    Thanks

  • +3

Thanks OP. Confused as to why this tournament is happening but I'll tune in. Games are on at nice times too

    • +5

The ICC would know best, but it seems like an excuse to enjoy some exciting cricket during a lull. Maybe they also wanted to keep things going until all participating boards get their fair share, especially after one nation's recent dominance in the ICC.

      • +2

It's a fundraising event for junior teams, as you say they just kind of slot it in wherever when there's a lull. But limiting it means there's no "boring" matches, but the funds go to the lesser teams in cricket.

IMO I like it, better than more T20 being crammed in.

    • +1

Yup at least I will pretend to watch half the match - if I am not wrong the 1st innings would go past midnight.

      • South Africa's innings against Afghanistan last night (batting first) finished a bit after 11. Went the full 50 overs.

        • Assuming Afghanistan still fields 3 spinners, that'd make sense.

      • +1

Sorry just realised you’re probably in a daylight savings state. Then yes it was just after midnight.

  • +11

We wont make it to the finals

    • +5

Not with the rubbish side we've dished up for the tournament, no.

    • +1

      more
we dont care if we dont make the finals

      world cup or nothing

      • 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • +4

We've won 6 ODI WC in 5 continents, none of this only winning at home rubbish (or in England's case winning on boundary countback). It's an absolute disgrace that we even play in this resurrected hoax tournament. I can only imagine it's been added now so India can win something. I was at the last ODI WC in India and it was glorious. They thought they'd won it before the final.

      • +2

100%, the arrogance on display in that tournament was astounding, was probably Australia's best WC victory to ambush India from that perspective (and I've seen some fantastic WC wins from them, 1999 probably the other standout).

        • +4

I agree it was the best, and like you say a lot of the others were impressive. I mean Australia won 3 WC in a row, all away from home and all (relatively) comfortably so by no means is it a given but it was special.

          • +3

@kiriakoz: Not sure why you’re getting down voted both of your comments as they are correct

Suspect it’s some of the butthurt Indian fans still miffed from the World Cup loss :-)

            • +6

@dinglejerry: I know exactly why I'm getting downvoted and I'm here for it - it's literally a nation of 1.5 billion who are obsessed with cricket but barely win anything. They can have the downvotes, we have the World Cups (and the WTC).

              • +1

@kiriakoz: Yeah, given the leg up they get from the ICC you’d think they’d have won a lot more by now

          • +1

@kiriakoz: That was a really good win given the arrogance on display. Pat is a legend when he let them know.

      • -1

The tournament is a ‘Disney’ one. No one gives a shit about it. A bloody GIMMICK of a tournament! “IT’S A GIMMICK‼️”, I used to say to mates.

      • -5

India just won the T20 World Cup and they absolutely destroyed everyone they played against in tbe ODI World Cup including Australia. Pressure just got to them in the final. Australia are a rubbish white ball team who just lost an ODI series at home against Pakistan. Coping much?

        • salty tears

        • -1

Yup. The Aus team supporters conveniently forget the disgusting and disgraceful “Sandpaper”, “DRS”, “Fake catches”, “Underarm bowling”, “Personal sledging” and favourable decisions by Umpires……etc for 2-3 decades. I had my most favourite Aus cricketers from that era but it’s a shame they chose to win at “any cost” with that immense talent. The most funny thing is the Aus fans can fill up all the oceans with their baby crying when you bring up the history 😀

        • insert MJ laughing gif

        • Pressure just got to them in the final.

Pants pulled down in India by Australia in the World Cup.

Pantsed again in the recent test series in Australia.

          Ohh! ….. the pressure.

          • -1

@jackspratt: Interesting how you conveniently forget to mention the most recent World Cup last year which India won and fittingly knocked Australia out of the tournament. Australia didn't even make it to the semi-final. Also, interesting how you left out India's dominance in test series for over a decade where Australia couldn't even register a test series win against India both home and away. Meanwhile another ICC trophy loading for India in the current Champions Trophy..

            • -1

@merajaan: Pressure free hit-and-giggle - no glory in winning that. 🥱

What does India's record in the World Test Championship look like?

Let me help - flogged twice. Must be all that pressure.

