        • is that confirmed, how would dodo know it's a torrent if you're using a VPN

          • @fredblogs: no idea nothing ever downloads when using dodo… tried everything

        • +1

That seems like a dns level blocking. Change your DNS server.

do they do a credit check ?

    • +1

They do ask for driver license / medicare / passport, so I assume some sort of credit check is done.

See 9.0 in the terms: https://www.spintel.net.au/policy/terms

      • thanks mate, I don't like to give those after Optus lol. would it be $69 or $84.95/mth after 6 months ? I think $84.95/mth isn't it ?

        • +1

It would be $84.95 after 6 months as we're getting 2 discounts per month for 6 months: $15.95 and $20.

    • +1

This is what one of the sales representative told me.

We perform the necessary credit checks.
Credit checking is a valuable part of our signup process, helping us reduce the risk of non-payment and fraudulent orders, which allows us to continue delivering a quality service at competitive rates.

Anyone with fibre to home in brissy using this service? Curious about ping / speed

    • SpinTel don't have the best latency. Your QLD traffic goes back to the only POP in Sydney.

  • signed up and service was activated in less than 2 hours. Plus torrent sites are now unblocked. Smell ya later tangerine!

    • So they tale a hangover from previous provider themselves or you need to call and cancel ?

  • If I'm with Telstra HFC NBN, can I swap over and just update user / pwd details? Or is there more involved in such a change of ISP?

    • Same. Time will tell.

    • +1

Swap to PPPoE with the SpinTel username and password details. Talk to Telstra about any possible outstanding charges.

  • Any recommendations on what router to bring to this party?
Something that doesn't break the bank (sub $200), 4 users, light online gaming, lots of streaming to mobile devices.
    TIA!

    • -1

i heard the more antenna is the better

    • If your current router works fine, then it's probably worth a shot trying it out and replacing it only if it really performs badly. I am still using the ZTE router I got from exetel many years ago.

      • I'm with Optus, so I have the Sagemcom 5366TN Optus Ultra WiFi Modem (with 4G backup). I doubt I can reuse this with SpinTel? Very happy to be wrong.

        • Unfortunately that one seems to be locked to IPoE per https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/9yqm7znz, so you will need to get a new router.

          • @firestormx: Yea mate, I know, I've done a bit of digging. Hence my post, asking for a recommendation . 😁
And since I intend on churning over in 6 months, I may as well get a router and be done with. Something that can be used with other telcos too.

            • @lordra: TP-Link Deco M5 2 or 3 pack bundle if you need a Wi-Fi mesh setup. TP-Link Archer AX55 or Asus RT-AX55 if you think one router is enough. All of these are compatible with other ISPs.

              • +1

@Twix: Beauty, thank you mate. I just need the one, it's a small space. I'll have a squizz for a bargain on these.

              • @Twix: I have a Sagemcom I got from Optus as well. Churned to ABB initially and no issue as they are on Optus network. Tried to move to more and was told my router is locked, had to (sheepishly) go back to ABB. Currently have a Deco E4 AC1200 connected to the Sagemcom to give the signal some boost.

Does that mean I could have plugged one of the Deco E4 tower directly to the box instead of through the Sagemcom modem?

If so I'd feel so dumb about all the mucking around I had down (and also missed out on some good deals)

                • +1

@Banana: Aussie BB have their own backhaul links to every nbn POI and they only use Optus for mobile.

Deco E4 can be configured for any ISP and plugged to the nbn box.

                  • @Twix: Sorry I have not too tech-savvy, when you say I can configure the Deco E4 for any ISP, would that be managed via the app?

                    • @Banana: Changing ISPs is managed by the Deco app. Do you want instructions on how to set up the Deco to the nbn box?

                      • @Twix: If you have the link handy and it's not too troublesome, I'd really appreciate that Twix!

                        • @Banana: Here you go.

                          1. Disconnect the Optus modem.
                          2. Wait at least 30 minutes (don't skip this step or else the Deco won't connect).
                          3. Press the reset button underneath each Deco for a couple seconds.
                          4. Plug in Deco to the same port on the nbn box.
                          5. During the Deco app installation put the internet type as Dynamic IP for Aussie BB.

