  • AMD Ryzen 5 5600U (2.30GHz 6C 12T, up to 4.20GHz) – Better than Intel Core i7-1355U

What the.. for real??? Also the igpu ? I thought the igpu on intel gen 13th is decent already

    Hmm google says
The AMD Ryzen 5 5600U is roughly equivalent to the Intel Core i5-1135G7 in terms of performance, with the Ryzen 5 5600U being slightly faster in multi-threaded tasks and the i5-1135G7 being slightly faster in single-threaded tasks.

Reviews also say the screen is too reflective, feels like a dealer breaker.

But it has replaceable ram which is nice.

      https://www.notebookcheck.net/HP-ProBook-x360-435-G8-AMD-in-…

      • Hey OP, are they really that reflective? I plan to be using the laptop to display at a dining table for Boardgame apps.

        • +2

Glossy screens are fine unless there’s a strong light source directly behind you. For board game apps at a dining table, you should have a good viewing experience!

Hey mate, we’ve shared the benchmarking from the website. Hope it’s clear. Here’s the comparison. thanks!

    • +1

They're not wrong though, featureset + efficiency wise its defintiely not better than a 13th gen i7, but raw aggregate performance wise it is marginally quicker than the i7-1355U

    • +1

Hey mate, we’ve only shared the benchmarking from the website. Hope it’s clear. Here’s the comparison. thanks!
      https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/4284vs5317/AMD-Ryzen-5-…

      • Fair enough. I’ve removed my downvote. But to be fair, for what people are going to buy this laptop for, ie general day to day stuff, the intel is a fair bit better due to single core performance.

        • +1

Yep first i thought seller made typo, intel gen 11th not 13th, more make sense.

        • +2

but what general day to day stuff is still single threaded? Windows, Chrome, MS 365 are all multi-threaded.

You did come out swinging without any real justification, which is why I commented.

          • @M00Cow: Somewhat true. It’s more complicated than that. But unless you’re doing something like video editing, single core is going to matter more to the average user.

    • umm maybe we have a different definition to the words "better" amd the phrase "not even close" to.you.

      CPU benchmark
      Ryzen 5 5600U - 15291
      i7 1355u - 14546

So this is better, but not by much, so it close..

I usually don’t get into debates, and I appreciate you sharing the numbers. All good on my end! 😊

      • -2

Single thread performance is about 20% better on the intel. For the purpose of what 90% of people are going to buy this for, that matters a lot.

  • How is the condition and battery health of this current batch?

    • Battery health is between 70% - 100%. Thank you

      • How about the condition? Are there noticable scratches, marks or dents?

        • +2

Condition is excellent and scratches are not noticeable. Thank you

          • @TechAlpha: Thanks, what warranty do you guys offer on these units?

            • +1

@TeddyBear: We offer a 90-day warranty covering hardware defects on these laptops. If you experience any issues during this period, please reach out to us.

              • @TechAlpha: I'm pretty sure you'll be bound to expectations under ACL - probably about a year for this price point and claims of condition.

  • perfect junior high school laptop. Got the G10 version and it works well. fairly rugged. Only issue was the trackpad which a software driver update fixed. Oh amd the small ssd, but the kids use OneDrive & an external drive for media

  • Is the on board gpu on this capable of playing games like world of warcraft comfortably on low/lowest settings? I was under the impression most ryzen cpus have reasonable igpu's but have not owned a ryzen and only ever had very low spec ones in the past?

      • +1

DP1.4 does not automatically mean you have eGPU support. These devices don't have a Thunderbolt or USB 4 port.

        • +1

Correct. My bad. I got confused with USB4 & DP1.4 for some reason

    • The 5600u is using Vega 7 graphics. It can play classic easily.

As for retail, it should be fine. It's like 20% slower than the IGPU in the steam deck, and people retail at 60 fps on the deck.

  • Pulled the trigger on this one, was looking for something similar to this.

5600u is a very capable processor, my only worry is the battery health, hopefully I will get one over 90%>

Stupid question though, does it come with a charger?

    • Yes. Also with win11 pro

  • +2

Gawt DAMN. For a budget this is a very nice value

  • What is the battery life for it?

  • I absolutely don't need a laptop but this is a very decent price for a very decent laptop. Easy upgrade on the SSD and RAM.

Anyone worried about battery can use a power bank - worth having one around anyway.

  • Anyone know where to get a cheap 16gb stick second hand?

    • I have a spare 8gb lying around, gonna use it with the 16gb.
I know only 16gb will be dual channel and the 8gb will be in single channel, still getting 8 more even as a single channel is better than only 16gb.

  • hmmm… was about to get a thinkpad x13 yoga gen 2 i5 11th for a similar price then saw this :s

  • Can anyone share their knowledge/thoughts on using this laptop with a pen/stylus eg the HP Pro Pen? (but hopefully I'll find a cheaper and/or better example of pen, that's just the first search result):

    https://www.lwt.com.au/Product/HPE4195074/8JU62AA/HP-Pro-Pen…

It's not the primary purpose of the laptop - mostly just domestic web surfing, emails, light office use. But, would like the option to easily mark stuff up etc. Also I have a mild neurological condition that is impacting how easy it is to type. It's also impacting how easy it is to write, but I just want to have options.

    Thanks.

  • Wow, we're already on the 5600u generation? I consider this tier of apus to be adequate to daily drive, including gaming on the IGPU.

It's a shame that 6xxxu was very rare in laptops, otherwise, we'll have steam deck level laptops for $400 bucks in a year or two.

  • Damn where was this deal a month ago! Just bought a latitude 5330 i7-12 for a similar price

  • How much will it cost to change the battery if it is faulty?

    • +1

Genuine batteries can be found on eBay for around $80 and they're fairly straightforward to change.

  • Anyone had luck getting the deal, for me price is coming as 499 and unable to apply any coupon.

  • TechAlpha @Tech Alpha Australia ?

  • Not.a.gamer at all. Would I be better off saving $100 and getting a 10th Gen Intil?

  • very clean unit arrived today, battery 77%, 490 cycles.

  • Laptop was very clean with minimal scratches. Battery was 86.2% with 110 cycles. Pretty happy with it.
