  • Any ozargainer wisdom on how to check stock levels at JB? Still want to get one without the $350 GC

    • If you dont care about the $350 GC you can still do the deal, then they will order the phone for you. They said it will take a couple of days.

This is bad for someone expecting the GC because you will only be given the GC when you received the phone, and by that time they probably already changed their mind to give GC

      • I tried at one store today and they said they need the IMEI to do the deal by signing up with Telstra. Made sense to me cause that was one step of the process I recall seeing. Will try another store tomorrow.

        • I think what they do is they search for stock in other stores and be requested to sent to your store. As long as there's still stock within your state, they should be able to order it.

          • @yummypinacolada: Got it this morning. They call the store to confirm stock and grab the IMEI then it's a store to store transfer.

  • I tried to port at 20:45 to be told Telstra's ID verification system was down…. They put the phone and G aside for me to pick up and try again tomorrow (it was the last 256GB Obsidian they had in stock)

  • I signed up to the deal from one store (The Strand) and picked up the phone from another store that had stock. (Narellan)

Super happy with the phone. It's the 256GB porcelain.

    The haptic typing is incredible.

I was sooo close to getting the deal, $99p/m and the $350 gift card on a 256gb. Then Telstra knocked me back, apparently I'm only allowed a $17p/m credit as a full time student in the $800-$1600 fortnightly income bracket.
I called Telstra and the guy knew about the cancellation deal and couldn't help unfortunately. I had no trouble 5yrs ago with Telstra for the Pixel 3 deal. I tried to confirm via Telstra chat the other day before heading into JB, they said I just had to try instore.
I'm shattered, I can definitely afford it and have been using my Pixel 3 for 5yrs. I'll just have to wait for a deal that's not a phone plan or all gift card discounts.

  • Will this gift card bonus expire on 6th of Nov?
If I purchase before 6th I will definitely get gift card right?

    • Need to be lucky to get gc on top of phone deal. Only some stores do it.

      • If I buy it outright, should definitely get gc before 6th of Nov right?

        • You get it on the spot if in-store.

  • Late to the party - I can’t find $99 plan on Telstra site :/

    • It’s via JB HiFi sign up.

  • I really need a new phone. Can someone please guide me how to get this deal? I can't work out how people only paid $300 for it. Many thanks

      1) Go to JB Hifi and buy phone with 24 month Telstra plan (whether you get $350 gift card is a roll of the dice).

      2) Log into Telstra and cancel the plan (JB staff says to use it for a month, but most here seem to cancel immediately).
I think most people (myself included) are confused about repaying the FULL cost of the 24 month plan. Note "Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee" in the CIS is $800, hence that is all that you have to pay.

      3) If you want to get a refund on the $99 for the first month, don't activate or use any data, once the $99 is cleared in your bank account use the Telstra app and ask for a refund since you did not use the service.

      • JB app

      • Bought the phone with plan and gift card today. Now, what reason shall I need to give to Telstra as I haven’t even activated the plan (not even inserted the sim)

  • Lol already seeing scums trying to sell for a profit on FB marketplace

    • +1

Ofc they would be. They can deal with 100's of messages and low ballers. $1000 is fair.

I think most people who want one cheap would go to the effort of jumping on these deals.

      • but the value to get the phone and all that is about 1050. how much lower can i lowball this?

  • Would only buy if i can also get 350 gc. Not sure if i can go through time and effort trying to look for a store that might still offer this

    • Don't buy it then

  • -1

How about returning the phone and and then trading in for the $400 trade voucher and using that and other gc's for an outright purchase since you can't use the trade voucher in conjunction with other promos (like this one)?

    • +2

I tried to return one yesterday. The Ken at mobile section said this has had a voucher on it and you should return it (without even knowing).

I said I have no idea wife bought it. He then CALLED the store of purchase and confirmed I paid $0 for it.

      No exchange was accepted.

      • -1

so you couldn't return the phone at all?

hmm maybe i'll just keep the p8 to trade next year but these deals aren't conducive to it anymore. Waiting for the next ebay fee-free sale.
Trade in would get $390 for it and $400 voucher but can't even use that with the other promos. (and maybe not even a 350$ voucher without the $1700 voucher; but should). would do that then return it, already got an s24u.

  • Denied 350 this morning. It's in the T&Ć's'"not available with any other offer", pretty obvious actually

  • Actually it's a little too obvious, they've been replaced overnight without a doubt

    • Yes, think text was there already yesterday. However, some salespersons may not be aware of it.

    • When you buy outright, will you still get gc?

      • -2

that's what i was thinking, sujrely you would, but where's the incentive to buy outright unless you returned one first?
Even if you got 350$ after purchase it's nowhere near as good as $1700 off.
        Even with $400 trade bonus..

