Oh no, the 160k deal has gone :(

    • +2

I tried twice, flawless credit score, twice rejected for some bizarre reason - got there third go….card is great, no issues…but as others say the approvals process is like its being done via Craplakistan.

      • How long between each attempt?

        • +1

          a few months

    • +5

Less points, and larger spend = fail

      • I agree. This is not a deal

    • Was the only reason I opened a bank account with them. Guess it's time to close!

  • +21

Anz ccard assessment team are useless

    • +3

I've applied for two now (last one only 2 weeks ago) and both times have been flawless. Requested to upload payslips after applying and card was sent out 2 days from applying.

      • +1

I yanked an application with ANZ literally today because it was so excruciatingly bad. Wish I had your experience instead!

    • +1

They can be. Have had mixed experiences with them.

    • I applied for this a few days ago and got a call from them today. Asked me a few questions around the numbers I submitted and they pushed it through approved.
But I have read in others they can be a bit painful

    • +11

I've had such a poor experience with over 12 calls with their offshore centre asking for further information who barely understood how money works in Australia. They kept dragging the application on for over 5 weeks and I had to file an AFCA complaint to get this closed off after 3 internal complaints remained unanswered after 3 weeks. I wouldn't recommend, but if you do apply, note what you're up for if there's any issues.

      • +1

Do you have non-standard income or something?

        • +3

That's the issue, it was quite a basic application. Salaried income + ETF dividends + rental/living expenses and that's it. They asked for my payslips dating over 3 years back for some reason as well as my old work contracts which I had to dig up. I don't think they fully understood what they were doing.

        • Mine was even simpler than @Johnsmithaus and they still had me jumping through hoops.

I was so confused… I'm fortunate in that my circumstances usually make my credit applications a slam dunk (single good income, minimal liabilities, and only maintain one credit card at a time which I churn periodically).

If their offshore credit agents can't get their head around a single, financially independent applicants circumstances, then I don't wanna imagine the pain that those with more complex financials would go through.

      • +1

Couldn't agree more.. they were ok few years ago but now gone to sh#t

      • Email the CEO - he replied to us and actually got my last compliant sorted !

Crazy to have to go to these extremes but I admired Shayne Elliots commitment to actioning communications ! (he maybe the only one @ANZ who does)

    • +4

      It's true

I have so many issues, I even went to the branch and they scanned and ANZ complained about their own scans.

      Eventually they approved, took weeks.

      • +3

Likewise here, additionally the lady at the branch said she couldn't help me and said I had to go through the rest of the process with the offshore team after she scanned some of my documents. Afterwards I tried to reach out to her via email because she said to message her if there's any issues and she just ignored me. Honestly one of the worst experiences I've had with a bank.

        • -1

ANZ are beyond being absolutely (profanity) useless. Every query I had in the branch had to be phoned through to some other department. Staff are total imbeciles.

    • +1

      This.

Whilst it doesn't necessarily make this a bad deal, if you value your time and sanity, then the bargain is hugely reduced.

I was lucky enough to get my fairly basic application approved on the 160k deal. After all I went through, I'll be extremely annoyed if the points crediting isn't a flawless process.

  • +3

    Uh oh, backwards we go.

  • You can get 110k points if you are a current customers with a $2.5k spend and $295 back, just got the card last week

    • The offer in the app shows 5k spend for me.

      • For $5k spend it was 160k points, but got rejected

    • Link or screenshot?!

  • +2

    Reduced points, no deal here

  • +2

Fewer points and more minimum spend, lol no thanks!

  • +6

ANZ CC= very negative experience for me

    • +1

      Why?

      • slow, repetitive questioning, poor communication, only bank refused my application without explanation, my credit score is 900 btw , AVOID

        • I've been applying for a rewards/FF card every year and cancelling after I receive the points and not had an issue.

But I don't support crap offers like this one.

  • +5

Use points to get to airport for cancelled flights. Qantas is in the poop still

  • +1

$5000 to spend? Geez, this used to be $3K before.

  • Boo had a one of the cards that exclude you from this card! Anyone else notice the lack of CC deals with good bonus points ?

    • +1

Yes! ANZ has been one of the few with good deals, but even they seem to be getting worse. NAB have had a couple of alright ones, but I've churned both too recently.

It feels like forever since there was a good Qantas American Express deal. Lots of the smaller banks are only doing 60k points. Churning is so much worse than it was a couple of years ago.

