It’s like telling people who drive to take public transport. Why interfere with people’s lives

        • +18

backtracking won't save you from the negs XD

            • +15

@graceyym: I can respect a dude who stands on their valid ground. But any other andriod apart from China phones please. And if that ends up being an iphone, then at least there is a strong history of Apple not giving even the FBI/CIA shit when asked. MAybe they take the data for themselves, but thier unwillingness to share it makes for a sense of secureness.

            • @graceyym: How do the SoCs compare? Does the Oppo have Ceramic Shield?

            • -2

@graceyym: 12GB of RAM, might make Android almost useable.

            • @graceyym: Just looking at the spec page tells you very little. However looking at the spec page seeing stuff like using a 7nm processor vs a 5nm processor tend to suggest you are are comparing a last gen phone with the latest generation product. Apple generally offer the best display in objective testing until the next Samsung flagship. Apple tend to always have one of the best camera’s until the following generation. Apples usually offers the fastest SoC until at least the next generation snapdragon. Storage tech is usually performs better on Apple phones too since they use nvme vs ufs and thus has typically performed better in testing. Looking at spec page I can see value in the iPhone if you care about having the best performance in these areas.

Apple offer long term support. Apps and game support is better. Apple devices depreciate in value slower. That’s generally the reason people want Apple.

      • who 'drives'

Well, people like to get OS updates outside of a year or two of owning it. And they like receiving the OS update on day 0. Yeah and they also like an app store that's sanitised. Also they enjoy an Australian warranty for 2 years that is swapped out on the spot on site for hardware faults, even software faults. They also love seamless transition with an unbeaten iCloud solution for back-ups and restoring their OS. Oh and a secure OS is pretty cool, too.

Mostly people who buy just don't give a rats what other people are buying, as long as they're happy. I can't ever figure out why their are Android babies on every Apple post spouting their same tired cliches.

      • Yeah and they also like an app store that's sanitised.

Do you have evidence of this? You replying to OP, suggesting the Google play store is not sanitised.

        • Have never had issues with Google Play. What issues are you referring to?

        • +1

By sanitised I meant it is much more heavily vetted than Google's app store - apologies for the confusion.

      • -4

Inferring that Apple fan-babies don't crap on about how much better their iPhone is whenever a new one is released and how the innovative a new feature it has, when it's been available for months or years with on Android or one of the customised variants like One UI

        • Features already present just like all cars are the same because they have steering wheel and 4 wheels.

        • +4

lol you're so far out of reality, dude. You just swallow aaaall the cliche talking points Android babies rabbit on about. Good for you. You don't see iPhone users popping into every thread that isn't about iPhones and rabbiting on about their phone of choice. Can definitely say that the same isn't true for iPhone threads - always plenty of DaE AnDrOiD is So mUcH bEtTeRrr11!

        • +1

No they don't, it's just the Fandroids who just need to make their voice heard, as if they are trying to justify their own decision. Buy the phone you want and shut up about it, no one cares. You use it, you enjoy it, end of story.

    • +6

Yeah nah. I don't like Apple, but no way I would say an oppo is better.

    • +2

But Apple's older iPhones are faster than the Oppo Find X2 Pro. The iPhone 12 is even faster still.

    • -3

I am overwhelmed by the attention. So many Apple fanatics here!

    • +2

Sometimes people forget that different people think differently #isheep

      • +2

        GREAT point!

    • +1

I've never seen so many negs.

      • +1

Its incredible right! Even I'm amazed..

    • +2

All these down votes, what is this? Reddit? only censor people if they actually write crude offensive things.

      • +1

Apparently mentioning Andriod on an Apple OzBargain post is offensive hahah

  • +79

$2800+ Total for 24 months locked in…….. hmmmmm

    • +21

and for such minimal upgrade from the previous model. Tsk tsk.

      • +7

I didn't get the previous model. I tend to refresh every 2 years.

        • +5

I find with iPhones I can stretch it out to 4-ish years easily, with usually a battery replacement halfway.

          • @skittlebrau: Yeah, on an iPhone X (2017) here. Still going great on the latest OS, expecting many more years of updates. I don’t see a reason to upgrade until next year. If I do upgrade, this phone can go to a family member who is currently using my old iPhone 6S (2015, still on latest OS). The Samsung alternative was an S8, which would be trash by now, no more updates, battery and screen would be destroyed.

I reckon android people probably buy twice as many phones at least compared to Apple people. Horrible environmental impact, just because they looking at specifications rather than lifecycles.

The expectation that such a complex device should be thrown out after two years is unsustainable and dumb.

      • +10

Doesn't seem like many models from any brand these days are major upgrades from the previous models.

        • +8

Is there any phone that smashes the previous years iteration? Legit, I'm curious. Majority of iPhone users have had their previous iPhone for 3/4+ years, so every new phone is a huge improvement from the last one they owned.

          • +4

@ThithLord: I still use iphone 6s as second device, replaced battery twice

            • +2

@V003: Ya I'm on the iPhone SE 1st Gen - waiting for the iPhone 12 mini.

              • +5

@ThithLord: personally i m done with apple. now its just about convenience or if its bargain or not.
Iphones have never been bargain at least for me

                • -1

@V003: Yep, no one thinks they're a bargain. The question people need to ask is is it worth spending the money, to me? and I answer yes to that question.

