[Refurb] Dell Latitude 7490 Intel i7 8650U 1.90GHz 16GB RAM 512GB SSD Laptop $399 Delivered @ Australian Computer Traders

720

Hi Legends,

Came across this ripper laptop and seems previous deals on same model (but lower SSD) are over $500 and wanted to share!

Laptop is bloody high spec for under $400 ….. i7 (8th Gen) processor with 4 Cores / 8 Threads and 16GB RAM (DDR4 / 2400mhz) plus 512GB SSD.

As a general guideline Dell markets the Latitude models as "Business Performance", high processor and RAM specs means will handle multiple browser tabs, office applications with ease.

Only thing to be weary of is the battery condition, usually refurbs should be min 70% health but always hit and miss, can easily buy Dell or non-genuine (AliEx) and even upgrade to the 60Wh (unsure of what capacity advertised one is).

Comes with AC Adapter so nothing else you need + free delivery!

there's certainly similar for cheaper, picked the 7400 up for under $250 delivered recently (i5 16gb & touch screen), none left unfortunately

    • Yep true and good price for the 7400, only searched for i7's as a comparison, can drop down to i5's and probably find something in $250+ range

      • +1

Whelp, fwiw I bought the same spec 7490 brand new for $3k in Sept 2018.

Still rocking it but yeah, depreciation 😭

    • +1

As did I, absolutely outstanding machine for the price, flawless condition and battery is >80% not to mention 1 year warranty.

    • Where at?

      • +2

hybrid hardware in WA, they have an ebay store too which is usually cheaper

  • +3

Happy to be corrected, but this doesn't seem like that great a deal. I know marketplace is a bit riskier, but I got an 11th gen Thinkpad T14s for $260 in great condition not long ago.

    • +4

That sounds like an outlier, I don't think 11th gen Thinkpads regularly go for $2xx.

    • +4

there's always one seller on such sites who either doesn't know the value or wants a quick sale/stolen goods but it's not common to find

    • +2

Only looked at other 7490 deals as comparison, yep marketplace filled with gems if you are happy with the risk, 11th gen for $260 sounds like it fell off the back of a truck!! Great find

    • is this deal 8th gen?

what is the regular price of the 11th gen Thinkpad T14

    • +1

I couldn't find a single example of an equivalent spec machine on market place just now even for this price let alone cheaper. Maybe 6th gen I5 at best.

    Sus account.

    • +4

Nah ACT have an established account here, they certainly don't need to sockpuppet.

      • -5

That may be. But reports from users below indicate their after sales support is lacking. I was merely just commenting on the fact that this is OP's first ever post and comment. However, it is an account created in 2017..

        • For these vendors, this place is Ozdump,

        • -1

Their after sales service is outstanding, in my experience, as is their regular sales team. I don't usually go out of my way to big up a merchant, but for these guys I do (relax, I'm not associated lol), and I'm happy to support a local Qld business.

256 gb $272.22 if you have eBay plus and use code https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/266841585119?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

    • No stock

    • +1

I prefer the A grade notebooks.

    • one sold in 24hrs and OSS

  • +3

You can always get a new battery for like $70 and you are good to go. Brilliant value.

  • +1

Low battery condition always makes me weary

  • +2

Not much difference between i5 and i7 making i5 ones much better deal

    • +1

if there's little price difference, surely that would make the i7 the better deal?

      • For most general users day to day computing would not notice the difference in CPU. Is really only going to be conspicuous in specifically processor I tensive tasks like encoding.

  • +3

good price but not amazing, would be amazing if they put on ebay at the same price and we get 22% off plus member promo.

  • +15

last time i bought a dell 7300 A condition from this seller and it came with broken hinges, no rubber feet. two other thinkpads got deep keyboard prints on the screens and 6x% battery. contacting them to ask for a replacement was a pain. lucky that i bought through ebay so in the end i just used use the return function on ebay because the laptops was marked as “refurbished”. funny that the other fujitsu laptop in B grade i bought was in much better condition compared to the A grade ones, except for the battery.

    • +1

      Ouch

    • +5

similar shit for me as well.. hard to get any response… since then . I am avoiding this vendor..

    • +5

      Me too, totally agree!

    • +1

Good point. ACT can be hit or miss, and poor response, so best to buy through Ebay+ with no questions asked free returns. At least for laptops. I've mostly been happy with them, just don't expect good support. Or accurate descriptions always.

    • +2

Ive had a bad experience too with a desktop

  • How’s the keyboard on these?

    • As in general feel or refurb condition?

      • General feel

        • +2

Great name for a star Wars character…..

  • +2

    Worst seller,waste your money!

    • +1

      Care to elaborate?

