    Always been like this

    • +4

      Usually a 3k spend I believe.

      • Yeah I will struggle to spend 5k in 3 months via CC…

        • +7

I spend that in a month lol

          • @SpeedRunnerLink: o<

            Sideways medal

          • -5

            @SpeedRunnerLink: How embarrassing for you.

            • +8

@cakesyy: Look beyond your own life experience and accept others' lives are different. They probably have a family and the draining of resources at that rate isn't something they're necessarily happy about or proud of. It's just different, and you don't need to belittle them for it. I didn't read it as a brag.

Damn, when will we all learn that compassion, not Domino's deals, is what can really make us all happier.

          • +1

@SpeedRunnerLink: Speedrun ANZ CC churn any%

        • No worries. Gift cards for Woolies or Coles. Sorted.

        • +1

          Fully refundable hotels/flights. ✅

          • @HappyPants: don't banks crawl back the reward points if refund is processed?

        • do it when insurances and stuff are coming up

          • +1

@perfectlydark: Mine are largely not due until Nov. Can probably spend $700 on my home insurance in Feb but that'd be it.

I do want to pay off an ATO debt and wondering if I just buy a visa/mc gift card and pay it with that (and eat the fees) but I'm concerned ANZ would complain because their T&C are broad and allow them to consider a transaction 'ineligible' for any reason.

            • @Gina Rinehart: yeah understandable. my 12 month ANZ time limit is up in a few days but i want to refinance the mortgage in a few months and i dont want the CC to impact that so I cant really do much until thats taken care of either

              • +1

@perfectlydark: I hadn't even considered that.. My 1.77% fixed rate expires in April and will want the best chance to secure something as good as possible to avoid the inevitable depressing rate I'll revert to.

Seems like this 110k points offer is pretty standard now so no rush to jump on it anyway.

              • @perfectlydark: are you tracking the time limit manually or via ANZ Customer Care?

                • @the4thzodiac: manually i just chucked a thing in my calendar, and happened to notice it the other day (its actually hitting tomorrow for me when a notification would remind me)

            • +1

@Gina Rinehart: Use beemit to pay the ATO debt via BPAY to make the transaction eligible.

            • @Gina Rinehart: ATO debt can be paid direct with a credit card can it not? Just have to eat the merchant fee and if a merchant fee applies it should not be excluded from the card earn calculation. Anyhow, anything excluded should be in the terms,

              • @BB-AU: Payments directly to ATO are excluded in almost all of these promos. I'm wondering for loopholes which seem to be suggested above (e.g. Beem It)

                • @Gina Rinehart: The been loophole has been used extensively on ozbargain over the last 1-2 years. I can attest that paying my ATO debt counted as spend via Beem it - no surcharge, no issues. It is is simple as managing cash flow (ie if you're not expecting any payments to the ATO after 1 July, just amend your PAYG amounts so that you will be required to eventually pay the ATO back. You can also pay the ATO now (log into MyGov , then ATO and see payments tab for a Bpay reference) and meet any CC spend promotions pretty easily. sounds like alot of brain power, but can be done pretty easily if the circumstances/planets align.

        • @Tnetennba must visit OZB more often or time to give that OZB badge back?

      • Used to be 3k spend for 160k points, just around 6 months ago

  • +2

Are you allergic to dollar sign?

  • +2

    Not a new deal
In Oct 2022 this deal was already there: https://web.archive.org/web/20221017173102/https://www.anz.c…

  • What is the min income for this? I've heard 75k but has anyone been approved with less?

    • -1

If you have less than 75k income and spend 5k on CC that is not a good thing

      • +2

I totally agree in normal circumstances, but some people have quite different expenses and/or family willing to help

      • -1

Plenty of ways to meet the spend. Can pay some bills in advance, get family to help (use your card to pay their bills or other expenses), buy Coles/Woolworths gift cards… If you have no one else to help and you have the cash you can just book a fully refundable flight/hotel and then cancel it after you get the points. Then when it credits back to your account you have the rest of the year to spend the 5k.

