Bank of Melbourne Amplify Rewards Platinum Credit Card: 100,000 Amplify Points with $3000 Spend in 90 Days, $49 1st Year Fees

390

Was looking for my next churn this morning and came across this one.
Great way to make a net gain of $400+ (i've already burnt most of the other banks this year).
Can also convert them to velocity for 50,000 points if preferred.

Seems like the AF is waived for existing account holders.
St George and BankSA have an equivalent if you'd prefer to go with them (all the same program).
As usual you need to of not held a St George, Bank of Melbourne, Bank SA credit card for 12 months prior

That could be worth up to $450 in eGift cards<, when you spend $3k+ on eligible purchases within 90 days of new card approval*. Plus, $49 card fee for the first year (reverts to $124)**.
Already with Bank of Melbourne? Sign in and apply to get no card fee for the first year (reverts to $124)***.

NOTE: Existing customers who currently hold an Amplify, Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by Bank of Melbourne, St.George or BankSA, or who have held one in the last 12 months, or Credit Card Product Switches, upgrades or Westpac group staff are not eligible for this offer.

Can I sign up with the bank now to get the AF waived?

    • Same question

      • Ditto

      • Can you try registering for an account? I'm getting an error in the app

        • Error on website too … has a bank been ozbargained!?

          • @Savealopoulos: I had an error on the app, got an email saying my application is unfinished so accessed it on desktop and it works now.

          • @Savealopoulos: The website is terrible! I was seeing lots of errors in the console, the website was trying to contact the backed and it was throwing errors a week ago. so I gave up for a while.

I tried opening an incentive saver account but it was not working.
Tried again with Complete Freedom account and that worked.

Going to try apply for the card soon…

    • +2

Yes you can. I just did that and now $0 AF.

      • Did you apply for the card with website or app after opening an account with them?

I just opened a Complete Freedom account, now about to apply for the card. But don't want to do anything wrong cause their website and app seem terrible

  • +3

I applied from the App as an existing customer and it showed as 0 fee. Also, instant conditional approval.

  • With every churning, aren’t you getting Credit Checked?

    Affect the score too?

    • Yes

    • +2

Yes but it’s free money for those who are smart and pay off each month.

    • +3

      It temporarily affects your score.
As soon as you close the account your score generally recovers.

      • +1

Can confirm. Have a great score and will go through 2 or 3 cards a year.

    • rookie question - what are the steps do you normally take on churning? any need to close the previous cc account first, obtain a letter to the credit rating company, etc thanks in adv

  • Good find mate. Will get me eligibility for more ShopBack deals too.

  • Nice find this is a good one.
I've just opened a Westpac Altitude Platinum Mastercard as my 2nd CC.

I'll add this to my list once I hit the spend limit on the Westpac.

Open question for all, has anyone had any RECENT success in getting your annual fee refunded once you receive your reward?
NAB told me to piss off once I received my 75k Qantas points.

    • +1

I've had 90% AF refund from my citi rewards cc, once I got the velocity points

  • This is some poverty level of offers coming out lately

  • I'm new to churning, but I'm considering starting with the ANZ Rewards Platinum credit card for the velocity points.
so, how does the 100k Amplify points work? are you saying you can cash them in for a $400 gift voucher?

    • +1

Mate you’re churning and you chose the most harsh chewable one. Good luck my fen

      • thanks mate! what one are you churning right now?

      • and can you explain why it's the harshest, in your opinion?

        • +1

I got amex and virgin at the same time, then i cancelled virgin and went for the anz. I got declined immediately. Maybe in my case i got the loan with anz so they don’t want me to have it but looked thru the ozb, everyone always got declined when applying anz card, having said that, anz is still one of the most wanted card atm
If you don’t have any loan, cc before, you should be fine but bear in mind, the credit team is offshore

          • @ginger-gin: So I'm not the only one who got declined for the ANZ Rewards Platinum. Interesting.

Do you know how soon I should be able to apply for a different CC without getting a hit to my credit score?

  • Careful of the conditions for the $3k spend: "The bonus Amplify Points promotion is available when you apply and are approved for a new Amplify Rewards Platinum credit card between 7th November 2023 and 30th November 2024, and spend the minimum amount of $3k on eligible purchases within 90 days from card approval in one or more transactions. Eligible purchases do not include interest, fees and charges, cash, or ATM cash advances, cash equivalent transactions, gambling transactions, a purchase from or payment to a local, state or federal government or government related agency, BPAY or similar transactions (such as Post Billpay), refunds and balance transfers debited from the card account."

I was thinking of using this for my upcoming local gov rates but looks like this would not meet the eligibility criteria. BPAY also being ineligible is a bit painful. I still think many could easily get to the $3k spend over that time, but might just take a bit longer.

