BankSA Amplify Qantas Platinum: Bonus 60,000 Qantas Points ($3000 Spend in 90 Days), $0 1st Year Fee for Existing Group Customer

1470

Needed a few more points to level up my points club this year. Surprised to find a deal only requiring spend and thought I would share.

Deal only shows up when you're logged in and apply from the products page.

Existing customer exclusive offer
60,000 bonus Qantas Points when you spend $3,000 or more on eligible purchases in the first 90 days from card approval>.

  • Existing Customer Amplify Platinum First Year Card Fee Waiver: The first-year card fee waiver is available for existing customers when you apply and are approved for a new Amplify Platinum credit card between 27th October 2021 and 31st December 2022. After the first year, the card fee will be debited to your account on the 12-month anniversary of the first transaction on your account and annually thereafter.

Plus, 0% p.a. interest on balance transfers for 24 months

Offer not available if you’ve held a BankSA, St.George or Bank of Melbourne rewards card in the last 12 months. New cards only, T&Cs apply

P.S. Not well advertised. Surprised I could get this deal after never having a BankSA account - Have been with St. George and was going to go with them, fortunately I could not update account details online. Discovered I could use same old St. George details to login to BankSA + update details. When I went to apply with them this discount deal came up.

Good deal, I'm on this exact same deal but with St George

    • How is your experience with St. George. Their customer support is disgusting for me. My card was approved more than 2 months back and i haven't received my card. Every time i call up, wait hour an hour on phone and answer is that they will look into it but nothing happens

      • Fine for me the four or so times I've had cards with them. But I've heard some people have terrible times with them too :(. Hopefully yours gets sorted soon and I'd tell them to forward date your date of approval cos you haven't received the damn card yet

        • Is it possible to get them to call you instead of waiting on call for half an hour.

  • +1

It seems the link is gor Amplify points card, here is the correct link https://www.banksa.com.au/personal/credit-cards/frequent-fly…

    • Thanks updated. Still this isn't the link you can use to apply or see the deal. Only way to see the deal is go to BankSA login and then find link under products tab.

  • -5

Might be a targeted offer. Says $279 annual fees

  • +5

Whenever I am ready to churn St George/Bank SA/Bank of Melbourne (i.e. when I haven't held any for over 12 months), I just pick the one with the nicest looking card. Bank SA for me atm.

Not that it really matters as I use my phone 95% of the time anyway and rarely actually sight the card.

  • +3

If you don't have an existing saving account or other product with them can you sign up for a savings account and get the deal?

  • +2

Can get $40 for opening and using a free account too.
    https://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/bank-accounts/savings-t…

    • Thanks
Seems when i try to open the free account it goes straight to "something went wrong"
      will try again tomorrow

  • Signature 90,000 points for $139 (first year) or
    Platinum 60,000 points for $0

    Which is better?

    • +4

      Depends on:

      • The value you personally place on a Qantas Frequent Flyer point (some people use a rough $0.01 per point)
      • The ability to hit the minimum spend on the Signature as part of your normal expenses. The spend requirement for Signature is usually more than Platinum. Spending more than you would typically is a trap, unless you're happy to bring forward payment of things, gift cards, etc.
      • Your certainty in being approved a Signature, or Platinum. The former will usually have a higher minimum credit limit. This would be based on your current credit profile, and income. Not worth risking a credit inquiry if you have substantial home loan/personal loan/credit cards open.
      • is there an option for a pro rata refund on the signature card?

        • +1

St. George hasn't given me any refund when I have churned away from them before.

      • Good points. The other bit of consideration is if you frequently churn through cards, it may make more sense to get this Platinum one first so you required spend is only $3k, and apply for another card that gives you more than 30k points and requires $3k spend too.

        • A fair consideration. For serial churners, the options may be running low for other 'value' bonus offers, or they may still be waiting for their cool off period to complete.

I guess also, one might take the perspective of efficiently getting QFF points for each credit enquiry made, maximise points if they're gunning for one of the Points Club tiers, and also knowing they should maximise 'value' from a particular Financial Institution before starting the 12-18month timer.

        • Ta. Hope you got the humour though. :)

    • +1

I usually always go for the free one. But then depends if you are trying to reach point club Plus and you are missing few thousands for example

  • +2

Spend $12k or $3k. Your choice.

    • Only $6k in first 90 days for Signature.

      • My bad, was looking at the Rewards Signature card.

  • Just logged in to St. George and clicked on products but still seeing $99, is this targeted?

