  • Is it okay if I already have Prestige card ?

    • also want to know this

      • +2

Yes, usually they dont have issue with that, unless you have loads of other cards.

  • I closed my premier card back in 2020. Am I eligible for the bonus points again?

    • +1

Yes. Citi don't have a grace period. I've owned both premier and prestige at same time and got bonuses for both.

      • +2

the condition says "New Citi Premier Credit Card customers only" though?

Im not a new customer anymore since I already owned one 2 years ago.. hmm

have you applied multiple times over some time?

        • +1

Would love to know as well

        • +2

Standard T&Cs from any credit card deals. It's basically mean "the offer not available for current active account holders of the same card", ie you can't claim for the bonus if you're currently having this card and managed to meet the spending requirements.

Source : I've been repeatedly applied (at least since last 5yr) from virtually all the big4 for same type of card every year. They all had that same statement. No problem getting the bonus points.

The only term that you should avoid is when they said something like "not applicable if you have owned this card in the past".

          • @timhn: What if I'm already a supplementary card holder of this same card (Citi Premier)?

            • +1

@lilsmilingstar: You'll be fine. You're not their customer of that card, the primary holder is the one.

      • Do you know if this also applies to downgrading a premier card to their no fee card? Would I be eligible for the sign on bonus again without closing my cards with citi fully first?

        • I would say so yes, but good if you can confirm with them. They are quite good.

    • +1

I have closed my prestige and applied the next day for premier and was all fine.

      • +2

prestige and premier are different products

  • +33

Come on now, 8k? These spends are getting too much

    • +8

You can likely do it through PayAll, which attracts a 0.95% fee. So would cost $76. PayAll was how I covered the 10k minimum for the prestige card.

      • +11

PayAll is love, PayAll is life. Won't be messing with my setup till NAB nuke it

        • So in theory could someone use payall to make payment to another persons bank account, and (1) earn points on the transfer and (2) have the payment count towards minimum spend?

In the past I've heard of purchasing gift cards through varuous retailers that count towards spend and points. But pay all is new to me.

          • +7

@SummerZero: Lots of people have PayAll set up to transfer the limit of $20K to their bank account, collect interest and 20K Citi point, then pay it off before the statement is due. Prior to late last year, PayAll transactions attracted a 0% fee. Plenty of people still have recurring PayAll transactions running.

            • @no not me: Thanks. I'll be coming back to citi at some point so it's good to know the ins and outs of this stuff.

          • +1

@SummerZero: Would be good if we could get some clarification from OP @pohaau on using PayAll to count towards the minimum spend.

            • +2

              @ee380: it does

            • @ee380: There's a deal with over 100 pages discussion on this. I think that since 2022.

              • +1

@timhn: So is it 100% the case that PayAll still counts towards the minimum spend?

                • @arcticmonkey: Yes (unless they changed the T&C). done it on citi's premier, prestige, and reward card.

                  • @twistedbow: Can confirm this works. Did payall transfer and within 30 days for the points

                    • @Titan84: @Titan84Thanks for confirming. I did the transfer via Payall and showing 8k points not the bonus points yet.
I believe 30 days you mentioned is for bonus points isnt.?

                    • @Titan84: HI, 30days from the payall transaction or it will be added during monthly statement?

Payall transaction date- 23/05, Statement date - today but not bonus point yet.

      • Can you use it for tax payment

      • +1

I used Sniip previously to pay tax bills (helps meet my minimum card spend, albeit at a steep 1.5% fee). PayAll got me interested due to the lower 0.95% fee.

Does PayAll work similarly to Sniip?, i.e. pay my tax bills through PayAll, incur the 0.95% fee, earn points, and pay off my closing statement balance by the due date to avoid interest charges? Or is there something more?

        Thanks.

    • +11

Sadly, I have noticed my monthly expenses going up a lot in recent months/years (and I'm sure I'm not the only one), to the point where I no longer think $8k in 3 months is that excessive…

      • I gotta say it's at least possible I reckon to do it.

