LG CS 65" Self Lit OLED AI 4K UHD Smart TV (2022) $2688 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ JB Hi-Fi

1010

The newly released LG CS 65" is priced at $2688 at JB Hifi during the upcoming Black Friday sales.

For those unaware, the CS is essentially the C1 panel equipped with a C2 processor. Would I be better off waiting to see how the C2 EVO is discounted over Boxing Day?

Mod Update 21/11 5pm: Deal is now live online.

As long as its not in the title, its not a dupe.

Should add the 55" ($1888?) to the post too.

        • Or make a new post, but maybe the mods would deem that excessive…

    • +2

      Who cares.

  • +51

As a reminder, if JB prices end with 88(clearance) that means that's the lowest they will go on that item

    • +4

I didn't know that, thanks! The CS TVs must be having a very limited run given they were only recently released. LG is likely trying to clear out old C1 parts. Hopefully means C2's will see heavy discounts next.

      • See my comment down below, the CS is a holiday stunt model which solely exists to stop price erosion of the C2 model so you’re unlikely to see significant price movement on the C2 until end of life in Q1 23

        • I have a dilemma..
I don't actually need the TV until after Christmas, but I'm afraid if I miss out over Black Friday the CS could sell out. The other option is to wait for potential C2 discounts over Boxing Day, but it's difficult to determine if this will even happen. I'm doubtful we'l see the C2 priced comparatively to the CS any time soon. What would you do?

          • +3

@trist10: It’s probably reasonably safe to wait it out. And you’ll likely pick up either a leftover CS or a C2 for cheap (though not necessarily as cheap as the CS) toward the end of January or into February as they start to clear stock. This is what usually happens.

There’s basically two scenarios that can play out.
1: Demand for the CS far outstrips supply and the entire allotment is sold/pre sold before Boxing Day and there’ll be nothing to take demand away from the core models (C2) for Boxing Day and into clearance. This has happened before when there’s been a very strong stunt model offering and/or the supplier failed to bring enough stock into the country.

2: Supply for the CS far outstrips demand and there’s leftover stock carried through Boxing Day and then stores are scrambling to clear them all in Q1. In this scenario prices for the core models (C2) will potentially stay higher, but the CS will still be available at the Black Friday prices (or even lower). This has happened before when a stunt model has had a critical flaw (think something like the A2 with only 50Hz).

It’s hard to predict as I’m no longer in the industry, but it will (as usual) come down to supply and demand. How many containers they brought in, if there’s another shipment for Boxing Day, and how many buyers are out there with disposable income (inflation/interests rate rises etc).

      • +1

This absolutely isn't true. I work at JB and these TVs certainly aren't on clearance yet. They're managed warehouse stock which means stores can still order them in until the stock becomes Quit/EOL.

    • +5

That's new to me. Thanks for that tip.

    • +7

      @bitlined Are you sure?

A few of us managed to get bigger markdowns on 77G1 a few months back where the price was $4,888. Ended up getting it for $4,400 in store.

      • +3

That's an amazing price either way for a 77" OLED g series

      • +1

        Was it store specific?

        • +1

No, everyone from OB purchased from various stores nationwide where stock remained.

          • @tof: A JB employee had told me this, I'm assuming you guys negotiated on one on one-or a payment link messaged to you

            • +1

@bitlined: Hehe wellllll I called a few places to make sure and yes 4888 was the best around town 🤗

      • +8

88 means that is the lowest retail price they will display.

NOT the lowest price they will sell it for.

    • That's a real insult.

    • +7

I don't understand so many upvotes on this comment yet there's been evidence that contradicts the statement. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      • +3

It's probably something JB head office tell thier staff to cap discounting. Often the sales person is told a purchase price higher than what the store manager has access to, which is higher than what the regional manger can see. I wouldn't buy into a price ending in 88 being the lowest you can get.

        • +1

There is a Go Sell price that they encourage salespeople to stop discounting past as it significantly effects commisions below it. A salesperson can discount slightly past that but it is up to their discretion whether it's worth losing commision/other sales stats. Any other discounting must be approved by a manager (usually seen in price matches/bundles). Salespeople can also see the price that JB pays the supplier for stock if they know what they're doing, so whether JB makes money off a sale is very transparent to staff.

    • +1

That is factually incorrect, as evidenced with the posts below and my own experience. The clearance price part may be true, but not being able to go lower is not. This misinformation may stop someone from trying their luck to bargain further and actually cost people lost savings. Could you edit your comment?

    • +1

Worked at JB for almost six years and never heard of that… usually its M, EL, Q stock codes on the PDA instead

  • +1

I wonder if LG will be nice and support the CS the same with updates as the C2 atleast if the processor is the same. Or if they'll be bastards and stop a year earlier with the C1

    • -2

      LOL triggered someone

TV companies regularly stop supporting products claiming that model can't support said new updates.

