    • Yeh, see my rant above on why my plan is still in progress since Wed arvo lol

      • how did they know you did these deals 7 times? Did you use the same credit card or what?

        • I’m actually clueless this time aha, maybe I’m pushing it too much over a short period

I did use the same credit card though so that I can get free Velocity points

          • @BargainsGrabber: I think I'll just use my business card, then personal, then debit in 3 different stores. Wish me luck. There's like 5 stores wihin 15 min drive from where I live.

            • @dichotomeme: Also when you pre-order the phone, do they ask you for details name and smth?

            • @dichotomeme: Its not about using different payment cards. They ask for your ID i.e. DL which is linked to ypur Telstra Account. So even if you buy 3 plans using different payment cards, all will come under one account linked with your ID. Having said that, I don’t see any issue with having multiple plans under one account. Give it a go.

              • @OZBsince2018: Lol, I plan to buy 3 then cancel, I guess I have to bring them in to do the deals lol!

                • @dichotomeme: I can understand you are planning to cancel. But what if someone genuinely wants to buy 3 plans and mobiles? I don’t think using one ID and one Payment card should create any issue.

                • @dichotomeme: If you haven’t learned how to drive, wouldn’t you also have an issue when they ask how long have you been employed for?

                  Sorry if I pre-assume that you’re young

                  • @BargainsGrabber: Im 19 lol, im in uni and I take public transport LMFAO. DO you think it would be ok if I showed my payment logs from my employer?

                    • @dichotomeme: Its an automated credit check done by the system. If rejected, there is nothing JB reps can do, no matter what proof of employment you may show.

                      • @OZBsince2018: Wdym by credit? Does that mean how much funds I have?

                        • +1

@dichotomeme: Not funds. They don’t check your account balance 😅
Its your credit check like employment history, any defaults, any prior contracts, loans etc.

                        • @dichotomeme: If you are only 19, your parent's are young so why don't you bring them to jb and sign up for the phones themselves using their details and ID?

                          • @odb: :skull: Im the youngest of siblings and they're reaching 80, was gonna do it by myself to void hassle, but now I've decided to bring them along. tomorrow afternoon.

                      • @OZBsince2018: Does the Telstra credit check process involve filling out things like your fortnightly income etc.? Or you simply put in your name hope for the best?

Asking because I'm making minimal from part-time work as a student at the moment but starting full-time work next year so repayments won't be a problem (gonna be cancelling anyway), but really want this deal and would like to know if there's any way I can "embelish" my credit.

                        • @dogsryummy: Your regular payment details (amount and frequency), job classification and work contact number need to be filled, but I doubt they do anything with it as I was approved and connected within 2 minutes at 7:30pm at night. I'd say you can say whatever. They didn't ask for proof (payslips) or anything.

                        • @dogsryummy: Name, ID, DOB, Employer name, how long have you been working, permanent/part time, monthly income etc

      • May be you are having issue because you “cancelled” 7 times. I guess buying multiple plans wouldn’t be an issue for those buying for the first time and haven’t done any cancellations in past.

        • Ive been a lurker on this thread, do you think they would let a 17 year old enter this contract? I'm so sad, I'm 3 months awy from being 18 and this is a rlly good deal :(

          • +1

@speziale: If you can't get it because you are 17, don't worry about missing the best deal in your life. iPhone will be coming soon, and then Samsung around the corner….it is just repeating itself every few months.

            • +3

@bobokingdom: I'm into real estate and there's a saying that goes "The deal of a lifetime comes around about once a month".

        • Probably but still doesn’t explain the $99 payment being cleared lol

          • @BargainsGrabber: Im reading comments from all the threads above, do you think JBHIFI would ccept it, but Telstra would deny it due to me being under the age of contract obligation?

            • +1

@speziale: Yh, I think u need to be 18 minimum for contracts. Rip.

  • Do you think if you pay your cancellation fee via amex you will be able to claim your phone under their broken screen insurance if you need to?

    • Pretty sure it would be the first amount you pay on the day you sign up rather than the cancellation amount. You get a receipt with the whole amount just offset by a $1700 online gift card. Will depend on the terms of the card though.

      • I'm interested in this as well.

My thinking is that unfortunately the insurance company won't accept that you paid for the phone using your credit card as the receipt shows it was paid using the $1700 gift card instead. You also cant say that the $1700 gift card was paid using the credit card either.

