Good deal for 55” OLED, if you're after a cheap, value-for-money, basic, entry into the world of OLED. No Dolby Vision would be deal-breaker for me but maybe there are some HDR10+ titles out there somewhere that can be streamed

This pricing is accessed via Westpac Offers Samsung Store

Not quite as sharp a deal as the 55" S90C debacle from last Nov: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/877100 but at least Samsung are more likely to honour this deal

Price on retailers websites currently is $3295, & 55" Frame is $1795 - so this is good shopping

  • Not a bad deal, hope to see steeper discounts soon. I'm holding out for a good 65" deal

How do you get access to the store?

    • I have a Home Loan with Westpac. I access it via the Westpac App. When I sign in on the App, in bottom right hand corner I click on "More" & then I click on "Westpac Rewards". After that I click on "Discounts & Extras", & then filter to "Electronics". Samsung Store is the first thing that comes up

  • I guess you need to be associated with Westpac?

If this is considered entry level OLED, what would be on the high end of the market?

The ratings has S90D as the 'Best TV' but OP is implying it's entry level?

        • Yeah, it pays to watch reviews and do your own research.

I bought LG OLEDs so I obviously think W-OLED is better…. I updated my 55" CX to a 65" G4 & I reckon it's better than QD-OLED. The equivalent in Samsung to G4 is the S95D, I looked at this but found the Matt finish raised the blacks, making them look grey; when I'm buying OLED & paying the "OLED premium", I want proper inky blacks, not greyish blacks. Plus I found the colour on the Samsung to be too much, especially with something like skin tones. Plus I wouldn't want to not be able to watch streaming content in Dolby Vision, which would be the case with the Samsung

That's my take, different people perceive the 2 technologies differently, some love the way the colours are on the Samsung

In reading stuff about the new OLED's for 2025, sounds like Samsung is the only brand using QD-OLED - all other brands use W-OLED, not sure why that is? Maybe other TV brands are all moving away from QD-OLED tech

          • @Coolhandlucas: Sounds like there's a few things to consider I wasn't aware of so appreciate the insights

          • @Coolhandlucas: are you sure S90D is not W-OLED ? I remember there was some outrage on that as QD-OLED is considered to be better than W-OLED for colour. S90C is QD-OLED though. All colour-related issues are just colour settings, isn't it? also disable that weird frame smoothing thing.

          • @Coolhandlucas: G4 is the first TV and S95D is the second.

Reflections are very distracting IMO. I would take the S95D without hesitation.

            • @Maths Debater: I'm only biased cause I own a C2 & a G4. From what I've read online the pixel has a greyish appearance because of the matte finish that is applied to the S95D, to prevent reflections & minimise glare. I get some reflection on the my 2 LG ones if it's a bright day but I'd rather that then not have completely black screen. Next time you're in a JB store, ask the sales person to turn the Samsung off & then have a look if the screen is dark, inky black. All the reviewers refer to the Samsung screen as being "raised black" which I've since learnt kinda means not quite black - I had never heard that expression before

I'm probably having my opinions shaped too much by what I'm reading but that's how I see it myself personally. I have also seen many reviews that are full of praise for the Samsung, there was a Rtings article linked here that has it as a Top TV, so it just comes down to personal preference I suppose

First time I’ve ever seen the S90D described as “cheap”, “basic” and “entry level”.
