Some people appreciate the smaller screen.

Firsthand experience with Tensor G4 vs G2. Much cooler processor and better battery life.

  • +1

Can anyone confirm going with this and cancelling the plan, leaving unopened and returning gets you the RRP? In giftcard?

    • I doubt any one can definitively confirm that since the deal is on tomorrow.

Things might have changed from last time. JB might have closed the loophole.

It's a good deal if you can still do that. Spending $800-ish bucks to get $13xx in gc value.

      • For sure. I wonder if with the outright buy and $350 GC, it can be used for the total of the outright.

        • Isn't it only a $250 GC?

        • +1

probably not, they give the gift card after purchase. just sell it on marketplace. always someone that wants a bargain

  • +1

Is this not the same as the Optus cancellation method via HN last year with Pixel 8 pro except you cannot upgrade to 256GB

    • +1

      basically

      • +2

Why would telcos keep doing this on the termination fee amazes me….

  • Sweet deal if we can get a GC on returning the phone. That would be the best ozbargin deal 1677$ = $899 (or so)

  • +5

I did this with the deal a few months ago.
The store manager refused to process the full refund and offered a $1200 GC instead of $1600
I declined the offer and logged a formal complaint with head office. The next day the store manager called me to offer the full refund after consulting with their legal department.
It's possible some store managers are giving reduced gift cards. Because people are profiting they don't argue about the remainder. Then processing the remaining refund as a GC to themselves. The accounts balance at the end of month and they get a bonus.
Just a thought after my recent experience.

    • How do you log a formal complaint with head office? Sounds quick by "next day"

    • +1

What are you complaining about though. You're clearly rorting the system

      • It's a legal contract, one they actually prepared. They are bound to it just as much as I am.
It's not up to the store manager to breach my consumer rights because the contract doesn't work in their favour (this time)

        • But how do you phrase the complaint given you're not actually losing out?

And is doing it your way actually better than buying the 256gb version at $1700 off?

          • @prhino: They are losing out on their legal consumer rights based on the offer and written agreement by JB Hi-Fi

          • +1

@prhino: The complaint was that the manager was breaching the terms of the legally binding contract and refusing to refund the full invoice value in contradiction to the JB T's & C'c for unopened goods return.

I haven't investigated this deal, so I can't vouch if you'll be better off.

My comment was to share my experience in dealing with a manager who literally took the law into their own hands to refuse the full refund when returning an unopened product.

            • @KernelOK: Cool. Thanks

            • @KernelOK: Your method is better than the $1700 off the 256GB deal because you also get the $350 gift card

              • +1

@prhino: Don't you have to return the $350 gift card the full refund as per invoice?

  • +1

    Until when is this deal?

  • -7

Is paying $899 for a small phone really a deal?

  • With the refund GC, how much extra difference we need to pay to get 256Gb version?

    • If the GC is full retail, another $150.

    • -1

Why not ask to top up $150 straight up without a GC.

  • I was told last s24 FE deal from job north lakes that they wont give the full price in GC . If anyone is successful in this tomorrow pls et us know . I need a new iphone!!

One more thing who do i call to cancel the phone plan? And any chance getting the $99
    Back?

    • Cancel it via JB Hifi App

  • Do they accept trade in with this deal?

    • No. I tried last time for the same deal for P9P XL. Can’t be stacked

    • You can in fact trade in towards the phones outright cost. But not towards the plan. As it's billed separately. If you were buying a larger storage model you could definitely use a gift card or trade in towards the remaining cost of the handset.

  • Correction : Effective Cancellation would be around $766.59 + $99.

    • Hi happy to update the description. Where can I find the $766.59 figure?

      • +2

        From past experience :)

But to get the $766.59, it’s calculated by:

        ($800/24) x 23 = ~$766.67

        • I see, I've updated the description

  • I was told by a rep earlier that the discount is up to $1700.