        —- edit —-
It will depend on your amex insurer conditions - my one (Citi) doesn't appear to care how the phone was paid for, only that you are paying a monthly mobille plan with the card fro that same phone.

I totally understand you, BG and I can see here that you order this last 14th of august. Please be advise that the order may takes up to 5-7 business days.

Since you order this through store. We highly suggest you to contact them or visit them if your order was stuck in progress on the 8th day. Because your order is still on the 3rd day , weekends is not included.

Best of what I can do for you is to fully take note
what we have discussed here so you can just provide them the reference number of our conversation to be immediately assisted, no need to repeat yourself.
    Would this work?

  • I want to get another sim to share the data with this plan, what is the cheapest option? Can I get a Telstra prepaid plan that can share data with this plan?

  • +1

    Just got mine.

    256gb 9pro xl
    Paid 174 upfront.
Activation took 2 minutes with a JB sim
Rep confirmed early cancel will be $800

$99 will be added to my Telstra home Internet bill on
5th September. Could maybe pickup the phone then cancel paying the full $800 and saving the $99?

Also got the gift card up front, seems like they changed the policy to pickup due to people cancelling sooner and collecting gift cards, but they saw my busted up one plus 8 and took pitty haha

    • 256gb 9pro xl
      Paid 174 upfront.

These figures don't add up, do you mean you got the 9 pro xl 128gb and paid $147? That is this deal.

256gb has an additional charge $150 - so would be an amazing deal if you got the 256gb for $27 more!

      • +5

It is a fantastic deal, the guy knocked the full rrp price for the 256gb to $1874 then applied the $1700 discount

I may have implied I was looking to buy the phone first to get the best price then "noticed" the voucher deal…haha

        • +1

Not only you got the RRP slashed, you also got the gift card upfront…the ozbargain lady of luck must be on your side

          • @evilhomura89: Lost the gift card on the way to the car, they will re issue it when I get the phone, I guess she's only half in my side 😂

            • @Lofty248: That's rough especially if someone else finds the GC and use it!

Make sure you ask them to cancel it ASAP to prevent other people from redeeming it.

        • I had the same thing when I did an 8 pro last year.

Got RRP dropped when they had similar promo on with the plan.

        • +1

good tactic.. i tried to ask for more but he said he couldn't because it was a "pre-order"

        • That's a great deal! I reckon you should get in on the lotto!

I just tried to ask for the same deal in store today but got knocked back as the sales rep consistently stating that it's impossible to lower the price on a per-order phone.

Tried again with live chat and they were asking for evidence (store name, order number).

Are you able to provide us with a receipt or some details?
          Will try again in-store tomorrow

    • +2

You would only save $65ish probably. because you will be paying $800 instead of $766 but hopefully not paying the $99, But still worth giving a go.

    • -3

I thought I read the T&C that the GC voucher has to be paid back pro rata if you cancel???

      • As stated about 20+ times in the thread, it does, to Telstra, and they have a $800 hard cap on the voucher repayment.

    • Hi, are you able to share your receipt for price matching? I can dm you if you turn on your dm's if you prefer. Thanks!

      • Sorry, away from home till Saturday otherwise I would have sent it! The missus is away to so I can't even ask her to snap a pic. 😔

  • 300GB per month? what is it useful for?

    • Youtube/netflix on the go

If there are any IP restrictions for downloads i.e. Mega NZ has 5gb download limit per 6 hours. You can download 5gb on your home internet, and then hotspot so you have a different IP and download another 5gb.

    • +2

They give you 300gb so you have to pay more… Before I cancel the plan, I'm going to make sure I use 300gb to get my money worth lel

      • +1

Yeah I'm doing that too lol

  • Signed up yesterday. As I have a boost 365 Sim all my details were with Telstra already. JB Sim was instantly activated on a new number. When asked about cancellation, the guy said becuase you asked he can tell you otherwise he cannot - mentioned Telstra only see maximum of $800 which is drawn down as you pay monthly. Went to the counter to pay and preordered phone.

  • -3

    what is its normal price?

    • Click 'go to deal' and you can see the normal price

  • I'm stuck on the dreaded 'in progress' too, signed up couple hours ago and the JB guy said it's usually instant 😕. No previous telstra accounts, and when I dropped past the Telstra store they said nothing they can do as they can't see the number in their system as it's a JB number - how does that make sense when JB said Telstra have to activate it?

