                • @seb: $330 does get deducted if you go ahead with the build. FTTC to FTTP uplift price is in the range of $2400 to $3600 if NBN can use the existing paths underground. The quote could be $5000 more expensive if NBN have to dig new paths underground.

      • I got offered this from cable to NBN but month to month. That is because I got them to agree to match old plan I had on cable.

I refuse to pay more for less. Downgraded download speed and pay $30 more no way

I have 100/40 (1000GB data with 2 free data boost every year which I never managed to use it all even tho I got a NAS and always watch Netflix on my 4K tv) HFC NBN service for $79/m with Telstra. I negotiated this deal through Telstra online chat when I was transiting from cable to NBN. Not sure if you can still obtain it now since that was 2 yrs ago but just letting ppl know you can always try to "hustle" the online consultants for a better deal than what's advertised on their websites. I did have to go through 4-5 consultants before a cool dude gave me the deal right way.

      • What's the best Telstra deal for new NBN customers (HFC) - moving to a new house next week … ?

        • I'd say you're better off with offer 1 - $20 monthly credit for 3 months on $110 plan (End 31/08/2020)

Personally I'd do this then move down to $90 afterwards

  • Yep I did this a couple of weeks ago - I thought I was special so didn't share haha.

    • I thought I was special so didn't share haha.

Are you a Queenslander by any chance?

      • Was it the "Location: Brisbane" that gave it away?

        • +6

          Nah, the attitude…

  • No bargain. Unless you see value in the included home fixed phone line, it's the same price as just about any other provider (before their available discounts)

    • +3

Unless you see value in the included home fixed phone line

It's a good deal if you like receiving robocalls during dinner.

    • I won't neg because I'm sure there's someone around that would use that. But especially with Telstras lack of customer support I'd agree.

  • LoL tried for ages to get them to give the speedboost free on NBN, I've had been $80 on 100mbit cable for years so didn't really care for $110 for 100mbit NBN. Best they ever offered was $10 off, even when showing a mates free NBN boost it was a 'no'. In the end took up that $40/month for 25mbit deal instead… and once that is over I shall probably just go somewhere else.

  • Is nbn100 available for FTTC? It doesn't seem so when I was verifying my address.

    • +2

It is just not with the big T.

  • Got excited, thinking this applied to FTTC connections. No dice.

  • +1

Avoid Telstra, I was able to negotiate 12months free speedboost as an existing customer last year but after 6 months they started charging me for it. Long story short they didn't honour the remaining 6 months and I ended up joining Aussie Broadband, best decision ever.

    • No idea why you got negged for this, very shady of telstra to not honour the full 12 months if they agreed to.

      • Yep luckily I had saved the chat transcript so I took it up to the TIO and they credited me for the overcharge but it was no use for the credit as I had already joined ABB. It was a big waste of my time…

        • You can ask them to send you a cheque refund of any credit balance on the account.

  • I am pretty happy with my TPG NBN50. Gives me 47M download speed anytime. It is 69.99$/month. I appreciate the good customer support. But to be honest, I only had to contact TPG once in last one year and it was only when I changed my modem to Taipan so good customer support only gives you an advantage if you have issues if service is consistently good and reliable, CS doesn't matter much.

  • Good deal. I had Telstra Cable with speed boost + home phone line + free local calls + International Calling Pack for $90/month. Then I got moved to NBN/HFC and they wanted me to pay extra $20/month for speed boost because it now goes via NBN. I argued with them that they promised that I would not pay extra whilst transitioning to NBN, and after a couple of months finally they waived my speed boost fee.

The only problem with Telstra right now is their call centre is terrible because of closure of a number of overseas call centre due to COVID-19.

    Why in store?

Do they really want people in Melb going in store when the daily case count has crossed 700+? Are they another Krispy Kreme?

  • Belong has $95/mo month-to-month plan with the same tier. Just sayin'. I’m on FTTP and Belong is so far so good.

    • May not be your experience but some belong Customers have shared horror stories in the past.

      • +1

Quite right. But I think if you’re on FTTP it’s still worth a try. There are plenty discussions on the whirlpool forum and for NBN it’s not that bad now.

  • Rofl, I'm on telstra cable right now and I phoned Telstra two weeks ago and said if you can't knock the price down from $110 to $90 to compete with AussieBB I'd walk. They specifically said there were no promotions right now so they said sorry. And now I hear about this? hahahaha.