    • If you have a home loan the card is free

    • +1

Scroll down. Last time the free promotion was a promotion under the $99 offer.

    • BankSA is offering not St. George. But you can use your login details from St. George to login to BankSA and then find it via the link inside the BankSA logged in area (choose on the left the option that starts with 'Products' then look for the credit card) EDIT: read my P.S. I originally was going for this from within St. George, they didn't have it, and I was lucky to find this option with BankSA.

      • But to get the annual fee waived you have to be an existing customer. I presume this means of BankSA.

      • +1

just checked st george in the app and the offer is there

    • +1

I'm an existing customer with StG. Log in and can see the same offer.

      • Yes my bad, can see it now after scrolling down to the middle of the page

  • It seems a lot of these banks are starting to require you to be an existing customer to get these offers. They didn't realise churners will happily open an accompanying savings account too.

  • How can you find out if your last Bank of Melb or St George card has been more than 12 months? Call them?

    • +1

Check your emails - they send you an email when you close your card.

Also - if you churn cards its useful keeping a spreadsheet of what cards you've held and what dates you closed them.

      • +2

Or check your history at CreditSavvy or CreditSimple.

    • order a free credit report, good idea to do this anyway

  • Incredible deal, thanks for the pointer OP.

    Expiry date should be updated.

  • when does this deal expire?

  • Logged in on internet with St George ID but still quotes $99 fee

    • -1

      look harder

  • I haven’t been with St.George for a couple years. No other account besides the previous credit card.
Found my old access number, managed to reset password. See offer for Both cards with reduced annual fee. Thanks.

  • +2

The Amplify Platinum Rewards offer is better I reckon, same $99 annual fee but waived for first year (with the "Existing customer offer", or $29 for first year otherwise), 100,000 bonus amplify points worth up to $450 in eGift cards, spend $3K in first 90 days.
    https://www.banksa.com.au/personal/credit-cards/rewards/ampl…

    • yes, been there earlier this year too

  • +1

d'oh only just signed up to the Westpac 70k one a few days ago. Would've rather saved the $50 QF fee this one doesn't mention charging.

    • +1

10k points difference = $100 valued at 1c per point so still more than $50 fee

      • Fair enough, but I'm not the sort to really spend points or spend them wisely lol. I just have them banking up in the background. Mr. Burns voice: I think I'd rather keep the $50 :P

    • Do both!

    • Whats your application process like? I applied in mid aug and is still waiting for a response, call wait times over 30mins every time.

  • Thanks OP - 90K Qantas points for $99 (new account cashback $40 and apply Signature for $139) with BOM.

Second card for the financial year done.. 3 more to go to get to 500,000 Qantas points per year target!

    • Signature is $279 and 6k spend? 🤔

      • +1

I think Signature is $139 (for existing customer) and $6k spend
Its under the "Product" tab of St George app: https://ibb.co/TvNWXZx

But if you take the advantage of $40 cash back (open new saving account, transfer $500 and make 5 transactions using the Visa Debit Card) https://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/bank-accounts/savings-t…
The net cost is $99 after $6k spending (for 90k QF points)

Whether the $99 is worth for the extra 30k points is pretty subjective
But I will probably go on this path to achieve the 350k point club plus requirements

  • Does water bill, council rates etc count towards minimum spend? I can't remember.

    • +3

From my understanding government related spending count towards the $3k spend
but will not earn the points compare to normal spending (i.e 0.5QFF per $1)

Purchases that are not eligible to earn points include interest, fees and charges, cash, or ATM cash advances, cash equivalent transactions, gambling transactions, a purchase from or payment to a local, state or federal government or government related agency, BPAY or similar transactions (such as Post Billpay), refunds and balance transfers debited from the card account.

If you want to ensure the you get those QFF earnings at the same time
You might be able to pay water bills or council rates via AusPost app with paypal
if the transaction is via paypal then it should count towards the spend + earn points

Otherwise, another option is to pay those bills using Beem it with BPay

However, there are some bills that doesn't allow using AusPost or Beem with BPay (eg. VicRoads, Land Tax etc.)
Then you can use services like Sniip
      But there's a 1.5% surcharge

      • Which one i should use to pay income tax coming up in October? Thanks.

      • The same terms are stated under the Bonus Qantas Points Offer section for eligible purchases…so now I'm not sure if they still count towards the $3k spend.

