  • Was going to hop on this but then read that Spintel route all their traffic through Sydney. Being in Perth, this means my pings would be high af if playing on any server outside of AU. I wonder if my current provider Leaptel does the same as its something I didnt look into prior to signing up.

    • +1

Correct, better off staying with current provider (unless I'm Sydney maybe).

      • +2

Yep, even better, Leaptel reached out to me via PM without me having to ask, and confirmed that they do not route through Sydney! Gotta love that local support!!

      • Should that also prevent people from Vic to get this service?

        Or is the delay bearable?

    • Thanks for the info. I was meant to go leaptel but changed to spintel. But then provisioning took so long and my anniversary date lapsed with current provider, I had to cancel the churn.

Probably good thing as I am in Perth too. Will jump onto spinel's promo around Xmas.

  • +1

Just got connected in metro sydney.
    Getting 48/18, 12 ms ping.

    • +2

Ok did it again and getting 92/18, 12ms

      • That’s reassuring. Didn’t hear much info about speeds and ping for those in Sydney.

  • Consultant on phone said no CGNAT on NBN HFC

    • nah, im on cgnat now, will have to figure how to get port fowarding to work

  • Signed up to this on Friday and just got connected today. If someone could possibly give some advice on a Wifi Router it would be much appreciated:

-Currently have a D-Link DVA-2800 router however it is a few years old and I get daily drop outs. Looking for something fast without dropouts, that's all I care about really.
    - Believe I have FTTC
    - Budget probably max $250
    - Single story 3 bedroom house, no gaming just streaming of Netflix, YouTube, NBA etc, max probably 3 people using at a time and also have 2 Eufy cameras and door bell.

    Was looking at:

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/asus-rt-ax54hp-dual-band-…

    Or (suggested by ISP):

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/tp-link-archer-vr2100-wir…

    Cheers!

    • The TP-Link Archer VR2100 does work on FTTC but it's actually designed for FTTN and FTTB. Is the nbn NCD dropping out? Do you want a mesh setup or does the one D-Link router cover the place in Wi-Fi?

      • Thanks for the reply mate. I'm unsure if it's the NCD dropping out or the router as I would just reset it by flicking off the wall switch which was connected to both. This would temporarily fix the issue. Yeah small place so don't think I need a mesh set up as I already have a range extender for the garage.

        • All good. Do the status light indicators on the NCD turn off or stay blue? Are you limited to JB (maybe you have gift cards) or can you buy elsewhere online?

          • @Twix: Pretty certain the NCD light stay blue and it's the router lights that either flash or go off. Can buy online, just preferred JB so I could set up the internet asap. So if online would probably have to be via prime. I bought the VR2100 today but haven't opened it as I wanted to make sure I was making the right decision

    • Amazon has the Tp link archer 3100 for $ 147

  • +3

Geez, there’s some really ordinary speeds being reported here.

I get people are probably happy paying $50 for 50-60Mbps speeds but surely it’s some sort of bait-and-switch crap going on here when it’s advertised as a 100Mbps connection.

Is anyone, anywhere at any time of day actually getting the advertised speeds?

    • +1

Big issue for them is their brand will be tainted for ever!

  • I think I made the switch from MORE on Saturday night in Melbourne and got connected this arvo.

So far so good. Haven't noticed any speed drops. Getting 90+ download & ~15 upload on FTTC at a peak time.

    • +1

Do we need to inform More that we are cancelling the service ? Looks like they have min 30 day notice period before cancelling?

      • I'm not sure. I've never informed the RSPs previously whenever I switched over

  • +1

signed up on Friday. Pinged customer service today afternoon over whatsapp and asked for the status. Got connected after 30min that.
Speed: moden synced at 80/22, which is about the max my FTTN can get. Did a speed test over fast.com, got around 72/16 (7pm SYD). I'm in Campbelltown area, NSW.

  • Meh, 61.5Mbps on the sunny coast.
Still a better price/speed ratio than what I was on for these first 6 months atleast, might have to shop around when the promo period is up.

  • +2

speed is ok but if you need ping it'll be three times slower than others.

  • After 10 years I am back to Spintel.

  • After moving to Spintel, strange delay I used to experience with SL and ABB are all disappeared. One magical thing is that I don't even see any buffering on watching realtime videos over VPN(ExpressVPN) at all. It was always there even when I was using ABB 250/20 plan.

  • Why are people saying they are unhappy with the speed, but they'll stay there for 6 months? Can't you just leave after 1 month if you're not happy with it? There's no contract right?

I initially thought I was getting the same speeds as Superloop, but I found out it's not the case. Superloop hadn't cancelled my connection. When I finally got hooked up with Spintel I found out I am getting 65/15 in North Brisbane all day every day, so I'm done with these Jokers.