    • +14

$2666 per month is not crazy.

      • it does, depends on how much u earn.

        • +1

In which case you’re not going to be a big enough customer for them to justify giving you so many free points.

      • but not our CITI! couldn't be precious CITI! Stealing them blind!

    • +2

Sell an item in ebay and ask ur family members to buy it using the new card. %0 FVP on ebay once a month.

    • -1

Realistic 3-month spending estimate in Albo's Australia

    • I think you can pre pay some bills? I know some of your might hate that but my brain is very bad at being organised so I ensure all my utilities and stuff are paid well ahead, so it's impossible for me to be late on a bill

Both my water bills, power etc. Worth considering within reason

    • there's a new website that pays your rent, using the credit card so you get the points, unsure if trustworthy haven't yet tried it. but would be an easy/great idea if it did

      • Sniip?
They charge 1.5% fees for using visa/mastercard
        Not worth it

        • It was a different brand but figured there would be a surcharge l. Good to know

      • +1

You can pay your rent directly with the credit card without any surcharges if your property is managed by MICM. You’ll have to go in physically to pay over the counter to swipe/tap the CC. They don’t accept AMEX.

  • +1

Not a terrible deal but sheesh these spends 💩

  • +20

this is terrible value for money

A lot of better options with the 30,000 bonus points on offer

Come on pointhacks don't ruin your reputation.

    • +3

Plus Citi's/NAB's offshored service is the worst I've faced out of all of the banks.

Had to AFCA them twice in 3 months due to them not responding and not following up across numerous channels.

    • Hi @Drakesy

Any cards that you recommend now? Thank you so much!

      • +1

        The ones in the link?

      • +1

Velocity Flyer is spend $1500/m each month for two months which is fairly low. 30,000/m + 30,000 bonus points. Not that the first month starts the date your application is approved

Westpac Altitude Velocity Platinum is spend $4000 in 90 days for 60,000 + 30, 000 bonus points. Can add digital card to your google/apple wallet as soon as approved as well as use it for online purchases straight away.

Both have low minimum credit limit of $6k and income of over $30k for Westpac and $35k for Virgin.

        • Applied these two cards and got 90k points in westpac card. Waiting for the second month on the virgin card.

    • expired mate so no longer a better deal

  • No free domestic flight, isnt amex offer better than this?

Also, Not exactly related to the topic, but is it better to keep focus on 1 points program as in QFF , or having both at same time.

I am so confuse with the direction i should be going

    • +14

A true churner does both to maximise the number of cards.

      • This is what I do, both Velocity and qantarse

      • Makes sense, only issue is i have this dream of flying first class using points 😅

  • The Ts and Cs from Citi Payall:

10.1 When accessing and using the Service, you must comply with any prescribed verification procedures, or other procedures, directions and instructions communicated by us to you. Further, you hereby represent and warrant that you shall not, in connection with your use of the Service:

    (b) send money to yourself or recipients who have not provided you with goods or services (unless expressly allowed by us);

    (c) provide yourself or any other party a cash advance from your card (or help other parties to do so);

    • I question the legality (in Australia where T&Cs are barely worth the paper they’re written on) of a bank placing legally enforceable restrictions on how you choose to use your line of credit as long as you’re making your repayments.

  • Is 8k spend the highest from this type of card? Seems insanely high compared to Amex 3k spend, and then what does $300 annual fee actually give you?

I've read that people can get these annual fees refunded if you cancel early enough. Don't know if that would be true with this particular card.

    • +1

no problems hitting that at the grocery store with how the price increases are going.

  • +1

If you are booking travel, $8K is no prob.
Overseas Flights, Accom, a few Trains and Car Hire for two people.
Business class will blow it. Not me, I can't justify the $s for a day or two, much prefer slightly better accom & still save heaps.

Even boring stuff like house & car insurance and private health insurance for a year.

    • Maybe for some. I barely break ~3k on 3 weeks in Europe. But I stay with family a good portion of that.