  • +12

This is an awful deal. Used to be 160k points with 3k spend for existing customers.

    • Totally agree!

  • ah dang, was about to flip card in to the ANZ ones and was hoping this was the 160k deal again..
Is it split over 2yrs like some other cards or just all upfront points?
Worth waiting to see if they bring back the 160k deal?

  • +4

ANZ held up my last application about a pay rise even though I was well above the minimum without it. To the point my application was no longer valid.

    • I think you will find given the increasing interest rates, they have stricter assessments now that every extra income will help.

I recently applied for St George card (a card I have held multiple times in the past with much lower income) where my income was more than double the minimum requirement but had to use my bonus and dividend income to pass their servicing, which was originally rejected without (despite having conditionally approved).

  • +3

I’m lucky I applied for the 160k deal last weekend.

    • They go by application date, not approval date for the offer right? I also applied while it was 160k but my approval is (unsurprisingly) still pending

      • +1

        Yes by application date

        • Hooray! I applied last Thursday too!
Hopefully, it will get approved so my hooray was not premature.

          • @BoBo-the Angsty PhD: Anyone have experience in this situation with ANZ? I applied a month ago and finally got the card today. I thought I might need to call them to lock in the original deal I signed up for. I feel like it would be very easy for them not to honour the original deal as it will be 2 months away from now before I actually get the bonus points.

  • +3

Once this deal tanks, they'll offer a better offer

  • +9

i found their application team to be hopeless and very annoying as well, suggest avoiding

  • +2

As others have already said and mentioned - this was 160k with a 3k spend months ago.

    • -1

That was only for existing customers.
As a new customer to ANZ this is a good deal

      • +4

You can be, oh uh, existing ANZ in less than 10 mins, and the 160k deal was just last week

      • It takes literally no time at all to become an 'existing' customer. Especially compared to the application process..

  • +2

Just cancelled my NAB signature with 120k bonus from last year.

What’s the best offer at the moment? I missed out on the 160k points for $3k spend offer.
    - ANZ seems to be bad with approval based on people’s experience.
    - Westpac altitude the spend requirements are pretty high.
    - Citi I churned two years ago and they seem to exclude past customers who’s had a Citi premier card?

    • In the same boat

    • What’s the best offer at the moment?

Looking for QantasFF or VelocityFF ?

If Velocity, there's the St. George Amplify card promotion now.
75k Velocity points for spending $12k in first 12 months and $15k credit limit.

There's the PointHacks deal for ANZ Rewards, which also has 75k Velocity points,
but $3k spend in first 3 months, and $6k credit limit.

Personally, I like Velocity because I don't see much value in Qantas,
as I don't think I've ever flown with them nor did they attract me over the years.

      • +1

        Looking for Qantas FF

Seems like ANZ has the highest bonus points at lower annual fee and similar spend requirements.

        • There's the NAB Qantas Rewards Signature
          - up to 120,000 Qantas Points and $295 first year annual card fee (save $100)

          More here

          • @whyisave: NAB signature is the one I just cancelled

Every provider seems to have updated their deals recently and this ANZ seems to be the best?

  • +6

I very rarely neg deals, but I also agree with the bad experiences people had above.

Applied for an ANZ credit card a bit over two years ago and canceled before 12 months were over.

I then applied again for the exact same one post 12 month period and got rejected.

Called up their customer service and they couldn't tell me why my application was declined, even though I had a higher salary.

They directed me to their complaints team as suggestion lol

  • +1

I hope all these people with negative experience leave a negative feed back on their customer service.

  • +3

I've been so put off with ANZ CC applications.

It's like they want business but absolutely trash their customer base in the process.

5k spend for 110k points haha.

I got negged on a popular ANZ CC deal to oblivion for being negative on another deal about being rejected.

Oh how can sentiment change when the dust settles.

    • +2

Well tbh, if I am running a business trying to make a profit, the people from ozbargain is not exactly my primary target base.

  • Anyone know what happens with your credit file with a license number swap (Optus). SA, so whole new number.

Do all your loans and the credit cards you are holding not appear (ie. Is it a new file)?

Alternatively, do you have no chance of getting a card with a fresh credit history?

    • Um wrong deal man.

      • Huh? I want to apply for the card.

I m a churner and might actually be better off with a new license/ credit file (as they are linked to your ID i believe).

        • Ah sorry. ANZ are pretty bad with CC checks.

And it stays on there for years.

