Month to month contract, so no catch. I have been on the plan for a while at full price and speeds are good.
I have been with them for 3-4 years and never been forced on to another plan - I am so happy with my Exetel deal :)
Also, I don't know if their phone plans are like their internet plans, but this deal might only be around for two months before they change their plans again and force everyone onto lower value, higher cost plans.
The deal is available for all new customers (new SIM activation or port-in's to Exetel) till 22nd November 2016.
Hi Glenn,
Just to confirm, for port in number, please advise when the port in starts:
Is it from online purchase or when I started myself after receiving the sim card?
I think it must be the later, but would you please confirm.
many thanks
@Devon: Hi Devon, port-in starts when you click the activate button in our My Exetel members area after you have received your new SIM card.
Hi Glenn,
Could you tell me if you assign a public IP address (dynamic) as you do for your 4G broadband plan?@Glenn Ward: Is there a cost to port out?
@Austrian Oak: Hi Australian Oak, as we are an Optus MVNO, for both our Mobile Voice and Mobile Broadband services you see on our website, Optus assign a Public Dynamic IP address. If you are a business customer and need either a Static Public or Private IP address, we can offer this over our Layer 2 Optus Mobile Broadband service. But this is for business customers only. Contact our SMB or Corporate sales team for more details.
@elfa: Hi elfa, if you chose to leave Exetel, besides the 28 days cancelation notice, there is no cost to port out from us.
@Glenn Ward: Hi, is there any fixed term before I can leave? Do I have to stay beyond 6 months?
International call included in the call value? I can't seems to find on their website.
link to whats included https://www.exetel.com.au/mobilephone/plans-terms
"What is not included in this offer The included National talk and SMS/MMS allowance cannot be used for calls and messages that are not specifically mentioned in the included allowances; which includes (but is not limited to); International Calls, Premium Calls to 190X or 0055 services, Premium SMS/MSS to numbers starting with ‘191’, ‘193 – ‘197’ and ‘199’, Premium/Paid content, content packs, directory assistance or any other content services or charges. "
Seems that it can't be used for international unfortunately.
National calls and SMSes aren't specifically listed, so I guess it is data only!
$600 included monthly value is for National calls in Australia to Fixed and Mobile numbers and for sending National SMS and MMS messages.
@Glenn Ward: Does it include 1300,13 numbers and voicemail retrievals for the $600 included value
@roofyapple: Hi roofyapple, yes, calls to 1300, 13 ($1.10/min) and Voicemail Retrieval (17c/30s) are charged from/decrement the $600 included value.
seems like not.
Looks good.
Exetel are still in the dark ages as far as "Cap" plans go. Every other provider has done away with this on Post-Paid. Excess rates are $1.10 per minute (ouch), but at least data is only $10 per GB.
$10 extra if you go over by 1MB though
Thats pretty standard practice though.
Is Exetel to Exetel free?
Yes. Calling other Exetel mobiles and landlines that are on the same master account will be free and unlimited. As is calling the Exetel sales and support numbers.
so if i signup 2 numbers on the same account…they both will get $10 off for first 6 months?
Absolutely! Sign up 200 :-)
And you will get unlimited free calls between them too!
"Special Discount - First 6 Months (pro-rata in month 1 and 7)"
Huh?I think it means month 1 and 7 aren't full months and will be billed prorata based on the billing date/cycle. So if you sign up on 15th and the cycle is 30th then for the first month you'll only pay $5. Generally the telcos still give you the full months usage allowance for the first cycle - ie. 2gb for 15 days rather than only 1gb for 15 days. Same thing applies to month 7 when you cut across to the $20 per month rates.
The prorata plan fee and allowances (Voice, SMS/MMS and Data) apply in the first month of all Exetel mobile services. As such, so does a prorating of the $10 rebate apply in the first month. Then you get a full $10 per month for months 2 to 6 and then in month 7 you get the balance of the rebate from month 1. Sorry its confusing, we only do monthly billing, not daily anniversary billing. But at the end of 6 months of accrued plan life time, you will have received $60 worth of rebates.
The catch is Billshock. It is postpaid, and the per-minute rates are extortionate if you go over your "cap".
Have a busy month, make double the included calls, and the bill goes from $10 to $600!
Data is better - use double your 1GB allowance and only pay $10 extra. With a prepaid plan, you don't have this risk.
Talk on the mobile phone for 18 hours in a month instead of the 9 you've paid for- I'll risk it.
It happens. e.g. New girlfriend :-)
Somebody asked what the catch is. You only have to go one hour over the limit once to wipe out your 6 month discount.
We do offer a spend control function in the My Exetel members area for your mobile service that you can set at $0, $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100.
Exetel send you usage warnings
@barbarella: That's right, at 50%, 85% and 100% of each plan allowance element ($600 Voice/Message allowance and the 2GB Data allowance).
ohh exetel.. i had absolutely horrible times with their internet service and support. i rate them worse than dodo.
i second you.. especially after they cancelled my contract and put me on another less data more expensive plan.
