Ohk. So you are talking about Flip…!!!

            • +2

@shxhshzhz: That's really confusing. Why are you talking about the Flip in a post about the Fold? You didn't even mention Flip in your post.

  • is it possible to get the first app purchase discount again? through like using another phone?

    • No. You have to make another account and use a different edu email address, so makes it difficult

      • You may be able to create a Microsoft Teams Team and use the email address provisioned with that. I'm pretty sure there is a way and most places don't disable the ability to create them.

  • +4

I also tested out the codes they sent via email for the non EDU site for those interested. The code is sent via email to those who registered.

I had to select a S24 Ultra to trade as the cheap $5 models would not work. Maybe they changed something or maybe there is a problem with their trade in site as it always has issues.

Registration Codes work on EDU sites as well.

    • Not getting that additional $150 bonus trade in for some reason and the buds pro are not free either.

Am I missing anything or is it the trade-in value of S24 Ultra. I am trying with a S22Ultra btw.

      • fine print - Please note if you do not redeem the full amount, your eVoucher will not be applied to your order and full amount will be forfeited.

      • That $150 additional bonus is on normal online store, plus Ecosystem voucher is also $450. But the price for Fold6 on normal online store is higher so EDU is still the cheaper way to buy.

  • Thx OP !! I saved extra $311 and paying only $1116.95 using samsung edu shop ( using my kids schools edu email ) stacked with $200, and $455 fold 4 trade in, extra 5% app discount, cheaper than $1422.65 trade in with bonuses in samsung store..

I'm patiently waiting for S25 Ultra

    • +3

      Why? Any big changes expected?

      • Unlikely to happen but I hope they revert back to the design of S21 Ultra which imo looks way sleeker than the S22/S23/S24 Ultras.

  • They really need to release these inline with the galaxy s line up, my immediate feeling seeing this come with the Snapdragon 8 gen 3 was disappointment.

It shows $1550 after applying all the codes through education store. How come yours is $1399?

    • Is it 1399 + cost of accessory for you?

I just added Buds 3 which are only $9 after the discount but the price is still high

        • the buds is 209 so yeah 1399 + 209. The 200 evoucher is already applied to the 1399 price so you need to add the full cost of the acccesory.

We needs more foldables in AU. tired of seeing 90% people using iPhones in trains.

      • OnePlus / Oppo had the best foldable on the market last year. Unfortunately, the price was too high in Australia, with very few incentives.

  • Is the Non return trade in still the same?

It is $60, the trade value should not be counted, because it is reduced when you buy it.

    • WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T SEND IN MY TRADE-IN DEVICE?

You have 7 days to return your device to Asurion once you receive your new eligible Galaxy device. If you do not return your device within 14 days, you will be automatically charged a Late Return Fee of up to $60, which is non-refundable. For customer who trade in the S24 Ultra for the extra $900 discount, they need to send in the actual working phone? Will they loose the $900 afterwards if they decided not to post it back? Thanks.

    • +8

      What do you think?

  • For those buying the flips and folds… Out of curiosity I have to ask why? They seem worse in every way than just a normal phone and/or tablet. More expensive, more breakable parts, lower specs. Curious on the actual use case you'd use it for.

    • +11
      1. The screen is bigger, easier to view Doc, pdf, sign something, easier play game.
      2. Thats about it

        1. Show off to iphone users
    • They are bigger than norml phone.

    • -3

When you straddle product categories, you end up compromising something or the other. The fold's are not as durable therefore you need to be careful all the time, cant use them with one hand, the camera's arent as good, you cant do normal bar phone things such as putting them up on a mount etc. The fold novelty wears off in a week and then it becomes a liability. This is coming from someone who got a fold 3, 4 and 5 on pre-order deals and sold them off in a couple of weeks at a profit mind you - because samsung phones are discounted 30-40% on day 1, their real worth anyway.

The other stuff that they rolled out aka the ultra watch and the true wirless buds are just an abomination - a temu copy of Apple. I would not want to be caught dead wearing these.

      • +7

A big reason why I like the Fold is because I can use it with one hand. I also have a Pixel 7 Pro and find it hard to reach across the screen easily with my thumb because it's so wide.

I also use it perfectly fine with my Peak Design magnetic car mount.

Interestingly the camera scored better than the iPhone 5 in MKBHD's 20-million-vote blind camera test. I thought the cameras were fine, but didn't expect them to beat so many others in a blind camera test.

The fold novelty wears off in a week

I'm not sure if you've used one; but you can see plenty of people are using this trade-in deal to upgrade their older Fold. They wouldn't be doing that if the novelty has worn off.

Everyone uses their phone differently; a Fold definitely doesn't suit everyone. But for the people it does suit, it's a great phone.

        • The front screen on the fold is too narrow to be of any use, especially anything that involves typing and then you open it to use the big screen where you have to type with both of your hands. When I say using it with one hand, I did not mean using the phone exclusively as one handed but certain action that you can take in a pinch.

Blind camera comparison's are utterly obtuse. Give me an image from a phone to be shown in a video and I can make it appear better my Sony A7RII's image - just increase the sharpness, apply hdr, increase saturation.

Samsung's own attitude to foldables should have told you that this market will never ever reach the volumes of a good bar phone given they are half a$$ing their updates. The Chinese have them beat comprehensively at their own game. I did not say this wont work for anyone but the market is really really small relatively speaking.

          • +1

You have to realise that not everybody is like you. Just because something doesn't suit you doesn't mean it's impossible for it to suit anybody else.