I think I'm going to move to Exetel, but the 1 month notice thing is ridiculous.

    • It's still cheaper than my previous NBN 25 plan with Origin Broadband.

    • +1

Spintel also have 30 day notice. Its been mentioned previously here and look at their terms. So it is a minimum of two months you have to pay unless you get lucky. Seems if your not in Sydney, Spintel is pretty much trash. Which means they are trash if they can't even give the speeds or ping that they are advertising

    • I've been pretty unsavvy and admittedly quite lazy when it has come to my ISP over the last… decade?
Moving from an awful $79.99pm 50/20 internode plan to this is still better over the next 6 months.

Guess this is a wakeup call for me and I'll be looking at some of the other providers that pop up here from time to time when this promo period is up.

  • Signed up, connected in 5 mins, getting 23 Mbps down, surely not… Could be the old service interfering?

    • I'm still considering to move but less confident as i see more real examples on the comment, really appreciate your comment. Are you in Melbourne?

If you used to use 25Mbps service with previous provider but if you used 50 or 100 Mbps, shouldnt be interfered in my opinion.

      • Townsville, was on 50/20 with Telstra, was maxing that out previously.

    • Sounds like that's what you can expect because if your connection is now with them, there will be no interference but a router/modem reboot wouldn't hurt. People around the Brisbane area are reporting speeds of 65Mbps while people in the countries outer reaches are affected even more with Spintel's one single PoP being in Sydney so it makes sense.

  • signed up, and only getting 10mbps.
    Location is in Cairns.
The consultant told me it might be the problem of my cable, which worked perfectly with another provider

    • Also in Cairns on FTTN, getting a touch over 40 down and 14 up. Simmilar to what I've had from Tangerine and Superloop so happy days so far.

  • Signed up, painless porting, getting 92mbps/13.2mbps, so a noticeable decrease from ABB, but worth it for the price.

  • +1

Just got connected (under 24 hours from sign up), getting 95/18 on FTTP so far.

  • Placed the order on the 25th and status is still “processing”. Tried to contact them and they never pickup the phone. I can’t even speak to someone to cancel my order…. Very disappointed ☹️

    • whatsapp messaged them and was connected within the hour

      • Did the same today after waiting since Thursday. Whatsapp person must have been able to work some magic as it was 30 minutes after I started a chat with them. All connected.

93/16 which is already an improvement over the 50/20 plan I was on before. Brisbane ping to JPN is still fantastic ~110ms, USW is ~170ms and USE~230ms. This website gives a quick snapshot of your own latency to a list. https://www.cloudping.info/

  • Anyone with More Broadband know if they give a pro-rata refund? More was paid literally a day before Spintel connected me.

    • I thought it has 30 day notice period before changing providers. My billing starts from 1st of each month. So waiting for them to confirm the cancellation date before signing up for this.

      • I was able to cancel via the dashboard. Don't wait too long because the deal ends tomorrow, although for me I'm regretting it. Only getting 9/0.4 down from 53/19 on my More 50/20 plan!

        • Looks like need to create a case in Dashboard to cancel the service. I have created the case in the morning. But still no reply.

  • Signed up yesterday, this morning follow up with message chat on their site, they connected within the next 15mins!

Speed is 89 / 16, based in NSW 2073 and HFC, I say speed is decent especially given the price point.

Would cancel before it revert to full price $85 though. Thanks op

  • FTTP only getting 9/0.4 and 28ms ping.

With More I consistently got 53/19 on 50/20 connection with <5ms ping.

Is it easy to cancel the service?

    • Care to share the location?

      • +1

        NE Melbourne.

        • Well, support said to let it "boot up" and to check tomorrow.

    • I'm getting the same speed as you in SE Melbourne. I've just spent an hour on the phone with them doing trouble shooting but didn't fix anything.

  • Anyone here using Telstra Smart Gen 3 modem for Spintel? If yes, how to config? Thank you.

  • Just got connected. Getting 30mbps. Well it's not worse than what i was getting with superloop heh..

    • Getting 30mbps on a 100/20 plan?

      • Should be false advertising almost.. I guess if the price is significantly lower than what they are currently paying
a lot of people won't bother complaining/changing. Get what you pay for but good for Spintel getting more customers.

        • Ill need to check back tomorrow when the "connection settles"

  • First Speedtest is excellent, looking good! Thx op.

  • Exetel 30 day cancellation policy a bummer. Guess i'll look for the next best thing after this deal! Have until 30th December to find something haha

  • +3

Signed up the say this deal was posted.

Now I keep getting SMS from them asking if I have a current active NBN connection and to call them to confirm.