    • Well, technically it is $1700 off

    • +2

Get $1700 off a Google Pixel 9 Pro 256GB or 512GB Phone when you switch your number to JB HI-FI Mobile on a $99 Plan over 24 months#
$99 per month plan over 24 months
Unlimited talk text to standard Australian numbers
300GB data for use in Australia
Minimum cost $2376 over 24 months
      Instore only

2376-1700+99=775 - final price for outright phone?

      • Where did you see 256GB and 512GB variants being included in the deal?

      • Forgot the Voucher Repayment fee:

If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan's minimum term.

      • -1

To get the phone outright we need cancel the plan ? So that would be another $766 ?

        So wouldn’t it be $775+$766 =$1,541.00

  • +2

So after we got the $1700 tax invoice then cancel the plan, got TRS refund for the GST, meaning $899-$155 = $744 net ?

    • -1

There is no $1700 tax invoice to begin with.

      • Wrong - you get tax invoice and payment method will be listed as a gift card.

        • Looking at my last receipt it has the subtotal (full price / price matched) then lists the gift cards below.
GST is still 10% of total. In this case people that actually kept the 99/m plan would claim a percentage per month for tax.

You saying if cancelled the plan can't claim anything? Don't think it matters as long as you got a tax invoice, maybe someone who knows can chime in.

  • +1

Buying outright for $1000 was a better deal, don't do this

    • +4

I mean this comes out to just under $900 if cancelling plan. But out of curiosity, where can you buy it for $1000 outright without signing up for and cancelling a plan?

    • +2

$1000 is too much. MobileMonster only offers $640 for brand new Pixel 9 Pro despite the crazy inflated $1699 RRP.

      • +1

As everyone is trying make some profit!

      • +2

MobileMonster is ripping you off. Webuyback is offering $1050

  • +4

new jb hifi deals are out for 256gb …and it seems #350 gc is on both 128 & 256 gb outright phones

  • +1

how is the phone available on JB/HN etc and not on google store yet lol

  • +1

Officeworks, $350 GC + $400 trade in bonus it looks like

  • This offer to upgrade to 256gb is so enticing. should i do this possibly risking a closed up loophole or wait for black friday deals?

    • Do you mean you buy them refund straight away and take gift card to wait for Black Friday deal?

    • +1

We have the same deal on 256gb and 512. Just written as $1700 off on the $99/24 month

So you could save the hassle :)

      • Hi JB employee, can you confirm if 350 bonus Gift card is stacked with this deal?

      • Hello, the 128g plan can we get 350 gift card?

  • +3

Has anyone upgraded to this phone from the Pixel 7? How big of a jump is it?

    • +15

      2

  • Very surprised that there isn't any trade-in bonus. Maybe hold and see as Officeworks is giving $300+ $450 gift cards when trading in.

    • +1

There was before the days of these new big voucher discounts where you have to sign up to a plan. Can't stack now and no point trying to trade as well.
      Just sell privately I guess.

  • -2

Could anyone help how it work?
1If I get 128g, I return straight away, how could I make sure I get full refund of the phone? Do I need to provide invoice of full price of the phone?
    2
Then I can get gift card to purchase 256g? How much do I need to pay?
3 would I receive full invoice of 256g? Could I use this invoice to claim tourist gst tax return?

    • That is the magic question. Let’s see if any OZB are able to get a GC.

  • -1

What's the reason for these deals being in-store only? I'm lazy

    • +1

Identification verification for signing up a new mobile service??

  • +1

    From past experience

    You can get 128GB version for $515.59 =$766.59 (ETC) + $99 (1st month bill) - $350 (JB GC)

    OR get 256GB for $662.59

    • The pricing structure of this deal is similar to the Pixel 9 pro xl pre-order deal posted by BG

    • -1

Do you just ask for the gift card when signing up?

    • +1

Can you please breakdown how you arrived at $662.59 for 256gb?

