Woolworths Visa: $0 Fee 1st Year + $50 Gift Card + 0% Balance Transfer 14 Months + 10% off Weekend Shop Once Per Month up to $50

890

Hi Folks,
This offer has carried over. As before:
- Get a $50 Woolworths eGift Card^ when you apply by 31 March 2017 and make a purchase by 30 April 2017.
- $0 Annual Fee for the first year then $49 p.a.
- 0% p.a. on balance transfers for 14 months from card approval.
- Save 10% on a selected monthly weekend shop at WW by scanning the barcode on the back of your credit card and paying with your Woolworths credit card (up to $50 discount.) Potentially up to $600 a year in savings if used strategically.
- Earn 3 points per $1 spent on eligible purchases on all purchases of Woolworths Select and Woolworths brand range of products.
- Earn 2 points for every $1 spent on purchases at Woolworths Supermarkets, Thomas Dux, Dan Murphy’s, Cellarmasters, EziBuy, BWS, BIG W, Masters and Caltex Woolworths.
- Earn 1 point for every $1 spent on eligible purchases everywhere Visa is accepted.
- Get cash back every 4 months in the form of Woolworths Money Shopping Cards. 4000 points = $20 Shopping Card.
On top of these credit card points, you also earn Woolworths Rewards points giving $10 for every 2000 points.

If you used this strategically ONLY for the once off $500 shop each month and then purchased discounted CR gift cards for all other times you could potentially save the following:
$50 Gift Card
$600 in $50 discount x 12 months =
$60 in shopping cards by a spend of $500 x 2 points per dollar x 12 months = 12000 shopping card points.
$30 in woolworths dollars by a spend of $500 x 1 base point X 12 months (would probably be more as woolworths rewards regularly has double/triple point offers.

EDIT: Just noticed a sneaky term: Cardholders will be notified via email prior to commencement of the selected weekend. - This suggests that they may dictate which weekend this offer is available.

EDIT: The offer excludes purchases of liquor, smoking/tobacco products, newspapers, accessories and gift cards.

  • Nice one OP! Great work!

    • +1 from me too,

Looks good for me to balance transfer although my current BT expires in may, hoping it is right choice to shift early.

the little bonus points seems more transparent than those pesky bank points schemes

although i can't find the balance transfer fee in any of the terms?

Could you just buy a $500 Woolworth Gift Card/Everyday Gift Card or is it limited? T&Cs don't seem to exclude anything.

    EDIT:

The offer excludes purchases of liquor, smoking/tobacco products, newspapers, accessories and gift cards.

    :(

    • +1

Haha..We both went looking for it and found the same! Also see the other sneaky term I uncovered..
Still potentially good savings, but limiting if they dictate when you must shop.

      • Yeh, the randomness of the weekend got me. I am about to cancel my Woolies card as there is not enough ongoing benefit….Good deal though if you are a new customer

    • the offer excludes purchases of liquor, smoking/tobacco products…

Surely you can buy gift cards from CR and buy tobacco with that?

  • -1

    Pity no gift cards

  • +5

Yay I can use this for my Masters shopping…wait a minute..

    • +3

It's alright, you wouldn't have found what you're after anyway lol

  • Not bad but the one (expired) with 40k QFF was a lot better although it had $99 first year (more in subsequent years) annual fee.

  • Can anyone confirm the 10% off applies to opal recharged too? As it is not excluded in t&c like rewards program.

Would be awesome if it does

    • +1

Works with Opal. Used it 2 weeks ago.

      • -1

Do you recharge $500 in the one transaction ?

    • +1

Opal top up dont even earn points, so i dont think so……

      • +2

It does. Been using it for the past 3 months. I didnt keep the receipt to prove it.. Also you don't have to use the credit card to pay so I used the ww gift card. Saved 15% off opal.

        • u sure? i keep my eyes on my WW CARD balance & even called their customer service. they do not give points when top up even scanning my card. Been told on fine print written they dont give points on travel card inculding opal.

but yes, u can use e-gift card.

        • @zoecot:

100% sure as of 2 weeks ago you get the discount on Opal fares. I am aware they've stopped giving points on Opal.

