Is it possible to claim the tax when travelling overseas?

    • It's more than $1000 so you'll need an invoice with your name on it.
You will have to ask JB, they do not do this by default.
TRS is ok if it is paid with Gift cards, I don't know how JB does it for this promotion though. The invoice needs to mention paid GST and your name, then you should be good to claim.

      • Don't think it matters as long as you have a tax invoice. The store issued one should be fine.
In store receipts never have your name on them. can still log in and print/email btw. but no name.

          You must
be prepared to take all your goods on board as carry-on luggage if directed
spend at least AUD 300, (including Goods and Services Tax (GST), in total from a supplier with the same Australian Business Number (ABN)
buy the goods within 60 days of departure
get a valid paper tax invoice in English with:
your name (and only your name) as it appears in your passport if the invoice is $1,000 or more

a description of the goods that allows us to match the goods to the invoice
the retailer's name, address and ABN (ACNs and ARNs not accepted)
the amount of GST or WET paid (or total price including GST)
          the date of purchase

          • @johnmelb: 👍
So for over $1000 you have to ask the retailer for a special tax invoice?
Usually not an issue for online orders.

  • Anyone got the phone/plan and able to return the phone? What value GC did you recieve? I am on the fence to go through the hassle but if we get full value GC 1700ish happy to take time and do it

    • +2

I'm waiting outside the fence with you

      • a new one has come up with #1200 GC now. So I think the Phone return to $1700 GC is a bit of a stretch or a very big loophole.

        • +1

I've never know why you'd only get 1700 back to start with, not the full price paid (ie RRP).
You'd be doing well to get $1700 back, but more realistically people have got $1200 back but have to give back the $350 GG (so no point).
Easier just cancelling the plan and keeping phone.

          • +1

@G-rig: True, but I want to get the GC for another purchase.

            • +1

@fadzsolz: In my understanding, cancel the Telstra plan and pay $766+$99 upfront to keep the phone.
Retrun the phone to receive RRP in GC(if this works). Then with the GC and extra money to get a 256GB model and $350 in GC.

              Am I theoretically right?

              • @Not1owball: Apparently you don't get that $350 GC now, either time.

Seems like your idea is sound if are buying without the BYO plan option but then wouldn't get the $1700 off.
Pointless as the gap is only $147 so you can't use many of the previous GCs (just use it for a telly or something).

                • @G-rig: No the 256gb is $1847 and I pay with the GC + $147 diff cost to get the phone and $350 GC as bonus.

The total pay is $766+$99+$147 = $1012 upfront to get a 256GB phone + $350 GC( since this purchase doesn't apply with BYO offer)

                  • @Not1owball: So what's the question? seems like asking same as everyone else. or you want to buy outright, not on byo plan ?
                    Surely $1700 off is better.

Sounds like you don't know if cancel plan or cancel phone as well?

  • Hi guys, I've been waiting on this deal a while, can I just clarify - do I need a new $2 SIM from somewhere else before I go in? I'm already a Telstra customer

Or can I just go in, and ask for a new number and when I cancel the plan chuck my old SIM back in?

    • Last time I did it I just asked for a new number

      • +2

Cheers btw, Pixel 9 Pro acquired

        • +1

It worked? No problems requesting a new number?

  • Would we get 350 gift card with 128g plan model?

  • Can someone explain to me why this deal has a lot more likes than the 256GB deal? The other one seems a lot better considering you get a 350$ gift card on top! Am I missing something?

    • Yeah no point to the 128GB deal at all lol.

      • Who said the gift card is only for the 256GB? I only noticed one guy saying he got it on the other deal page but that doesn't mean it's a sure thing?

Both phones say $350 gift card, both say $1700 off. Both also say you can't get the gift card in conjunction with other offers. I can't see a difference

        • Anyone got the voucher on this deal?? If so, then it's a different story

          • @dealer453: Can confirm myself and my mate got the gift card today, however whether we should have is up for debate by the looks of the comments

            • @nikko016: Sorry mate, only just saw this. Yes it worked no issue, they just gave me a new number

    • The catalogue just mentioned the gift card for 256gb version and the $1700 off on the 128gb version. Once jb hifi page updated, it looks like both offers are applicable to both phones.

      • I will go for the 128gb if that's the case. Can someone confirm this?