  • +4

Someone feckless and ill-informed will be along soon to whinge about the processor and not good for gaming and won't run windows blahblah.

It'll do perfectly well. And Dells are good for driver etc support for years.

  • +1

Good price for the specs bump. I've bought loads of stuff off ACT (mostly through eBay), and I keep going back to them. Their after sales service is pretty amazing. I've had a couple of issues with faulty power adaptors post warranty, which have been addressed no questions asked.

    • +2

Same here. Had a couple issues (expected with refurbished/second hand) and they have been addressed without any dramas.

  • +4

This one offers slightly less ssd but it has a touch screen and backlit keyboard, but all other specs are the same and including Grade A status for for $350.22

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/305472325125?itmmeta=01J0FQDCGNB…

    • How much were the 32G version?

      • Not sure as that option was not available

  • -2

"Came across this ripper laptop and seems previous deals on same model (but lower SSD) are over $500 and wanted to share!"

Overstatement of the week and sounds like its coming from someone with ties to the company…..

Keep in-mind there's very little difference in performance between the 8th gen 'u' series i5 & i7 CPU's. Dell uses the same cooling solution for both.

    8th gen Dell 7490 for $399 + ~$70 (to buy a battery from Dell - I'd steer clear of no-name eBay/AliX batteries) isn't anything close to a 'ripper' deal.

$299 would be ok given it's 512GB SSD & 16GB of RAM… You should still factor in the price of a battery if you're intending to use it on the go..

I usually give away 7400 & 7410 laptops to secondary school students from disadvanged homes, as they're too good to throw away..

  • +2

    These apparently have battery problems

FWIW I bought two used Latitude 7390 in 2021 and they're still running fine with no battery swelling.

      • My 7390 2-in-1 battery went form 80% to cactus. No swelling though.

    • Yup. It's a known issue for quite a few models around that time. It's just something to consider if you don't know how to service a laptop, otherwise something to watch out for (if you are comfortable replacing, if you face this issue or for peace of mind). There are aftermarket batteries now for ~$70 (I'm sure there are cheaper ones), otherwise a new genuine one is around the same price (not sure if dell ever fixed the issues).

    • +1

Since that comment I had to buy another battery last month. This time I got the larger but slower charging battery "F3YGT" compared to the "DJ1J0". Cost is just $50ish per battery but I think my recycling and re-using attitude has reached its limits with this laptop model.

    • I think its a thing, my 7390 battery swelled a lot by about 10 months.

  • +5

This computer at this price is a terrible deal. By the time you take into account five years of battery degradation and wear and tear, knowing that you'll be up for a battery replacement sooner rather than later, you're far better off to buy this one instead:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/851413

Yes, it's a couple hundred dollars more but $400 for an 8th gen anything is bad value. Either go cheap and get a $250 8th gen i5, or pay a bit more and get the brand new 12th gen as above.

    • Correct. May work fine now but after 6 months? Spend 684 and happy for 3 years

  • +1

My workplace retired 2 Dell 7490 this year and I took them home. Both of them have battery expended and one of the touchpads was damaged by that. Replacing a new one costs about $50.

  • Can this do AI?

  • +4

Think very carefully before investing $400 on a 6 year laptop.
These can be enterprise grade laptops but laptops do break with 6 of use.

If you search you can find intel 11th gen 512 /16GB laptops on Market place for $400
10th Gen 8/256 GB laptops often go for $250 or $300 if 16GB or 512GB SSD

    • +1

Especially since these are company laptops, people don't look after them or take care of them as they would their own. So, most of the time, they are in poor condition. If you're lucky, you might occasionally get a good one.

      • +2

The three I have bought from ACT have all been in great condition.

What direct experience are your comments based on?

    • Any links?

  • +2

I don't want to be a neg but I bought a computer from these guys, i couldn't log onto it as it was reset from the medical centre it was previously used in. I had to send it back (annoying and time consuming) to get it swapped. The next one the disc drive wasn't working and a few months later a routine update froze the whole thing. I did a factory reset and then I couldn't login as it asked for a username and password from the same medical centre.

    • -2

If you live near the store it's probably a good deal

    • +2

This means it was previously managed using MS InTune by the medical organisation, and it wasn't removed from their account when it was sold or sent off recycling…

  • Still patiently waiting for an OLED refurb.

  • Looks like these are out of stock, we will have a sale on the Latitude 7410's happening on Wednesday stay posted to our website/ emails/ ozbargin for that.

    • What's the deal going to be?

      • Email goes out at 10 with the details.

        • I'm not subbed. Good enough deal to post here?

        • 10pm? not 10am right because i havent got it yet as of now 3pm

          • +2

@CyberMurning: its on the front page of their website. $399 for 7410.