May have to keep the P8 for a spare, seems like you could send it in for the trade but not use the trade voucher and buy using other deal (as long as you send it in). Waste of time as I could sell for more than $360 but it's just a hassle.

      • @hishaken yeah that's the problem can't use the gift cards for the next year's phone so have to squander them and hope your TV needs replacing or something.

    • Nope, it said that yesterday

Is any store in Vic still doing the 350 GC deal?

    • No sounds like they all got "the talking to" from management

    • Mornington store I got the 256gig with the 350gc

      • Frankston shot me down before I even asked. Ended up refunding it before I left, HN would be a better deal

      • Any idea who you spoke to at Mornington?

        • Maggie was great to deal with.

        • -1

Did u managed to get it? Hesitant since it’s 45 mins drive lol

          • +1

@tinx: I went with Optus deal, might he Optus, but it's better value, even with the GC and the variance 128/256

            • @parad0x: What is Optus deal? With HN?

    • You can try Highpoint. Staff said no but I insisted to check with manager and offered to buy 2 phone. After 10 mins, manager approved 2x $350 gift card as a gesture of goodwill. Legally they can deny as it is now in the fine print and all staff are aware of this.

      • really? thought i checked stock level and they didn't have any stock online. how you managed to get 2 is crazy

  • -2

No luck on getting the $99 back via Telstra chat when I canceled. Anyone have luck getting it?

    • Yep - all clear, $99 refunded

    • Yes. Got refund too in 2nd attempt. Keep trying

    • Took 3 attempts before they agreed to refund the $99 fee to me, so worth another try.
On the 3rd attempt I mentioned this Ozbargain post and asked why my request was declined when others had been approved, so that approach may be worth a try.

      • May I know where did you ask for refund? Telstra app or Jb mobile site chat window?

        • Telstra app or website.

          • @jimojr: Did you use the telstra app to chat to a representative to get a refund?

          • @jimojr: Okay. I tried twice. No luck so far.

Shall I first go ahead and cancel the plan with $766.59 invoice? And, then keep on chasing these guys for $99 refund? Or is it something expected to go in one go altogether?

            • +1

@deal-cracker: Yes, you have to cancel the plan first and wait until the $99 payment is no longer pending, then contact them for a refund. Keep trying and it will work.

              • @jimojr: Thanks. I just canceled the plan. Where can I see the invoice $766.59? I can’t find it in JB mobile app, but just an order number saying canceled plan.

                • +2

@deal-cracker: Telstra app>Payments, you may have to wait several hours for it to appear.

Don't know why you've been down voted. The bloke I chatted with said "Sorry we cant process the refund since it was a valid payment" which makes no sense.

I'm going to try to get another rep.

Just looked at the the store, feels small to a last year pro model, noway this phone is $1800… Next year it will worth again just $500… Crazy.

    • +2

      Lol I love it
Last year's is equivalent to pro xl
      They've renamed them a bit.
Will keep s24 though and maybe get pro 10 since slim chance of getting 350gc

      • +1

Without the $350… I would not get this phone it is not a huge upgrade, feels more like downgrade to a last 8Pro model, unless you are getting Pro XL…

        • No it Should be better, just in the smaller form factor. In

    • +1

That's the whole appeal of it…

  • -2

    Help me understand this…
I'll get the phone with the plan, then I'll cancel it thru Telstra? And it should come out just ~800?

    • -2

$866 or thereabouts. You have to pay 1st month

    • +3

You bothered to read any of the last 5 pages..

      • Read them but can't get my head around how you get to just pay less than 1K for the phone. I've been brainwashed by Telecom Australia for too long

        • Maybe go through it again. Just do what everyone suggests above, it's based on cancelling the contract.
.. or keep the plan of you happy with 99/m and the data.

        • +1

@zaido I believe the logical thing to happen when you cancel a contract is to repay the entire contracted amount ($99 x 24 months).

However if you read the T&C it states:

If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term.

What is this "Voucher Repayment Fee" you ask? Well if you take a look at the "Voucher" table in the Critical Information summary, you'll see the highest you'd need to pay is $800

          Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee
          N/A $550 $800

Hence the cancellation is not the true contract amount ($99 x 24 months), but just the Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee of $800.

Just got the phone with the $1700 plan and the $350 gift card.

Store had no phone in stock so organised the deal with the phone area staff member for the phone on the plan with the $1700 discount (they said the $350 gift card was not included with the deal), the phone can be collected from another nearby store.

Once the phone and account were organised with the phone area staff they sent me to the checkout.

Paid at checkout the $147. Asked about the $350 gift card and checkout staff said to collect it at the pickup store.

Pickup store had my phone waiting and organised my $350 voucher 😊👍 paperwork they had said fully paid, click and collect.