  • +1

I would avoid this deal and just get the 256gb model with the $350 gift card. I posted the below in the other thread.

"Got this this morning. Can confirm got the $350 gift card on top.

Couldn't use the gift card to pay the $147 for the 256gb model but that's all good.

So all said and done $2050 worth of gift cards to sign up.

Out of pocket today $99 for the plan and $147 for the 246gb model.

Also confirmed the termination for the plan is $800."

    • +1

So how much does it cost net if you keep the phone and terminate the plan?

    • +4

I have no idea what you're trying to say here, to be honest.

    • so how much did you end up paying for the device?

  • If I get a new SIM today to avoid losing my current number, do I need to activate it before I get to the store?

  • +6

I was told the $350 GC was not included in any of the plans but pulled the trigger anyway needed a new phone, so next call is to Telstra to cancel also if you are an existing Telstra customer the first month is not charged as I already had an account so I miss out on the $350 GC but don't have to pay the first month charge. Pixel 9 Pro for $800 can't complain thanks OP.

    • I thought existing customers aren't eligible so have to sign up/BYO from a non-telstra sim?
Last time it was better if you were on Telstra/Boost.. dunno why.

Salute all the ozbargainer discussing on a casual Thursday morning

  • On website for 128gb model it says $350 JB gift card? Is this correct

    • Was just told at a jb that you have to buy the phone outright to get the $350 JB voucher

  • +12

OK I just returned from JB, new phone in hand.
    I can confirm:
Possibly ignore online stock levels, it said no stock within 200km of my location but they had a few in stock at my local store.
You get a $1700 gift card for use on either the 128 or 256gb (or 512)
I got the 256gb for an upfront cost of $147. 128gb would have been $0 as advertised.
I did try to use the credit towards a P9P XL but its only for the non-xl's.
As mentioned previously, they aren't worried about being an existing customer of a telstra partner network. My existing boost sims showed up and it was no issue to get a new number.
I was pleasantly suprised as I was about to walk off from the checkout they also handed me a $350 gift card too! I thought that was only for buying outright but looks like it applies across the board. Epic win!!

    • Hi do you mind sharing a pic of the gift card, not the code obviously. I'm going to pop in store soon. Just wanted some evidence to back up my claim for the $350 :D

      • They should let you have the bonus GC, because you are buying the phone outright, they give you a $1700 GC to buy the pixel phone. Your invoice will have a full rrp price of the phone. Goodluck

        • Yeah you're meant to get the $350 for buying any Pixel 9 pro.
Seems like YMMV now on this.

    • Hyena - what store was this?

  • So, $865.57 is the final price?

  • +1

Tried two JBs in the city and both wouldn't stack $350 GC stating "This offer is not available in conjunction with any other…. Google Pixel Gift Card offers"

    • which city is this?

      • +1

        Melbourne

        • Which two did you try? I'll try the third? Xd

        • Tell us the names of the stores

    • Well $1700 off is a pretty sweet deal to start with. Bonus $350 was the icing, still worth trying your luck.

The older trade in deals you'd only get $x off RRP for pre-order plus bonus trade-in voucher of $x but at least you could use up previous GCs. The RRPs are overinflated now so the big discount helps offsets that.

      • +1

Definitely good deal. I'm happy with my current phone but that extra $350 gc would tempt me to upgrade

        • Yeah you could afford to upgrade every year with these deals .. bit of an issue no trade ins though.

  • +6

I got a 256gb model, it came with a $350 gift card (provided after finalising the sale, so you can't use it to pay for the $147 upfront).

    • +2

so you can't use it to pay for the $147 upfront

You never could as you only get it after making the purchase.

      • +1

I know, but there are so many commenters asking above if they can do this, I thought I would just state the reality from my purchase today.

        • +1

          Yeah no worries.
People like to wish you could but you only get it after buying the phone (for the last time, haha).

  • +4

Finally got the popular telstra jb deal on the P9P 512gb!

Paid $99 for the first month. They gave me the $350 jb gc with P9P, which covered the cost for the size upgrade, i.e $2047-$1700 = $347 (still $3 left to spend, lol)

Might claim the TRS and get additional 10% gst on it.