        • -1

Anyone who compares T20 to Tests (one WTC and in another final) and ODI (6 ODI WC) obviously doesn't understand the absolute basics of the game. Australia won the 2021 T20 WC. Do you know what the deciding factor was? The toss. It can be entertaining, but there's a lot of luck involved. No team has even won two in a row, so it's a lucky dip.

I'd give India more credit for winning two test series in Australia than a T20 WC. Sadly, they were chokers and couldn't win the resulting WTC final in both of those cycles, so you can't really brag too much.

  • Shame game aren't on free to air these days, stops the sport from growing

    • FTA is now mostly for those paying US tech giants, while networks like Nine face financial struggles. The era of truly free sports broadcasts seems to be over.

    • +1

Just had the Sri Lanka tour on fta and it wasn't even in 1080p why bother

      • yes it was.. 7Mate HD had it on

        • +3

          That isnt 1080p

    • +1

If you ever wanted a textbook example of how to ruin the public interest in a game, use the ICC's treatment of ODI cricket over the last 15 or so years. Hundreds of meaningless matches, putting the game increasingly behind paywalls, encouraging a huge imbalance between bat and ball… the list goes on.

Growing up it was ODI cricket during Australian summers that caused kids all across the country to want to play the game - most of them don't even get to watch it anymore.

      • -1

        Yet more kids playing cricket

    • -3

🎶 What about ‘Free’?.. It isn’t fair, we’ve had enough now and we want our sports on for free. Can’t u see streaming services we want to live, but u just make more than we watch to give.🎶 Shannon Noll the (profanity), who has no talent. And never had.

    Free for Prime Members

So this is just an ad? Just as saying, "Baby Reindeer" free on Netflix lol

I thought everyone knew that Amazon snaps up rights to cricket World Cup games till 2027, might as well call that a deal ;)

    • +8

Not an advert—just shared since I missed the first two games myself. Thought it might help other fellow OzBargainers like me who didn't know it's being aired on Prime Video.

    • -1

Thanks to uncle Jeff Bezos, right⁉️ And for them to take control of the 007 - James Bond franchise.

  • Way for the ICC to make 50 over matches even more irrelevant .. give it to prime… On a side note anyone watching the coverage in 4k get motion blur using the prime app for the cricket?

  • +9

India behaving like little bitches about this tournament.

    • What they sooking about this time?

      • +3

They dont want to put the name pakistan on their shirts even though they have to according to the governing body or play games in pakistan so games get moved to Dubai.

bringing shame on the great country of India

    • +6

How? By playing their matches in Dubai? If thats making them little bitches, then South Korea should play regular football with North Korea and Armenia should play with Turkey.

      • +1

Yeah now that would be worth tuning into

      • +2

Its not a regular match, its an icc tournament, i havent heard of any such scenario where both koreas qualified to play in international sport and they refused. Pretty sure armenia played turkey in UEFA qualifiers and FYI, they dont even have diplomatic relations unlike Pakistan/India

        • There is lot more going (since ages) despite of diplomatic relations between the two countries. It's not just a squad of 15 players and another 15 staff members who will come to play cricket. There will be fans and families of cricketers, too much to vouch for their security!

        • -2

Fix your country issues with Te..orism than speak this. India does have a say coz we dont want to send a team of stars and not come back lol! I am sure your team would hope hope this team gets wiped off coz its a great one lol

      • +2

Forcing not only the hosts, but every other nation who have to play in the host nation, to come to a different country where you can pick a dedicated squad for its conditions is the definition of an uneven contest. They should have been withdrawn. I'm sure it won't make a lick of difference, but I'm refusing to watch their games.

    • +1

The Aussies will if the umpires don't favour them / their decisions, like the last 35 years 😂😂😂

    • -4

@ChristopherScott Oh look it's another anglo who feels qualified to comment on Indo-Pakistanni relations slow clap

FYI After the terrorist attack on Mumbai in 2008 which came from Pakistan, a similar attack in 2010, was to take place at the 19th Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi but was thwarted. After the Mumbai attacks, as well as the 2009 attack on the Sri Lanka national cricket team, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) prohibited Pakistani players from taking part in Indian Premier League and India refused to play Pakistan in any bilteral series apart from in ICC tournaments.

