that's why you need a credit card!

(don't actually take my advice, please)

      • If you own your own home, use it to pay water and/or rates. You can pay these in advance too with most city councils, easy to get to the 4K spend.

        • Does Westpac include bpay in the $4000 though

          • +1

@Baghern: Pay your rates via the council website not Bpay.

            • +1

@R3XNebular: Yes, pay via phone or website. Depending on the city council, some charge fees others no fees.

          • @Baghern: most dont

          • @Baghern: If you use bpay from Westpac online account, it was excluded from the spending. I was caught up once. Basically any payment does not involve one entering the card number/swiping in shop would not count as eligible spending.

    • +3

Maybe you would if you didn't use italics so much.

  • +8

Damn. My credit rating will be taking a hit.

Anyone know if there's any similar deals for the blended bundle (Platinum MasterCard + Black Amex) or black bundle (Black MasterCard (this deal) + Black Amex)?

    • I've tried fiddling with the link as this is a special one, but I didn't turn up anything. A link might appear sometime, so I'm tempted to wait a little.

  • Any exclusions for those who've held a St George card anytime during the last 12 months (Westpac owning St George and all)?

    • +6

Existing Westpac customers who currently hold an Earth Platinum, Earth Platinum Plus, Earth Black, Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black credit card, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer.

      • +7

need to wait for the last westpac 12 months to expire
those 12 months take too long ;)

        • 12 months from date of last closure?

          too long indeed

        • And how many of those 12-month waitings make for a whole life?

      • +1

Thanks. That does pretty much rule out any other card not in that list being excluded then.

      • +1

Excuse my ignorance. So does that mean holding a St George credit card from a previous promotion does exclude you?

My understanding of your reply is that being a St George customer does automatically exclude you?

        • +3

By my reading of that exclusion clause, you should be eligible for the bonus points even if you have had a St George card in the last 12 months.

      • Noob question.

The Altitude Black Credit card, does it include the Qantas Black? Is that still considered as Altitude Black?

  • This is great!

  • Is this a stand alone deal?

  • +8

Is Westpack like Westpac but with a six pack?

  • -5

Didn't know Westpac has changed their company name to Westpack

    • +9

      Username checks out.

  • +1

So the annual fee is $250/- from second year and an additional $50/- from year 1 if you want Qantas or Velocity. The title is technically correct but a bit misleading due to omission.

    • +13

lol who here keeps their credit card for longer than a year? most would close them when they get the bonus points and move on to the next deal…

      • isn't that time too short? when you move on to the next cc deal it's only about 3 months from last credit check?

        • +1

Yeh I guess it depends on how high your score is at the time of application and probably your income? I've heard of others on ozbargain churn deals out every 3 or 4 months. Personally for me every 6 months seems to be the sweet spot… but yeh definitely don't keep it for more than a year if your aim is to get bonus sign up points…

          • @Spazmos: You meant 6 months from last CC application OR from last CC closure?

        • +2

Keep a zero annual fee card in addition to the ones you cycle through.

          • @Autonomic: Is this to make sure you always have a CC? I thought those zero fee CCs don't have many benefits at all?

            • +1

@FatTofu: You probably never heard of the fee free Amex cards ( Essential & Discovery)?

I've got a lot of values out of Amex random promotions.

              • @timhn: Indeed first time heard. Do they ever have sign up bonus?

                • @FatTofu: Amex have Qantas Discovery and Velocity Escape as the annual fee free frequent flyer cards. They rarely have bonus points sign up bonus. However there are referral bonuses of 30000 per person, so if you do sign up to one, use a ozbargain referral listed here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/americanexpress.com#refin…

                  • @Akya: From your link I can only see the ones with DJ have referee bonus, although it says 10,000 qantas points for referee here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/295800

                    • @FatTofu: You have to click “show 11 more” at the bottom of my link. I just clicked through the referral link in OzBargain to check and you can currently access 10,000 bonus points for both Qantas and Velocity free cards.

"Minimum credit limit: $15,000" - Thats a killer. Bank will need me to cancel my other credit cards to get this one.

    • +1

      How many do you need??

      • +5

        All the frequent flyer points.

    • Do they usually ask you to do that? Or just upfront, 'DENIED', and then you gotta chase hoops to see why?