  • +3

Declined for 6k credit limit… Made 150k pretax last financial year and partner made 120k. No other cards, last one closed 4 months ago. Only thing I can think of is I chose "Contract" rather than Permanent Full Time as my employment type as technically I am on rolling 1-year full time temporary contracts. Oh well.

    • Did you open a new transaction account from them recently?

      • No. Had an old St George login (no account) so I applied via St George for the same offer.
Only other thing is I started but didn't submit an application for this same card a week ago and just now submitted another application. Had a look at credit report and didn't realise they'd hit me twice for it. The reason I started a new one today was because it wouldn't let me enter my new address in the old application

        • I would suggest, try chat or calling them. Sometimes the computer also presses the wrong button!

          • @Ehty: Gave them a call and they said nothing can be done. Computer thinks I can't service a credit card with a limit equal to my fortnightly pre-tax income. 🤷

            • @Save Medicare: Rubbish, the card limit is usually more than the fortnightly/ monthly income

    • Oh man thought it was just me, a bit peeved that this is going to show up on my credit report now. They kept asking for more evidence of my rental income (been leasing since July 2021), bank statements and private tenancy agreement not enough. Wanted my tax return but I haven't done it yet so they said only other option is to remove the rental income, bam declined.

    • I'm also getting rejected for a 6k limit (both by St George and BoM), despite being a permanent staff with high enough income. I just refinanced my home loans this week so I wonder if their system is seeing "double" (the old and new loans).

A bit put off by this though so looking at a Citi card as alternative.

      • Basically game of luck with those overseas assessor.

        • They were auto rejections, in my case, as I got the rejection sms as soon as I hit the Submit button.

  • Is this first year fee free working on BoM as well?

  • I'm trying to apply but keep getting an error message that I'm still logged into internet banking? Like thats some kind of problem? Can't proceed with the CC application through either Bank SA or St George…

    • Sounds like either an issue with your account or browser. Try another fresh browser like edge, chrome or Firefox. If that doesn't work then you probably have to call to unlock your account.

    • +1

Oh you need to allow the popup in your browser, that is the issue. It opens a new window and ad blocker or the browser security doesn't allow it.

      • Cheers will give it a shot

  • -1

Just got a random 30,000 QFF points in my account with the label Westpac Altitude Qantas. Haven't met the minimum spend requirement yet, so not sure what's going on. Anyone else have that?

    • +1

this is not Westpac card though? maybe you have another credit card with Westpac that gives you 30k points in your 2nd membership year?

      • +2

My apologies, wrong thread gah! Too many credit cards on the go ha.

  • My login at St George worked and my last login was on the 9/12/2020, conditionally approved and sent them the required info.
Fairly easy and straight forward process so far.

  • Process has been a bit messy for me. 2 weeks since submitting the application and they have asked for a fair bit of info and taking stuff in branch too. Currently at a bit of a stalemate - they want a letter from Amex confirming a past card is infact closed as it's still showing on my credit report. Although amex willing to send me a confirmation email, apparently that's not sufficient according to BSA. See how we go. I'm committed to the cause now.

  • Wait wut? Had an old st george account I closed many years ago, but my login details still work, so therefore I was able to login here even though I don't hold a BankSA account - so that means I just apply and I get the deal??

    • Apply for St George card instead. Same deal.

      • Sounds like it's a bit of an annoying application process, not sure I can be bothered but thanks will give it some thought.

  • What is the definition of an existing customer? I currently have BOM credit card only. Would I be considered an existing customer?

  • I found post billpay via PayPal is no longer counted as eligible spend. I paid water and council rate then it showed up bill payment government etc. Also no points on statement.

    • +1

Just receive my statement too and doing some reconciliation. Paying via BeemIt for water / council rate is still deemed eligible, paying direct even for water bill is not.

  • Can you double dip, Stgeorge, cancel then repeat with BankSA?

    • Offer not available if you’ve held a BankSA, St.George or Bank of Melbourne rewards card in the last 12 months

  • Received 60k bonus points immediately after first statement.

  • Is there any benefit in applying at a branch? I opened the transactional everyday account last week and they are encouraging me to come into the branch and apply there when I pick up my debit card. I assume that this is just for the business and that it is not likely to be faster or more likely to be a successful application via the branch. Could be easier to validate docs potentially

  • Is this still $0 if you create an account before applying?

    • Yep.

  • This is good for the sign-on bonus, but not so good for earning. All payments to local, state or federal Gov are excluded so rates and some utilities not included.