      • +13

Triggered? Dude anyone spending over $2000 on something deserves some decent support.

        • -1

          And who said I disagree?

LG SHOULD support the CS as long as they do the C2. It'd be fascinating to see if they do.

They seem to drop off support for older models quickly. Sony to their credit do alright. No personal experiences with Samsung though.

Do remember LG being woeful with phone support though.

          • +1

@scuderiarmani: My 2019 LG tv recently got an update, a pleasant surprise.

            • +1

@Spendmore: I remember Sony quitting on the 2015 models and doing a late extra one. I actually upgraded to 2019 before it happened, luckily had good offers on my Sets.

It'd be nice if TV companies gave them atleast 5 years….. Not too much to expect from a TV costing several thousand surely.

            • @Spendmore: My 2017 B7 is still getting updates.
Very happy with LG and will most likely stick with them.

        • +2

You responded to the guy responding to his own comment. He wasn't making that point about support in favour of LG.

  • +2

    Didn’t know these existed.
I’m aware the C1 panels are generally considered better- so these have those same advantages?

    • +5

What advantages do the C1 panels have over the evo panel? This is the first I've heard of this…

      • +4

I watched a breakdown video put together by a dude from a YouTube channel called ‘My Life in Gaming’; overall the C2 was marred by software issues and the retirement of several features compared to the C1, but I’m no expert so I can’t articulate why.
I’d just like to pick up a new TV, but I wouldn’t touch a C2 for the asking price and the C1s are very hard to find these days- so this CS model is extremely interesting.

      • The biggest flaw of these second gen evo panels is the pink tint on the sides. Seems basically nobody has a clean one from LG. Its just a matter of how much it shows, not if.

  • -1

How much better would this tv be than a Sony X9000 65” I have? Or better to go 75”?

    • +2

      Always get bigger when upgrade

      • +1

        Thats what she said

        It was hanging low.

    • 2 years newer? If you can get a good resale, sure, do it.

      Wouldn't bother otherwise.

      • Oled picture quality is worth it . Get OLED and 77inch

  • +2

C1 is the best so far

    • -3

It’s time to move on buddy. C2 is this year’s model and it’s better.

      • +4

Really a very marginal upgrade looking at Rtings numbers. Most people wouldn't appreciate the difference. But no us OzBargainers just have the latest and greatest because of the yearly release cycle. Consumerism at its finest!

        • -2

It’s not a choice between one or the other anymore. The C1 is gone and the C2 is here. Time to move on.

          • @tp0: Err, used is an option.

            • -4

@Techie4066: If you’re really that desperate to pay almost new price for last year’s TV go right ahead.

The C2 is brighter, more energy efficient, even less likely to suffer from image retention and burn in as well as running newer software with a faster SOC.

Buying a C1 because you heard about how good it was last year is insane. Maybe this time next year when the C3 is out you’ll be telling people to find a C2 instead?

            • @Techie4066: Used OLED is most certainly not an option unless there’s next to no hours on it

              • @cille745: That's weird, would you be happy keeping yours beyond the stage of "next to no hours on it"? And if you needed to sell your well-treated OLED I'm sure you'd be mighty disappointed to find no buyers, in your alternate reality!

                • @Techie4066: Yes, I’d keep it or pass it onto someone for an extremely low amount. OLEDs have a limited life span no matter how well they’re treated, and I wouldn’t feel comfortable passing on the equivalent of a car with 200,000kms for anything more than 1/4 of what I originally paid.

Given that a lot of people wanting to buy used OLEDs in general may not understand that, the sale would feel a bit too predatory for me, hence I’d likely keep it

          • +1

@tp0: i got a c1 not long for $2500 from JB HI FI with 5 year warranty and delivery - they are still around

    • Ehhh…burn-in is still an issue on cheap models, but nowadays the better OLED TVs (like this one) do much better in this regard, as they have anti-burn in features (pixel refresher).

    • +2

Any screen repair is too expensive. Not just OLED.

And stop making up numbers for their lifetime.

      • -1

Stop talking as a human being.

    • -5

You're right, but the OLED fans won't accept burn in is real.

I'm still holding out, maybe QD-OLED will be ok.

      • Why does it matter if LG replace all burnt in panels for free anyway

        • +2

Do they really? How long is the period on this?

          • @PabloVicioso: I’ve seen people with C7’s (2017) get them replaced this year

            • @cille745: I got burn in on my C7 within a few weeks! Obviously tech has improved a lot since then. Burn in doesnt seem to be too much if an issue these days. Only if you're using it for a monitor its a risk. The biggest problem ive seen is dead pixels, especially around the edges of OLEDs. Lots of people have had that, few videos showing it too

        • So if I own one for 6 years they'll replace it, no questions asked?