    • +2

You could use Sniip to pay it. Worked fine for me with my most recent card. Those are pretty normal conditions, though I did see NAB didn't include BPAY in their clause.

      • How does Sniip works? I was planning pay on federal website, however the comment from josepj2 and stopped.
I quickly looked into Sniip and it says it charges 1.5% fees on visa payments which seems quite high :(

        • +2

Sniip charges you as a vendor, then pays it on to whatever service you're paying. The fee isn't necessarily the lowest, but their support is good, and I just add it to my calculation for what the cost of the points was to me.

          • @eaglezz11: Please correct me if I understood it wrong. Federal govt. surcharge is 1.4% on visa cards and Sniip charge is 1.5% they both add up to 2.9% or did you mean that 1.5% surcharge from Sniip will compensate for 1.4% federal surcharge and keep 0.1% for providing services?
            Appreciate your quick response.

            • +1

@MrM-MrsM: Ohh I didn't know the federal gov charged a surcharge on cards. Might be worth reaching out to Sniip support on this one. I'm guessing you'd just be paying the Sniip fee, since it's kinda like doing a regular bank transfer, but don't take my word for it.

              • @eaglezz11: Yes, looks like there is a surcharge at credit cards everywhere these days.
While I am trying to score some cashback or e-gift cards, I am losing heaps in surcharges.
Thankyou for the information, I will look into it.

              • @eaglezz11: Thankyou for your help mate! It worked!
I received 60K +0.5pts/$ from Westpac Platinum Qantas Altitude.

Simply attached my CC to the app, obtained a BPay from DOHA for the visa application and made the payment via app (got charged 1.5% via Sniip instead of 1.4% on DOHA).

However, it was worth it because if I had paid to DOHA via card it does not count as a shopping, therefore, wouldn’t count towards that minimum spend either.

WAS WORTH PAYING THE EXTRA 0.1% AND WAS ABLE TO CHURN THE POINTS.

Going to close this CC next month and open with another bank to churn more 😅

    • pretty much standard T&C. Use CC online payment facility (instead of BPay) to pay council.

    • +2

Or just book a fully refundable hotel or flight and cancel for the refund once you get your points. Easy.

  • Damn… was looking to rotate between all three banks with their offers.. looks like that's not happening anymore

  • if I've closed a St George credit card recently, can I apply for this card?

  • Can someone please suggest which one is better and quickly approved?

My application was rejected with AMEX Qantas Ultimate recently with a credit score of 1000+ and earing 85K plus bonuses.
I need a make nice payment to federal website (more than minimum required for all these cards), thought of doing it with a CC and pay it back asap as well.

Any information provided will be helpful.

    • +1

AMEX generally rejects any churners by default. Noticed this after my second AMEX.
Average 6 cards a year and not once has AMEX approved me.

    • +1

Westpac ez if you already have an account with them

      • I have recently opened one (No monthly fees) for this purpose, was going to apply the card I mentioned above. But then applied Amex and got rejected. Now, not sure if I should apply this straightaway after the rejection. Do you have any expertise on this sort of thing?

        • +1

          Timing won't really matter.
It's about how many you have open, limits on each and how many times you've applied.

    • +1

make nice payment to federal website

Make sure you read the T&C as government related payment will not count usually

      • I was trying to find this in T&C but I couldn’t see what is excluded. Any chance you could share where I can find this?

Alternative, someone told me I can link my card to a third party app/website and pay through them will act as shopping. However, they charge 1.5% and federal charges 1.4% too (adds up to 2.9%). And its coming upto like $265 in surcharge.
I was like is it even worth the hassle 🤦🏾‍♂️

      • but if you pay through 3rd party like Sniip, it should be fine?

        • I've never done it myself but I think it should work. Assuming you are ok with the payment fee.

  • Can my wife and I separately apply for the same card and then get the points?

If not, can I apply to a different bank that has the same program like BSA?

    Thanks.

    • If by 'same card' you mean your own card each, then I don't see why not. Why would marriage exclude you from being different people.

  • Any ways that I can pay car rego an city council to be counted for spendings?

Will purchase if flight tickets from online travel agencies count as well?

    Thank you.

    • NAB accepted council payments made through council's CC online payment system (not BPay) with 1.5% or so fees.. AFAIK rego can be paid online as well

  • So can I pay with BOM CC then?……

  • Random cc question - does paying an electricity bill via the cc option count towards points, for credit cards in general? I know some cards stopped counting bpay payments, but i've used my actual cc details this time and copped the cc surcharge fee but it's been a few days and i haven't got any points for it. I did get points for a transaction after it though, which makes me think NAB no longer gives you points towards any utility bills even when using your cc # ??