        • How do you get 15% off Opal?

Do you buy GC through Cashrewards, then use the GC to top up?
Or you getting the extra 5% through staff discounts?

        • @wakkawalla:
          Cashrewards GC

        • @kvince:
Thats epic! Could never have guessed Cashrewards GC was supported!
Going to apply for one for sure now!

      • I dont think it even matters anymore, 10% off Opal travel more than makes up for it!

    Rejected again😢
Tried Coles for $100 - Rejected, now Woolies for $50 👎.

Met the stated criteria. Should your circumstances charge, you are welcomed to reapply. Of course they don't say which circumstances…

I think they want me to work instead of taking extended overseas holidays😯

Say hello to your new friend
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/290213

      • Have used those credit score services - I have a "very good" score. Still have been rejected many times. Lucky I don't take it personally😯

They just have very little info on me as I have cash & never borrowed. Credit cards are paid fully at end of period automatically.

Coles suggested contacting credit agency to review my report. Requested full report - but nothing there to review. I basically have no credit history & a bit too much credit on 2 Cards I hardly use.

    • +1

why would someones circumstance charge[sic] ?

      • Damn typo - Woolies response didn't cut&paste & bit hard to read on phone😀

Circumstances do change. But which one(s)?

If you have too much money to bother with a Woolies CC & $50 gift card… Application accepted😯

Or in my case - borrow lots of money or not pay off CC on time, getting my self into debt - to create a full credit history… Have the card.

But closing my main CC with a high credit limit (I never have used) should meet their criteria.

Definitely won't try the option of working - long overseas vacations are my thing for over a decade😯

        • +1

          sorry for pointing out;
i was hoping the outsource department at woolies made the error

      • If someone has a higher paying job and can service the credit limit then they should reapply. Otherwise they should not bother.

      • +1

        Get a new job.

  • +1

    Careful, they reject without reasons.

  • +1

How can I purchase $500 at once at Wooly to maximize the deal without buying a giftcard? Probably full of s**t in my trolley then?

    • +1

ask you family (very extended) to give you money and their shopping list

do their shopping and give them free shipping (or charge them if you're skilful :) )

  • rejected..what a bummer!

have recently been successful in obtaining the ANZ FF black and AMEX Explorer but not this card

    • too many applications in a short time leads to rejection… what a bummer of a way to credit check… its hapless the credit rating system here. Lot to learn from financial hubs like Singapore where banks are falling over each to give away goodies to get you to apply for creditcard.

    • Maybe you have too many credit cards? There is a limit that a person can service debt. That is, you can max out on all 2 credit cards which could be going to delinquency and your new credit card company wouldnt have any idea.

I have a Woolies credit card and regularly receive a 10% discount on a weekend shop. At the self-serve checkouts the discount is automatically applied when the rewards card barcode (on the back of the credit card) is scanned before payment. At which point I select e-gift card as payment type to stack the discounts.

    • Hi, Does it really only work on one shop on the selected weekend or can use it on more than on shop and still get the discount?

      • +1

The first shop for a weekend selected by them (the second weekends for me), you supposed to receive an email a day before, but they sometime forgot about it.

      • +2

It has worked on multiple shops for me on the same weekend, and without actually using the woolies cc to pay.

  • Aren't you still better off paying with Amex when it's 3 points per dollar at woollies?

    • Are 3 Amex points greater than 5%? If not, use the gift cards.

    • There's the potential for an approximate 15% discount when shopping on the given weekend (10% rewards & 5% gift card discount).

      • So is it worth getting a woolworths credit card when I already have an amex platinum edge which gets me 3 points per dollar at woolies?

    • +4

Use your Platinum Edge to buy WISH gift cards at 5% off. Spend at https://everydaygiftcards.com.au/ (even via CashRewards link) earns 3 amex pts per $1 because it's classified by Amex as part of the Woolworths Group. Then do your shop instore at Woolworths and scan the back of your woolworths credit card which takes 10% off the total due. Then pay with discounted WISH gift cards you bought earlier.