Seriously? Because if so, sure I'm in

    • -1

My 6 year old OLED with no burn in visible on real content would like a word.

    • LG has learned to mitigate and postpone burn-in (see HDTVTest YouTube videos - logo detection, pixel shifting, auto-dimming, etc.) but current panel technology is inherently prone to this and that’s that.

RTings have commenced a long-term reliability test project, so it’ll be interesting how it pans out for OLED. I suspect not too well.

      • Ratings did that test years ago, question is if New panels are better.

Curious about qdoled , but as a gamer, bit concerned about text on the display with the triangle pixels

      • RTings’ 2022 100 TV Accelerated Longevity Test - Every two months, we'll take uniformity and brightness measurements to see how they age over time and to look for any uniformity issues or change in brightness over time.

      • I suspect it would be much worse for gaming, with all the static HUD elements? That is what I'd upgrade my TV for, and I'd like the idea of getting a 4k oled. Been on 1080p far too long.

  • +4

I’ve got my eye on this one - after a month of TV hunting I think this might finally be the one I get! :D

  • +1

    This vs the Sony A80K?

    • +6

I did lots of research when trying to find a new TV. Was looking at the C2 and the A80K, consensus seems to be if you game C2, otherwise the A80K is better for movie and TV shows. I was set on the A80k, but ended up jumping on the G2 which is bloody spectacular. Couldn’t pass on the click frenzy deal on the G2 at the TGG

      • Was that an old deal? (I'm not familiar with with the LG model numbers)

    • +1

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbmG3NqAS-Q&ab_channel=HDTVTest

I was looking at the Samsung QN90B vs LG C2 and will likely opt for the former. There is no perfect TV and I am not used to the the Samsung TV controller - something that gets used as often as looking at the screen. The bloom around light sources does not bother me as aside from subtitles there are few instances I would notice it. Viewing angles are great and best of all screen brightness is significantly higher than the C2 and this will have a big impact in the room I will place it in. Not having to worry about screen burn in is icing on the cake.

It really just comes down to your own circumstances.

      • +3

I feel with the G2 in that mix would be the best of both worlds

U get the brightness and the gaming aspects.

Plus the picture in picture feature is pretty cool 😎

      • The Samsung looks awesome on paper, but sadly no Dolby Vision. It got kicked out early in my research. But has awesome potential!

        • +1

To please Samsung, new AppleTV+/4K will stream some in HDR10+. DV had a head-start, but, free is free.

      • Let me know if you want a discount code for Samsung website, can get 30% off the already discounted price, 85" comes down from $6999 to $3499.

        • Hi, could you share that with me please? Interested to get one. Thanks

  • +4

I went in to my local JB with a jpg of the catalogue on Friday, they did the Black Friday Price. I paid mostly in 10% off Gift Cards but forgot to use my Perks $10 off!
I will have it Monday, so if you want it don't wait. The salesman just asked his manager.

    • I asked my JB Hi-Fi store if I could do this, and they said “absolutely not.” My only option was to buy it at full price, then refund the difference on Tuesday.

Soooooo yeah, YMMV. I really don’t seem to have much luck with getting these perks and deals that other Ozbargainers seem to get!

      • +1

Same, called 4 stores in the area hoping to get one secured earlier and same story. One said after checking with a manager "we've been told not to, now that the catalogue has leaked online prices are subject to change". Another said "the manufacturer gives kickbacks to stores on these sales days, we can't sell before that or we're taking a loss". Others just said "no" lol

    • I thought the gift card sale was on next week? Did I miss it??? 😲

  • +2

I am in the market for OLED too but waiting for Samsung to releaset 70+ inch OLED. Going for Samsung because of the xbox game pass app feature.

    • Would be interesting to see how that works. Unless the tv has an xbox secretly built in, surely it would suffer the same fate as Stadia

      • +1

Xbox Game streaming works on phones, pcs and many other devices. Nothing fancy required.

Light years ahead of Stadia. Completely different model too.

        • WTF am I getting negged for these comments, weird.

    • +1

If you can spend that sorta money on a TV, I'd say it's worth spending for a local console instead of streaming at 1080p on a large very high quality 4k screen.

      • I feel if your looking for a lg oled U already have A ps5 or Xbox?

The 4k lord of the rings slaps on these TVs wow

  • +1

I am after something from 75" and above, hopefully there is a good deal on BF

    • +1

Check out JB and wait for their last year model clearance.

      • When do they usually do old model clearance?

  • +1

LG CS or Sony A80K or even LG QNED91, all are on my watchlist but to be honest, can't decide.

  • 🤞 for 75” / 75” OLED this Black Friday

    • The 77” CS will be $4795 as part of the same catalogue.

      • Such a huge price diff