Yeah I left them years ago, I too was booted onto a smaller allowance / higher cost monthly plan. I understand them doing that to the hardcore leechers but I was barely touching my quota at the time.
All in all, for an ISP they were one of the worst I've been with. To be fair, this doesn't necessarily have anything to do with their mobile plans but once bitten…
I just cancelled eight years of Exetel service five minutes ago. We simply can't live on 200GB a month anymore. Unfortunately, the only company that offers unlimited in my area is Dodo.
Never again ;)
Just confirming the costs for transparency:
URL
URL2
Phone Calls: $1.10 per minute to landline and mobiles and 13, 1300 and 1800 numbers (charged per 60 second block)
SMS & MMS: $0.25As others have pointed out, these rates are the surcharge rates if you go over the allotted credit.
You have $600 of included credit per month, which would be (slight rounding):
2400 SMS/MMS and 0 minutes of calls
2000 SMS/MMS and 90 minutes of calls
1600 SMS/MMS and 180 minutes of calls
1200 SMS/MMS and 270 minutes of calls - In a 30 day month this would be 10 minutes of calls a day and 40 SMS/MMS a day
800 SMS/MMS and 360 minutes of calls
400 SMS/MMS and 450 minutes of calls
0 SMS/MMS and 545 minutes of callsI would not recommend this plan if you make a lot of phone calls due to the high rate (especially the surcharge rate)
1800 numbers are free
Correct. Unfortunately I can't edit my comment.
Edit: Although I can edit this comment…
You can't edit once a reply is made..
Also do note excess Voicemail Retrieval - for every 30 secs cost $0.17.
That 17c comes out of the $600 right?
Yes.
@Glenn Ward: seems like a lot of sneaky charges, though 2GB data is good.
@Oz Bargain 3: Hi OB, I think we are transparent. If there is any "fine print" anyone is unhappy about, send me a message and I'll do my best to either explain it or get it clarified/improved.
@Glenn Ward:
Hello mate, my missus and I are thinking of trying this plan out, just want to clarify if there are any other charges when you sign up eg. Admin fees/cancellation fees (I know you already mentioned there weren't fees to cancel)
But after a quick squiz at the T&Cs it states under section 9.4:
"In addition to the fees and charges the Customer incurs
in the normal use of the Service (including an access
fee, where applicable), Exetel may charge the Customer
administration fees and other similar charges including
suspension fees, cancellation fees, late payment fees,
payment dishonour fees or reconnection or reactivation
fees as set out in the Agreement"The late/dishonour fees goes without saying, but just wanting to confirm whether or not there will be an admin fee, and also it states there's $1.10 surcharge for pay by credit card, is there another method of payment to avoid this? Thanks in advanced, looking forward to ordering the sims shortly
@4KGrubby: Hi 4Grubby, sorry for the delay in responding. There is no administration/suspension fees associated with this plan. We do ask you to provide us 28 days notice if/when you cancel the service but there is no cancelation fee. Also, we recently changed our Credit Card surcharge from $1.10 to 1% of the transaction value - but of course Direct Debit remains a fee free option for payment.
Been with them since day 1 back in 2004 I think. Pretty ok, we landline internet and mobile.. no dramas…
In case anyone else is wondering: regular price $19.99/mth
Can you get a 2GB data plan for $10 a month? The rest of it is a bonus.
Then can't you just get this and use it as a data SIM?
You can if you want!
My reading of the terms is that you need to give 28 days notice. So if you only want the 6 months you would have to do that at the beginning of month 6. I won't swear to that. My eyes glaze over when reading contracts.
I think that's only for the first month which is the minimum term.
You can cancel the service at any time without penalty, but there is a 28 day notice period where you are still liable for any charges including excess use and non included items such as international calls etc.

Is it worth getting this instead of the current plan I have with Jeenee on the Essentials for $18/month at 2GB of Data, and 400mins of calls, and unlimited texting?
Using the figures from above, only if you are sending less than 400 SMS/MMS in a month. Otherwise Jeenee has the better value.
I don't text over 100 SMS? I'm on 3 months too but the thing is, it'll revert to $20.00 after 6 months.
Which of the Jennee deals did you fund that was better? I had a look though could not see it. Am interested to find it……
Thanks. I'm stuck with jenee for 3 months as I prepaid but this deal is even better I think.
I only need the data and a tiny bit of calls.
At $9.99 this is more convenient than monthly SIM-jumping.lol im still only paying $10 a month for 7gb and unlimited calls and texts
Which provider are you using?
Probably Amaysim.