ICC made the decision to hold the tournament in Pakistan and it's understandable that India wont want to play there for safety reasons. Hell Australia hasn't toured Bangladesh in ten years because of safety concerns. The safety threat to India in Pakistan is on a whole other level

      • It might be understandable for them to not play in Pakistan. It is not understandable for them to not only remove the host's home advantage, but get a bigger home advantage than their own World Cup, given that they can pick a squad specifically for Dubai conditions while every other country has to prepare to play in both Pakistan and Dubai.

Your Australia in Bangladesh comparison isn't relevant for two reasons. First of all, it's been eight years not 10, and the planned tour since then was cancelled due to Covid. More importantly, when this scenario has occurred in ICC events previously, the country with the security concern has forfeited (cost NZ a semi and England a top 6 spot in 2003, and gave SL free passage to the quarters in 1996). Then you've got the case of West Indies Women not going to a World Cup in NZ because they viewed NZ as indirectly supporting apartheid. If India had legitimate concerns, they should have withdrawn. We know why it didn't happen.

    • +7

nah Yankees like to play themselves call it WC bahaha

      • -1

"Cricket was effectively a tool of colonialism, much more than just a sport for sport’s sake. Cricket and everything it stood for came to be used as a mechanism to distinguish between a civilised ‘we’ and an unworthy or uncivilised ‘them’."
Not Quite Cricket? – Cricket's relationship with British Colonialism

        • The best thing about that whole article is the last paragraph, and now all other countries get their chance to woop royal ass in Cricket lol :)

    • +1

Could you imagine watching a shyte sport like basketball in an even worse league than the NBA? What kind of itchy clown would do that?

    • +5

Yanks played T20 World Cup last year

    • Cricket is too free flowing a sport for the Yanks 😂

    • Cool. Let's follow what America is doing these days. They're killing it.

      • Go Uncle Donnie‼️🤡

      • +1

Last I checked, they were not so good at hockey. Canada better ask that Orange Jesus to be their 11th

  • are the replays also on prime? games are too late for me

  • -1

    Is this 4k?

    • Delete

    • Yeah, aussies suffering in 4k 😉

    • Unfortunately 1080p only. You would think with Amazon and all their streaming clout, they would have sprung for the 4K feed

    • -2

What a shame! If only you could have colonised poms' country and now you could/would have let them rule cricket! Yep you had got it over already.

  • +6

As long as we flog the poms tonite thats all that matters

    • +1

Of course. BTW, Aus vs Afg is also being mentioned in the press as a grudge game for some reason.

      • +4

Not sure why, but maybe because Afg should have beaten Aus at 2023 World Cup, except for Maxwell 201*

        • I guess thats because how Afghanistan performed last year in T20 WC

      • +1

Australia refuses to play Afghanistan outside of world tournaments. From memory their refusal to play Afghanistan is due to Afghanistan's refusal to let women play.

        • When I say refusal to let women play, I mean women playing sport will receive the death penalty and be beheaded, just to clarify

          • -4

@picket23: Meh its just sport more important things for women to do especially in Afghanistan

          • @picket23: Really?… What a load of shit‼️

  • +1

Oh yeah show those brits what fore. Grab me a pint!

    • Aus and England still have plenty of power over the smaller countries still. Now there's just a third country that can do it too, and to a greater extent.

BCCI are terrible in many nations view and their control isn't just over the Brits, it's over all of the smaller nations along with Pakistan etc.

    • +5

That’s why u lost the last WC final at home to the Aussies. 🤣😂🤣

      • With bought out umpires and chuckers including warne 😂😂😂 sure

    • +1

      India are chokers

  • +4

I pay for 1000 mbps NBN get full speed have it to max quality and settings its not even watchable. Seriously why bother buying the rights to games if cant provide proper picture and at least 1080p streams.

    • +1

I have no issues with the broadcast so far. I am just happy that I am not spending money on kayo or watching on FTA with kids where the marketing idiots start showing their promos of marriage at first fight or some other really inappropriate promos when families sit down and watch such events like AO. I am looking at you 9.

    • +1

Very true. They must be doing a shit job as I'm watching it in 4K ATM through other means.

      • Hey where I watch this in 4k mate?

      • 4k is the only way for games like this

      • I figured out the issue, Amazon don't want you streaming through your browser, they want you downloading the prime video app (for windows). I did so and steaming is perfect.

  • +1

Oh my…just had a look at team where the heck are spinners just Zampa?

    • +1

      Zampa, Maxwell, Short, Labuschagne 😂