      • +3

having a 75k income doesn't make your bills any smaller than someone with over 75k income.

can easily pre-pay council rates, water, electricity, gas, insurance, and buy gift cards for grocery shopping

        • yes~ pre-paying, my go to spending option

    • I've seen approved for under than amount last year, I've also heard many complaints on the application process and timeline but others were fine. Goodluck~

  • +1

There used to be a deal for existing ANZ customers to apply via the app, they got extra points.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/691267

Does anyone know if this deal still exists?

    • +2

That was one of the best deal ever!

    • +6

It may be expired by now. I could only see a deal with 110k points in my ANZ app.

    • +1

Hands down the best deal. Wish it would come back.

  • +6

Qantas pts are being valued less and less, and hard and harder to find regards flights.

Card fee, and devaluation of the points makes this an okay deal.

The 5k spend is huge tho, unless you're buying gift cards and then just flipping them on here for no profit which is plenty do.

    • +9

I was actually thinking in the other way
while it is harder to find rewards tickets now
I feel like the value per pt is actually better than pre-covid given the sky high ticket price these days

Recently booked for a Mel <-> Tokyo flight for 63000 points + $270 tax (economy)
If I pay for the ticket it cost me $1792

Net the tax cost, 63000 to $1522, the value per 1000 points is $24.15

Given the higher ticket price while reward ticket points remains
It actually more better off to use points to get ticket than before

      • That is a great deal. Unfortunately not all trips are on special like mel to tyo.

      • Lol I spent my 160k from ANZ promo on Mel - Tokyo as well! Got it even a bit cheaper, 3 tickets via Cairns were 172.5k points total + $880 tax.

      • When evaluating the cost-benefit of using points, remember to compare it to cash fares on equivalent carriers.

Eg if you could have paid $1500 for MEL - TYO return on JAL, your cash savings by using points drops $300.

        • Unfortunately QAN is already the cheapest direct flight for the date I book
JAL is $ 2,080.01 on the same date

    • They do release them and are doing better the last few weeks but you gotta be flexible.

That being said, velocity are a lot easier to find and redeem.

And Europe USA is just hard to get this year across both. But can be done last minute etc.

      • +2

My mate got return to Europe, booked 11 months ahead.

360k pts and $1300 in fees for business.

        I booked Krisflyer 236k, $190 in taxes.

        • Yeah Kris and other programs are better with taxes and points but not everything is apple's to apples. Same with Asia miles or others etc.

160k + $460 for me from Perth to Joburg return biz on Qantas. Emirates taxes are a shit storm at the moment cos they've been jacking it across the board.

Dunno just gotta keep your fingers in other lots if possible to keep options open 😺

        • What do you find is the best way to earn Kris points to see days?

          • @MisterEd: Credit card churning. All the major banks have cards that earn flexible currencies that convert to KF.

        • +1

I saw in another post, someone mentioned fly cheap to Asia (example: Singapore) and then fly business to Europe. Is this what you did? seems like it's a good way, as the trip (IMO) from Aus to Asia can be short.

          • @eltito: Sin to Europe Biz wont be that cheap, I would try Manila or KL to Europe Biz instead

      • So, I've recently thought about getting into the whole CC/churn world to get flyer points as I tend (and try) to travel every year.

I was looking at Europe this year (high season August-September), and it seems that I'm late to the party as on the Qantas website, when I click using points, it's literally like 1,000,000 (million) points required for business return.

Obviously, I need to book super early to get a fairly priced return (in terms of points) flight, however, out of curiosity, is there a special method to try to get a decent return flight (in terms of points) on European flights last minute? Does this only apply to certain cabin types? i.e. economy but not business

        • I've just got onboard the FF train too and it's all a bit confusing. The points are reasonably useless if your trying to book a specific day/time. It ends up being a shit load of points needed. The key is too find a 'rewards' flight to your target destination. You might not necessarily get the exact flight dates you want, but the points cost is about 1/4 of just trying to book any old ticket via points.

