amazon scales. Bang for buck, awesome consistent coffee

      • +3

I use some ones from temu when they do the 50% of for new users on shopbaCk. Just need to get 54mm to fit the Breville.
For tamper there are are two varieties a distributer or the spring based one. I like the spring based one but others like the distributor one(one was posted by blazerunner) .
Dosing cup the baratza comes with one I think for the Breville portafilter.

    • +1

Agree to disagree on the automilk, I could never froth well on my Delonghi Dedica and I think it does a decent job.

Everything else you said is on point though 👍

    • +2

same thoughts. Bambino is great. skip the plus. froth yourself, it's so easy.

coffee has been fantastic and I am not even using a super good grinder.

got it refurbished from Breville eBay, for $289 during one of those rfb eBay sales. looks and works like new, full set of accessories included

    • We’ve had a Plus for over four years and it’s great. The automatic milk frother is excellent. You can do it manually if you want but I like that I can be doing other things (like preparing something to go with a coffee) while the machine does it. Plus the kids can make their own hot chocolate at the press of a button.

      • I liked the auto frothing as well but switched to the non plus model as I kept having issues with the temperature sensor malfunctioning and preventing the machine from booting.

    • Don't agree about the automilk function, bought it specifically because my wife does not have the patience or inclination to do it properly, the automilk does a great job each and every time

  • shame no deal on the aboriginal art variant :S https://www.breville.com/en-au/product/bes500?sku=BES500BSS4…

    • +2

lol.. you pay $500 more for aboriginal art.. WTF.

    • -4

wtf lol, shouldnt this be cheaper..

      • Sarcasm 😜

    • +1

tbf, the Aboriginal design looks hand-painted. Seems like a collectors edition type deal.

      • +1

do the ozbargain edition: diy replica on the stainless version 😁

i think they look great, especially the kettle and toaster oven

  • Dam it, just ordered through amazon agter getting discount gift cards. Might cancel the order and get it here

  • Seriously!! $500 for a Bambino plus? Its great, I am using one but it is not $500 great!

There must be something that is between the $500-$600ish mark that is better…. Just not sure what.

    • I don't think there is anything better. A Barista Max or La Specialista? I've taken both apart and they're not well put together.

It's got a very solid reputation, people like it, even James Hoffman likes it!

      • Gaggia Evolution? Seems people either love it or hate it….

Only if the EVO is $200 less it will be the No1 choice.

  • +4

I rate my bambino plus. love the auto milk frother, easy to use for a coffee or 2 each day and has been reliable. Have it paired with a older breville pro grinder and it works.
This is the barista pro if you want a built in grinder are good options.

  • +2

We can do better. Stay strong.

    • What price are you holding out for, if you don't mind me asking? After the Bambino plus but $450 just seems a tad too steep.

  • +1

    hey guys,

I am totally a coffee machine idiot, so would need some advise here for purchasing a machine, what would your advice please?

Delonghi Dedica Maestro @ $188 or
Breville Barista Express Espresso Machine, Black Sesame, BES870BKS @ $547?

A friend of mine mentioned for the Breville ones, a quality machine starts with Dual-Boiler and this BE870BKS is not, is the dual boiler worth the extra for a small family takes 1-2 cups max per day?

    Thanks all!

    • I think you mean the Delonghi Dedica Arte @ $188

A dual boiler is overkill if you're making that many coffees per day.

      • I think so too. thank you!

    • +3

Don’t buy a dual boiler or any ‘’oracle’’ if it’s only for 2 coffees a day (unless money isn’t a problem for you), it’s designed for people having coffee through the day as the boiler system heats 2 water container. It takes about 15 min for optimal temperature (I think there is an auto power on system but I’m not sure), as the bambino and bambino plus is a much faster thermojet (3 sec heat up). The barista express is a good start but 15min heat up and not so great steamer.

I’d recommend you to get a bambino plus for the autofrother + thermojet and get a grinder on the side like the baratza. A bit more expensive than the barista express but really worth it in the long run

      • Yes Oracle has auto power on but it can only be set to a single time. So for example "breakfast coffee". That means you have to manually turn it on for mid morning, lunch, afternoon, dinner, afternoon, bedtime and any additional coffees throughout the day.

    • Not worth it for two coffees a day. Not worth getting a grinder with hopper aswell. Better off with a single dose grinder.

    • We’re very happy with our Bambino Plus and Pro Grinder. Compact size but with space for two large cups, heats up in 3 seconds and is easy to use. Easily paid for itself in the first year of use and now a cup of coffee costs less than 80c in beans (Lime Blue) and milk.

      • I've had the exact same set up for five years, set it up once properly then great results every time

  • +5

You’re better off with a normal bambino + df 54 single dose grinder. Both items are probably considered best bang for buck in this price range. Do not get the espresso+grinder machines combined, the grinder is garbage. A dedicated grinder is more important than the espresso machine itself at the budget price range <1k.

I got the refurbished bambino in a recent sale for $296. The machine came brand new in a box folded inside out with not a single scratch on it and with plastic seals etc.

Got the df 54 for $410 from a local melbourne coffee store with ebay discount coupons. Amazon AU sells it for $399 if you wanted to save abit more. I decided to support a local seller.