Got the $350 GC at Kedron QLD

  • Can someone explain how I get that $99 refund from telstra? Do I cancel my service first, pay the fee, and then ask for a refund on the $99, or do I ask for a refund first, and then cancel the service, and pay the fees? Also to get a refund, do I have to chat to a Telstra representative?

    • +1

      Here what I do:
      - got the plan of course.
      - 3 hours later, jump to Telstra chat on the mobile app, asked for cancellation of the plan due to personal issues. Said "I happy to pay for the termination charge but since I just got the plan and pay $99 first month a couple hours ago and I haven't use the service yet, can I get that $99 refund?". But that representative refused. I still went ahead with the plan cancellation.
      - 10 mins later, jumped to Telstra chat on my PC. Asked for the refunded with the reason above. This representative agree to process the refund but since the money still pending, she said I need to chat again later in a few days once the money clear so they can process the refund. She gave me the reference number and also noted it down and told me to rest assure, next time when I jump to the chat just qoute the ref number and the representative will process the refund.

      • Cool, thank you so much for this!! :)

      • Also quick question, where do you pay the cancellation fee? I've cancelled 15 mins ago, and I've got an email saying "Your request to cancel … is complete. No further action is required.". However nothing really mentions exactly where I pay the cancellation fees, the Telstra App, or the JB HI FI app?

        • If you don't pay it in the Telstra app, it should be debited in 10 days from the card you used when you signed up.

          • @johnmelb: Thanks!

          • @johnmelb: Is there a way to manually pay invoice through CC or GC, instead of Direct Debit account?

            • +1

@deal-cracker: Yes, you can go in Telstra app and pay with different payment method.
Whether GC works, is not something I can comment on.

  • Anyone got gift card in Sydney? Please comment store name. Thanks in advance

  • No luck with the gc at Hornsby or Macquarie Centre.

  • I tried at Paramatta and Sydney Domestic Airport. No luck. Would visit two stores tomorrow

  • No luck with the $350 voucher - they’ve got the T&Cs and pasted everywhere now and the SAs say they no longer can provide it. I still went ahead as it makes sense for us given we can salary sacrifice. In terms of process, the $99 plan fee was docked from my credit card on the spot while in store.

Dumb question: what happens when you ask Telstra to cancel your plan? Do they put you onto a casual plan?

I started with asking online chat to change my plan to prepaid or postpaid month to month $65 per month. They said I had to call up for that…but this was Telstra chat, not JBHiFi.

    • -1

Read my journey… Telstra have never wanted ANYWTHING to do with my account plan wise because it was a JB account. They ssay there's nothing they can do. But wjhat happens whenn you cancel the plan 15min after buying it, without leaving the store - 9d 23hr 20min business days remaining on the legal cooling off period?? JB sends you an $800 invoice for psyout pof the GC used… That i returenned

    • 1) how much $ in gc did you get back after you returned the phone?
      2) where did you see the info about a 10 day cooling off period? afaik a cooling off period doesnt apply when you sign a non-UCA contract. (i could be wrong here)
P.S I havent negged you (yet)

      • -5

FFs I had a response and lost it to a dodgy page refresh because I'm still using my old phone because the thought of the 9 makes me sick.
        1) $147 or whatever the additional cost is.
        2) I did cross my wires in it applying in different scenarios, and bad the beauty of my phone knowing what I wanted to hear so it fed it to me. I still believe that I have enough grounds to warrant involving CA, ever without the home run I thought I had.
Neg me, I honestly couldn't care less right now. An OzB neg really is the least of my problems, this one just pushed the remainder back because it's time critical.
Especially as it becomes more and more evident that people just don't care
Whether you do or not, it will be another 3rd party whose decision it will be. For JB to ever see a cent it will have to be a magistrate who issues a court ordered payment/deduction. At which point I will again have an option to pay, and an option to not pay. Those I will contemplate when it comes to it.

How to say a lot without saying anything

    • +1

I don't understand why you'd cancel after everything has been done. Were you still expecting the $350 GC to be given by some naive cashier? If you did this at HN there's no chance you'd be able to cancel the contract and return the phone as well, because their phone is just bundled with the Optus plan as a gift. With HN your invoice for the phone would be $0.

      • -5

I don't expect you, or anyone to understand why it occurred as such.. And no, I wasn't.
Just like I don't understand how you think it's fair to be charged $800 for 15min of indecision.
I know what the difference is between the lack of mutual understanding, but certainly don't nor will I ever understand it.

        • +4

Not sure if indecision is appropriate here. You made a decision to sign up to a contract and changed your mind, hence the cancellation fee.

I'm not experienced with these type of promotion but would this be a better deal than waiting for Black Friday? I'm eyeing the 512 and the -1700+800+99 is kinda tempting. Appreciate the insights.