I've been paying < $5 p. month for unlimited text and talk and 3GB, by monthly sim jumping on the cheapo starter kits. I'm on my last 30 days now though (a Woollies targeted $30 start up sim for $1) I also did the Amaysim $10 in total for 3 months deal. I must say though, I've gotten tired of porting out every month. Been thinking about Kogan, but this might be better for me.
You should consider getting a dual sim phone if you cant be bothered porting in and out like me :p
That would make porting much quicker since the sims are both active and close to each other !!!
++
It's been a while since a month to month deal was this good. That's right!
In fact I think it might be the best budget month to month deal ever.
Even the old liveconnected deal was $11 iircThat's what I aimed for!
Are there any port out costs after 6 months?
Yes the next phone provider will charge a fee
Not from Exetel. Maybe your new provider might charge a setup cost. Though, we would like to think our great service and price would convince you to stay! :-)
If you could beat Kogan's S plan you would keep me.
Hi Gershom, I think it all depends on how you use your mobile service and what's important to you. If you make lots of phone calls (more than 545 minutes per month (assuming you only make calls)) or send lots of SMS/MMS (more than 2,400 per month (assuming you only send messages)) and use less than 1GB of data, the Kogan plan is probably ok for you. If however, you are like a growing number of people where DATA is more important than Voice/SMS/MMS (because we all love over the top applications like Facebook Messenger etc.!), then this new plan is a winner. Our normal cost per GB with the plan off promo $9.995/GB compared to $16.90/GB. And whilst we are on promo, our cost per GB drops to $4.995/GB, great value in anybody's language - especially on the awesome Optus 4G network! And, if you happen to exceed your Data allowance, it only costs $10/GB. So for the cost of the plan you mentioned with their 2GB data pack ($16.90 + $14.90 = $31.80 = 3GB) you could have had 4GB of data with us! Food for thought.
@Glenn Ward: Thanks for replying Glenn. Not sure why you mentioned the call and sms limits, because the Kogan plan is unlimited. I get it about data, but I use Telstra NBN at home and so I get Telstra Air when I'm out, so 1GB is plenty for me. If I buy Kogan S 3 monthly then I only pay $15 odd. And if I'm not happy there I have a $15 Aldi option. For folks in my position a good $15 (or less) plan is the key.
@Gershom: Each to their own - it all depends on what's important to you. :-)
I've been with Exetel for a few years now and they are excellent! They use the Optus network so what works for Optus works with Exetel. This is excellent value!
Thanks for the kind words or support!
No free music streaming ;P ?
Haven't used Exetel in many years. I think I used them back in 2010 and they were fine. Not great but no complaints. They did feel very "no frills" though, but they were cheap and that's what was important, and what is of utmost importance on this site.
Anyone know how the data usage is charged : per kB or per MB? I looked at the CIS and I couldn't see anything..
On their main page:
2 Data (both up and down) is counted and charged per kilobyte. A gigabyte = 1,000 megabytes in terms of inclusions and charges. Excess data blocks charged at $10 per whole GB (1000MB). No refund or carry over to the next month for unused data.
That's correct. But remember, we have spend control, so you can limit how much over your monthly plan fee you are comfortable spending. Which could be set to $0.00 if you want!
@Glenn Ward I just signed up, how do I limit the monthly spending to $0 so that I don't go over my monthly cap? I've tried to navigate the website which isn't exactly user friendly. Thanks
@YOLO: Hi YOLO, do the following:
- Log in to My Exetel - https://www.exetel.com.au/my_exetel
- Select "Services & Usage" tab
- Click the "Manage" button next to the mobile service you want to set the limit for
- Click the "Spend Management" tab
- Chose the "Select Threshold limit" option that you want - in your case "$0.00"
- Read the "Residential Customer Excess Spend Management Agreement" terms
- Click "Confirm" and "Submit"
That's all that is required.
You can also do you "Notification Setup" on this age as well - so we can SMS and email usage alerts (Voice, SMS and Data usage at 50%, 85% and 100% of included monthly value) to help you keep an eye on your usage.
Looks like a great deal even after the discount period $20 for 2GB and $600 calls seems decent considering what you get from the other telcos, shame they're with Optus since I have bad reception with Optus at my home and work.
Hi ProjectZero, have a look here to see what the current and planned coverage is like - https://www.exetel.com.au/mobilephone/plans-service-availabi…
Thanks mate, I recently used an Optus prepaid for the areas I frequent so I know there is coverage, just not as good as Voda or Telstra.
Telechoice have a similar deal for $20 for 2GB and $500 calls (includes international).
I believe they're on the Telstra 3G & 4G network. YMMVThanks for the info! I'm currently on Telstra $40 plan for 7.5GB and $1000 calls (no international)… Got it during one of the deals back last year and I need the big data limit anyway.
Does anyone know the best way to port from TPG Mobile? That is, to avoid any fees in exiting.

What's the catch here?
2 GB for under $10??? (Ok, only 6 months…but still)