          • @Chris12345: Ahh thank you for this info, I'll start doing more research on this (including the rewards flight that you mentioned).

Out of curiosity, do you know if this rewards flight is something that appears randomly until it's time to fly, or is it a case that there is x amount of 'rewards' flights available to y destination for z month(s) and available until fulfilled

Yeah, previously when I looked into FF points etc, it always put me off that when I chose specific-ish dates, the points needed were super high and I never understood how others got it so cheap (and how it was such a successful program) but having learnt 'rewards' flights makes total sense.

  • -2

Not great relative to the annual fee and spend

    • +3

$170 for 110,000 QF points is still great IMO (after $225 cashback)

$5000 spend is not hard to spend
eg. you can buy up to $4500 Shopback Superswap in 1 card
and easily swap the giftcard into common giftcards like Coles, Woolies, eBay, JB HiFi etc

$5000 spread over 3 years of use (GC expiry) is easy to achieve I believe

      • +1

Who the f#$$ is doing that if they're flipping cards every year?

You'll end up with 15k in GC, enjoy tracking that.

        What a cluster f#$$.

I absolutely hate gift cards, I only buy to use ASAP.

        • My 2cents is
There's always a risk no matter what I hold (bank can get bankrupt, share price can drop to trash)
I would normally hold GCs that I have more confident they will last for a while
eg. converting to Coles / Woolies GC to bet they will still survive before my GC expires?
or even load to Apple or Amazon AU balance

          • -1

            @littlesoldier:

            My 2cents is
There's always a risk no matter what I hold (bank can get bankrupt, share price can drop to trash)

The Australian government guarantees deposits up to $250k per bank per person.
Also, the chances of a bank going bankrupt is almost 0. They will get bailed out every time.

But hey, if you think your money is just as good in a GC than in the bank that's up to you

        • you can literally buy $3000 of Woolies Gift cards at 4% off (NRMA and a heap of banks have free programs) and straight away add it to google pay and/or the woolies rewards app. Takes like 60 seconds. Not at all hard to track, just a matter of cashflow and whether one can afford it.

      • +1

You pay interest on that $5k worth of gift cards and then have them sit in a draw??

Theses deals are quite simple, if you meet the application requirements AND your usual spending or some lump sum future spending will meet the minimum then go ahead and churn, the only risk is to your credit score and/or if you are apply for other larger finance at the time.

If the above doesn't apply, then it aint a deal for you…..

  • +7

They will drag the application for months unless/until you call them.

    • Wife and myself both applied previously, were finallly approved but would not honour points despite screenshots. So never accepted the terms and conditions.

      • +4

Ombudsman if they won't honor advertised deal. Bank will usually cave immediately once they get involved.

        • -3

Just you and them then. What I am trying to say is that there are people having a normal experience with the process, so people shouldn't be afraid to apply for the card and see how things go.

          • +5

@nakhe: I had a terrible experience getting approved.

Of course people should have a go, but they should also be wary of what to expect. Many people complain about the ANZ application process.

And your original comment did imply that it was just Pricebeat, which is certainly not the case.

            • @wormarts: Going through the process now with ANZ and its a nightmare, i have a super clean finances and earn a tonne but the process is just painful, same people call and ask for the same thing. Finally put a formal complaint in.

              • +1

@DodgyDavesDiscounts: absolutely painful. I have just received the card yesterday and I had to call 4 times to push through every single step and I have to visit a branch today to enable internet banking

                • @nanny0tt: @nanny0tt thats painful, 4 follow up calls! and visiting the branch to setup internet banking, what day and age is this?? :) ANZ processes seem so antiquated. I thought NAB was painful when i got their FF card but now looking back NAB were much better than this. ANZ lift your game.

