Pretty niche monitor but I think would be great for WFH using a desktop PC and a laptop with the inbuilt KVM and USB C PD. 3840 x 1600 seems like a pretty great resolution for gaming given current hardware.

Previous version LG 38WN95C featured around the same price at it's lowest. This appears to be ATL on Amazon according to the camels.

Keep in mind the recent Kogan 38 ultrawide for $499 is reportedly a similar LG panel (B grade?) but with a few less bells and whistle and… Kogan.

Still trying to work out what I'm replacing my aging 27" 1440p monitor with but this probably ain't it unless it drops another $500!

For this price, I'd rather go for a 34" OLED Ultrawide.
    This is overpriced!!!

I bought a 5k Apple studio display with height and tilt adjustment stand and I bought a cooler master GP27U 4k 144hz IPS mini LED display for my second display.

all up cost me about 4k total

so I wouldn't' say this is over priced lol.

Breaking news : Person that buys Apple products has skewed perception of value.

        • +2

I just like metal products :D

      • +4

It's still overpriced. You just overspent by a lot more

    • +5

Those extra 160 pixels in height though, amirite?

      • +2

        1600-1440=160 ✅

Someone who has been using a much older Dell DW3818 (3840x1600) for a few years almost daily, I will say I cant work with 1440 now that I have worked with 1600 vertical pixels. There is a niche in the market for this resolution unfortunately.

Use both side by side to arrive at your own decision.

        • I will say I cant work with 1440 now that I have worked with 1600 vertical pixels.

Yeah I don't understand why all these widescreens are so short, it's like looking through a mailbox.

      • I have the Alienware aw3821dw and I'm happy with it.

In my opinion, the extra 160 pixels is worth it if you are working on the monitor, but not for purely gaming.

This one has USB-C, which the Alienware doesn't have and also Freesync pro rather than G-sync which makes it more flexible.

last time I check this it was around this price. and that was back in 2021….

there's no way I can justify this purchase, especially compared to 55/48/42 inches OLED TVS.
    1. IPS panel, slow response, average contrast
    2. not full 4K resolution, doesn't fit PS5 and some PC games

This model only came out a year ago, you might have it confused with the LG 38WN95C

I've been using it for the past ~6 months and absolutely love it. I dont game much and mainly use it for productivity whch is why I didnt go for an OLED, also I much prefer ultrawide over standard 16:9. The inbuilt KVM is also a godsend.

      • +1

likely same panel, just different model&case.

this may not be a bad monitor but for the price there's much better choices around

    • +1

I don't understand why an IPS panel is being sold at this price.
The brightness and contrast are terrible.
However, I believe this size and ratio are better than a 34".
That said, I do agree that the resolution could be better.

    • I don't disagree, and I'm hoping the LG C4 goes around $1k so I can grab one of them to try, but this is a slightly different value proposition with the easy single USB C connectivity and KVM

      1. not full 4K resolution, doesn't fit PS5 and some PC games

As with the Dell 38" monitor (that's even dearer!), these aren't meant for gaming. They are designed for professional use in the productivity area.

I went with the Kogan during the last $499 deal (which happens every few weeks) and I'm really impressed by it. Zero dead pixels or flaws that I can see so far.

If you want this size but don't want to drop this amount of money on the genuine LG I'd recommend it.

    • Does the kogan work with g-sync or only free-sync

      • It's G-sync "compatible". Shows up in the nvidia control panel for me with RTX 3070 laptop GPU.

  • Keep in mind the recent Kogan 38 ultrawide for $499 is reportedly a similar LG panel (B grade?) but with a few less bells and whistle and… Kogan.

From a brief browse of the specs, here are 2 notable differences the LG monitor has over Kogan and other generic brands using B grade panels.

    • USB C provides 90 watts of power instead of 65 (may make some difference for higher powered Macbooks and other laptops),
    • HDR 600 instead of the basic HDR 400 that almost all monitors qualify for.

HDR 400 is considered a "fake" certification by some because the requirements are so weak that almost all modern monitors qualify for it.
Most enthusiasts do not consider HDR 400 to be real HDR.

HDR 600 is considered the bare minimum for HDR and is still on the weaker side.

Overall, I wouldn't consider a 300% price difference to be justifiable, especially when you consider the increasing proliferation of QD-OLED panels and OLED more generally.
I'm not saying everyone should just buy OLED, since there are still some lingering aging concerns, but IPS panels should definitely be sold much cheaper than this.

  • If using mainly for productivity rather gaming, you might also want to look at the Lenovo R45W-30 for ~$600 less. It is DQHD rather than ultrawide and only 400HDR, but includes 75W USBC, KVM, ethernet port, etc. Does take up a lot of desk space though.

  • For this price, would it be better to consider a 42/43" 4K 16:9 docking monitor? 42" 16:9 is wider and taller than 38" 21:9. The only problem I see is the sitting distance for such a tall screen. My desk depth is 800mm but I know not many have such a deep desk.

  • I commented this on the last Kogan deal:

"I took a gamble on a similar one from TaoBao which uses the same panel (I think).

Cost me $430 shipped, including GST. Just have to wait for ages for the sea shipping.

Here's the link if anyone is interested:

It was a bit difficult to navigate, so didn't post it here. I had to use screen translate and bumble my way through the menus to choose the 38 inch 144hz one."

I bought it on 14/01/2025 and it cleared customs last night. Should be delivered this week. Chose sea shipping because it was too expensive for air.

Please ping me an update about how it is when you get it - not sure it's worth the rigmarole to save the $69 (nice) from Kogan but am curious how it is!

      • Will do. I wasn't in a rush and knew it was a gamble. Someone in India drove and picked it up from China, they said it was good with no dead pixels so we'll see.

    • You are mad. If the monitor arrives broken, it will be difficult to return.

Another alternative, Amazon are selling the LG Flex Gaming OLED TV for $2,181, looks like you can pre-order. Have seen this before for $2,999 at JB.

I believe this is a C3 OLED Panel that can be adjusted from a flat panel to a curved one with the remote control. It's kind of like the 42" C Series OLED but upgraded with the option of making screen curved when you want to. A lot of people on here talk about 42” C Series as great WFH monitor as well as Gaming monitor - this Flex TV would be another level of WFH/Gaming monitor beyond C Series one
