    Keyboard included?

    • +6

      Yes includes keyboard

      • Hi, i had a reply from your ebay store rep saying this goods does not include keyboard…..

        • Mine just arrived. Yes comes with keyboard.

          • @racer1234: Nice. Mine does not include keyboard indeed… unfortunately… will return.

  • I'm guessing on a unit like this, the 8GB ram is soldered?

    • Yes, ssd is easily changeable

    • +3

      Correct. It cannot be upgraded

    • +1

the memory is soldered to the motherboard, but you get one M.2 slot for storage upgrades.

      • +1

Not sure why the webpage shows

        Memory 8Gb
        Max Memory 16Gb

Does it mean there's an empty slot?

        • No, it means you could order it with 16gb soldered on instead, back in the day. It might mean if you're very, very handy at surface mount soldering and willing to ruin your computer, you could have a go at swapping it out yourself.

  • +2

FHD? This Surface pro clone is missing the best part - the high-res screen.
Look around and you should find a Surface Pro 6 with keyboard for not a lot more.

OP, what is the issue with your B-grade? Battery?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/204385829438

    • I think it's FHD+, 1920x1280 (3:2), 400nits.

    • +3

Yep battery and some extra scratches

  • +5

Yeah nah, not buying these without the eBay Guarantee and return.

  • +6

    Hey Rep,
Do you have any special deals for Surface Pro? Thanks

  • What's the different between these DELL 2-1 and the Surface Pro? For the same price range, DELL is using 10th Gen CPU and Surface Pro is 8th Gen.

    • +10

Performance wise, the raw difference between the CPUs on paper won't be much. Not all 10th gen CPUs are made the same, and these Comet Lake 10xxxU processors are basically the same as 8th gen chips, aside from the addition of a six-core i7 model alongside the retained quad-core variant. As far as these upper tier i5s go (3xx model as opposed to 2xx):

      • i5-8350U (i.e. Surface Pro 6) is a Kaby Lake-R SKU, 1.7 GHz base, 3.6 GHz turbo, UHD 620 GPU at 1100 MHz, 6MB of L3 cache
      • i5-8365U is a Whiskey Lake SKU, 1.6 GHz base, 4.1 GHz max turbo, same GPU and cache
      • i5-10310U (i.e. this Dell) is a Comet Lake SKU, 1.7 GHz base, 4.4 GHz max turbo, same GPU with a 50 MHz clock bump, and same cache

This is in contrast to the Ice Lake-based 10xxGy (e.g. i5-1035G4) which were entirely different products.

In terms of how that applies to the Dell in this deal vs a Surface Pro 6 for example, other factors that might impact performance are that the Dell uses LPDDR4 at 2666 MT/s, while the Surface Pro uses LPDDR3 at 1866 MT/s. The overall cooling performance may differ between the two, as might the default power profiles which will directly impact real world clock speeds and therefore performance.

Aside from that stuff it's mostly down to things like the displays, build, ports, etc.

      • Generally speaking it performance remains the same over multiple generations, you expect significantly better battery life, no?

        • +1

In some cases yes, but in this case these generations are essentially the exact same as each other with minor differences in clock speeds, so there is no fundamental difference in power consumption.

Intel got stuck on their 14nm manufacturing node for pretty much four years when it comes to their mobile chips, from Skylake in 2015 through to the launch of Ice Lake in 2019. Even then, their new 10nm node didn't have the capacity or yield to give them coverage for the entire market so Ice Lake was limited to the premium thin and light market segment. Intel therefore also launched Comet Lake at the same time, which is what's used in this 2-in-1 and is mostly just a refresh of their previous 8th gen Kaby Lake-R/Whiskey Lake chips.

          • @tmr3: Man. Fell off the train. Mind you I only recently moved on from a 2600k that was doing fine for 1440p gaming, paired with higher end GPU's, right up until the last couple years. Beast of a chip.

The 7800x3d though that replaced it….hoooo boy.

      • The big thing I see that the Dell has going for it are the Thunderbolt ports which can extend its usefulness.
That 8GB ram is still my biggest problem though with this machine.

        • Yep, some pros and some cons to either this Dell or a comparable Surface Pro, but IMO performance is a wash between the two.

Big plus points to the Dell for me for serviceability and ports. I'd guess the display on a Surface Pro would be quite a bit nicer though.

A 16GB model with a similar discount would definitely have my attention as a secondary device.