It takes away any prejudice. At the end of the day it's irrelevant if the photo was taken on an A7RV or Pixel 7A - if people like it, they like it.

            • @eug:

You have to realise that not everybody is like you. Just because something doesn't suit you doesn't mean it's impossible for it to suit anybody else.

When did i say that. I am just putting forth my POV just like you are.

It takes away any prejudice. At the end of the day it's irrelevant if the photo was taken on an A7RV or Pixel 7A - if people like it, they like it.

The only thing that it takes away is objectivity and makes it worthless in my opinion. Subjectivity is a constant anyway.

              • @dealsucker:

When did i say that. I am just putting forth my POV just like you are.

On that particular point, in your first post you said "you can't use them with one hand".

I replied saying a big reason why I like the Fold is because I can use it with one hand. I also said everyone uses their phone differently and a Fold will not suit everyone.

You then replied saying the front screen is too narrow to be of any use - even though I literally just said it was a big reason why I liked it.

So even though I just said I specifically like the front screen, you still insist that the front screen is too narrow to be of any use. That is why I said not everbody is like you - you might find it unusable but I find it a benefit.

The only thing that it takes away is objectivity and makes it worthless in my opinion. Subjectivity is a constant anyway.

Ahh I see, I think it all boils down to the two different types of photography people do.

I've realised that there are two approaches to photography - you can treat it as an art, or treat it as science. There's nothing wrong with either as it's just personal preference.

Sometimes I prefer photos that are technically perfect. Pin-sharp images, no barrel/pincushion distortion, no chromatic abberation, perfectly spherical bokeh, no noise, etc. For that I use my A7IV with Sigma Art or G Master lenses. Portraits, landscapes, astro, that sort of thing.

But when it comes to more casual shots I use lenses with more character, which really just means technically imperfect. Voigtlander Nokton Classic, Zeiss ZE, even cheap Chinese lenses like the Discover HD MC, etc. I don't want clinical perfection, I just want a photo with some character that looks "nice".

That's why for casual shots I don't really care too much about technical perfection - what's more important to me is that the photo looks nice. That's what a blind test provides - it doesn't matter what it was captured on, what matters is how it looks.

That said, some people do use their phones for non-casual shots so for them, a blind test wouldn't be useful.

So at the end of the day it just depends on the individual's use case - a blanket "it's not as good" statement isn't accurate because it depends on how it's going to be used and whether someone prefers clinical perfection or some character.

          • @dealsucker: The size of the phone does not mean noone else likes it. You dont speak on behalf of OzB

    • It would also be a nightmare to use in the car as well. You would need a cradle specifically designed for it as normal cradles won't fit.

      • -1

Really shouldn't be using your phone in the car

        • Perfectly legal to use it in a cradle for GPS.

          • @keejoonc: Just because something is legal doesn't mean it's a good idea. Many distracted drivers with legally mounted phones cause accidents, injuries, deaths.

            • +1

@Bruceflix: Uh thanks for stating the obvious? Using a phone in the car doesn't mean you are faffing around with it all the time, unless you are an idiot. Most people just place it in a cradle and turn on the GPS app of their liking and that'll be how most people "use" phones in their car. \

      • +2

I'm using a magnetic car mount. It works fine.

        • +1

dunno why you got a -ve for that, I use mine on a magnetic car mount too and it works well. Just have to use a decent magnet to make sure it holds firmly.

        • What do you put on the phone to make that work? Magnetic case? Sticker?

          • @aaron3: I stick one of these on the back of my aramid fibre case. I have a charging version of the mount. I also have the bike mount. The whole system is really convenient.

A friend of mine just uses a $25 magnetic mount from Amazon that uses one of those thin metal stickers.

        • Each to their own, but I personally hate sticking anything on the back of the phone.
It's ugly and often makes the phone even bulkier than it already is.

          • @keejoonc:

Each to their own, but I personally hate sticking anything on the back of the phone.

I always use a case; the thin carbon fibre case I use has a version that has the magnetic ring built in so there's nothing stuck on the back.

I can't use it as the PD bike mount needs to mechanically hold on to the phone case since a magnetic attachment wouldn't be reliable on a bike.

      • i have a special cradle for foldables. with more features than regular cradles too

wireless charging, auto clamp and unclamp, capacitive battery so works with car turned off
fits foldables and regular phones. can rotate 360 degrees

cost the same as a regular phone mount

Now i am not reliant on car manufacturers having updated maps or google/apple carplay
and i can split screen two apps (gps and music for example), have access to car/driving mode, 5G data, connected to bluetooth, all the apps in my phone, latest snapdragon

then undock, fold up into pocket when i leave, pull it out during work to take notes. Sync with onenote etc etc

people make accessories for flagships. who would have thought

    • If you prefer smaller tablets, you have no real choices in the Android world. I can see a user that wants a tablet and also can use it as the phone. I’m sure some users are happy to comprise in some areas for that. And these folding devices are much easier to carry that small tablet experience every where.

I got to say though, Samsung, Apple and others have really managed to get people to spend more $$$ on these devices and its impressive how they can draw people in to paying more with frequent upgrade cycles.

    • +1

I like that the flip doesn't fall out of my pocket. Regular galaxies constantly fell out and it drove me up the wall. I also don't need a case now that I'm not paranoid about it falling, and because the main screen is protected when it's folded.

The specs are way better than my old Galaxy S8, so it was still an upgrade for me.

My Flip5 has been rock solid for almost a year, nothing has broken. I believe they fixed the folding issues in earlier models.

It's not expensive when OzBargainers teach you how to abuse the Samsung voucher system and get it for $600. :P