      • $1847 (256GB phone) - $1700(JB GC to be applied against plan) + $766.59 (ETC) + $99 (1st month bill) - $350 (JB GC for buying Pro)

        • Is the $350 gc not just if you buy the phone outright?

          • @Herb Utsmellz: Nope - $350GC is provided irrespective of how you get the phone (plan or outright)

        • +4

Just visited JB. They mentioned the 350 GC is not stackable with the plan. Fine print says "Gift card offer is not stackable with Google BYO offers" staff mentioned this means if you bring the device for an plan then the GC won't be provided.

          • +2

@BlueMonster: Staff is bullshittiing. Try another store.

Have done it few times in past with S24 deals and always reveived bonus GC

            • @Ash-Say: I felt the same, heading to another store. Will update in sometime..

            • +2

@Ash-Say: Just got back from another store, they mentioned the same and highlighted another fine print in the $99/month plan -
"This offer is not available in conjunction with any other JB Hi-Fi mobile or broadband offer /Trade-In coupon offer or Google Pixel Gift Card offers". The part that states google pixel gift card offers would not allow the GC to be stackable.

They mentioned that they've updated the offers to make them unstackable.

              • +3

@BlueMonster: the "loophole" for this deal is slowly closing

              • @BlueMonster: Yes not worth trying to do a trade-in.
You should still get a $350 GC at the end AFTER purchase of a P9 Pro. You can't use it to buy the phone.

Do you still get 1y free Gemini with purchase, or only from Google Store?

            • @Ash-Say:

              past with S24

              https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/google-pixel-9-pro-5g-128…

the T&Cs of the GC offer explicitly says "not stackacble with Google BYO offers". Similarly, the T&C of the $1700 offer says "not available in conjunction with Google Pixel Gift Card Offers"

          • +1

@BlueMonster: It is always like that. You Are given a $350 GC at the end upon purchase of 9 Pro. You can't use it to buy the phone, use it for something next time.

  • What is classified as a new customer?
I have a boost number; will I be flagged as an existing customer when signing up for a new number?
Or should I get a sim with another provider and port that in?

    • +1

If you're planning to cancel just ask for a new number

  • How do stock levels usually cope with these deals? Can't get there until this afternoon

    • no stock of hazel 256gb around my area.. have to travel 250kms if i want today….

  • Just clarifying as it would be my first time signing up I am able to sign up and also receive the $350 gift card, then cancel and pay the $766 cancelation fee. Assuming it is unopened return the phone for a $1700 gift card and also retain the $350 gift card. Effectively profiting $1185 in the form of gift cards?

    • +2

they might ask you to return the $350 gift card (or cancel it themselves) if you return the phone.

  • My use is browsing, videos, music, calls. Not a camera guy nor do i play games on the phone. Would this be overkill? Looking to replace my Samsung A52. Would like my next phone to just running well with good battery and can last 3 or 4 years

    • perfect. only thing to decide is if you want a bigger screen for all that.

  • +1

Cancelling a number from a previous $1200 gift card deal live chat is telling me:

"The current plan includes a gift card with a commitment to stay on that plan for 24 months. If you disconnect your plan early, you'll need to repay the value of the gift card, the amount showing on our end is really $799.92."

Why would it not be $767

    • +1

Has your card been charged the $99? If not, there's your answer.

If you've been charged $99, they count the entire month 23/24 x$800.
If you have not been charged $99, they see you've been connected <1day so it's basically full $800.

      • I've not been charged, but have used the service. I get charged in 3 days

        • You might have another activate service with them, so your total cost is only $800 instead of 99+767

          • @bargainfinder: No other active services. I've got confirmation that $799.92 is my only obligation, and have screenshotted the chat. Let's see what happens.

    • I can confirm I paid $766.59 only from previous $1200 deal. Also refund $89 monthly fee

    • Agree
$0 upfront vs $99 upfront (other plan). so yeah 24 months vs 23 months.
