      • That's exactly why i wanted to know the process. I effectively want to walk out with the voucher and then walk back in and buy the phone outright to guarantee the $350 GC.

        • +3

the process is the person attending the mobile desk walks with you to the payment counter where they load the $1700 GC and swipe the terminal immediately as payment. At no point do you have the $1700 GC in your hands.

    • +6

You just say you want the Pixel 9 Pro XXXgb on the $0 upfront, $99/24 Month plan offer in the catalogue. You then sign up for the plan (show licence etc.) They effectively use the gift card on the spot to hand you the phone after.

  • +1

These are running out quick. I got the last 256gb one at JB Liverpool.

    • +1

Only 1 Obsidian 256 in Homebush. I got the last Hazel 256.

  • Hi does anyone know how many services we can have with JB HiFi? I got two S24 Ultra last time for my parents and the system didn’t allow me to get one more. Now I’ve cancelled both of the services am I eligible for this new promotion?

  • For anyone wondering:
JB staff initially told me I would be eligible for $350 GC with a 256GB on plan. Then when I was at the counter, the manager said no. I think they received comms to say no to the GC for $99 plans. Anyway they apologised for any confusion and offered me $245 for the 3 pack Nest Wifi Pro (which is currently 50% off at $350 already). So I took it. Happy days for both device and new router.

I'll cancel the Telstra plan later.

    • So they make to pay $245 for itema that you may not interested ? Or did you give some hints ?

      • +3

They just said they could do me a deal on anything I was interested in. So I mentioned it myself. I got $100 off on something that is already $350 off so I'm happy with that.

        • That would be a "manager's special" since they promised you the GC initially. Good to hear you got more than the $1700 discount. Safe to say nobody will be getting the discount and GC tommorow.

          • @star-ggg: Yes the override message said remediation from manager.

  • Anyone still waiting to get activated, it's been 6hrs already!!

    • +1

Yeah. I'm at about 5 hours

    • still not activated after 16 hours. how about you?

      • Well over 24hrs now and it seems like noone at JB Hi-fi thought about contacting Telstra Support, I don't understand how some are not having issues getting a new number and some are…

  • +1

Told in two different jb stores the $350 gift card is a seperate deal and can't be stacked.

  • Got the Pixel 9 Pro 256 with $350 gift card thanks OP

    • which store?

  • Anyone know how to cancel? Is it through the Jb or telstra website/app?

  • +1

Telstra has this phone for $750 off RRP, Costing about $949
Is this a better deal? I know its $750 off rrp
:) he he he being a true ozbargainer.

Anyone already using this phone any pros and cons?

    • That is when you stay connected to Telstra with the selected plan.

  • +2

It'd be very helpful if the original deal were updated with more information. Maybe it's just me, but the "FAQ" link isn't exactly informative on the 'strategy' and picking through the various scenarios in the comments isn't ideal.

It's my first time with this so I could be wrong, but my understanding of the basic "buy phone with plan, then cancel" scenario is:
    P9P 128GB = $0 [upfront phone cost] + $99 [first month plan] + ($800 - 800/24) [pro-rated termination charge] = $865.67 [total discount = $831.33]
    P9P 256GB = $1847 [upfront phone cost] - $1700 [upfront discount] + $99 [first month plan] + ($800 - 800/24) [pro-rated termination charge] = $1012.67 [total discount = $834.33]
    P9P 512GB = $2047 [upfront phone cost] - $1700 [upfront discount] + $99 [first month plan] + ($800 - 800/24) [pro-rated termination charge] = $1212.67 [total discount = $834.33]

All of which may also receive the $350 gift card, but that seems to be on the decline as the T&Cs are applied more stringently.
Not sure about the talk of returning and refunds, etc.

    • How do you cancel the plan? I can't seem to find where to cancel

      • +1

I haven't done it myself, but someone above described the steps for the JB HiFi Mobile App

go to 'get help' tab, and then 'Get in touch' and then write 'I want to cancel my plan' and an agent then helps you through.

        • Yes, I just cancelled earlier today the same way.

In the jb mobile app, go to the help section and there is chat option (it says something like "send a message", but it's just a normal chat). The only info they needed was the mobile number and it was done pretty easily.

          • @fruxo: As for if you were to return the phone, is there anything on the receipts that suggest you can’t? Does it mention special promo or $0 paid etc?

          • @fruxo: hey, did you get the invoice straight away? Also did you managed to get the $99 refunded?