    • Same with me… Was told to just wait and worst case re try on launch day.

      • Will the pre-order deal still apply on launch day though?

    • That happened to me when I went in yesterday. Waited 10 minutes, no go, so the JB guy cancelled that order and went through the process again and it went through. He put through a refund for the first $99 that had already been taken off my CC.

  • What are the chances that JB will have a similar promo on for the 9 Pro (regular/non-xl) when it comes out?

    • I think we all wish we knew the answer to this question!

As an aside, my assumption is that the lack of a pre-order option for the 9 Pro means that a release date is not firm for whatever reason. So you could be waiting a while for a 9 Pro yet…

    • +2

I actually went to the store and asked if I could order the pro non XL, and the staff said you can order from 21st, and the phone will be ready early Sept.
A side note. I had a web chat on JB website, and the operator told me the non XL will have the same $99 deal as that with the XL.

      • I wonder if they will do this deal for the new Iphone 16 dropping. 🤔🤔🤔

      • +1

I haven't seen pre-orders open yet online. I'm gonna head to JB hi-fi today and ask if I can pre-order the Pro

        • +1

Please let us know if you were able to do it at the store, thanks! I'm also on the same boat too

          • @pocketsfull: Seconded! I am not holding my breathe though, as the Google Store still has the P9 Pro as "Join the waiting list". The other P9 models were available for pre-order from both the Google Store and retailers at the same time.

          • +1

@pocketsfull: No information about the pro at all, not even why there is a delay or a release date. There aren't even display models yet. I'm probably going to get the XL today as the deal gets reduced by about $200 tomorrow and there's no information about the normal Pro having any pre-order deals

            • @Avarus999: @Avarus999 thanks for the update. Did you go in store and feel the XL in-hand? If so, what was your impression? I assume that like myself and others hanging out for the P9 Pro, we are thinking the XL will be too big.

              • +1

@space cadet: I felt the XL and 9 (non pro) on hand at the store and preferred the 9 (non pro) size and feel. I think the 9 pro will be in between the sizes. For context I have the 6 Pro and it's about the same size as XL except XL is way thicker so it felt bigger. Hope that helps

              • +1

@space cadet: It does feel a bit big but I decided to risk it anyway. I've always had the smaller phones so I think it may just be a case of getting used to it.

            • @Avarus999: That's so disappointing thanks for letting us know. I'll be waiting out for the normal pro. Hope you enjoy the XL!

              • @pocketsfull: Me too. Fingers-crossed it's not too long of a wait, and that JB does a similar deal for it as the XL…

    • Wonder what the discount will be? $1500?

      $300 JB GC?

      • I'd guess so, as this sits in the middle of the non pro and the XL. Will find out in two days.

        • They all end up with a very similar cost after $99 and cancellation fee. Personally I don't see the point buying the non pro. Either the Pro or the XL.

          • @edwardl31: Has anyone noticed this, the non-pro was relatively sluggish, test this out by swiping (down) to open the quick access bar (from the top). I tried it at two stores, and both had the same issue. I ensured both were running on the highest refresh rate, too.

            • @beOson: Google has sneakily force disabled 120Hz on the non-Pro Pixel 9 EVEN if you go to the settings to manually "enable" it. Last year on the Pixel 8 display models you could at least manually enable it but they've gone one step further this time round. Very sneaky, I experienced the same thing in-store.

              • @dogsryummy: That sounds more like a bug if it's still available in the settings menu, it's an advertised feature, and it's affecting more than one phone.

Google are no stranger to weird pre-release firmware bugs that are fixed by the day the phone actually ships. Some reviewers with pre-release units last year mentioned bugs that retail launch units didn't have.

  • What's everyone planning to spend the $350 GC on?

    • save it for when the next jbhifi ozbargain fad comes around

    • Towards Watch

    • +2

Will try if they will allow me to use the voucher on upgrading 256GB model to 512GB when I collect the phone.

      • Good idea! Might try that myself

      • Wait I thought you paid on the spot, do you only pay the $99 to Telstra when you preorder then pay the full balance when you collect the phone?

        • No, phone is fully paid with $1700 voucher and balance with card. I was referring to to try if they can allow to upgrade the phone on collection to higher storage and pay the difference via gift card.

    • I'm going to price match and buy any new release switch/Xbox games I want over the next couple years :)