Coupled with lime blue coffee beans and you can’t go wrong!

    • Where did you get the refurbished one Bambino from?

Might go that route as well.

      • +3

        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364947891814?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

$287 with ebay coupon code. Even cheaper than the last breville sale!

Edit: nvm its out of stock.

However, this posted deal for brand new is decent aswell. I wouldn’t wanna touch the free coffee though if there’s no roasting date on it.

        • Cheers, will keep an eye out for it

    • there are many reports saying DF54 is easy to clog

      • I’ve been using the df54 once a day for 2 weeks so far and haven’t experienced clogging issues. Zero retention and anti static as well. I’d imagine spraying the beans might contribute to clogs , but I havent had to spray it at all.

    • I got mine second hand from eBay and cost me $200. Going strong after 2 years. The portafilter does get jammed when it’s too filled. Or when weather changes

  • Is the Bambino a noticeable upgrade from the Delonghi Dedica?
I upgraded the steam wand to the Rancilio but I can't get the frothing right on it.

    • +1

For me, yes, I could grind finer and get better tasting coffee compared to my Dedica. Does not run out of pressure, which I found if doing 2 or more coffees in a row the dedica struggled, especially with milk frothing in the mix.

Credit to you for doing the upgrade, I am by no means a milk connoisseur but the froth on auto is better than my best manual work with the stock dedica wand.

2 and a half years and no complaints (touch wood!)

    • Haven't tried a Bambino, but I couldn't get anything decent tasting out of a Dedica if I was using a non-pressurised portafilter.

Unless there's huge variation in machine quality, I'm not sure how anyone can use Dedicas without the pressurised basket.

  • +2

If ordering the Plus and have the Amex offer ($500/50), don't forget to add ~$50 of accessories (after discount) to get extra cashback!

    • Any suggestions? Thinking of just getting the bean cannister to get the Bambino+ over $500.

      • +1

Knock box would be more useful?

  • Could I get away with using my Fellow Ode Gen 2 on the finest setting as my grinder for this machine? I know it’s not meant for espresso, but could it work?

I’m an invested filter coffee guy, but love my milk based drinks too.

    • Not to my knowledge. You could always try it and then get a Smart Grinder Pro or similar if needed.

      • I’d likely sell my Fellow Ode and get one that can do both filter and espresso

    • i also own an ode and the consensus i found is that you can try but it'll kill the motor much faster, better off having a separate grinder or something that can do both solidly i.e. df64 gen 2

  • +1

Did anyone check (perhaps you can navigate to some YouTube video) if the Bambino has real 9 bar pressure on extraction? If it does have 9 bar along with PID and once paired with proper grinder (ex. Eureko Zero) it could be an absolute bomb of a set up.

    • +1

After researching i believe they both pour 9 bar st extraction but the plus has a 3way solenoid, so no water will pass when the extraction finishes and you will have a dry puck. However I still went with the non plus and I can froth my own milk without a sensor, I also feel this would be the first thing to go on the plus model

  • The Bambino Plus is showing $499 for me. It was yesterday as well. Just me?

    • $449.10 is after 10% discount for first order (unique code sent via email)

  • can also get JB hi-fi to match this if you don't want to wait for shipping, you can still claim your 2 free bags of coffee through Breville by signing up

  • Anyone here has issue with water leak?
Mine leaks and it seems after using steam wand and when it tries to clear.
The water leaks underneath the unit

  • Seems to stack with 4.7% cashback with Shopback.

  • +1

Use code BrevRACV20 to bring Bambino and Bambino Plus down to $319.20 and $399.20 respectively.

Edit: Posted as separate deal to notify new price: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/879629

    • +1

With this code and Breville's cashback, it comes down to $271.59

      • +1

Can you advise how you were able to get the cashback?
I wasn't able to use both my email 10% off code and the RACV code.

        • I only used cashrewards and the RACV code. First I logged into cashrewards.com.au, navigated to breville, and then bought the product using the RACV code that way. Hopefully the cash back gets delivered lol

    • Arghhh, missed that one, is it possible to cancel an order?

      • Not sure, but worst case you can order another with this discount and then return the previous order.

  • Genuine question as not much of a coffee drinker. Why pay so much for this one when you can probs get 18% cashback or therebouts at goodguys during BF / cyber monday for this

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/breville-barista-express-in-s…

    • +3

I suppose the TL;DR would be that for some people, an all-in-one is more of a risk than a benefit. i.e. having the built-in grinder is not so much a saving as a limiting factor - if one part fails (most likely the grinder), then you're carrying dead weight.

There are also other reasons which essentially boil down to how much and how precise of a control you want over each of the individual steps in the end-to-end workflow.

    • The more fair comparison should be the Barista Pro as it also has Thermal Jet which heats up in 3 seconds like the Bambino Plus. Barista Exxpress use thermal coil, old tech which is slow and goes everywhere.

Also build in grinder is a pain to clean. Standalone grinder is small and light so you can flip it upside down and give it a good shake to get all the bits and pieces out, you really can flip and shake an all in one right? Then there is the obvious advantage of one breaks you still have the other.