            • @schrodinger-kat: I never asked if I could get the $99 refunded. I should have asked if that was possible since it's still day one. I got an invoice for $766 and the $99 is still pending on credit card.

        • Thanks for your help everyone, since it seems the $99 isnt refunded I will cancel it in a month then

  • -3

can anibody tellmme if we can do XL with this Offer?
I need a bigger screen, larger battery please…..????

  • +3

Just got the Pixl 9 pro 128gb from Epping Melbourne
$0 upfront ($1697 gift card applied)
$99 paid upfront for telstra contract
$350 bonus GC handed after purchase

Employee checked their website and it showed them $350 GC is available on outright purchase of the 128gb version, maybe they were not informed about them not stacking, but they were pretty confident the $350GC is included on top.

Now cancelled my plan on telstra chat
    Estimated early termination fee $766.50
Asked for refund of my $99
Their response is as the payment is not posted they can’t process the refund and want me to comeback to their chat after payment is posted.

    So final price:
    $0+$99+766.50-$99-$350=$416.50
    If you’re travelling claim TRS
    $416.50-$154.27=$262.23

    • You forgot the +$3 GC!

      • Damn, missed to take that $3GC

        • Wow did the staff pocket it?

      • +1

        actually u don't get 1700 with 128gb
        it just says 0 upfront

    • can you confirm whether or not the 99 is refunded, i asked and they said no so i didnt cancel may aswell use the 99 for the month

      • +1

Try another agent. It used to take me 3 agents to get the refund. Ask nicely though.

    • How do you claim TRS? Wouldn't the receipt say that you paid $0 upfront? The $99 is for the phone plan and not for the phone. The $766.50 is a termination fee so again not for the phone?

      • Need an ozbargain accountant..
Just try it and see, the main thing is the amount and gst amount I would have thought.

      • +2

Ask for the tax invoice when you pick up the phone from JB hifi. Make sure it has your name on it as it's over $1000. The receipt shows fulls amount and that your payment method is "paid" via a gift card.

    • -1

What is your invoice say for your phone price ? Can $350 be used for the original transaction ? If not, it shouldn't be used for calculation, unless assuming you can sell the gc for $350 too. Am I correct ?

  • +14

F's in the chat for those unable to get the $350 gift card. I went for the 128GB so wasn't expecting it and didn't ask. The young girl just straight up offered it to me and did a good job convincing the manager on the till that "yes, this customer is eligible for the GC". Hats off to JB Malaga, WA!

  • +1

FYI, at my local JB managed to get the 128gb P9P with the $350 gift card as well., telstra cancellation just finalised over chat for $766 (+ the $99 for the first month).

Pretty stoked. Just need to sell/use the gift card and I'll be happy!

    • Hey did you get the invoice in the app or email immediately?

      • The cancellation invoice? I did it online and it it shows up in the payments tab after they confirmed in chat

        • Yeah. Interesting, I can't see anything in the payments tab. Might hit support up

  • +6

no store in Sydney city CBD is stacking 350 gift card for what it's worth.

  • No luck in getting $99 refund from Telstra.

  • Tempting but would want the larger screen of the XL, hoping it will have another deal like this one.

  • +1

Anyone got lucky with refund the phone?

Is it stick with the mobile plan?

    • Following, read mixed comments based on some receiving $1200 gift card when returning the phone

  • So once you get the break contract invoice of 800$, how long do we have to pay for the invoice anybody knows ??

    • +1

About 2w (last time bought 17th and was due on the 1st).

    • In the chat they said 10 days but the PDF invoice actually gives me 14 days.

      • ah yes 10 days or so. They nominate a date when you get the invoice. I just waited for the d/d
(account info seems to disappear from the apps once you cancel so was the only option anyway).

  • The 256gb seems to be sold out around where I live. Shall I get the 128gb or is stock expected soon? I called the local JB Hi-Fi but they couldn't tell when they are getting stock again.

  • I'm genuinely curious what does JB gain from receiving $800 odd bucks for a brand new Pixel 9 Pro.

They gotta know people are doing this and aren't sticking to the 24 month plan. I mean sure not every customer is from ozbargain and/or know this loophole.

    • +1

Guess plenty of legit customers buy them as well.
Before this loophole the deals are getting worse every year and the RRPs are getter higher.
They will clamp down on it eventually perhaps. I assume Telstra make enough money and fix up JB hi-fi.

Just enjoy it whilst you can.

      • Yes HN/Optus clamped down so now it's JB/Telstra benefiting. Til they clamp down maybe next year.

