        Let's let Australia decide.

    • +35

Huge AFL fan here, and not a soccer/football fan at all. I've learnt to call it football for 2 reasons:
      1. The rest of the world call it football
      2. Except the USA

      • +9

        If only to spite America

        • +3

Reason 2 is enough for me ;)

        • Was originally called soccer in the UK, Americans called it soccer to differentiate it from gridiron football (which ended up being called just football).

A few other countries call it soccer also.

          No one cares.

          • +6

@TEER3X: So 'soccer' is slang, it was an abbreviation of Association Football (ASOC >> SOCcer) and it was originally a slur to football fans (poor, lower class). You definitely DO NOT call it soccer somewhere like Liverpool or Manchester. For the record, it's called football.

          • @TEER3X: Just out of interest the source for your comment is ?

          • @TEER3X: many people care, its branded as football in Australia not soccer

      • +1

The Irish call it soccer from time-to-time, as well…

      • +1

        100%.

Any nation that eschews the metric system because it’s too difficult to comprehend, and so they can align themselves with those other paragons of weights and measures, Liberia and Myanmar, deserves to be mocked…

    • +2

Obviously not a real king with this sort of nonsense.

      • +2

        Watch your tongue, serf

  • +8

You would have thought this would pack out for the Ange home coming.

      • +1

Wtf they gave Man City the hardest game of any in the run in

        • -1

so you saying they didn't lose on purpose

    • -1

No one cares about the coach.

  • Free tickets.

  • Will it be shown live on SBS ?

    • Live on 10 Bold

    • +14

      Its live on 10 Bold

  • lol

  • +3

They give out free tickets now and today?

  • +10

What a shock Tottenham vs Newcastle isnt selling out the G…

    Shouldve been at Aami.

Mcg the worst place to watch soccer, especially an exhibition game between these 2

    • AAMI doesn't have as much premium or top-tier seating. MCG has plenty of boxes to fill.
Even Marvel has way more corporate premium than AAMI and Marvel is also bad to watch a soccer game.

      • +2

Since the installation of the digital signage around the boundary, Marvel is no longer about to be easily convert to rectangular mode. During the installation of the signage, the supplier was not aware that this would be a requirement. Switching to rectangular mode likely requires completely removing the signage and reinstalling it. This is why the venue doesn't convert to rectangular mode any more.

    • Yep.. saw United v Melbourne City, and the layout was horrible.

    • 100%.. Watched man united last year in box with unlimited food and beer that my friend gave me access to. I still didn’t enjoy it. Too far away to get excited!

    • +1

80,000 at the game last night, that's the reason it wasn't at AAMI. I agree though, terrible place to watch "soccer", I was there and it's hard to get a real "soccer" atmosphere going. COYS

    • Crap stadium for soccer and two teams that won't give a shit in a friendly right after a long season. Really not surprising they're giving away tickets. I hope this is the start of the end of these teams extorting Australian football fans for what is usually a shit game where they make 11 subs each.

  • +4

I'm a little surprised how fast the friendlies start

    • You couldn't even classify this as a pre-season friendly. It's just a payday for the two clubs, similar to Roma vs AC Milan next week in Perth.

      • Who is making the payment… And why?

        • The promoter is TEG Sport, parent company is a US private equity firm (Silver Lake).

    • Yeah its a little odd. 40 week Prem season ends on Sunday and a friendly is being played 3/4 nights later and halfway around the world.

      • +3

It will be because the organisers will have had stipulations in the deal that some/most of the star players are involved, and with the Euros and player holidays this was the only time the teams could guarantee that.

      • +1

        $$$$

    • +1

The Euros start pretty soon so they have to get these games in early.

  • Looks like it's all the nosebleed seats. Still, pretty good value for $0.

  • +5

People finally starting to cotton on to these glorified training sessions then?

    • Not even that this time, with it coming right after season end. It's more like a wind-down exercise.

    • Obviously not, 80,000 there last night

  • +1

    Cheer up postacoglu…

  • +6

I'm loving Big Ange instead! 🤗

  • -2

Lol, so easy to play against any of Ange's teams. Just park the bus, counter attack and exploit the high defensive live. 1 trick pony… no wonder they didnt even qualify for CL.

    • +1

You should have told Glasgow Rangers, they didn't get near him in two years.

      • -1

That tactic may work in the lower tier european leagues like scottish which can't afford fast fowards. But try that in the premier league, la liga, bundesliga or serie a and you're gonna get pwned. World class managers in those leagues adapt very quickly.

        • +3

Some how still finished above untied and Chelsea 😂

        • So "getting pwned" means finishing fifth in the Prem. TIL.

      • +1

in a shit league it works obviously

have you missed all the 4-0 drubbings your Ange got?

    • +1

He overachieved by finishing 5th. No one predicted that pre-season. And I hate Tottenham.

      • I reckon that was his expected minimum requirement or he wouldn't be there next season.

  • what do you think of tottenhammmmmmmmm

  • Looks like a scam lol

  • +10

My friend who is spurs fan wanted to drive from Sydney to watch the game. He asked me to borrow my car, apparently his car doesn't have a cup holder.

    • +1

What happened next will shock you

    • Make sure to check the pressure of the tyres.

  • +3

Having to give away tickets to watch Tottenham? Sounds about right.

    • +4

      next season fc talking

      • +2

        We go again FC

      • ngl, it is nice having something to look forward to next season

  • Thanks OP. I grabbed some.

  • small club

    • +8

They won the same amount of major trophy as arsenal 😂

      • something to be proud? small club

        • 😂😂 arsenal fans are easily rattled

  • After a full season combined with jetlag would mean players wont want to play much..

  • +13

If they had offered free tickets yesterday, I could have planned my day to be able to go. It's too late for me now. It takes about an hour for me to get to the stadium.

  • Whats the usual price?

  • Dammit! Missed out.

  • +5

I'd be pissed if I bought tickets to this. MCC were trying to charge $139. If they weren't so expensive I would've bought a ticket, instead they need to give them away for free to make the stadium look full

    • +1

I paid $200 for my tickets. Had great seats on level 2 M52 so can’t complain. Now just thinking if the same will happen for the Friday match at Marvel Stadium…

      • How was it? A was a little shocked to see Newcastle start such a strong side. I opted against tickets thinking they'd just bring their kids.

  • +1

So are we expecting freebies for the Saturday double header? Plan for some to come up around 2-3pm?

    • +1

      who's playing here?

      • Men’s:
Newcastle United vs Australian All stars
        Women’s:
        Arsenal vs Australian All stars

        • My mistake its on Friday.

        • We have Stars??

    • +1

      Friday*

  • It's Hotspur not Hotspurs..