        • +2

I'm with you. Had a terrible experience getting approval. Waited a month then called to find out what was going on. In the end wasn't approved despite an a good income, no other debt and a normal credit score? I asked why and they customer support was useless and couldn't explain a thing. Approved by Amex 2 days later, will never apply for ANZ again

          • @ShekelHoarder: Same. I also waited a month last year when they offered 160k points. Called and was fortunate enough to get thru. I also agree that ANZ is a pain in the ass to deal with. After this card i will never apply for ANZ again.

          • @ShekelHoarder: AMEX is defo the best for ease of application and customer support. I'm a regular churner and noone else even comes close. Shame they have 18mth freeze out and not 12!

            • @gazer: As a regular churner, do you cancel the card as soon as the bonus points have been successfully transferred to your frequent flyer account (whichever that may be)?

Or is it a case that you leave the card open (for whatever reason, such as bonus offers in the future) and opt to close it when the 2nd year annual fee is due?

              • @eltito: Depends on my card needs at the time…. but if I can close it as soon as have got the points, yep, that sukka is getting closed. I dont leave them open on the hope of bonus offers…when there're other card sign up offers already on the table

                • @gazer: Yeah, makes sense. I've got the AMEX offer that appeared on Ozbargain a few days ago, so I think I'll try to keep that until the 2nd year at least and then re-evaluate. At least AMEX does offers throughout the year.

As a regular churner, any tips on how to keep the credit score modest? I assume regular churning would lower the credit score in the long run.

                  • @eltito: Pay your balances on time and in full!

Mine is still good after something 12 cards in 3 years

    • +2

Complete pain to apply for this card. I got one last year ($3k spend I think) and they needed a phone interview before approval. Never experienced this ever for a credit card. Not a simple process at all

      • I miss the good old irresponsible lending days when it was so easy to get a new credit card and banks were not bothered with checking anything. And every other month they would beg you to up the credit limit which could be done at a click of a button.

      • I just got rejected, waiting for the mail to explain why. My wife who is on a lower income got approval after being rejected in the first place. Thus I believe the process is absolutely speechless.

        • Lmao that letter will not have any explanation. Noone at ANZ will ever be able to give you one. The letter will always just say nothing substantial, and that you should check your credit report (which can show nothing wrong at all).

          • @clownyfish: Yep, you're right. I have received the letter and absolutely nothing in there. And they're offering me the Platinum one, well done ANZ

  • I'm going to Europe in May, I wish some of these cards had no transaction fees.

    • Jump on the bank west card, used one in Europe for the last 6 months, was great. Saved me a fortune in fees.

      • which bankwest card specifically, i am keen to get this too

    • +1

Coles Rewards Mastercard is probably the best card to take overseas - no transaction fees. But also, 2 flybuys per $1 spent up to $3000 per month (there used to be no cap I think) and 1 flybuy per $ over 3k. Then you can transfer flybuys to velocity, but wait for the transfer bonus which happens about twice a year.

Sometimes there are signup deals that cover the fee and then some.

      • CBA Ultimate is good as well if you can spend $2.5k a month on it to avoid the fees.

    • +1

Either bank west of 28 degrees. You want a card with zero intl transactions fees PLUS the visa/mastercard wholesale FX rates. 98% of other cards will sting you with both and often if they waive the transaction fees they still get you on currency which can be 3-10% or more on every transaction.

When you are in Europe and have one of the above cards NEVER elect to pay in AUD as the same currency con will apply, just pay in the local currency on that card for the best rates.

I have travelled for years with the 28 degrees card and have found the currency conversion to be +/- mere basis points to the quoted wholesale spot rate.

    • I jsut came back from Japan and used CBA ultimate flawless, no FX fee, rate was great, also u get good QF point for spending in foreign currency

  • Is anyone aware if this card is eligible for pro-rata fee refund?

    • +3

There isn’t such thing for ANZ especially