      You get:
      - 10% off your total grocery bill; plus
      - 5% off the WISH gift cards (payment method); plus
      - 3 amex points for each dollar of WISH gift cards purchased

As far as I can see there is no better way to do an instore or less than $100 Woolworths shop. However, if your total spend at Woolworths is $100-$150+ then you can get bigger savings shopping at Woolworths online and using coupon codes for 10% off plus you then get additional cashback of $20 (new customers - but we all know how to get around that…)

  • Anyone know if there is fee for balance transfer? And how long it take to process?

I am planning to buy car for 15K balance on ANZ cc next week. The due date usually before end of month.

And is there monthly fee? I am fine to pay the minimum amount monthly and the rest before BT period finish.

Or should I look at other credit card?

  • Warning fee gouges.

    these are particularly bad, though just about standard across this non-competitive industry;
    International Transaction Fee 3%
Cash Advance Fee $5 or 3% whichever is the greater

  • +2

FYI most giftcards at Woolworths are classed as 'products'. Anything that has a long unique barcode on the back rather than swiping to load should work. There have sometimes been exceptions, but generally when they say 'excludes giftcards' it works for everything other than Wish cards, prepaid EFTPOS etc (basically the ones where you pick the amount).

It's already been mentioned, but you don't have to pay with this CC to get the discount - the offer is loaded onto the rewards cards of CC memberships, and applied like any other discount. How you pay is irrelevant.

I also had a transaction of about $570 once (500 of giftcards and some groceries), and the whole lot was still discounted by a full 10% so I'm not sure on that $500 tranaction limit either.

  • When do they reject the application? During the application process itself or after the uploading documents stage?

  • +1

They have been known to easily reject applications from the first card they kicked off. No point in bringing down your score for this. Pass on…

  • I looked at the key facts sheet.

    They have:

    1. Woolworths Money Everyday Platinum Credit Card
    2. Woolworths Money Everyday Credit Card.

    (1) has a minimum credit limit of $6000

    (2) has a minimum credit limit of $1000

Does (2) still get the $50 gift card and 10% off a monthly shop?

Wondering because at the top of the website it has:

"Woolworths Everyday Platinum Credit Card $0 ANNUAL FEE FOR THE FIRST YEAR8 saving you $49
    Apply by 31 March 2017"

It only mentions one, and the only difference is the minimum credit limit.

I have applied and been appoved for two other cards recently and already have $5000 in total limit. I don't think ill get approved for $6000 more.

    • Also to give you a bigger picture about limits (and obviously it depends on your income/expense situation), but I now have effectively over a third of my annual income available in credit across six different cards, all utilising various 0% purchase / 0% B.T. offers / cashback / bonus points etc.

I think as long as you give a month or so between applying for cards, you should be ok, plus keep an eye on your credit score using the free services (listed in the forums).

Also keep in mind that one lenders criteria can be very different to another. For example, one provider i applied for only gave me 4k while the next one gave 14k, with little change in details provided.

  • Hi Random12. That is a good question. I didn't end up applying for this offer at this time. May be worth calling them to clarify; Be warned however that when I spoke to them about another query, it seemed like they were using a VOIP setup in an overseas call centre as I could hardly understand what they were saying with it cutting in and out. One of the reasons I've decided not to go ahead.

  • Did anyone else just get an acceptance email/SMS?

I don't remember even applying for this but if I did it definitely wasn't recently.

  • Woolworths is definately very risk averse.

I got auto rejected in 10 seconds applying for $1000 limit (minimum just to pick up the gift card and shopping discounts) but meanwhile Commonwealth Bank was willing to give me up to an $8000 limit on a credit card and even up to $26 000 conditionally approved personal loan.

Must be the number of enquires because I got a card in Jan, and then the coles card in Feb.

Strange though, because their application says minimum $20 000 income. I understand that does not neccessarily mean they take any people with incomes that low, but that is the lowest income requirement I have ever seen for a credit card suggesting that maybe they are willing to take on more risk (and yet they seem to be rejecting more people).

Ah, they will probably run another promotion again soon, maybe I can get it then.

    • lol, that one application moved my veda score from mid 500 to high 400 out of 1200.

Now I am "below average" and "MORE LIKELY" I will default, despite the fact I have tons in liquid cash.
