I have been watching this deal for over 4 days now and checked out the phone twice in person and loved the look of the 9 Pro XL, but am having a hard time convincing myself that going from Find X5 Pro to this is an upgrade. On my current phone, I can have a 'turn screen off & lock' icon on the desktop so I rarely have to use the physical button to do that, but I couldn't find a way to do this in the Pixels (haven't owned any Pixel phones before).

    • Ia this the only reason stopping you to upgrade? 😅
There are so many Screen Lock appa that can do this on any Android phone.

      • I'm hoping that is the only reason, but certainly there will be others like dual apps. Also, personally I have stopped using 3rd party apps for UI customisation.

        • You can do dual apps by using an app called Island. Alternatively, Android 15 is supposed to introduce "Private space" which should also replicate this functionality. You can also create multiple user profiles, but you'll need to switch between them manually.

          • @gamerkonks: Cool, good to know about this app, looked to be well integrated with Android. Does this allow cloning every single type of app?

            • @beOson: Yes. It just creates a work profile. Any app can be cloned. You can even have an app in the work profile and not in the personal profile.

You can create a task in tasker app and add shortcut to home screen to do this without physical button.

      • What is the tasker app? Could you please share a link for more info?

        • +1

It's an app used for mobile automations. You can download the app from play store and use AI to do the setup.

        • +1

Simply search for “Lock Screen” app on App store rather going through all the complications. Thats what I use on all my Android phones. It creates an icon on home screen that can be used to lock the screen.

Anybody knows when you can collect?

    • +1

She told me they already had the stock in the cupboard on Thursday night when I pre-ordered (she checked something to see if she could just give it to me then and there, but couldn't), and I just assumed that meant I can come in at opening like a usual JB pre-order. I'm gonna go just before lunch regardless if I hear from them.

      • Cool thanks, the store I preordered from didn't physically have them yet when I pre-ordered on Thursday.

      • Same thing for me. I was low-key told that if I called up on Monday, they might be ready for collection, but I didn't get a chance. I will call today to see what's going on.

Anyone else managed to collect early?

        • I was told I will get a text when it's ready for collection, let us know how you go!

        • @hjone72 did you call to check if the phone can be collected today? 🙂

  • +3

Saw someone in whirlpool who cancelled their phone plan and paid $800 before collecting the phone

    Is it Thursday yet?

Just wondering, are we able to redeem the pixel tablet offer from Telstra? Cos basically we are signing up with Telstra even though we sign up at JB

    • +1

No, it’s still 2 separate companies

      • Damn, I wish we could lol.

    • -2

Yes can't see any reason why not. I am also putting in a ticket for google store credit.

      • +1

What do you mean by that? How would you get Google store credit?

  • +3

Just signed up, existing Telstra/JB Mobile customer but signed up to new service. It's already confirmed and active and showing in the JB app. Only had to pay the difference for the phone minus $1700 gift card today. Rep confirmed max cancellation fee is $800 but my first payment on the plan won't be until 8th August to line up with existing service, so I may be able to cancel without paying first month? I'll pick up the phone and $350 gc first before cancelling. Thanks OP, great deal!

    • +1

Yeah in the same boat, I think you end up saving $65. If you cancel without paying any months the fee is $800, if you pay one month it gets pro-rated down to $766.

      • +1

Can confirm this. Just cancelled the plan, termination fee is $799.92 and don't have to pay the $99 first month. 10 days to pay from the day you cancel. Pretty decent deal. Got the Pixel 9 Pro XL 256gb for ~$1100 with a $350 gc. Ripper of a deal.

  • Where is everyone seeing if their order is still pending?

I logged into my Telstra account and there don't seem to be any services on there, but there's an invoice for $99.

      JB Mobile App

      • +1

        Thanks!

27 days remaining, so obviously active.

  • Can you order this at JB and pick up the phone in another JB store of your choosing?

    • +1

Yes, I managed to do it before for the S24 Ultra deal. Signed up in ACT, asked for it to be picked up in SA

  • +5

256 GB Pixel 9 Pro XL:

    $1,997 (RRP) − $1,700 (JB in-store discount) + $99 (Telstra plan 1st month fees) + ((23 × 800) / 24) (Early Termination Charge) − $350 (JB GC at the time of pick-up) = $812.67.