Goodbye Telstra, I'm glad to be done with you after 20 years.

    • Did you migrate from Telstra Cable to NBN HFC?
If you did let me know if you'd like me to followup - message me (dont post your account information here please)

      • +1

I'm on NBN HFC and was forcefully moved from Telstra Cable earlier in the year. Is there a team I can call to get this speed boost to 100/40? I'm almost on the verge of joining ABB as I'm sick of paying more for a worse service.

        • Message me your account information mate, I'll see what we can do

          • @BanannaMan: Hey mate, I am in a similar boat to starbearer. Telstra Cable customer for many years, now on Home Internet Connect Plus plan with transfer to NBN HFC on 9 October. Am I able to jump on the bandwagon?

      • Yes I will be as of next week. Sorry but I'm absolutely done with Telstra after the extremely poor covid service and having to fight them constantly over a 1-2 year period because they kept locking my main email account. Absolutely sick to the back teeth with it. I've gone elsewhere. This is only one of the issues I had, can't be bothered going into the rest.

I gave Telstra every chance to compete with AussieBB and keep me as a customer. 20 years of loyal service, not one single late bill, means absolutely nothing. I'm not going to pay more for less.

        • Really sorry to hear you go Ralphi

          • @BanannaMan: No you're not.

          • @BanannaMan: I just asked in the Brisbane Telstra store about this offer and was rejected. The staff member wouldn't even check for me…

Is this offer still on or what?

    • I was lied to that I would get the free speed boost when I agreed to move from cable to NBN last year.
I eventually got the speed boost AFTER the transfer, but only for 12 months. If they don't extend it I'll be walking too.

Left Telstra after they couldn’t offer me a good deal anymore. Now with mate $79 100/40 and no complaints

    • How did u get it for 79/month

      • I think he meant 100/20. 40 up is not even offered on their website.

Been posted before that you can ask in live chat for the 100/40 plan and its $89/month, $79/month if you sign up mobile with them.

I don't see what the Telstra deal is. I've been with Mate for 4 months now on the 100/20 and have been awesome speed. My upload speeds have been…"surpassing" my expectations as well.

        • The 100/20 is $79 but I regularly get 30 plus

          https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/i/4045522455

Please don’t contact mate about it, as we don’t want them to pull the plug. Quite a few of us are getting this somehow for $79.

  • it only last 12 month though…

My just expired and they won't give me another 12 month : O

  • I'm already on the NBN 50 plan with Telstra & paying $90.

There's no chance of me getting the same deal, right ?

    • Also would like to know

  • I switched over to ABB from Telstra today, my account says I'm on the Premium Speed plan but I noticed it has been a lot slower than before.

When I did the speed test my speed goes around 40 mbps max.

Just something to consider before joining…

  • How can I get this without going into a store?

  • +3

Go with Aussie or Superloop or someone else, Telstra 'deals' are normal price at most other providers.

  • I am sick of all Telstra's argy bargy over NBN speed uplifts during COVID. My tier 2 is ok for download to FTTN, and I am around 650mtrs from the hub.

The thing that peevs me is the lousy upload speed - circa 4.2mbs , when the hell are they going to improve that, after a better deal for them from the NBN, I think it was a 40% increase, I would like to see some of that in my upload rate!.

  • This is a good deal from Telstra.

Aussie does not have 4g backup.

  • Telstra is marketing the nbn overprovisioning as a free speed boost for all its customers from them. One of the scummiest companies in oz and shame on the fibnats for gutting nbn to give to these POS AFTER ALL THE MONEY WE HAD TO GIVE THEM FOR THE LEGACY NETWORK.

  • Who is dumb enough to pay $90 per month for nbn 50?

That's how much a 100 unlimited.plan is with most providers. I avg 95 at any given time for $90

  • I'm on Telstra cable, but will only get FTTC…dang, so this deal won't apply. Means I will need to shop elsewhere.

  • +1

Why is this getting downvoted so much? It seems like everyone has an axe to grind with Telstra and is taking them to task for all the times they messed up in the past.

You can't get 100/40 for $90/month unlimited with another provider, with 4g backup, it seems like that in itself is a good deal. Or is there something I'm missing?

  • +1

Actually, turns out OP's deal is not possible to get at a Telstra store and is actually a negotiated deal. Can't get it at my local Telstra store, nobody knew anything about it. Downvoting due to negotiated deal.