The staff knew about it and was really helpful throughout the process. However, the only concern is we cannot return the phone for the $1700 gc value (might get lucky depending on the staff and store manager)

Overall, crazy deal and costed me only $865.56 ($99 + $766.56) to get the P9P 512gb.

    • +1

      Which store/city was it?

    • Is there anything on the receipt that suggests you won’t be able to return it?

    • They let you use the $350 bonus GC to cover the upgrade cost to 512gb??

      • +1

No you can't.. people keep asking that for some reason
They just saying it covers the cost. (and use the voucher for something else later).

        • It depend on the store, the op state they still got $3 left which indicated they could have use the GC to pay to upgrade. I personally was able to use the GC to upgrade to the next higher storage model, on the last pixel pro xl deal

          • @bargainfinder: Not a bad idea, worth asking but you still get it after buying the phone. unless it's like a two step process and technically return the 256 to get 512. don't think they'd do that when the 512 is in the deal too.

        • You're absolutely right! I got a little excited and posted before handed out the phone. The staff was new and probably told me I can use the GC towards the upgrade, but the billing told me I would get it after the purchase :/

  • Read through the FAQ but new to this sort of thing - if I'm on a family plan with Vodafone, how would accessing this deal affect that plan?

    • +2

Just ask for new number, then cancel afterwards.

  • +1

I don't care for contracts (credit check) or gift cards (I already have a lot of JB unused ones), so I'm just hoping a lot of people jump on this deal and flog their unopened phones on gumtree eBay etc so I can buy a P9P for less than $1000.

  • -1

Jb wont give you $1700 GC.. confirmed with JB north lakes and carseldine. if u give them the phone back.

    • What do they give you as a refund?
Sounds like you didn't need a new phone haha.

      • -3

didnt share the amount.. i am after iPhone mate.. something smooth and concrete :p

        • +2

Apparently people were getting $1200 and they may ask for the $350 GC back (but guess can say no).
Not a bad hack to if you want to buy something else and $400 profit anwyay.

Still got a pixel 8 i need to get rid of. Not worth trading but if the P9 pro didn't owe me much would just sell this one (but don't really need a spare phone). Would be good taking a smaller one o/s though instead of an ultra in ya pocket.

          • @G-rig: i didn't even get $350 GC with $99 256GB. they caught onto it/T&C's.

            • @slankets: Have to try but yeah everyone should get one with the purchase of a pixel 9 pro. They must have just edited the deal this morning.

              https://ibb.co/k90sSGM

              • +1

@G-rig: Yes, but terms of both plan deal and gift card explicitly state they are incompatible with each other

                • @zachhambo: Plenty of people have got it. YMMV.
Still a great deal anyway with $1700 off (and plan termination hack).

                  • +1

@G-rig: Yes, I wasn't able to get GC

                    • @zachhambo: I would have gone to a few different JB's or staff members ha

                      • @G-rig: Onto the next one now lol

                        • @zachhambo: I got it for the S24U but they are more aware of the other loopholes now for rorting the system.

  • -2

how long is the return period?
If I cancel the telstra plan, would it affect the return?

  • +2

Just completed this process, was easy but didn't get the $350 voucher, and I paid the $99 instore for a new number that I cancelled when I got home after downloading the JB Hi-Fi mobile app. Haven't seen invoice yet for remainder 766.59 but that was the amount agreed up in the app chat. I'm a woolworths mobile customer and that didn't seem to matter.

    • +1

also didn't get 350 GC but phone is cheap already

  • Someone break down the maths on this for me, including just cards like I'm 5 plz

My phone is affected by the 3G shutdown so I'm debating whether to do this or wait for another deal

  • +1

Where in the jb hifi mobile app can I cancel the plan? I must be blind

    • +4

go to 'get help' tab, and then 'Get in touch' and then write 'I want to cancel my plan' and an agent then helps you through.

  • -1

I'm thinking of waiting for the s25 ultra, or getting an s24, not a fan of the smaller screen.
All things considered though, my phone will be bricked in a few days so there's that
. But I've got a spare phone in the meantime

  • +1

Can someone share the exact process for the plan deal. Is it like this:

    1) Sign up for plan.
    2) Get a $1700 GC on the spot
    3) Go to counter and purchase a Pixel 9 Pro outright using the GC from step 2?

    Thanks

    • +1

If that’s the case what’s stopping someone from just walking out of the store with the voucher lol