    • +3

I have purchased the previous generation of Dell 2-in-1 (Latitude 7200 with i5-8365U), also from Australian Computer Trader as well. I have also used various Surface Pro in the past, and I much prefer the Dell if you need to service it later — upgrading the SSD, changing the battery, etc. You can easily find the service manual on Dell's website and you can open it up with just screw drivers, unlike earlier models of Surface Pro.

      • Thanks for the advice, serviceability is an issue for Surface Pro. I have ordered one of this.

      • How strong are the magnets attaching the KB? I had one of those Lenovo chrome tablets and the KB was weak which meant I could sit on the couch and type without the KB detaching sometimes

        • It's strong, i.e. it does not get detached easily. I used it in bed & on the couch all the time. However for couch use I think I might still prefer the yoga style of 2-in-1 than tablet w/ kickstand + detachable keyboard, because of a more stable base.

      • In the same boat and yes, amen to Dell and those 2-in-1s :) Btw HP X360 is also a good choice.

  • I was a little bit curious until 8GB of RAM. Could be worse I suppose as these could be configured with only 4GB…

    • I still use a laptop with 8gb ram, and it seems fine for Photoshop and usual software on windows 11. Premier pro sucked though.

      • how goes more than 10 open tabs in chrome?

  • I have the XPS version of this (2K). I like it specifically for the detachable feature but lamented the relatively weaker specs (8gb RAM non-upgradable)

  • Does it comes with a Pen ?

  • +1

I've used the 7280 and they're fine, especially in this price range. 8GB is an obvious limitation but not everyone's use case needs more than that. Their keyboard is a bit more solid than the Surface Pro's too, and you get USB-C instead of the Surface Port you get on the SP6's you likely get at this price point.

  • +1

OP - can you drop price for Surface Pro 7 equivalent ?

  • Hi, just ordered from ebay, just confirming it is A grade same as ordering from website? Thanks

    • +1

      Yep same stock :)

      • Thanks! :)

  • Does this get hot bad? This form factor is not good for heat dissipation.

  • Does anyone know if windows hello face I'd works on this?

  • +2

    Any 16gb model?

    • +1

      Keen for 16Gb model too

    • +1

I'd probably bite as well for a 16GB model. Would make for a good replacement for my old Chromebook Duet.

  • +3

I have the older version of this - the 5290 8th gen with 16gb ram. The hardware is old but the build quality is superb. Handles the kids and general use in Win11 at reasonable speed and heat - the lower res screen probably helps with this. Potential downside for some is the limited ports.

  • Hey OP any deal on surface books?

  • How is battery duration ok for kids school?

  • This or wait for the surface pro deal?

  • I purchased surface 5 from these guys. Working great so far for 200$

  • Guys, would this thing be good as a HomeAssistant server or a PiHole equivalent??

    • I would imagine so… given the battery is above 80%. Built in UPS. But then again for home assistant if the power is out most of the devices are gone unless they are on an UPS.

  • Out of stock on Ebay. Still available directly from website without additional $100 discount

Just a FYI for those purchased, mine refused to charge or turn on.

Easy fix; just undo the screws on the back, pop the screen off. and there should be a little switch by the battery that needs to be switched to on.
I think the battery might have been replaced, but they forgot to switch the battery on haha. Hopefully nobody else has that issue though!

Was in really good condition apart from that though!

  • Ours arrived quickly and was in apparently good condition on arrival, despite the quite economical packaging. But we have not yet been able to solve the problem of keys that repeat randomly when pressed. None of the solutions suggested online have worked so far

  • Received mine. Battery design capacity is 37240mWh. Full charge capacity: 30651 mWh. Still a bit more than 80%. But during setup, the device shutdown without warning twice (was at 60% battery). Was there an issue?

  • 0/3 on good experiences from members on this one…

  • I received mine yesterday. The screen turns on briefly (around 10 seconds) , shows the Dell image then shuts down. Happens every time. Screen and keyboard are in good condition. Very disappointed. They responded initially saying to do a hard reset which didn't work. They have not responded again since.

    • Update, they contacted me today to offer a replacement. Hopefully the process will be smooth

  • 0/4 on good experiences now

    • Things aren't looking good. Wonder if @calmago will circle back….

  • Buy cheap. Get rubbish

  • Mine seems fine. Arrived quickly. Charged well. Battery 89%. Updates done. Happy.

  • We sold a few hundred of these. If anyone has any issue just reach out to customer support and they will assist.