    • Whilst true, ideally you would want the bonus points BEFORE you go booking flights, etc. surely?

      • Why?

        • +1

So you can use the velocity points on the flights or accom? Wdym why lmao

  • What's usually the income required for this type of card?

    • Judging the min credit limit is $10K, I guess income requirements probably round $70K

  • Citi credit card and Coles credit card are all backed by NAB. They even use the same call centre and same backend system to support all brands.

  • Has anyone applied the Citi Premier card every year and always received the bonus points?

    • Back in 2018-2019, due to extensive travels, I applied twice within short period - around 3-5 months apart, while still keeping my free4life Premier card (so basically held 2 active Premier cards at same time). No issues with getting the bonus points.

Citibank cards don't have grace period in their T&C's. Once they approved the application, you're good.

  • +3

After the end of 2022, Citibank lost the plot with their minimum spend and annual fee requirements for their cards.

Remember getting like 60k and 80k velocity and Qantas points for like $45 and $30 respectively back at end-2022

  • Out of interest what's the best redemption of points through citi. I was thinking 1:1 on flybuys points seemed pretty good? Please educate me. Got 400k to redeem

    • I dont know what is best, but I do know you can always convert it to flybuys (1:1) and then to velocity (1:2), but not the other way around. So it seems to me like the best way to redeem these points is flybuys in any case.

      • If you redeem it to Flybuys first you will usually lose out on bonus transfer promos like this one, so best not to do it unless you are closing the card.

        • +1

Just mindful if NAB remove options and can't redeem for anything of interest

        • Good point.

    • +6

I made a spreadsheet here a while ago which should still be current. Note this is only for Citi reward points

      In summary and in order:

If you fly international -> Krisflyer (3 year expiry)
If you fly domestic & international -> Velocity (2 year inactivity expiry) - Ideally wait for a velocity bonus transfer offer before doing this
If you don't fly but shop a lot at Coles, Target, Kmart -> Flybuys
If you don't shop at Coles, Target, Kmart -> Gift cards (Amazon, eBay, Woolies/Wish, Uber etc.)
If you don't shop -> Pay with points (Can apply to any transaction)
If you are feeling generous -> Donation
      Ignore the other rewards

  • I hold a Citi Rewards Card - do I need to close this first?

    • Had citi rewards, cancelled it. 2 days later applied citi prestige card and got approved.

  • +2

    3.4% Forex fee ouch.

    • Yeah, It's a bit of a bummer since they killed the companion Diners card with no fx fee. 2x reward points though.
Would have been a nice gesture to at least reduce the fx fee as compensation or good will etc. NAB …YBs..

  • +3

Got this card from Free For Life offer 10 years ago *used to be called Signature, now Premier
    still having it for free

    • +1

Hah, yeah same. Had to cancel mine when applying for a home loan though, due to the minimum $15k limit.

      • +1

They have now changed to $10k limit, still try to hold as long as I can

        • That's what I did, changed the limit to $10k
and still holding this to awesome 2014 deal :-)

    • Me too, probably my best ever deal from Ozb. CBA tried to get me to cancel it when I applied for a home loan, I told them to f-off and managed to keep it.

    • Yeah that one is good. I also got Citi Platinum (now called Rewards) which will disappointingly soon change from free to $149/yr now that the Citi NAB merge is complete.

Hopefully same doesn't happen to my Premier.

  • 8,000 spend, 300 annual fee. These Qantas points cards are getting so much more difficult. Just a few years back there were multple options giving circa 70k for 3k over 3 months and annial fee waived year one…

  • +3

I have Netflix and Disney Plus. Ill meet the spend easy.

  • This isn't a deal… $8K in 3 months? Really! Citi's application process and customer service is a shocker, which deserves a neg alone.

The Amex offer for 120K points, $3K spend in 3 months, and $375 annual fee IMO is far better.

    • +1

true, but i already got that one. so i mine as well get this one next to load up more points.