    • It was told that everyone is able to get it, did you get the official store or third party seller?

      • Official store. I asked the lady about 100/40 and she just said its $120 a month (or something like that). I even pressed and asked if she could ask someone else but she didn't budge.

To be honest with you if I could get 100/40 with 4g backup for $89 a month I would sign up immediately. I'm with ABB but that 4G backup sounds great, as does the upload speed bump.

If there was a deal code or something that you had or some way of proving that this is a thing, for me or other people to show at Telstra stores then that would be ideal. Otherwise it sounds like a negotiated deal to me.

        • Wow, your experience sounds really bad. I would report maybe complain about that lady. Btw, you are having HFC?
If you are keen, go to another store and have a try, sounds like the one you went to was not properly trained.
BTW, may I ask which store you went to?

        • Official store on the Gold Coast was the same, best offer they would give me was $10 off. This was June 30th though so perhaps this deal wasn’t official then, despite a friend getting it earlier in the year.

  • Thanks OP, I just signed up an hour ago, at Telstra shop, The Glen, VIC. Currently on Telstra Cable, moving to 100mbps Premium (HFC), $90 ($20 off for 12 mths, after which reverts to $110). No lock in contract. Was about to do w/out their modem, costing $216, as I'd bought a Gen 1 NBN modem from a mate, but rep (Vivienne Lay, v helpful staff!) explained, if I took the Gen 2 modem 24 mth package, at end of 12 mths, if I left Telstra, I wd be paying 1/2 the modem value then ie $108. So I took home the new modem on the spot. The NTD (black box) is on order and may take a week or 2 (apparently it was taking up to 2 mths not so long ago, back-order).

    • Just wondering, did your $20 pm credit start immediately from the first month or did they tell you it will only take effect from the 3rd month?

I signed up to the same as you purely because I received the email about the $20 pm credit but I noticed in all the documents they sent me that there was no mention of the credit and when I inquired about this I was told that they only apply the credit from the 3rd month… The fact that it's impossible to contact any sort of customer support atm due to COVID makes me in an even worse position as I'm not sure who else I can contact as obviously the store I did it at is not exactly helping.

  • I'm very confused about the NBN, and I'm sure I'm not the only one!

I'm currently with Optus cable and get 157Mbps download and 1.47Mbps upload (just tested at 7:50pm).
My street just got FTTC and the plans range from 50/20 (around 44Mbps busy period download speed) to 100/40 (around 80Mbps busy period download speed)

Then there's something about the end of August when only 100/20 for FTTC addresses or something, but HFC get the faster speed? Why is HFC faster than FTTC? Isn't there more optic fibre with FTTC?

I always thought optic fibre would be much much faster than coaxial cable (I thought up to gigabit speeds?) but none of this makes any sense to me. On top of this every company seems to charge around the same price say 90bucks/month other than a short term discount (6mths). I'm not looking forward to the forced switching of my cable to NBN. What a mess!

    • +1

FTTC is operating as VDSL, tops out at 110/40Mbps & network upgrades need to take place before you get offered up to Gigabit.

Next month Telstra is doing new deals on FTTC = 100/20Mbps, HFC & FTTP = 1000/50Mbps & 250/25Mbps.

      • Interesting!
Do you mean these new Telstra speeds are available now (1st Aug)?
        Any idea on costs?

        • Not today, when Telstra announce it. I don't know the costs.

      • Hi, how do you know about these new FTTC offerings from Telstra? It’s late August and there doesn’t seem to be any news yet…

        • Some employees said this on forums.

  • You Couldn't pay me to go back to Telstra. Left and went to Aussie BB and now i know at least the money i am paying is going to jobs in Australia not a call centre overseas. Plus if there is an issue (NBN) side you talk to someone that actually has tech knowledge. When i was on Telstra, NBN went down and it took 7 days and 12 phone calls to Telstra for them to lodge an issue with NBNCO.

NBN was out at 11pm one night rang Aussie BB at 11:30pm, they lodged fault with NBNCO which turned up to the exchange the next morning and fixed the problem before 11am. Aussie BB rang me back to let me know it was fixed and check to see if it was working. They also told me the issue was with a faulty cable which was only affecting some people. Can't fault their tech support so far.

  • I signed up for this deal a month ago. Verbally told it was 100/40. Fast forward to now, one no show nbn appointment later, I'm connected and find it's 100/20. Really not happy about this at all. Any one else had this experience?