  • Signing up for an everyday account is turning out to be a Kafkaesque experience - sign up online first try, site crashes. Second time it seems to go through after sending the SMS activation code but just dumps me at the homepage. Wake up to two emails, asking me to confirm my id for a bank card (don’t want) and then one claiming I’m registered for internet banking. Try to log in but I need a “security number” which I never set, great. Can’t request a new one without an account number (bank account number isn’t accepted). No online chat option.

BoM: wake up and fix your shitty system / human interaction issues. Embarrassingly hard just to get an account.

    • Now they want me to call them via the app, which I can’t access… BoM, your processes are a joke 🤦🏼

      • And further, I can’t even chat with their virtual assistant in the hopes of reaching a person… without logging into the app.

Is anyone else encountering this BS?

People considering signing up, I’d avoid it if my experience is anything to go by.

        • bwahaha. Just came here to write the same experience.
          That's pathetic.
Open an account is constantly crashes and AI chat is absolutely useless!
I seriously hesitant now to go banking/getting CC with this bank..

    • That sounds like a dream compared to the ANZ process
Edit: Also crashed after sending the sms code

      • I’m stuck in BoM purgatory unable to do anything - they’ve really fumbled the bag here.

Waiting to see if a card comes out so I can try a card number to salvage this but otherwise I’m done, will wait for Virgin Money to go 90k bonus.

        BoM = lame

        • Haha, I think I'm in the same boat. Nothing is working..

  • Ah crap! i churned from St George to BOM and approved yesterday, and came to check here to only realise I screwed up! lol

  • Do not redeem the points for multiple annual fee rebates!

I signed up for the St George one (I assume BoM is the same) and there is an option to redeem the points for an annual fee rebate. On the other (expired) deals there are people saying they were successful in redeeming points for multiple rebates e.g. 1x$279, 1x$124 and 1x$99. So this would have been $502 for 91300 points. They must have closed this loophole/hack. I tried this but never received the cashback. Just gave them a call and was told that you can only redeem one annual fee rebate per year.

    • You got literally nothing? Are you sure it wasn't just delayed?

      • Got nothing, it's been longer than 10 business days. I was told someone from back office will get in contact, so I'll see what happens then.

  • Does anyone have a link to the rewards store? Or can someone tell me if they have Amazon gift cards and how many points they go for.

    • If it's the same as the St George one:
      $50 - 11400 points
      $100 - 22800 points
      $200 - 45600 points
      $250 - 57000 points

      • Great thank you; looks like I could get $450 of cards after collecting 103000.

  • tried 5 times to sign up for a saving account.

  • +1

Applied the day this deal was posted and still waiting for them to "review my documents"

    • Took 4 days to be approved for me
Another 4 days for them to send out the card
Another 7 days for the card to arrive

      Not the fastest

      • +1

I was conditionally approved within minutes and now I'm still waiting for them to verify my payslips and bank statements.

        • 2 weeks and they are still reviewing your documents? How efficient they are!

    • Ditto. Still waiting.

      • got the card today. good quality. comes with all PDS which is handy.

        • How long did it take to receive the card after being approved?

          • @hohoisme: About 1 week

            • @tc423: Will the credit card account be available in netbank after activating the card? I can only see a Complete Freedom account and still waiting for the card to arrive…

  • Worth going through St George for the same card if people are having issues through BOM?

    • Much over muchness with bom, banksa and sat george

  • Applied tonight. Just uploaded visa and 2x pay slip which showed "In progress".

    "We need some information.

We’ll try to get back to you within 4-5 days. in some cases, this could take up to 7 business days.

In the meantime, finish any outstanding actions in ‘next steps’."

Anyone can share how long it takes to hear back?

    • +1

Took around 4 days before someone called me to ask some additional questions. Got approved on the spot.

      • Did you have the same message as mine when applied?

    • Called BOM on Friday and got it approved over the phone. Now waiting for the card to arrive which it says will take 5-10 business days.

Do they have a digital card that can be added to apple or google pay so I can start spending?

  • Does anyone know how long after the spend it takes to get points.

I'm thinking I might be able to dodge the fee since it hasn't been applied to my account yet.

If I get the points, spend, close, maybe no $49 fee gets applied?

    • AF dodging unfortunately was phased out a couple of years ago

  • Points taking forever. Met spending criteria on 23/09. Been roughly 15 days and no bonus reward points.

    • NAB is up to 120 days.

15 days i nothing unfortunately, i'd expect around 2-3 months.

    • +1

I received my apmlify reward points instantly, soon as i hit the minimum spend.

  • Has anyone had met the spending and still waiting for bonus points to arrive?

    • +2

I received my apmlify reward points instantly, soon as i hit the minimum spend.

      • Thanks for sharing. Just checked and the points have also arrived!

Any good advice on redeeming 100k? Not a frequent traveler though.