    • For what it's worth I got approved for this and my credit limit was set at under $11,000 by Westpac.

      • Weird. Minimum is meant to be 15. You sure it's the Black and not a lower level card like Platinum?

        • +1
          • @Mr BoMBAStiG: I wish 15k wasn't generally the minimum for decent cards - really adds up when you hold a few.

  • How long is this deal on for?

    • Offer ends 15th October 2019. New cards only.

  • hehe "westpack"
thanks mate, needed 40k QFF for my next big trip :)

  • +3

after applying for this card, unsure if you could make use of this offer "If you're our customer, we'll waive the first year annual Card fee on a new American Express Westpac Altitude Black Card (usually $199 p.a.) exclusions apply."
Offer exclusively available when you sign in and apply via this link by 15th October 2019. T&Cs apply.

  • Can’t wait to join the Mile High Club 😎

    • You should visit Denver

    • +3

not sure it counts if you're by yourself

      • -4

It’ll be with your mum 😳

        • Watching doesn't count

"Existing Westpac customers who currently hold an Earth Platinum, Earth Platinum Plus, Earth Black, Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black credit card, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer."

People will not be eligible for holding other Westpac cards and not just this card.

    • I have a bank SA credit card that I got earlier this year with an 80k bonus…. (Westpac network) reckon that'll work?

  • +2

Oh crap. Applied 3 weeks ago, but $250 annual fee. It still 80,000 bonus points. Should I ring westpac to match this deal ?

    • Yes ring and complain - usually they will waive your fee as a goodwill.

  • bugger…. I need to get around to cancelling that WBC CC that i've had for a decade but haven't used for that long.

What other QFF deals are there then ?

  • Sorry noob question, do they verify income and if so, how?

    • Bank statements normally showing your influx of pay.

    • 3 payslips or
Most recent bank statement covering 3 months or
      There's a third one I can't remember

    • So do most people here on ozbargain get 75k+ per year?

      • +1

Everyone and their dog here is on $200k+ if you believe everything you read on the internet!

        • +3

That's Whirlpool. Everyone here is on $120K+.

          • @RocketSwitch: Still a lot! Didn't ATO say medium annual income is 90K or so?

Anyway, I'm on ozbargain because I don't earn that much.

          • @RocketSwitch: Touche (with the fancy e)!

  • But what's this actually worth in groceries?

    • -2

Standard exclusion of not having had this card in the previous 12 months applies.

      • +1

Wut? You clicked reply on the wrong person i think

    • +1

If you're talking about redeeming points for gift cards, I wouldn't recommend it. Probably worth around $400-$500 of supermarket gift cards whereas you could sell them at a minimum of $800.

      • Where do you sell them? I habe got a fair bit to exchange for some good coin

    • Unsure if this is serious but assume 0.6c per point for gift card redemption so $480

However, if being shady then 1c/pt is the going rate if selling points ($800) and if willing to sell the lounge passes they are $50 each too (2x is $100). Just be warned the latter is against the terms and conditions.

So value ranging from $480 to $900 if not flying.

  • Hi, i applied for one July 2018 and closed it December 2018.
Would I be entitled to the points if i apply for it now?

    • it haven't been a year since you last closed it.

      • I thought so. Thank you :)

        • +9

I feel dumber having just read that little exchange.

    • Don’t think so. I closed mine in October 18 so I assume will need to wait till then.

  • Velocity or QFF?

    • Edit: Good question. Personal choice really and where your allegiances lie + the airlines alliances.

    • +1

      why not both?

    • Don't seem to get it. Was trying to ask whether to opt in for Velocity or QFF for the bonus points.

  • Just rolled my virgin CC so will be applying for this! Thanks OP! :)

Need to churn $3K on the BoM Amplify offer first.

  • Just tried to apply and it said sorry the application form is not available when I hit submit??

    • Tried the application again and went through this time.

  • Got approved last week for this already. I signed up for qantas one coz of high value of upfront points. Note that you don't have a single $$ if this is the only credit card you own from westpac and you have a mortgage with them as well. as you are already paying them an advantage package fee. So yeah.. Works for me.. 2 yearly lounge passes… A plus..
