  • Oh, misread it. Thought it was Velocity to KrisFlyer.

Agree, only useful for small balances where you wont be able to use them before they expire. After 8 J sectors in 2 years, my balances are exactly Zero!

    • Yup, otherwise KF is always more useful and better availability

    • Flying out of which city?

I couldn't use my KF points anywhere.

..but I did aquire them (pre Covid) for the south Pacific/ NZ region… which they no longer service since Covid.

      • pre covid? don't they expire within 3 years?

        • They extended the date several times after Covid. Then I paid for an extension..
But they never resumed the legs I got the points for, so had to roll them into velocity.

      • Flying the other way away from Pacific because that's where Singapore flies mainly

        • Whereabouts? NZ to Sin?

          • @tunzafun001: I have had no issues flying from Melbourne to Europe.

    • Tell me bout it, I got super excited when I saw the email!

    • you can just book furthest ahead flight possible (like one yeah time), then change the flight again say one month before the flight, that way it will never expire,

    • That's nice, we used our points on 2 suites to Europe and business on the way back

  • Main thing is the 20% off economy saver awards redemption until November. Sadly none for business, some premium economy.

    • Only between Singapore and US though?

  • +1

What? You're getting less? WHat's the point?

    • +1

You're not getting less. You're getting 20% more.

The absolute value decreases, yes. But that's like saying what's the point of converting AUD to USD when you are getting a smaller dollar value.

Not all points are made equal, and not all dollars are made equal.

Now, having said that, I actually fundamentally agree with you that it's a crappy deal to begin with. It's just making a crappy deal slightly less crappy. But I'm just highlighting that you can't and shouldn't just look at the absolute figure. Otherwise you could just move to Indonesia and become a millionaire.

Just checked a few dates for business class from Brisbane to Europe KF was 215k points +$250, Velocity wanted 1.2 MILLION POINTS for similar flights. Bonkers.

    • +9

1.2 MILLION POINTS is not a reward seat, obviously.

      • Same thing that happened over at Qantas too before Classic+, people confusing points+pay with classic rewards.

      • Yes, I guess I should have clarified my point. I find Virgin (and Qantas) these days NEVER have reward seats available in longhaul (especially business class) so if you want to use your points it costs you millions of points. Singapore Air seems to have far more availability, so the points are actually worth something.

        • Depends on how flexible you are.
Yes, KrisFlyer has more reward seats available but they cost more and those points are harder to earn.
If it cost you millions of points then you simply don't use points and search another date or book futher in advance as it's not how it's intended to work.

got one way Shanghai to Sydney via Tokyo ANA biz for 92k points + AU$66 a few months back before Velocity jacked up the points required, would be 100k points nowadays.

Turn 5000 KrisFlyer into 3871 VFF, then turn 3871 VFF into 2,497 KrisFlyer, just for the fun of it.

    • Haha. Print screen to prove it.

  • +5

this is actually great for me, just transferred some 6k points from wife's account to Velocity as they are useless sitting there, or they will expire eventually.
got the points including 20% bonus in Velocity instantly. Now I can family transfer her Velocity points to my account.

    • Showing up as 3226 points per 5000 for me, does the bonus come separately?

      • +1

showing as 2 activities when they land in your velocity account

  • +3

Plz do bonus the other way no max transfer :)

    Thanks, everyone

  • Damnit thought it was the other way around.

  • Wish they had this for Amplify to Krisflyer.

  • -1

Does the conversion include miles to kilometres?

  • +1

Only recommended if you have Krisflyer miles expiring soon and you have no other way to utilize them.

    • I have 10k krisflyer points expiring in 2 months, I didnt find other way to utilise it. Do you have any suggestion to utilise it directly?

  • +1

    Bonus showed up instantly, thanks!

  • +1

Excellent OP, I have useless KF points sitting. Cheers!

  • +1

Better. But still terrible. Unless you’re about to lose them

  • The real deal is the reward point discount!

Enjoy 20% off Economy Saver award tickets to all destinations within Singapore Airlines’ network, as well as selected Premium Economy award tickets between Singapore and the United States of America.

    • Agreed. Very niche though imo. Me personally don't have any want to go there.

  • Does anyone know if I can transfer my mother's KrisFlyer to my Velocity account?"

    • +1

Pretty sure you can't, but, you can…

      • Transfer to your mum's velocity account (make one if she doesn't have one yet)
      • Do a family transfer from your mum's Velocity account to your own
      • +2

Do a family transfer from your mum's Velocity account to your own

And they still haven't bloody re-instated doing it online, she'll have to call up and do it manually.

I don't understand, I used to transfer my velocity points to krisflyer. 1.55 to 1. Meaning krisflyer worths a lot more. This looks like a typo to me. It should read transfer 5000 velocity points to get 3871 krisflyer points

    • Definitely! this is KFF to VFF, hence why I mentioned in the first sentence above.

  • -1

Is there any specific link cause i don't get 20% bonus.. still showing 5000 >> 3226

    • FYI: I did and its automatic boosted :)

  • I got only 3000 miles expiring this month!!

Can anyone suggest a good way to use them and not let them go to waste? Thanks

    • Kris+

    • I redeemed some crazily overpriced local milk tea from the online shop last time, delivery was included so $0 out of pocket.

  • 35% potential with NAB rewards points -> 15%+ Krisflyer -> 20%+ Velocity? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/893362

    • More like 35% -> 15%+ -> 1.55÷ -> 20%+

  • My Velocity points are about to expire. Will transferring Krisflyer reset that expiry date?