              • +1

                @ThithLord:

Ya I'm on the iPhone SE 1st Gen - waiting for the iPhone 12 mini.

Ha, yes. Exact same here. We should see a diff.

          • +1

@ThithLord: It feels that we're lucky these days if it can even be considered a sidegrade. If last year's had the SD855, there's no guarantee this year will have the SD865

The 12 Pro at least has a substantially better camera, better build quality and lidar along with 5g and the magsafe charger and finally starts at 128GB storage (although should be more). If they gave it a 120hz screen too I'd call this a massive big upgrade for a year on year. Personally I'm buying an 11 because I don't want to shell out much and there's not a huge leap to the 12, but the 12 Pro delivers pretty strongly (especially when there's no cheaper option).

If they keep this up I can definitely see everyone with an X/11 jumping on the 13, even though their phones will easily have a good year or two of life left. Especially if 5G picks up over the next 12 months.

            • +2

@freefall101: We're reaching saturation in this market, there's few improvements left for manufacturers to wow us with.

The storage options are bullspit, yep. If I was in line to buy the iPhone 13, I'd definitely expect 120Hz Screens but honestly I just don't care about that spec lol. It'll sap battery - the screen on my iPhone SE looks pretty good so the iPhone 12 will be light-years ahead.

I'm going for the 12 Mini over the 11 because of, mainly, the chassis size as well as the chassis design. I love the boxier look.

        • +5

Ye but this site generally loves shitting on Apple and ignores the fact for other phones.

      • +4

This is OzRRP nowadays though, I want to see some real bargains

      • -1

Don't forget due it amazing 5g it is sucking more power from the battery, being worst than previous generation. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.tomsguide.com/amp/news/ipho…

Equiv Optus plan seems to be $3114.48 over 24

    • +12

Wow I pay $70 or less per year for my sim slut plan which leaves me a stack of money to buy a phone outright.

      • +40

Sim slut plan? Tell me more!

        • +23

          Kogan 90 days 60GB $14.90 then Belong $40 starter pack for $20 - 3 months.

          Rinse & repeat.

          • +1

@Arthur Dunger: Been doing similar for 2 years, but instead with prepaid 1 yr plans. still miles cheaper than phone plans. My prepaid cost is $150-160/yr (so ~300 in 2 yrs). still not as impressive as your $70/yr but still cheap, I don't like to switch plans every few months so best option for now. I think I got my last plan for 160 from catchconnect (powered by optus). 120gb data for the year and unlimited calls&text.

          • @Arthur Dunger: You forgot catch $4.90 after cashback for 3 months

            • @MDSUXKS: I can't find that. Doesn't look like it's available anymore.

              • +1

@Arthur Dunger: Ahhh maybe is seasonal. Sorry. I just got a few months ago them a switch to the 10 bucks kogan ones so I got 6 months of 20gb month for 25 bucks in total.

        • find cheap deals (when posted on here under "mobile" category and port across to them…

I'm currently on 100gb data / month to month - all I can eat including international calls with amaysim for $30 every 28 days.

there's a few deals going on with other vendors like kogan / coles etc so pick and choose which ones suit best.

        • 😅

        • +2

Sounds like that Sim hurt you pretty bad !

      • I usually get the best phone and plan as ill just claim it as a work expense.

        • +4

Obviously my suggestion is pointless for people who can claim the full 100% of a phone plan on work expenses.

          • +1

@Arthur Dunger: Which is almost no one

          • -2

@Arthur Dunger: Full 100% myth? In the best case, you avoid (the difference of) the 26% tax. The rest is YOUR expense.
If you paid $2000 for something that you could do with $1000, you saved $260 & paid extra $740 for the extra $1000 expense.
What about the opportunity cost of missing something else more essential with the extra $740 luxury expense?
The savings still apply for the other items that might be more essential for progress.

People focus on money & miss LIFE.

            • +3

@taki: Top tax rate is 45%. Plus medicare levy/surcharge. Plus HECS if you have HECS.

LIFE for me is about working hard and also having nice things, like the latest phone. Stop trying to make everyone else see the world the way you do.

      • +1

I'm back with the sim sluts, love it :)

    • +5

I miss the plans of 2 years ago, were actually worth it unlike these new ones designed to lock you into an overpriced data plan with it

    • +2

readerr0r, please put $2800 real total price in post, as required by Australian consumer law. Preferably in the headline.

      Existing post is misleading.

      • +21

Are you implying OzBargain posters need to adhere to the ACL? 😂

        • +1

I'm not a stickler for regulation, but it would be the decent thing.
We are trying to be helpful here and provide accurate info, not doing marketing.

      • +2

But if OP does that, they know it won't LOOK like a bargain anymore. :P

    • Telstra at least has no penalty for leaving early, other than needing to finish off your interest free phone repayments.

    • complete with S20s features

    • Nah by then a house deposit will be 100K.

does anyone need 150gb data per month? barely use 1gb per month these days WFH

    • +3

150gb wouldn't be bad for some people's only internet, for WFH and for streaming too.

Unless you're a gamer and you need 100gb updates weekly…

      • +3

I think you don't have kids or otherwise 100GB would be used on daily basis.