Not bad if everything goes according to the plan.

If using 15% off JB GCs to pay the $297, it would come to $768.12.

Now to read 10 pages of comments to figure out how to cancel..

    • great explanation, I went to JB and ordered one for myself. Thanks OP.

    • +1

I'll save you the time just go into the JB mobile app, get help, message us, cancel

      • silly question alert. I have to first put the SIM in some phone and activate it before cancelling. Correct?

        • I wouldn't think so. It gets activated at the store.

      • Ty. I'll wait until I collect the phone just to be safe.

I installed the JB app, signed in using my Telstra login and can see the new number under Services.

    • link to 15% GC?

      • Already Expired. People stoked up in advance.

  • +1

Do you need the Sim to be activated before doing the pre order? I saw that some people are still waiting after 48h

    • Yes, SIM needs to be active before you can pre-order the handset. For some people it takes 2 minutes, others seem to get stuck in the black hole of Telstraland and can take a couple of days to activate which means 2 visits to JB.

      • Does that mean that if not activated before the end of the offer (21/8) you don't get the $1700 voucher and $350 GC?! If so it's very risky

        • +1

No. You just need to sign up to their plan and if it gets activated after the promo has ended, you have technically committed to the promo

That’s what JB told me when I queried last week about my Telstraland

  • If I sign up for fhe $99 plan and dont put the SIM in my phone and fhen cancel later the same day, will i just pay the $800 cancellation fee? As by not using the SIM are your not agreeing to the terms?

    • +6

You agreed to the terms when you signed the contract. It doesn't matter if you use the SIM or not.
Most people are waiting until they get the phone + $350 JB gift card before cancelling the SIM/contract, just to be sure.

There's no advantage of cancelling it 5 minutes after you sign up.

  • Is trade in credit available under this deal?

  • So I dropped back into JB just now to see if I could cancel my stuck 'in progress' order and do a new one. They said no, it's past the point of no return - they called Telstra and now have to raise a case, with no ETA of a fix. Not happy 😞

    • Rip to me too :(

      • At least we're not alone!
They did say they've generated my $1700 voucher in the system though so I'm guaranteed the deal…..but surely if it doesn't activate this week they can't just refuse to cancel and try again?

        • Not sure on that part really. I’d imagine you need to be signed up to a service before this promo ends. Doesn’t matter when Telstra like to make your service “activated”

I’m on the JB chat rn trying to cancel my service since it’s not activated yet

          • @BargainsGrabber: Fingers crossed! They also said not good to cancel and start again as another credit check might affect my credit score 😕

            • @beemer555: They asked me to go into a JB store to cancel
And now Telstra has my $99 for a service that it’s not even activated yet

              • @BargainsGrabber: And yet when I went in to cancel they said no they can't do it!

              • @BargainsGrabber: So, after a phone call from JB earlier to tell me to 'be patient, we know everyone wants the new thing right away', I've been on the phone to Telstra for last half hour, seems they have a JBHifi Team. They're being very helpful - one of their portals on their end says my order is complete but another says still in progress, so they've said somethings definitely broken on their end and they're trying to fix it as we speak….

                • @beemer555: Thanks for the update - never thought to give Telstra a call since the JB Mobile app said they don’t have access to cancel or whatsoever

Keep me in the loop please :)

                • @beemer555: So, they're hopeful it will be sorted overnight and will call me in the morning to either confirm it's fixed, or to escalate further if it's not,and I have a case number. Can't fault the guy I spoke to, he was really apologetic. Shouldn't be this hard though 😕

                  • @beemer555: Did you call the generic 132200 number?

                    • @BargainsGrabber: Yes, asked for 'sim activation' and when I said its JBHiFi sim they transferred me to the JB Team, so you probably can say up front that's who you need 😊

                      • @beemer555: Thanks - I walked into JB and the dude has reassured me again that it’ll go through as it is a binding contract. Unknown ETA at this stage

                      • @beemer555: So I talked to JB team at Telstra and they asked me to let JB know to reprocess it but JB was being an ahole and they said they’ll let it progress by itself

                        • @BargainsGrabber: Ugh, that's sh*t! Actually, I'm now not sure whether it was the JB Team or tech that helped me - the very first girl said I'll transfer you to JB and if no luck, tech - first transfer nobody answered, second did so possibly it was tech. Tomorrow when the guy calls me I'll ask which team and his name for you, so you can ask for him if you want to try again. Something he did worked, as I just got the notification that my orders complete….so I'll ask him tomorrow for his details for you 😊🤞