Called them and left my number. No one called back.

On the phone now. Since I called I've been "first in queue". Been waiting to speak to someone for 1 hour 20 mins as first in queue.

    This company is a joke.

1 hour 30 minutes until answered by the most incompetent of staff. Zero concept of customer service..phone went quiet for about 5 minutes during our discussion..I thought it was disconnected or I that he put me on hold. Eventually he came back and said can you hear me and nothing else..he proceeds to asks questions which I respond to..he doesn't acknowledge my responses so I need to verify he has heard and understands constantly. All this to find out that my order is in probation but the orders team is outbound only so he can put a note in the account and that's it

Very tempted to cancel. I suppose this is why it's so cheap. Beware

  • Signed up late Thursday night and connected today after chasing up through Whatsapp. Getting 95/16, ~10 ping. Great improvement over my previous 50/20 plan.

  • Well that's abysmal. Will give it overnight.

    Signed up Sun, connected today.
    FTTP Regional VIC.

    40.87 Down / 0.66 Up
Ping 30ms, Download Latency 29ms, Upload Latency 1267ms

    • +1

Similar ping/upload to mine except im maxing out at 10mbps down. Also VIC. Shockingly bad. I would be okay with around 60+ but this is unacceptable.

      • I really keen to know if you still experience bad speed today?

        • You seem to be chasing everyone's speed. Why is that?

          • @lordra: I still thought to join then i just joined with hoping to have my luck. Its in processing and communicating with them in whatsapp

        • Yup still the same. It's a very stable 9-10mbps. I'm going to contact and cancel today as I see no sign it will give me anything close to the advertised 100mbps.

          • @Yuri Lowell: Waste of most people's time and effort, although there was plenty about it in the thread. Just another case of seeing a crazy price without looking into it enough I think.

            • @G-rig: Yeah, sometimes it's too good to be true although some people had some good results. I'm switching to Leaptel.

              • @Yuri Lowell: Leaptel is great, worth the extra for performance and support (the online chat/phone is tops and get through straight away almost)

          • @Yuri Lowell: Did you try a different router? See my latest update.

    • Yeah no better today on the upload. Waiting, waiting waiting on the chat.

    • ***UPDATE - RESOLVED ***

Never got through to support, but discovered while browsing TPG forums that it was a BYO router problem.
Was using a new TP-Link VX-220-G2v that had come from a Westnet Service.

Seems TPG provision bandwidth throttling settings to their modems. Switched out for another older modem I had and now rocketing.

Before: 62.86 Mbps Down 0.59 Mbps Up 41.00 ms 6.58 ms
After 98.67 Mbps Down 16.98 Mbps Up 39.40 ms 5.63 ms

  • anyone with EERO not have to use PPPOE?

it connected while still on DHCP

  • “ The service lead time of your order will take 2-5 working days. Once complete, you will be notified via email.”

Should have kept my churn request with Exetel

  • +1

I have just changed over from Superloop, no issues so far. Reconfigured my router as per Spintel instructions which was an easy process.
However it is now 7.30pm and yet to hit 100mbps. Max 80mbps I am getting. Well below their advertised evening speed of 100mbps.

Previously Superloop was consistency 95 to 102mbps all day every day.
I will update the speed again in a couple of hours

    • Spintel do not overprovision their connections so chances are you’ll never get the speeds of others like Superloop, ABB etc and 90Mbps is probably the theoretical max you will get, if you’re lucky.

      • I just hit 92mbps now (8.45pm)
I'll report back when I hit 100. I really wanna hit 100!! I feel somewhat ripped off lol

        • Isn't it depend which server you are connecting to during your speedtest? just out of curiosity if everytime when you do your speedtest, if it is testing with the same server or different?

          • @aladdin: yes it is connecting to Swoop Broadband Melbourne on every test. I still haven't hit 100mbps. It's 6.24am offpeak and it at 93mbps. I have concluded Spintel is a little slower than Superloop.

    • I wish had 80. I get like 30 lol

    • +1

superloop is a top tier provider, their speeds are probably unmatched. They are one of the best for overseas gaming also.

    • What Spintel instructions have you received?

      • how to reconfigure my existing modem

  • +1

I'm only getting 10 mbps download and 0.6 upload.

    • Still 10 Mbps?

      • Yeah bro still 10

    • Tried a different modem?

      • My modem was putting out 50/20 the same day I churned over to spintel. It's not hardware related.

        • Still worth a try if you’ve got a spare/can borrow to test. I was locked in same upload as you. Switched to another old modem and problem solved. Must have been some hidden QOS setting remotely provisioned.

          • @LeftHandSeat: I tried a different router and still getting the same 10 down.

  • 44/16 @ 21.40hrs.