Later if you want to swap to More Telecom signup online and wait for an email. Swap the Deco's internet type to PPPoE and put in your username and password given to you by More Telecom.

                          • +1

@Twix: Wonderful, thank you so much for your generosity.

                            I will give that a try :)

                            • +1

@Banana: Something to be aware of is the Deco E4 has a 100Mbps maximum speed and that is good enough for most. If your nbn is capable of Gigabit and 250Mbps speeds you have to follow the same steps and swap the Deco E4 plugged into the nbn box to something like a Deco X60 with Gigabit ports.

  • Can you cancel after 6 months?

    • -1

      why cannot ?

      • someone else posted bad speed in Perth, but have u had any speed issues?

    • +1

It's a month to month, so you can cancel at any time, no penalties. Just put a reminder in your calendar to move on after 6 months.

      • Ok cheers

  • Was having trouble signing up online - saying the offer was for existing customers only, except that i've never been a customer. Chat rep offered to call, received a call straight away, bada bim bada boom, done in 10 minutes.

Was able to defer the 'order' of the service to 30 November at the latest (has to be by then to get the discount). Service will be connected within a few business days after.

Here's hoping the internet connection is as good as their customer service so far

    • Saw same message online and called them to sign up

    • I've been with Spintel for a while now. I think their customer service is great. Accessible by chat (useful when at work), also available on the phone if that works better, and they are proactive in calling you on the phone to follow up if you're no longer on that chat. I know some others have different experiences, but mine has been positive so far. Ability to connect through chat allows me to multitask, rather than having to wait/queue on the phone.

They have improved over time. Not the best but when you consider their price I give them a thumbs up from an overall basis.

Signed up early this morning and got connected mid afternoon.

I didn't realise until after the connection came up that Spintel uses NAT, so I no longer have a publicly routable IP address. Obviously I knew it wouldn't be a static IP, no ISP gives those out for free, but my previous Superloop plan wasn't using NAT even though it was still a dynamic IP.

Something to be aware of. I'm already considering changing away as this is possibly a dealbeaker for me.

    • do you know if they give option to opt out of cgnat? i see they offer static ip which is $11/mo https://articles.spintel.net.au/en/articles/4737731-do-you-o… . but i couldnt find if there ia option to get dynamic public ip instead

      • nvm, found in previous comments "extra $5/mth for non-CGNAT IP"

    • New SL customers are now CG NAT

    • +1

Sorry in advance for the following NOOB question.. I am currently with SL looking to switch to Spintel.

In what situation does NAT or dynamic IP matter? What's the benefit or difference for either of them?

    • @seanneko I'm considering this offer, but wondering what issues can occur with NAT. I'm don't have much tech knowledge about these things. I don't game online, just streaming and working from home. Also need to use NordVPN sometimes. Could NAT get in the way \ damage the experience in any way? Appreciate any guidance!

  • great deal. cheers op

  • +1

So everyone who signed up had to upload an ID document ?

    Unbelievably risky after Optus’s debacle.

I’m not doing no matter the discount.

    • +3

      Yeah. I don’t really care.

    • +1

With MyDeal, Optus and Medibank data breaches there’s probably not much point me being concerned anymore (having accounts/services with all those) so I wouldn’t let that stop me from accessing deals….personally.

  • +2

Signed up last night and forgot to enter the code. Sent them an email. They replied at 9am this morning saying it had been corrected for me. I checked my account page and it has. Was connected at 3pm today. A good start so far, and the speed is the same as I was getting on Superloop.

    • Can I ask what state your located in? I’m in Melb burbs currently on SL but wary of changing after reading earlier posts on this thread.

      • +2

        Brisbane HFC

  • I signed up at 10am this morning, still processing. I'm on fttp and I've changed providers many times, usually takes 10 mins or so, I guess they're under the pump today

    • Same. I signed up at 8am. Tracking says Approved.
Others have been connected pretty quick.

    • I came here looking to see if I was the only one. Mine still says processing. My past experience has been switching between Superloop and ABB and it’s always been done in 20 mins so not used to a delay.