                          • @beemer555: Thanks mate - yeh the JB in store team were a pain in the ass. I’ll avoid dealing with them in the future but rather I’ll go to a different store

                          • @beemer555: Not sure how many support tickets that they need to raise but here’s another one lol

We have already raise an Incident ticket for the delay on your order. Here is Incident ticket # INCxxxxx. Again we do apologize for the inconvenience that cause you for the delay of your JB Hi-Fi service.

I now have a chat ticket reference number for both JB and Telstra and now an incident ticket lmao

  • Which phone case are you all buying?

    • I purchased this and is pretty good

      https://amzn.asia/d/9jSxqwB

      • +1

I went with this one too. Went wild and got the marble grey colour to remind me of the Hazel colour I will never see again after putting the case on.

I always buy these MagSafe compatible cases for all my phones. Matt finish, slim profile but excellent level of protection. Their screen protectors are also excellent and finger print sensor works perfectly even with the screen protectors.

      • Nice except I pre-ordered the Porcelain phone. I don't think this black case looks good on it.

        • +1

They did have a similar case in Porcelain color for Pixel 8 Pro. So keep an eye as they may soon stock other colors too.

      • Can that magnet be used with a magnetic car phone holder?

        • Yes, thats the reason I always buy these cases as I have magnetic wireless charging holders in both my cars and these cases work perfectly with those. Magnet is pretty strong and I never had any drops even on bumpy roads.

      • This will be my first Pixel. Do you bother with a camera lens protector?

        • This will be my 7th. No.

    • Spigen thin fit

      • +1

I used to buy Spigen thin fit cases in past for all my phones, but since I installed magnetic wireless charging cases in my cars, I moved to JETech magsafe cases that I mentioned in my comment above. Spigen thin fit unfortunately doesn’t have the magnet otherwise its a very nice case too.

        • Yeah I just use android auto so no need for a magnet case. Seems like magnet cases are great if you use a phone in the car though.

Otterbox symmetry was also a great case

          • @Phesto: I also use Wireless Android Auto and Car Play, but the main reason for opting for MagSafe case is that my car holder is wireless charger as well, so it holds and charges the phone simultaneously without having to plug in the phone every time via cable to charge.

Might go for the quadlock, never had a phone that they actually made case's for and I'd like to give it a go on the motorbike. Will definitely pickup a vibration dampener for it though.

      • Used quad lock for 4 years with my pixel 5, still going strong
Defo recommend the dampener for the motorbike, my camera is fine still after riding the R6
Dropped my pixel 5 so many times, flat face down too, zero damage and Ive never used a screen protector

Ordered the quad lock for the 9 xl, hope I stay just as lucky with this one

  • I just took the sim card to my place of work and I get zero bars (also zero bars from Vodafone, but full bars from Optus). Might this help me with the cancellation? Will Telstra be more lenient when I can show that I can't use their product where I am?

    • +1

I don't think we need to state/provide any verifiable reason/proof for cancelling the service.

    • Last time I did this they kept asking why I was cancelling and I just kept saying "personal reasons". At the end of the day, I'm allowed to cancel the contract if I pay the cancellation and there's nothing they can do about it - but they'll obviously try 😆

      • +1

For the HN P8 Pro deal last year, I had to persist with the Optus team 4 times in a row that "there is nothing wrong, I just made a mistake and will happily take 'the loss' with the cancellation fee, nothing you can offer will keep me", before finally telling them "look, this is last time i'm asking you to cancel my service, if you don't help me, I'll just port the number, either way I'm gone" and it was disconnected in a literal minute after that.

It would have been easier and less head smashing against the wall to port the number but I didn't want to give yet another company my personal details.

        • I accepted the 1/2 price they offered for the phone plan when I tried cancelling. Same cost as cancelling, but paying it off over 2 years and get a second SIM with 100GB of data 😄

          • @gamerkonks: Not a big fan of paying things monthly when I don't need to/when it's not saving me money.

If I needed data, I would have kept it but I didn't. I use so little, I can get away with a yearly prepaid plan without having to baby it.