  • I have this card currently (got it on the 160k points deal). I BPAY my rent every month and get points for it. If your agent uses DEFT for rent payment processing you can do the same. It made it super easy to get the minimum spend.

    • Westpac exclude BPAY for the rewards, so not sure if ANZ do the same?

      • I’m definitely getting points, and there’s no fee for me. I’ve been doing it for almost 6 months now

    • Do you need to pay cash advanced fee for BPAY or DEFT fees?

      • DEFT are currently charging me a 1.5% fee for paying by credit card.

        • Pay them via BPAY instead, from a credit card. It circumvents the fee lol

      • I don’t have to pay a fee when paying via BPAY to DEFT, as they accept Visa credit as a payment method on their BPAY biller code.

  • My experience with ANZ was pretty good, I am having my 2nd round of ANZ blackcard and no issue whatsoever. But I have negative experience with Citi, and any card citi is the underwirter, all rejected outright, not even a chance to talk to any live agent…never had any default with them and high credit score…must be due to some of their owm paramteres don't like me..

  • +2

I've never had an issue with ANZ. Always my go to churning along with Amex/NAB/St George. On the other hand, Citi and Bendigo bank are the absolute worst as they will decline an application without any actual reason - and there is no reason they could possibly decline in the instances I've dealt with them.

Edit: Do people realise that the ANZ Black card is generally for 75k+ salaries, is that why they're having issues applying?

    • My income is multitudes higher than that amount and without any large loans but last time I applied a few months ago they made me jump through so many hoops over one month I just cancelled the whole application

      • I've always been conditionally approved straight up. At least they didn't just flat out deny your application within giving a straight answer

  • +1

Have just left ANZ after 2 years. They have to be the worst bank in Australia by a long shot. Everything about them is leaps and bounds worse than any other financial institution. A mix of old technology, incompetance, poor customer service, long wait times for any help etc.

Wouldn't risk it for this deal.

  • -1

    Qantas sucks.

  • Last time I applied for this card (earlier this year) I was expecting to get the 160K points - however after meeting the conditions I only got 100K points - any complaints I made were just met with comments to the effect that I got the points I was supposed to get (even tho I had a screenshot of the 160K points deal) - I did however get the $255 cashback instead of the $225 that came with the 160K points deal

    • +1

Did you get your 160k points eventually? I applied a few days ago and approved yesterday. I don’t know if they will give me 160k or 110k…

      • Nope - I closed the account

        • Sorry to hear. I would argue for that if I’m not getting 160k.

      • In the same situation. Applied few days ago and got approved today.

Applied via the ANZ app and had a confirmation that I was signing up for 160k points and $225 refund to the fee at the end of the application stage.

However, judging by the fact that what you see now on the app is just 100k and going by people's bad experience with the whole sign up process, I'm quite worried now.

        • I'm a bit worry too! Maybe we should give them a call to confirm once we receive the card.

          • @lzaonne: Same boat here. Will call them next week

            • @Robot16: Did you manage to call them and get a view on this?

              • @firestint: @firestint
                Not yet mate!

              • @firestint: @firestint I called and they confirmed that I will get the 160k points.

                • +1

@Robot16: Awesome news! I might give them a call too to confirm.

                  • @firestint: @firestint good luck!
You may be in hold a while but hope it's worth it!

                    • @Robot16: Some updates. Called them, on hold for about an hour. They told me yes I'm eligible for the 160k bonus offer, but…. My credit card was put on a different CRN to my Access Advantage account.

So after a total of 3 calls, each time waiting for at least an hour, I have now managed to merge all accounts into one CRN and they have reassured me that being on different CRN originally doesn't make me ineligible for the promo so fingers crossed.

The whole ANZ experience is just one of the worst out of all the banks, from applying for credit cards to their online app experience where they make it overly secure which disrupts your usage experience to long wait time trying to reach them, I will try to avoid ANZ credit cards as much as I can in the future

        • ya I had signed by in June and yet to receive my points. Somehow feel I wont get the points or cash refund as well. Called them a couple of times and they confirmed all is good. I have completed my spend limit in the first or second month itself.

  • +1

ANZ is so bad, that someone used my credit card in Canada to pay for ballet school like 3k, same day target Geelong for $15

And no one ever called me!

Commonwealth bank fraud team are literally on the phone if they notice anything!

    ANZ didn't even contact me!

So it was used in Canada, Geelong target and I used it in Adelaide and their system didn't pick it up!

    Horrible bank!