        • Can't even use the GCs for the next phone with these little out of pocket deals/plans, don't want to accumulate too many GCs. Good hack but surely they'll clamp down on it yes.

    • +1

this only shows how big the margins are for the stores. Pixel 9 retail price is highly inflated, store get it probably for way less. JB might also get a bonus for every new Telstra customer. Not sure how this works when they cancel it on the same day though.

      • +7

nah any phone on an outright purchase makes F all,
its google and telcos funding this deal.

  • Does canceling the contract impact the credit score negatively?

    • +2

No, signing up does and that's already done. In a few months it will go back to normal.

      • +2

        signing up does

Should be "signing up may .."
It does not have impact for everybody each time.

Both me and my partner signed up for last months deal, no enquiries lodged, no score impact - checked Illion/Experian (clearscore) and Equifax (getcreditscore).

        • You are right that they may, however now I can't edit my comment. Thanks for the insight.

Credit scores are complex. They are relative to the people around you and are constantly changing - as well as being dependant on your own living/employment specifics. Also, the way credit checks themselves are conducted is not simple - Telstra may check internally (this won't show at all), they may do a soft check (this can't harm your score) or they may do a hard check.

Internal checks will not impact you negatively or positively
Soft checks will not impact you negatively or positively.
Hard checks may impact you negatively - as you said. Multiple hard checks over a short period usually guarantee this however.

  • Called around 10 stores in Victoria since morning. Pretty much all of them have straightaway confirmed that 350GC is not applicable along with Telstra deal. Only 1 or 2 have come back after checking with manager and confirming the same. Anyone able to get one this morning from any store in VIC

  • Had a friend successfully get the $350GC at Broadway after originally being told no! Win.

Edit: this was yesterday, I think anyone trying today will be SOL.

  • +2

Looks like they updated the T&Cs of the description of the Gift Card:

"Not in conjunction with JB Hi-Fi Mobile Google Pixel offer."

*JB Hi-Fi gift card emailed within 2 weeks of delivery or instore collection of online purchases. JB Hi-Fi gift card given at time of purchase for instore purchases. Not in conjunction with JB Hi-Fi Mobile Google Pixel offer. Not applicable to JB Business or JB Education sales. Gift card subject to T&Cs

  • +4

Just got this deal at JB Carseldine in Brisbane WITH the $350 GC!

      • +1

Stock is not accurate. I was told if only a few devices (2-3) it might show as out of stock on the website.
Only 1 particular P9pro was in stock, but was able to pick any in store.
        Maybe call them and ask.

    • Are you able to please have a look at the receipt if anywhere mentions the $350 gift card I’m just not sure if the lady that served me didn’t do it properly and if I was to refund the phone I don’t also have to return the gift card :)

      • Nah it's a separate receipt for the GC and they shouldn't ask for it back.

      • It does not show up on the receipt.

    • @sublimnl - Can you share name of the person who assisted at billing, they are the one who would provide you the $350 gc. I am heading to carseldine store as well.
      Thanks

      • Didn't catch her name. Dan (dark hair, beard, glasses) helped me in the phones department. Then handed me off to a lady late 30s early 40s if I had to guess, long blonde hair, at the checkout desk. She seemed in charge the way she was telling people what to do - haha. Didn't catch her name and it's not on the receipt.

        • Thanks Mate!

  • anyone had any luck returning 128gb and getting back 1697 gift card?

  • Is the phone locked to a carrier?

  • +2

Was told won't get 350 gift card from sales person but checkout person gave me one anyway without me asking. Broadway store.

  • Worked for me at Highpoint in Melbourne, they handed out the $350 gift card (+ the extra $3 one) with no issues. Perfect timing as my current Pixel is on its way out (shame it wasn't the XL tho).

    • Could potentially return and/or just swap/exchange for the XL using the money on the voucher?

        • How ? Pay the cancellation fee of $900 then refund the phone for $1700, purchase outright s24u with that $1700+$350 gc ?

          • @yht: Sure.

            • -1

@G-rig: Who is going to coup with $800 loss ?

              • +1

@yht: It's not loss. Finally you had S24U for $800. Anyways JB hi-fi will give only $1200 voucher if you return phone

                • @ScoMosas: Why only $1200, wouldn't the receipt says $1700?

                  • +1

@yht: If you return phone you will get only $1200 GC. I spoke with rep yesterday.

      • Wish I thought of that or saw your comment before buying a case and screen protector! Oh well, happy either way.

  • Just picked mine up and gift card was included