      • +1

Mine was connected about an hour ago. Will see how it goes when I get home from work.

  • Do they have option for static IP?

  • Spintel is fine until you run into a problem, I recently moved out into a rental and went with Spintel since our family has been with them forever, moment I ran into an issue with phone lines and NBN technicians in the new place they didn't want to help at all and said they would continue charging while it got fixed. Have never switched so quickly, good riddance. Outsourced support

    • -1

the world was fine and beautiful too until we run into covid …. and now getting mortgage increase letter each month…

  • Hmm.. I'm only getting 10mpbs in Northern Suburbs Bundoora

  • -1

    better to avoid this ISP.

  • +1

So after the 6 month this becomes $69 or $85?

    • +1

It becomes $85 after 6 months.

  • Do Spintel offer IPV6? Can't see anything in their support section.

    • +1

Yes, they assign an IPv6 address in addition to the IPv4 behind CGNAT.

      • Thanks!

  • If anyone has spintel CVC and POI details? Thanks

  • +1

Signed up yesterday - conntected this morning, Dissapointed that you couldn't choose a connection date, so i lost 6 days with superloop - no biggie..

I was getting 108/19 with SL, Barely hitting 95 with spintel. I don't think they are overprovisioning, I lose about 2 meg a second on steam but for this price its a no brainer. Also ping to europe gaming servers went from 280 - 400. US and Asia are the same.

  • Is this offer for only today?

    • +1

No. It’s in the description and also the expiry of the deal.

  • Be careful. This is for NBN Fibre L connection. The code doesn't work if I go through by searching through an address which doesn't have fibre.

  • My ping went from 10 with More Telecom to 36-44 with Spintel.

    • Yeah not worth it..
      Cheapest isn't always the best.

    • Makes sense when there’s one PoP catering to the entire nation.

  • What is Spintel's definition of a new customer? I have my mobile with Spintel but never been with them for nbn. I can always sign up in my partners name instead if need be.

What about disconnections - does it matter if the accounts are in different names or is it just based on address?

  • Fyi, referrals are not being accepted for black friday promotion

When i spoke with spintel chat

"Hello txb, I just recently received an update that we no longer offer Refer a friend credit/code for customers who signs up for Black Friday promo."

"The referral code generated as of today will not be counted and will be considered as void."

  • +1

They must be busy, registered yesterday arvo and today am still on 'Processing'

    • Same :/

Seeing all these comments about being connected within hrs too.

      • +2

Same here. AussieBB disconnected me so now I'm without internet while waiting for Spintel to connect me. Customer service is useless.

  • Just got connected hitting 70/13Mbit over 10 speed tests

    • That’s pretty ordinary. Glad I decided not to jump on this.

      • +3

I’m fine with this. I was paying $69/month for 50/20 with Superloop. So this is an improvement for me.

        • Was talking to a family member and then saying the speed would be a waste. Asked them where else they could get a nbn plan for the same cost 😂

        • It’s alright if you don’t need those speeds but at the same time, advertising those speeds and only delivering 60% of it is poor form.

On a personal note, I’d rather pay $20 more to get what I’m paying for (not what the service is worth for what I’m paying), decent customer service, PoP’s in my state and good pings but obviously, not everyone needs that.

          • @MaximumEffort777: Agree, they shouldn't be advertising those speeds if you only get 60-70% in reality (and probably less in the evenings).

Guess treat it like a 50/20 plan, $50 for that is alright but agree I'd rather pay $5-10 more for a decent RSP.
The slow Ping could make it feel sluggish.

        • Connected on Friday and been getting ~30/19 in Greater Sydney on last few days from ~70/30 I was getting with More. Very disappointing but unfortunately my 50% More discount was expiring at beginning of Dec.

        • hi there, may i ask how long does it take Spintel to activate your service?
Did you wait for the service activated first before cancelling SL?
you will need to ring SL for cancellation right?
Thank you for your reply in advance.

          • @aladdin: Took about 24hrs for me to be connected. I waited cancel SL. I got a sms from SL asking if I want to cancel, but I called them anyway just to make sure it was done properly.

            • @digitalbath: how did you go so far?
              streaming, gaming, compare with SL?
